It used to be popular among SOF because>subsonic>stopping power (allegedly)>doesn't go through bodiesBut out of all subsonic rounds the .45 ACP is also the loudest. In most practical cases the gun needs to be larger or you'll have less rounds. And since nowadays we have 9x19 rounds that come in all flavors, subsonic, high velocity, heavy, light, HP, standard FMJ, etc.https://youtu.be/hqQB17_aSsEWhat is the argument for .45 ACP in 2024?

Who cares about meme self defense situations. The data already shows the only thing that matters is whoever shoots and lands hits first. It has little concussion due to being low pressure and low velocity. It's the most fun pistol cartridge to shoot steel with. At 800fps you can often see the bullet in flight. It's not so loud that it outnoises the sound of the plinks.
>>61597093No because I'm still buying it and I'm way younger then boomers
>>61597093This is bait, but I'm eating it anyway because I don't care.1911's are the best handgun ever made, and for that reason alone, .45 will always be relevant. If a pack of pitbulls or a methhead with a knife comes after me, I don't just want to just poke holes in them, I want to knock them right on their ass. The US Government adopted .45 because they were fighting violent drug addicts in the jungles of the Philippines and their handguns at the time were not powerful enough to stop them. Guess what infests every American city and most rural areas as well. >inbf muh stopping powahIt feels satisfying launching something the size of a bowling ball at a target. serious questionif it's all about muh stopping power, muh big boolit, why did people who like 45ACP never drifted towards other calibers that are fatter and hardier even? like magnum guns have become progressively more shootable and even in the 70s and 80s you could get away with carrying one if you really wanted to.

>>61602963Subsonic 9mm is cheaper than 45, readily available, and quieter. .45acp is a default caliber and will exist so long as smokeless powder firearms exist. If this upsets you seethe and cope. There are like a dozen default calibers that fill the various niches of firearms utility so well that people gravitate towards them. Think of calibers like a spectrum and different calibers are nodes on that spectrum. A century of trial and error has determined the optimal distance between the nodes where you get close to the performance you want without sacrificing too much. 9mm is a node, 45 is a node, 5.56 is a node, 12 gauge is a node 22 is a node, etc.

.45acp is dead like .40s&w is dead. The practical applications arent there and the continuing fall in popularity has bore this out. However I think .45acp can continue to live as a cheaper alternative to .45 super or .460 rowland for training. While the latter two cartridges aren't particularly popular, they do function as a 10mm replacement while allowing for .45acp as cheaper practice ammo.
