Is there a /k/ meetup planned at Eurosatory?
>>
>>61880206
Is that an actual EMBT or just a wooden mock-up? I was wondering the same thing about the Abrams-X that was displayed.

As much as I hate the frogs, I think we should go with the 140mm for the MGCS.

So now the turret is fully unmanned and there is a new coaxial 30x113 compared to last time, plus the one on the top of the turret in a CIWS which was retained?
Someone is missing the AMX30 it seems.
No evolution with that specific Leo 2 chassis though.

>>61880216
The Terminateur said it would be back and it is.
I mean, one 140mm and two 30x113mm.
Imagine the sneed.

I love how we’re still upgrading the size of cannons when not even a couple months ago leopard 1’s with the old 105 were making mincemeat of T-72s
>>
>>61880808

Le Terminateur
>>
>>61880825
fair point but there was an Ukrainian tanker who claimed that the 105 was still wreaking t72 with hits to the turret
>>

The EMBT seems to be the ine actually passable German tank design.
>>
>>61881686
The EMBT is absolutely disgusting
>>
>140mm with HE shells because tank vs tank is a meme and in most cases tanks are used as arty and assault guns
This literally revindicates Russia btw, that's literally what they learn from Ukraine also this tank will turret toss to the atmosphere if penned even with blow out panels

Why not just go 155mm and spam HE at everything at this point. You can share shells with artillery, as a bonus if you give it high elevation and proxy fuses it can shoot at aircraft.
>>
>>61880825
no footage, but according to a long interview with Ukrainians, while the 105 can't penetrate the ERA upped Turrets, the shear kinetic force is enough to make the turret inoperable by severely damaging internal parts
>>
>>61881955
Sharing shells isn't that big of an advantage to first world militaries because we can afford to have both munitions in our supply networks without running out.
>>
>>61880226
it's real but most of the external "armor" is probably empty boxes, EMBT is a single testbed/demonstrator vechicle made from a heavily modified Leopard hull and Leclerc turret
>>
>>61880825
>>61881039
>>61881976
Ukrainians have apparently been treating Leo 1s as hilariously potent tank-destroyers in a primarily defensive role.
See the first and fourth posts in the compilation in picrel.
>>
>>61880825
I have no idea and no confirmation, but I also wouldn't be surprised if webmrelated was being done with at least a few Leo 1s.

>>61880226
Why would anyone from the first world use wood when steel is so easy to cut and weld?
>>
>>61880411
140mm is a lengthened straightwalled 120mm so the ammo capacity in bustle autoloaders stays the same, unlike Rheinmetall's 130mm, and it can barrel swap with 120mm shells.

140mm gets you 5kg of HE in a HE-frag shell instead of 3kg like a 120mm, the lengthening gets you a longer APFSDS, and the big bore enables keeping pressure the same or even lowering it, which in conjunction with the pepperpot brake reduces friendly fire risks to your own infantry from muzzle blast.
>>
>>61882164
gay and retarded
>>
>>61881955
You mistakenly believe because it's 155 it's the same. Detonate on impact 155mm hasn't been common for decades.

People think the same regarding 556 belted and unbelted. They're completely different rounds in terms of logistics despite being identical beyond a belt.
>>
>>61882190
current Rheinmetall 130 also uses the lengthened ammo format, it's not the old one with the scaled up rounds

lol no
tanks are only being used that way because of the unique limitations of the Ukraine war

>>61881955
because a self-propelled howitzer is massive yet barely armoured and they struggled enough to fit the 140mm into a tank let alone a 155mm and a useful ammo load

No they didn't.
French had a working 140mm in the 90s.
>>
>>61880206
Why would euros want a 140mm gun when it means less ammunition carried, especially since the main threat to euros for the forseeable future will be T-62 Obr. 2024s?
>>
>>61884241
That's the beauty of it. It doesn't mean less ammo carried because it's a straight-necked shell with a base diameter the same as a 120mm.

Ahh, so its basically the same way the 50mm XM913 is a straight necked 35mm? If thats the case its fucking neato.
>>
>>61884241
thats what the two 30s are for
>>
>>61884218
Yup. The French, Swiss, Swedish and US all expected 140mm to become the new NATO standard in the 90s if the cold war continued and all built prototypes around that plan. US had various 140mm armed Abrams, Sweden had the STRV2000, France had the Terminator and the Swiss just regunned a Leopard 2 in 140mm.
>>
>>61884292
It might have changed nowdays, but during the cold war a shitload of countries tried coax 20/30mm guns, and came to the conclusion that 30mm ammunition (and the gun itself) further reduces internal space, and if its something thats big enough to need a burst of 30mm, you might aswell just send a main gun round down range. As for external RWS typ 30mm guns, that makes a whole lot more sense.

Not really effective against drones

>>61884693
As long as you hit the drone it will probably fuck it up, that said, I cant imagine that would be easy.
