Shotgun, skeet shooting, hunting, target practice, slugging, shitposting, all welcome in the SGG.

>>61926101
Shot my first ever straight 50 on the trap range recently, feels great bros. Had shot 49 a few times before that. Been shooting trap for about 3 years, it's been a lot of fun. Probably have put 15,000 shells through my Browning Citori in that time. What should I do to take things to the next level?

I've been thinking about getting a "next level" shotgun like a DT11, but $10,000 is a lot to spend on a gun, especially when I'm not sure how much benefit I'd really get, and I could buy like 25,000 shells with that amount of money. And I really like my Citori, it fits me really well. I'm just not sure at what point I'd really benefit from a more expensive gun as opposed to just spending the money getting more practice with my gun that's already pretty good.

You should try both, they’re pretty different games.
>>
>>61928742
The one one in the two left pics is a Remington 870 but the artist drew the magazine cap wrong.

I don't recognize the one on the right, a bunch of stuff looks wrong with it like the odd shape of the trigger guard, the ejection port is really short, and there's that funny curved portion of the receiver where the magazine tube meets it which looks more like a lever-action rifle than a shotgun. Unless someone happens to recognize it I think the one on the right is just a nogunz artist drawing a generic pump-action shotgun by borrowing details from lots of real life guns.
>>
>>61930374
In my opinion Skeet is better for learning fundamentals. This is because there are no random variables involved except for the wind. The clays fly the same trajectory every time. Therefore when you're just starting out you can keep things simpler. Also you don't have to shoot a formal "game" of skeet, if you're a complete noob you can go stand right next to the low house and blast outgoing clays the whole time, as you get more comfortable you can shoot from more of the middle positions and then step up to the real game.
The target thrower in Trap always throws to a random direction, that's great for training once you're practiced, but it's a bit high of a learning curve when you're a new shooter since it's a different shot every time. Definitely try both, but IMHO if you're a total noob then start with skeet, and note even the full game either, just repeatedly shoot singles from the same station.
>>
>>61930404
does this model jam often? How easy it's to clear a jam if a shell gets stuck?
How often you need to clean this to prevent corrosion, daily?
>>
>>61928825
The hard part about shooting shotguns at moving targets is that you get little feedback. When you shoot rifles or pistols at paper or steel you can see where your bullet hole or mark is located relative to the bullseye so it's easy to see if you are shooting high or left or whatever. But when you're shooting shotguns at clays all you can see is *that* you missed, but unless you're already skilled you don't really know *why* you missed, and now you have a catch-22. One thing that can help is having someone go with you. A person standing behind the shooter can often see where the shot goes and they can then tell you which direction you missed. There are some kinds of special shells which are designed to make the shot more visible so the shooter themselves can get visual feedback but I haven't tried them personally. Winchester "TrAAcker" is one kind, there's others whose names I have forgotten.

If you suspect bad ammo that's really easy to check, go hang up a big static target, something more than 3 feet wide, and go shoot it, then see how many pellets are in a 30" circle at your given distance and if there are any big holes in the pattern.
>>
>>61932233
I've yet to have a malfunction with it so I'm not sure. It has run flawlessly for me so far. No rust issues either, I wipe it down everytime I clean it with a little oil and keep a few silica packs in it's case. That seems to keep it at bay.

That's the problem with the M4. It's a great shotgun, but it's a one-trick-pony combat weapon, it's pretty sucky for clay sports. There are no long barrel options for it and the sight situation is pretty shitty.

I swear I've seen the trigger guard before but I just can't place it. It's not the SXP though. On the SXP the bottom portion of the trigger guard is angled. It points downward if the gun is held level, meaning the hole where you put your finger through is wider at the front than at the back. But in the drawing the bottom of the trigger guard is level, it doesn't angle downward like on the SXP. Now it might be from a real gun, I can swear I've seen the design before I just can't place it. But the receiver is all kinds of WTF. I just now noticed the pin through the receiver near the front of the ejection port. I don't think the artist thought that one though.
It could be based on a pump-action 22 that the artist scaled up. The triggerguard is wrong of course but the receiver resembles a Winchester model 61. The other thing that makes me think it could be based on a .22 is the pump handle looks pretty small in that drawing if this is supposed to be a 12ga. The barrel looks big but the pump handle isn't enlarged in the right proportion.
>>
>>61940047
The drawing being based on a .22 would also explain why the ejection port is so short.

Shit like that is why I spend so long looking at guns at the gun store or gun show; you just never know when otherwise normal looking guns have something interesting about them. Pictured is a 10/22 model 01122 that was imported from England. Has British proofs and a 1/2x20 threaded barrel. Ruger doesn't make any threaded barrel Sporters ATM other than two with no iron sights, Talo exclusive. 01122 is also discontinued. Not quite as neat but still neat.

>carrying case recommendations
Unfortunately good looking cases are often pricey. Cabelas has some that are nice but they're like $150+. Boyt makes some cases that they've made for a very very long time (in business since 1901) but they're $200. I bought a used vintage Boyt case for like $2 that has really poor condition leather that I "will eventually restore" which is a funny joke I tell myself half the time I buy something. Looks similar to this.

They all do, it's just how they designed the stock. My guess is they just wanted it to look a little different and maybe add a little decoration there that was cheaper than adding a grip cap.

My grandpa passed away some years ago and left me with a really old browning a5 chambered in 16g.
I have two questions,
can I have a gunsmith rebore it to 12g?
Is it worth anything? Condition is 8/10
circa 1940s or 50s
>>
>>61949280
I don't know and you'd at minimum need another bolt as well. Might as well just keep it as is considering the 16ga is more sought after AFAIK anyways.
>>
>>61945515
My future public defender would probably prefer that I didn’t.
>>
>can I have a gunsmith rebore it to 12g?
No. 12ga is larger than 16a, there's nowhere near enough metal in the barrel or anywhere else to leave anything left once the boring was done. It could theoretically be sleeved down to 20ga but that would be a bit silly since the conversion would be very expensive and would fuck the value of the gun. It's worth close to $2k if your description is correct.

If you want to shoot it then be aware that 16ga ammo is expensive and hard to find, but handloading shotshells is very easy and requires a lot less investment in tools than loading metallic cartridges.

You get used to it. Btw, if you haven't already, I'd replace the receiver buffer. MidwayUSA sells replacements in both new and old styles made of polyurethane.
Something I've also found is a neat trick to make loading a bit easier, put it in manual mode, pull the action sleeve back, push a shell down on the carrier, let the bolt ride forward enough to let the carrier lift, then you can load shells unobstructed and don't need to hold the bolt release. You can also ghost load doing this.
>>
>>61949280
keep it 16. only problem might be the chamber on it. it might be a 2 9/16 chamber instead of 2 3/4 leading to some gunsmithing tier shenanigans. OR you have to shorten all your 16 ga shells, finding 16ga is a pain anyways. much less 2 1/2" shells.

get another 16ga. shoot that. and reload shells to feed A5. best solution.

Of course I just had to have one a couple months back and missed this and wasn't patient enough to wait for a guy to get back to gun shows who had some with speed feed and a lit forend for around $400 so now I'm stuck looking through furniture and waiting for a non-rifle sight barrel.

Another common feature you will find on pump shottys with short barrels is a specially shaped pump handle so it's hard to have your hand slip forward. This is one style, factory Remington model 870 LM. Another example is the "T" style pump handle that Serbu puts on the Super Shorty. The KSG has none of these features.

a light of some kind, usually. though with how far back it is i would prefer a barrel or tube clamp light mount.
>>
>>61967581
I think it's mostly for looks. You could mount a light or a laser to them but honestly I'd rather mount a light near the muzzle using a clamp, that way it's farther forward on the gun so the barrel won't cast a shadow. I suppose you could mount a hand stop, strap, or friction grip devices like Railscales there if you're worried about losing your grip on the pump handle but IMHO that really isn't necessary.

Naturally, this is a completely irrational thought, but my /k/-tism won't let me settle for anything less than that metal guard. I just gotta pony up and buy once cry once. I definitely don't want to buy the wooden model just to end up babying it. It's a shotgun, so it's gonna get used like one.

It’s not a bad idea. My 590 handguard will likely never break in a million years, but I’d like a metal one if I could. Though I’d be more interested in the safety. The plastic ones are insanely stiff while the a1’s metal safety is smooth.

It's a different gas system and bolt. The 1301 cycles faster for whatever that's worth. I really don't think most people can outrun semi-auto shotguns in actual practical use. I'm curious about the wiki page for the Benelli M3. It says
"7+1 round tubular magazine (Military)
5+1 round (Civilian)"
But I got mine with the big magazine already installed and the short one as an option in case I wanted to swap it. I'm not in the military.

It's the ammo, not the gun. It's not as if the fiocchi is unacceptable, it's fine. Just depends on how tight or wide of a pattern you want.

Yes but this is a 28" hunting barrel I cut in half with a hack saw. No choke here.
I'm gonna back bore it with a reamer and lengthen the forcing cone, might help with cheaper ammo.
It's important to note that Versa-Tite and Flight Control wads work best in a cylinder bore/no choke gun.

>>61980331

For what it's worth I have a new haven rebranded 500 from the 90's. The trigger pack can crack and break around the front lugs. It's a known issue. I ended up trying to fix mine by installing a metal plate with epoxy. Which worked for a time, before that failed too. Ended up replacing the whole pack from a eBay parts kit. Newer guns I would think it's less of an issue, but it is something to look for in the older ones.

>>61981503
>The turkshit shotgun test is the ultimate litmus test for whether a person is capable of self-governing. To save a few bucks more for a real shotgun is an easy, convenient task and one which we all recognize as the correct, appropriate thing to do. To save up money for a functioning shotgun is objectively right.
There are no situations other than dire emergencies in which a person is not able to save up for something better. Simultaneously, it is not illegal to abandon your pride and buy a turkish gun. Therefore the turkish shotgun presents itself as the apex example of whether a person will do what is right without being forced to do it. No one will punish you for not buying a better and functioning shotgun, no one will fine you or kill you for buying such a waste of chinesium. You must save up for something better out of the goodness of your own heart. You must save up just a few bucks more because it is the right thing to do. Because it is correct. A person who is unable to do this is no better than an animal, an absolute savage who can only be made to do what is right by threatening them with a law and the force that stands behind it. The turkshit shotgun is what determines whether a person is a good or bad member of society.

Has anyone else done this?
Thinking of pic related buts it's $70 bucks just for a pouch and some foam cheekriser inserts?
Any recommendations?

Mine holds 7 super-x slugs in the tube, barely. It wouldn't from factory, a lot of high brass loads were 6+1 with the factory spring. I could fit 7 with target loads, 6 with everything high brass.
The fix? I replaced the factory spring with a wolff m4 spring from freedom fighter tactical and it went from being a half inch away from holding 7, to holding 7 of anything 2 3/4" long I've tried so far. It's tight, but mine holds 7 of everything now. It worked for me and should for you.
Non-target-load 2 3/4in shells are longer and that's a fact, but assuming your m4 parts are the same dimensions as mine which they should be, your M4 WILL hold 7+2 if you get the spring replaced.
I hope I can bring a few people's blood pressure down if you are dealing with the same problem and as frustrated as me with the threads full of non answers out there.

The spring was the issue for me whether I had the 1 or 2 piece it came with.
The coils of the spring are touching by the time you try get the 7th in, so good luck overpowering that metal on metal without a press or something.

I copy pasted that info across probably 5 or 6 benelli m4 related forums because NOBODY had a straight answer across the whole internet at the time.

No reliability issues from the aftermarket spring? I wanted to keep mine all OEM, but it’s probably worth it to go from 6 to 7 with actual good defensive ammo

This just comes with the Benelli territory lmao. It’s also a pain in the ass (and wallet) to replace all the import cuck parts if you’re unable to find an LE model.

Value wise, if your being pragmatic, it’s probably not worth it. I just always wanted one (mostly bc of movies and games), and I have to say it always puts a smile on my face. It’s also been the most reliable semi-auto shotgun I’ve ever used. It’s eaten everything I’ve ran through it (including some very light trap loads). I hope my grandkids will have it someday <3

No problems, and I've shot plenty of skeet etc with it. I'm not sure if the thing's ever had a single jam.

Yeah, it gets to be a bit much to turn it fully functional. Count on spending hundreds more at minimum depending on your base model.

Someone bought a RIA shotgun and it fired when he racked a round in the chamber.

Could it have been a slamfire? Are RIA shotguns prone to failures?

there are 2 instances a shell sling is useful
when its a nice, leather one that just holds 2-4 shells or so on the outside of the shoulder sling
other instance is if you are a cop in an armored car firing tons of rubber bullets at a crowd and the extra capacity of rubber shells outweighs the cons of the sling

they are uncomfortable, bulky, get in the way, and are extremely hard to unload from, plus they weigh a ton when filled
i fell for the meme thinking it would be useful when i was 19 and got a shotgun, just get the 5-6 shell velcro holders and attach it to the side of the shotgun, 100x more useful

but thats heckin illegal anon!
just go buy a mossberg maverick, get the 2 barrel combo one and sell the hunting barrel on ebay, makes the cost of the shotgun altogether like $160
its only like 2 inches longer than a shockwave and you can legally throw that stock on it and not worry about the feds killing your dog

the flip made ones werent but most of the shotguns they sell currently are rebranded turkshit since ria are the importer.

the polymer trigger guard is definitely a weak point in the maverick but its also $200 and basically a mossberg 500, its ultra reliable and the price cannot be beaten
id get one before trump wins and puts tariffs in place, the tariffs will make them worthless

cope gun, no reason to get one unless you arent in america
its black powder and just a way to let people carry relatively modern weapons despite the backwards laws
just get a taurus judge or a mossberg shockwave, 10x better guns than the diablo

every single RIA shotgun is turkshit and all the turkshit shotguns are made in the same 'factory', they just go to different 'companies' that add the furniture and some engravings, then they get sold en masse for like $25-$50 a gun
they are all horrible pieces of shit and shouldnt be trusted, big issue TFBtv found was they all claim to be rated for 3" magnums but every single 3" magnum fired in a turkshit shotgun has nearly made it explode
