Why has nobody figured out ballistic gauntlets?

Knights had some badass gloves like 500 years ago. How come nobody makes 'em out of laminated kevlar/carbon/s-glass or UHMW these days?

>inb4 muh trigger guards
>>
>>61956919
For what purpose? Do you think you're going to be punching bullets out of the air?
>>
>>61956931
hell, I'd wear em just riding my e-scooter around. I triple up high-end impact gloves as it is, and it'd honestly just be thinner to run articulated laminates.
>>
>>61956940
and look at freakin' lacrosse gloves. sure you can get decent ballistic resistance in a smaller form factor than this shit.
>>
>>61953958
So what options are available other than Nexus and PGD? Or do I just have to deal with those

If you make them out of flexible soft armor, sure. If you make them out of articulated hard armor, the backface deformation is slow low then probably not.

Do modern jungle boot styles (not surplus/repro) still have the size one down rule or are they true to fit?
Also, recommendations for boot insoles?

Well that depends on whether or not you care if it melts in a fire lol. But surp FR polyester stuff is cheap and literally all civilian athletic polyster t shirts are the exact same shit.
Rugby and polo shirts are nice because they have a collar.

But for real it's a t shirt. Don't overthink it.

Alright, here's my delima. I've got a thicc molle style stand alone battle belt, the old style. I have a lot of gear on it, a lot of it is G-Code where I can swap out the mounting brackets from Molle to belt style, so that is taken care of. What I am getting cold feet about is the pieces I have on it IFAK, Dump pouch, etc. that are sewn on molle straps. Can this be used at all on this style of belt pictured? Does three row molle straps adapt to a belt like this, or is there a mount converter, or do I need to buy new pouches that are made to mount on belts? Thanks for the input

I mean it looks like a much of a muchness, PGD is shit pressed in Bulgaria where as militech is shit pressed china.
>>

tx I'll look into, merino socks are absolutely based, cotton socks get drenched if I go for a walk in the heat, these fucking socks stay dry after walking for 7 hours inside of heavy goretex boots, dont stink even after being used multiple times, are warm, dont rub your skin

I remember my ex gf once came with me on a hike, it was a chill one but still had some elevation, paved or gravel path, she insisted on using her "boots", you know those military leather boots looking ones that are just a fashion item in reality, and used cotton socks, while not having conditioned feet, she instead they were justasgood despite my warnings, and got her feet scraped out like mf with blisters, guess she learned her lesson

Pretty sure there PGD ARCH uses Dupont Kevlar for its aramid, whereas the Militech helmets (and every other Chinese helmet) use the orangey-yellow aramid that's made in China. I think someone on YouTube shot and opened up an ARCH to see if it was Chinese made, but I can't remember what the channel name was.

>>61957637
Slick belts don't work with MOLLE straps. An alternative would be to use one-wrap to mount the pouches, but the pouches will probably sit a little higher on the belt line as a result.

>>61958069
>what's a good belt for just holding my pants?
Just get any nylon belt with the buckle style of your choice. Blue Alpha Hybrid if you like Cobra buckles, or Blue Alpha Low Profile if you don't like Cobra buckles. Kore if you like their ratcheting system.

Do you guys know of any durable nonsynthetic baselayer alternative to merino? I'm finding that with regular wear (once every week or two) and air drying my merino baselayers only last about 1.5 years. Is alpaca any better? I would prefer to avoid polyester because of the odor retention.

drifire silkweight stuff is synthetic, but i like it. there's also beyond clothing's lv1 hybrid waffle layer
>>
>>61957063
Go look up spiritus' videos on cold weather layering. The three big pieces are merino wool/merino blend base layer, wind cheater or soft shell and a high insulation belay parka. The base layer and soft shell is your 'action suit', with the belay parka for when you're static. As always, best way to figure out what works for you is to go out and do it.
>>
>>61964839
For wear like once every 2 weeks? idk man that sounds a little light
>>
>>61964895
I've had merino socks wear out after about 2 years of once a week > wash repeat use. There are certain articles of clothing which are more likely to wear than others in a "shorter" amount of time. Your base layers are thin material rubbing against your body.

I "made" an "assault pack" sorta DIY style for pretty cheap so I thought I'd share.

I have a voodoo tactical hydration carrier with a 3L Source bladder. I attached it at the top with 2 2inch-to-1inch plastic loops. And at the bottom I used a molle to velcro panel. Then I attached a surplus M81 sustainment pack to the webbing. Which is a good bit of room.

All in all it was about $35 not including the bladder.

Also as a side note, I don't know how reliable a roll one (knock off) will be in the back when I'm under stress or injured.

Is there any kind of cummerbund that attached to molle instead of velvro? I have a lightweight carrier that doesn’t have any velvro on it and I’d like to add a cummerbund because the little side straps let it flop around too much.

Anyone ever stick a 16340 battery into a device that takes CR123?

In particular, Surefire X300U B, Streamlight TLR2 HL? Etc?

Can they manage the over voltage?

Why the fuck haven't all CR123 based devices, Eotechs, X300Us, etc been re-designed to be dual fuel compatible with both CR123s and 16340s?

Also for any battery nerds, would removing the common USB C charging port from 16340s allow for more capacity?

Email the company. I emailed eotech and they said it could destroy the optic due to the higher voltage of the 16340s. Should run with flashlights but makes them run hotter shorting it's lifespan. Sig has a light that does 16340s and cr123s.
>>
>>61965046
I'm mostly seeing stuff like this. So it attaches in the back with the bungee straps and it attaches in the front with velcro? So as long as I buy some kind of velcro panel for the front of my carrier these should work fine?

Hey all, where do you find good camo brands/patterns? I’m not talking multicam or surplus military, but unique camo patterns. I’ve looked for things that fit my area, but can’t find any good options. The closest I’ve gotten was RELV MOAB/Tunnel Rat, but they don’t sell outside the US. Ideally something that mitigates thermal + NIR compliant.

>I want unique camo
>but also FR/NIR
>>
>>61965584
Atacs, kryptek and phantomleaf are all internationally available patterns with color schemes similar to what you want. Most fabrics that don't use a brightener are naturally NIR (cotton doesn't reflect shit and cordura doesn't much), and for ones that arent like polyester, a dusting of krylon will fix it. From what I can see, Relv thermal blocking is exclusively for static hides, which is the easiest circumstance to block thermal anyway. Put up two mylar blankets with air between them (like a tent and tent fly) and a thermal wont be able to see through them.
>>
>>61965610
See what you like but I do IFAK at the 6, dump pouch at the 7:30, and multitool at the front either side.

So what about for an IFAK:
Chest seal
NPA
Pressure dressing
Combat gauze
NPA
CAT
Gloves
TC3 card

Then any space left packed with more gauze?

>NPA
Almost never use them but it’s hard to harm someone with one so why not
>Pressure dressing
The Israeli one? We use them, they’re fine but ultimately it’s a bit of a gimmick and you can achieve good compression onto a packed wound with any type of bandage
>Combat gauze
Quickclot or any other kind of haemostatic gauze is fine but obviously it doesn’t replace direct pressure and good wound packing technique
>CAT
At least two.
>Gloves
I step out of the ambulance with gloves on already have an entire pocket just filled with pre-folded gloves. I’m not touching some methhead’s blood but if your range buddy NDs into his foot right next to you are you really worried about getting AIDS?
>TC3 card
A regular notebook will do

If you’re not a Paramedic buying this shit expecting to be some hero first responder and actual Paramedics find you attempting a finger thoracostomy or injecting illegally-acquired expired ketamine or some shit, just know you’ll be going to jail for a very long time.

I don’t think that’s true, but countless people have been saved by people with little or no training applying even a makeshift tourniquet. I’ve seen someone saved by having a belt applied to their leg because luckily for him, it doesn’t take a genius with training to tie something around a fucking limb.

NTA but I’m pretty sure it depends on your state or country’s “Good Samaritan” laws. As long as you aren’t doing anything to invasive you should be fine, like gauze and pressure or a TQ.

Slamming an NCD or even an NPA in some cases would likely be going too far.

I've been using Howard Leight earmuffs for years. I'm interested in Peltor ComTac V earmuffs though. How much better is the sound protection? Electronic audio quality? Comfort? Puc related, it's them.
>>
>>61971137
If you don't need/want integrated comms then ComTacs are absolutely, 10000% not worth the cost over Leights/Rangeguards/Walkers. They're better but nowhere near enough better to justify the price difference if you don't need that additional functionality.

t. Own and use ComTacs, Sordins, Liberators, AMPs, and every poorfag option depending on what I need day to day.
>>
>>61971177
>Expensive earpro isn't worth it

Surely you need to have owned and used them to make an authoritative value judgement? To say its not worth it but to have never used them would just be poorfag cope.
>>
>>61971187
Try rereading that first sentence again, retard-kun.
>if you don't want/need integrated comms
Is there something about that that isn't making sense to you?
The reason the expensive headsets cost more is because people plug them into radios to talk to each other. If you don't want to or need to do that, then fuck no they aren't worth it lol. In fact with a lot of the gucci comms headsets, the NRR ratings are actually worse than they are on Leights, Rangeguards, and Walkers.
>>
>>61971187
nigger, the expensive stuff isnt better at sound protection, it's mildly better at audio, its price its justified purely by it's comms

I hadn't considered them before, but I have a gift card to a store that has them, so with the gift card, they become much more affordable (like $150 out of pocket). If they provide better hearing protection (very important to me), better quality sound, and are more comfortable, then I might get them. Tbh, my Howard Leighs never last too long, and they only go up in price cause of Bidenflation (Amazon is selling them in the $70 rang today). With the gift card I have now, an investment in the ComTac V might be a good idea, but you haven't said anything good about them, and it's hard for me to find info online since gear queers just compare them with other high end stuff, rather than making a video or article speaking to the common folk like me who have lived their lives with the Walmart brands and are now Gucci curious.

>>
>>61971252
NTA but I have comtacs and they are better than the consumer stuff. They have a better electrical amplification system, they are fully waterproof, and have a much longer batter life. Get the gel cups and they are pretty comfortable. Worth getting just make sure to get it with the downlead so you can integrate it with radios and hopefully you're not a friendless anon so you can put it to use. Radios are cheap I cant imagine larping solely alone. Like the others said its not like consumer electric ear pro is trash if money is tight and you wont ever use comms its not a big deal.
>>
>>61971293
I see. I definitely don't have any friends or anybody to shoot with, so I'll never use comms. I just want to protect my ears and be comfy and have a pair of muffs that aren't going to crap out every 3 or 4 years. Seems like these aren't worth it for me, even at the $150 price point.
>>
>>61971304
You can get gel cups for your current pair and that might do the trick for you. Sorry you don't have shooting buddies you guys make me sad. Benefit of being in the south everyone around here shoots.
>>
>>61971279
>isn’t that the point
They’re electronic you retard. The point is you’re supposed to hear people talking but not hear gunshots. I couldn’t hear a fucking thing when I was talking to my dad at the range, then he let me use his peltors (don’t know the model, but they were very plain looking) and I could hear everything crystal clear.

Of the poorfag Big 3 I'm a strong proponent of Rangeguards since they're compatible with ComTac accessories and IMO are the most comfy by far.

But again as someone who has all the gucci options, they're super not worth it over Rangeguards or Tac100s with gel cups unless you're using them for comms. Seriously, spend that money elsewhere, and consider making some friends.
>>
>>61971372
Okay, I will spend the gift card on something else. I won't be making any friends though. Every time I try to befriend men they just want to put their wiener in me and it's disgusting, and women aren't into this stuff, so yeah. I just make do shooting by myself.

How bad did I fuck up? The NIB nearfield mode offered by the VI didn't seem very useful from what I was reading, the VII are mil/leo only, and the VIII are currently pre-order and even more expensive than AMPs.

I think it's decent for the price, very heavy tho, good load bearing, bombproof, the pocket design is mediocre tho, I dont like that its top access only and the side zippers aren't much help, too many straps, it's got the top lid tho which is nice, and the beavertail, I dont like that it doesn't have external pockets so everything goes inside and pulling it out is a pain, but since it's full of MOLLE you can attach shit to the outside to fix that.

idk guys I'm pondering if I should sell it or not since I already have other packs for the same role

1) Does anyone know a good place to get a micro chest rig with a map/notebook pocket, like the Hill People Gear style? I can't find any HPG shit in Canada. Dump pouches are sort of so hard to fuck up it's barely worth talking about desu which is why so little discussion.

Maxpedition and LBT are my two personal favorites, between the two I prefer the LBT on my beltline. I'll also use a BFG tenspeed on my PC at about 1100 for incidentals or if I'm not using a belt but it stays stowed 95% of the time out of the way. and the tenspeed really shines in that usecase IMO, I think it would disintegrate pretty quickly if it was on a beltline as a primary dump.

Some Velcro is coming loose on my carrier and I wanted to add some stitching. Do I just use a regular ass needle and thread, or should I use like an awl or something?

Looking to pick up a new edc flashlight, anyone know of sites that are having a sale for the fourth?

Otherwise what is your preferred shop for lights?

Jap armor and camo is drippy
>>
>>61980061
>drip
In the past, slang used to originate from shortening of existing terms. Where the fuck did drip even come from aside from zoomer's replicating basetball americans' inability to speak?
>>
>>61980270
I always assumed it was a euphemism for precum.

im looking to grab something like picrel for the bugout scenario. you're saying steel plates are not ideal?
what's the best option for a stealth, under the sweater greyman option? assuming this plate harness wont affect the type of plate one can choose.
>>

>bugout scenareo

Uber gay

Just buy a colour you like then buy some gesso 4400.

why is botach on the shitlist?
>>61980467
Steel is trash check out stealth armor systems. They make small lightweight armor that might fit the bill
>>
>>61980270
I was told that its from the phrase "fresher than wet paint", so if something is drippy (ie; still wet) then its fresh; meaning stylish.
>>
>>61980467
>steel plates
Most are garbage and heavy as fuck. And ar500 isn’t suitable for plates anyways. But the caliber armor ar 550 plates (the ones with spall shield) don’t spall at all, and they’re no heavier than ceramic. They’re worth looking at if you’re a poorfag and just want something to throw in your closet because you’ll never need them anyways.
>>
>>61963564
UK fag here. Anyone heard anything about VestGuard UK? Apparently all made in the Uk.

anything decent quality is fine for edc, the expensive stuff is just needed for gun mounted lights to hold up to recoil
streamlight penlight is >$30 and perfectly adequate for an edc

botach lists things as in stock which are actually back ordered.

ok thanks bros, I'll check out everything suggested. I just like the undercover option, protection without projection.
Wasn't looking forward to steel but I thought it would be the best. Encouraging that there are some different options
>>
>>61980925
>I just like the undercover option, protection without projection.
Civilian urban camo is low profile. Steel is crap but if you want metal this is a titanium plate I would trust

Explain why all the hardcore larpers like A2 run flapped magazine pouches. Are guys really losing mags left and right when using stuff like kywis or spiritus elastic inserts?
>>
A couple weeks ago, my parents were walking our fat old retarded dog, and crossed paths with a (((dog walker))) who had 4 dogs, one being a nigger german shepherd. His were off leash and the shepherd went after my parents; no one was hurt, but the faggot didn't get his dog under control and after my dad kicked the dog away, it decided to charge the people behind them. The guy got mauled pretty good on his arm, the shepherd is being euthanized, and the walker is being sued. My dad wants to CC carry now and wants a small fanny pack to carry stuff for another dog attack/possible shooting as this one was pretty upsetting, for good reason. I was thinking of a dog attack and how to treat it, mostly puncture wounds yeah? So I would imagine a hemostatic gauze, wound packing, pressure bandage would be fine to carry, basically a normal IFAK?
>>
>>61981113
Knowing your mags aren't going anywhere is nice, plus it keeps debris out of your pouches if you're prone or crawling. If you know you're never going innuhwoods with your gear, they're probs not necessary
>>
>>61981260
Gauze, pressure dressing, TQ, Rats TQ (these work well on dog limbs in case your doggy gets hurt)
>>
>>61981296
Hey thanks for the Rats TQ suggestion anon, I have everything else. Problem with dog/knife injuries is how much you bleed; the guy was a mess and I bet you could have gone through rolls trying to get it all stopped.
>>
>>61981322
With a dog bite with so many puncture wounds I’d lean more towards wrapping with hemostatic gauze and then pressure dressing on top or 4” ace wrap. If there’s a lot of bleeding slap a TQ on first to assess.
>>
>>61968316
its for a helo or dog.
>>
>>61980916
What IFAK pouch costs $200? Most IFAK pouches go for $50-$75. If you're talking about something that can store far more supplies than what typically fills an IFAK, then yes those bags/packs can cost quite a lot unless you buy something made in Asia.

>>61981113
I have KYWIs on my belt, but for chest rig and plate carrier, I have flapped pouches. Like the other anon said, flaps are nice for keeping crap off your mags. Even if you're not crawling around in the woods, flaps are still nice for keeping rain and stuff out of the pouches. They're not as fast as open top pouches to draw from, but nobody's doing speed reloads off their carrier/rig in real life. That's flat range theatrics.

>>61981260
>>61981322
>>61981375
I'd skip the hemostatic and carry more regular wound packing gauze, and ace wrap. Gauze, ace wrap, a small bit of medical tape, a pressure bandage, and a TQ should be enough for serious dog bites. Maybe add 5.5" shears for cutting pants.

Have your dad look into the Spiritus fanny sack and the Spiritus med tray insert. The med tray insert will allow him to keep the smaller contents arranged and not just jumbling around in the fanny sack.
>>
>>61981113
not being concerned about the potential of losing stuff is flat-range behavior.

asking again could someone tell me if it's a real surplus one? I don't know anything about these plates
>>
>>61983002
you still need level iiia soft armor to make it work as lvl4
>>
>>61983038
I thought that's only for SAPI?
>>
>>61983002
Paging Ash. Ash, come in.
>>
>>61983045
no, the esapi still needs soft armor since it is still a in conjunction with (ICW) plate
https://www.nsnlookup.com/fsg-84/fsc-8470/us/8470-01-520-7373-inserts-enhanced-small-arms-8470015207373-015207373-300-0155-001-co-pd-04-19h
>>
What are Gen III S plates?
>>
>>61983002
It's real but it's old and looks beat-up. Used ESAPIs in that condition are worth around $200-300/ea on the surplus market.
>>61983045
The SAPI is an ICW plate that's like Level III+. It's rated to stop 7.62x54mmR LPS, and M855. It's ackshually a very good plate, because it's quite light, and AP threats were uncommon in Iraq and Afghanistan. The ESAPI is basically an ICW Level IV plate.
>>
How do you not get scammed buying surplus ESAPIs and more importantly where do you find them
>>
>>61982875
kyis have positive retention, its not going anywhere

has opticsplanet ever sent you a package with bill hicks as the return address?

>why is botach on the shitlist?
i ordered a few things from them once, and then realized it was never going to ship while they kept my money
then i searched "botach" one day to track the order but was lead to the "boteach" family who happen to be the same people
what i found, explained a lot, and now they're on the never-give-money-to list
>>
>>61983002
>>61983002
Yeah, what you paying/paid for it? Get some dyneema backers. If you haven't bought it yet I'd just wait to find some REV G or new plates for that 995 protection.

thanks anon, I was looking at those hillpeople gear fanny packs so he could carry his upcoming CC pistol in it plus the first aid, but ill look at spiritus if he decides on doing an iwb

Something like: they bribed officials to get a helmet adopted that wasn't rated for what it was supposed to be. Cant remember the details, it was a while ago.
