Thread for everything 22LR. Don't mind me, just Grand Power postin'
postan british proofed 10/22
been thinking about picking up a 22 pdw ever since I sold my 10/22. ya'll got any recs? because the only thing I've found would be a 22lr conversion kit for a vz61 or glock (which I'd just put into a pdw chassis).
>>62054943tfw they will NEVER import the TS8
>>62056012I've been extremely pleased with my CMMG based AR. You are limited in how small it can be by the receivers, but with a K grip, a light folding stock like AGP or MI and a short ~5" barrel and handguard you can make it just about as small (though not as narrow) as a vz.61.I hate shooting my vz.61, even with a much improved Sig stock instead of the wire topfolder it's just annoying. Terrible sights right in your eyeball, brass ejects straight up and into your collar, and mine's nowhere near as accurate as my AR. The CSA kits don't have last round hold open anymore either so you don't lose that going to an AR. Also, I had to fit every one of my CSA mags to my receiver, they would not fit and would not lock without removing material. This seems to be not uncommon.
>>62056277thank you! this might be exactly what Im looking for. and yeah Im aware of the drawbacks of the vz - it does look cool as hell though. I can't really justify the $400 price point for a 22lr conversion - that's just wild

>>62056012I know you said you sold a 10/22, but have you considered a 10/22 with a short barrel/compact chassis & folding stock? Maybe not a sexy as something else that may be more compact, but functional with large aftermarket support.>>62056277I have a few .22LR ARs (including a 2x SBRs) built with a combination of CMMG and Bore Buddy parts, but I really just don't enjoy them as much as a 10/22 SBR.My biggest issues are how finicky they can be to get running well and the amount of noise to the shooter. In my experience, suppressed .22LR ARs always seem to sound louder to the shooter than suppressed 10/22s. A lot of noise from the action. I guess on a range (with noise from other shooters) this may not be as big an issue. They do look pretty sexy though. That 9mm is hot!
Reminder to clean your cans
>>62056612I have considered it, but I kinda wanted to switch it up with a different platform. sold it to one of my friends so if I ever wanna shoot it, I can just drive 5 minutes to his house.
>>62056612That is true. I made a little buffer from PVC that I recently replaced with a Bore Buddy buffer. It helps a little
>>62056012You could go with a 10/22 charger, folding brace, and a Franklin Armory binary trigger. I've got a little underfolder 10/22 breakdown that's a laid out like pic related that's a sweet little gun
>>62056875This. I know he just got rid of a 10/22 but I'd genuinely get a 10/22 Charger and put a brace on it if it weren't for my state allowing bolt, pump, and semi for squirrels, groundhogs, coyotes, fox, etc. but only allowing MANUAL action pistols for squirrel, groundhog, coyotes, fox, etc. for some godforsaken reason. So instead I either have to go the SBR route or go the Tacsol barrel route.
I recently got a Marlin model 81 to complement my model 80. I also finally picked up one of the prettiest hi standards I've ever come across.
>>62056965and said hi standard
I should buy a Rough Rider.
What's a good .22 bolt action for poorfags?
>>62057133How poorfag are we talking? I don't think even CZs are too pricey depending on model.
>>62057133Buy a Tikka.They're Finnish.
>>62057036they are dumb fun, but the quality is what you'd expect for the price. I actually had to send mine back for light strikes but it runs just fine now.
>>62057036I had one. Lots of light strikes with both lr and mag cylinders, not very accurate, and screws backing out. The safety ruins the look. Ended up selling it and bought a super wrangler. Much happier with the Ruger.
>>62056965(this makes me happy)
Winchester 63 or a 10/22
>>62058998never handled one, but the Winchester 63 looks like a nice classic styled rifle. tube mag in stock, nice wood furniture and all that. I own a 10/22 and it's one of my favorite guns. 10/22 has a yuge aftermarket if you're into that, and it's much easier to reload with the 10 round rotaries or BX25s
>>62059037Yea, I wanna move away from tube's but old guns are sick and I've got a good one available cheap.
>>62056975Dang never seen one with a high polish finish like that, nice!
>>62057172I'm talking as poorfag as they come before they start being worthless garbage. A CZ sounds good and I may get that, but I just want a cheap plinker.
>>62061341Looks like the cheapest CZ 457s are:>$499: https://gun.deals/search/apachesolr_search/806703023908>$440: https://gun.deals/search/apachesolr_search/806703023359Cheapest Ruger Americans:>$309: https://gun.deals/search/apachesolr_search/736676083015>$300: https://gun.deals/search/apachesolr_search/736676083039 (compact)Never shot any of either but handled a 457 and it was nice. Can't think of anything cheaper.
>>62061341Savage
>>62061341I mean there's the Savage Mark II which is a HUGE step down from even a Ruger American, which is a noticeable step down from Tikka/CZ. Here's the FV-SR version, threaded, comes with a rail and an enlarged bolt knob for barely more than a regular Mark IIhttps://gun.deals/search/apachesolr_search/062654287022They feel and look really cheap and you cannot dry fire them, but they "work"
>>62061341Romanian m1969I paid 125 for mine
>>62060216I fell in love the moment I saw it. Looks so good next to my 41 lol. Apparently the Trophys were high polished, or at least some of them. From my looking around it is a later model, the early ones had a rear sight attached to the frame I think.
>>62057133>>62061341There are still plenty of old bolt action .22s floating around forgotten corners of pawn shops. Even an old Marlin 80 (mine was $50 a year ago) will feel better and probably outshoot the new age cheap shit.
>>62058014That's a shame to hear. I just find the Wranglers to be so fucking ugly, otherwise I'd probably get one.The safety on the RR is a small blemish on an otherwise good looking piece for its price.
>>62061714Gorgeous. Mine's blued but it's nothing like that.I can't make head nor tails of High Standard's naming nomenclature, they seem to all share all the features and trim levels without any boundaries. The model numbers don't mean anything, Trophy, Tournament, Citation, Military and Supermatic don't mean anything. Victor seems to be the only one with a clear model delineation, as all Victors I've seen look the same.Just venting because every time I try to look something up, I get results for nearly everything they ever made lol like now I tried to look up what the model or name for the rear sight bridge like mine is, but nope it's impossible to find. It could be any of the above
questions>1. I want a 457 with iron sights but it seems the best ones are either fucking long (jaguar) or too expensive (premium). I just want one that has fiber optic front sights and a threaded barrel but CZ is retarded and puts that shit behind a huge paywall>2. How much less accurate is a 10/22 than a 457? im sure you could make it super accurate with expensive parts but i really just want one with iron sights
>>62061987The lux sits around 8 or less usually and comes with irons. The Jaguar is discontinued and would be fucking amazing. Those things are tack drivers. I don't believe any of them come with a fiber front. The scout is a youth gun, has basic irons, threaded barrel, and youth stock. Those sit around 500 or so. Swap the stock with a normal sized 455 stock and you have an adult sized gun.
I want a GP100 in .22LR
I got a 10/22 recently. What are the essential part upgrades?
>>62062881bx trigger
>>62061633what knife?
>>62062881Franklin Armory Binary trigger. lots of BX-25 mags
>>62054943>Grand Power postin'more anon, more pls
>>62063886it really is the best tactical type 22 pistol on the market. can't say enough good things about it
>>62062881Maybe a Volquartsen drop in but BX trigger is a little bit more and easier and cleaner. BX-15s too as the paddle release works way better than 10rd mags.
bump
>>62063542That one is a cheap "sharp" knife. Its not all that great because it got really dull while I was skinning that whistle pig. I got it as a retro dirtywork knife that is shaped like my favorite knife, an old western, but its just not up to par. I just use an schrade sharp finger for skinning now because its really easy to clean.Pic related is my favorite knife. I use it for most other chores, just not the bloody or gross ones.
>>62065045NTA but weird you mention that Western knife as I just found one of them I had bought a while ago.
>>62065045is that a kabar knife?
>>62058998>>62059653Anyone?
>>62066179that's a western bowie knife, dumbass. I bet you're br*tish
>>62056911what state is that?
>>62057036the ruger wrangler is a bit better of a 22 SAA clone but the finish is matte on all of the wranglers sadlyi wish ruger would just blue the wranglers and sell em with wood grips
>>62062881id argue a red dot is more important than a trigger, like the other anons are sayinga red dot and 25 round mag on a 10/22 is pure kino
>>6206617910/22 just for the parts availability, if you get tired of the 10/22 it can be modded into something else or easily sold
>>62058998>>62066179Are you debating between purchasing a Model 63 and a 10/22?They're both good in their own ways. The Model 63 is a classic steel and walnut rifle that will likely appreciate in value - it's already hard to find one in good shape under $1k. Classic fun. Neat charging system. I'm only speaking about the ones made in USA, I don't care for any of the Japanese made Winchesters.A modern 10/22 is made with a cast aluminum receiver which has been crudely painted. Ruger's bluing is nowhere as nice as a classic Winchester. Same with their wood stocks. But you get customization and detachable magazines. The 10/22 platform is pretty great. My advice? Buy an aftermarket 10/22 receiver and build one. I like the Brownell's BRN-22/BRN-22R receivers, they are anodized instead of painted and the R-models have a built in 1913 rail.
>>62066238Just wish the 63 was mag fed like the 1907
>>62054261why are these things so damn expensive? are they really that high quality or is it just low demand? like damn, they were literally designed as a cheap reverse engineered nambu
>>62067480Because the lowers are machined now, not stamped and welded like the I-III. Nah they're not exceptionally high quality, but they are very good quality.
>>62066221Talo edition has wood grips >>62058014
>>62067881>wood grip panels>on an ugly yellow gripIt's just lipstick on a pig.
>>62057172yuro or burger ?
>>62066218PA. Semi auto rifles, yes. Semi auto pistols no. Deer hunting? NO SEMI AUTO REEEE. Air rifles were only allowed a couple years back. Just before that, we finally allowed electronic ear protection. And now we got rid of the local game commission phone numbers so you have to call the central game commission center to ask anything, fuck being able to call them and immediately know shit only the local guys would be able to tell you. What a great set of hunting regs.
>>62067516NTA but that's so fucking stupid. I thought the new lowers looked weird.
>>62068362burger; IIRC they're ~$500.
>>62067480There's nothing particilarly cheap about the design and it's a famous gun so they can crank up the margins all they want and people will keep buying.
>>62054261weirdest. 22?
>>62074579the new Ounce 22 is pretty weird
I fucking love the Ruger MK series even if they're a total pain in the ass
>>62056625Goddamn that setup is so fucking hot
>>62057036I bought a rough rider carbine the other day. Haven't shot it yet, but the rebate is still going on for a free mag cylinder and my rebate got approved instantly
I have a bunch of waterlogged 22lr from like 5 years ago. The last time I shot it I had like a handful of missfires. Is there anyway to make it safe or fun to shoot?
I designed and 3D printed some adaptor thingies to mount an airsoft scope on my 10/22 the other day. haven't tested it at the range yet. might modify the design a bit so that I can mount the scope even further backI've also been testing some CCI Copper-22 ammo that gets up to a zippy 1850 fps. can't judge how accurate they are yet because red dot and astigmatism don't mix. hence the mount
>>62075329You know that weaver, who made your rail, makes a combo weaver/dovetail rail for the 10/22, right? Neat as a practice project but I wouldn't trust it to hold zero. Also that scope is for pellet rifles, not airsoft. While it says Gamo I'm 99% sure that's a rebranded Tasco RF4x15 with a fancy eyepiece. It's also sold standalone as a pellet rifle/22lr scope.
>>62076864yeah I meant air gun, sorryoh yeah I could change the rail I suppose. this is the rail the gun came with from the guy I bought it fromI have a better scope also, an Astronom 2.5x20 with a 1" tube instead of >>62075329 which has a 19 mm or so tube, meaning I can use standard picatinny ring mountsI have an East German Zeiss scope as well but it doesn't have any left/right adjustment so I'd need a mount with such functionality built in
>>62076921>Astronom 2.5x20I can't even find that online lol. Sounds like a neat vintage scope though, something I'd buy.>East German Zeiss but no adjustmentsI passed on a very old looking scope with no adjustments or limited adjustment and I really regret not even asking the price and now I'm just reminded of it. Fug. It was probably something cool and like $5 knowing my luck. Also you'd be looking for a Weaver TO-9M if you wanted to use dovetail rings on your 10/22. Took me a while as it's suddenly very hard to find and all you see is knockoffs from random Chinese brands and weirdly enough, NCStar. I think you have the 430T on your 10/22 like I do; good picatinny rail. Should be stamped on the top face at the rear of the rail.
>>62076988>I can't even find that online lol. Sounds like a neat vintage scope though, something I'd buy.I got it for free from a relative who claimed it was broken. turns out it just wasn't screwed together properly so the inner bits were loose. not any more. picrel>I passed on a very old looking scope with no adjustments or limited adjustment and I really regret not even asking the price and now I'm just reminded of it. Fug. It was probably something cool and like $5 knowing my luck.the Zeiss sight is a friend of mine's. I see them go for a couple of hundred dollaridoos online. sturdy construction. might buy it from him since he doesn't have any use for it for lack of a hunting license>Weaver TO-9Mthanks for the tip>Should be stamped on the top face at the rear of the railcan't see anything, but it might be underneath the 3D printed parts and I can't be arsed to remove them
>>62077131Looks like an old Japanese scope. No joke that's how Tasco got started, importing Japanese scopes and rebranding them. It became very popular to do the same so a ton of brands did it and flooded the market with scopes of varying quality. And yeah, the rings that hold lenses can loosen inside sometimes. Interesting that it's a 2.5x; maybe I'm not as knowledgeable about vintage optics as I thought but they're usually 4x.>can't see anything, but it might be underneath the 3D printed parts and I can't be arsed to remove themYep, under that rear ring. Last "nub", left side, rear, top.
>>62077206>Interesting that it's a 2.5x; maybe I'm not as knowledgeable about vintage optics as I thought but they're usually 4x.2x and 2.5x were popular during WW2 I think
>>62066238Ended up with the 63 because it was cheaper than any new 10/22 I could get.
Was able to go shooting for the first time since my wife and I had our first child. Got my 10/22 out and BRRRRT out some BX-25s with the binary and it functioned perfectly. Popped off a few mags with the MKIV with the new Hogue grips, love 'em. Test fired a relative's Taurus Airweight .38 SPL with a shrouded hammer. I like the gun but .38 would be too much for my wife, might have to look into a .327 and chamber some lower calibers for a proper carry gun for her. Ate some good pork chops and fresh sweetcorn too.Today was a good day anons
>>62062881Volquartsen Automatic Bolt Release
>>62062881>>62078365I forget how much I take mine for granted. Very nice feature both for range and hunting use. If your mag ever jams up, you just lock the bolt back, swap mag, pull the bolt handle a little bit, and let go. I even once did it after my gun jammed after I took a shot hunting. I had the mag swapped and the gun un-jammed before I was even a third of the way to what IIRC was like a 25-35yd shot while jogging. Very intuitive.

Question for anyone who has built a dedicated 22lr AR like the CMMG or RTB kits - does the AR buffer keep the bolt assembly seated? Im wondering if the bolt will just drop out the back of the receivers if there's no buffer tube or other plug threaded into the bottom receiver.
>>62082390A .22LR AR bolt will slide free* from an upper receiver if it's not on a lower*there's a small detent on the bolt collar that interfaces with the barrel, but it's not super strong. When a .22LR AR upper is put on a lower without a buffer tube, the bolt will be held in place. The top of the bolt will hit the top of the "tower" for the buffer tube and not slide free.Without a buffer or other plug, there may be a bit of back-and-forth movement of the entire bolt unit when cycling, so some people use a pressure plug (sticks out a bit more than a standard AR buffer) to apply forward pressure to the bolt.
>>62056277Based Colt pattern, is that a Mk9? I just got around to replacing the Keymod rail on mine. I was thinking of putting thag compact LWRC stock on, do you use the same buffer? A spacer?>>62056625I need that for my MkII>>62061633>>62061744My Marlin Glenfield 25 was $60 when my dad bought it for me in 1986. >>62065045My former fed agency issued the G-33 (3” Stainless Security Six). Such a nice wheel gun.
>>62084350Thanks for the detailed response. CA laws on SBRs are more restrictive (constructive possession is essentially enshrined in the statute), and I wasn't sure if the buffer tube could be counted towards the minimum 26" overall length constraint. Since the gun will operate without the buffer tube, it sounds like a gray area under CA law.On the other hand, I presume if "pre-built" AR-22s (e.g. mp 15-22) operate the same way it's not a major concern, as those are common. Maybe the argument is the stock mount is an indispensable component of the rifle. Funnily (stupidly), owning one of those and an un-installed pressure plug means you own an unregistered SBR, as far as CA law is concerned.
>>62061633I think I paid $200 for mine and love shooting it other than the somewhat unreliable mag. Also the only thing I've killed with it is a chicken that got mauled by a dog :(
