So many manufacturers from nations all over the world make 5.56/223, but which one is actually the best?
looking to stock up on 1k+ rounds well there are still sales, but which one is actually worth $0.43-0.50 price point that seems to be the norm now?
The Serbs at PPU have never done me wrong on full power cartridges, but I'm not familiar with their intermediate offerings.
The Koreans make a bunch of ammo through PMC, or it's bought 3rd parties like the czech for resale.
Boomers seem to swear by the Israeli IMI stuff that is very plentiful at the moment.
Classic Winchester|Lake City, or Federal and Fiocchi that buy from them, has never done me wrong, but there aren't as many sales on their ammo offerings, and they don't seem to demand a premium in my mind.
Sadly, can't just buy more Wolf Gold, which I'm down to only 2k rounds of.
M193, M855, 5.56x45, 223 Rem, 55grn, 62grn, 77grn blah blah blah IDGAF. I've never had bad accuracy with whatever type of 5.56/223 I put through my A2 or Pistol, just want to keep it consistent for zeroing.

Also, General Ammo Nationality thread

Wolf gold is Taiwanese, you can still buy it. I like GGG, the CBC m193 from Brazil you could get a couple years ago was also excellent.
>>
>>62116985
Winchester M193 is the only one that I stack (actually NATO spec 5.56), pretty decent groups for bulkshit.
IMI 5.56 is good too, although I get slightly worse groups with it in my rifle
>>
>>62117152
I bought 1k of this stuff last year when they had the rebate

That may be the case, but I don't see it at the store anymore... :(

underaged 3rd world poster, "1k+ rounds" is not the impressive and awe inspiring number you thought it was

Having been spoiled by decently priced 77gr as of late, zeroing 55gr at 50 yd just pisses me off now, but PMC Xtac has always been great for that

>"1k+ rounds" is not the impressive and awe inspiring number you thought it was
was it supposed to be?
>>
I havent shot my AR in years.. it became pretty boring to me. But, the brands Ive used have never given me issues and who knows if they are still out there.
PMC is fine, American Eagle is good, I bought a can some years ago with 5.56 that was made in Germany and labeled MEN, which has been good as well. Federal is ok, but I dont really like Winchester. Dont have much experience with others, I have like 500 rounds of Igmans I havent touched yet. Accuracy wise they have all been 55 grain so about the same. Only two malunctions Ive had in my AR have been due to ancient old Army surplus mags Ive had since my time in the service and prolly well past their life.
>>
>>62117805
how is it? this stuff is the cheapest atm. its czech right?
>>62116985
Winchester is the hottest, norma and hornady seem to be slower but more accurate
>>
>>62118038
Psa AAC? Hows 77gr with 11.5 barrels?
>>
>>62118684
>winchester is hottest
Stay away from their 9mm. I swear its +p at a minimum. I felt like my handgun was gonna crack. That was so hot I wish I had a chronograph
>>
>>62118715
are you talking about that sg9w / m1152 9mm? That stuff is +p+ and i personally like it.
>>
>>62118684
Works in my guns. Primers are on the harder side but unless you have some gay gucci race gun you'll be fine.
>>
>>62118701
I've got a desert tech micron and it printed 1.5" at 100m using an eotech and 6x magnifier
>>
>>62116985
I've had consistently good results with PMC out of everything. It's not match ball, but shoots well for cheap plinking ammo. Surefire and reliable out of everything. Federal and Winchester have been OK but some guns just don't like it for accuracy although I haven't seen any function issues. American ammunition in general is horribly overpriced and poor quality so I have been avoiding it barring a particularly good deal. Federated Ordnance out of Idaho has been making some stellar 9mm and have just introduced 5.56mm but I don't know if it's any good.
>>
>>62117629
With 1k bullets you can kill easily kill an attacking gang that's 40 members strong.

600 dollars is a really cheap life insurance.
>>
>>62119212
You might survive after killing like 10 of them.. if the gang had literally no weapons..which will never happen
>>
>>62116985
>but which one is actually the best?
For what? Federal Gold Medal Match is pretty damn nice for precision target shooting but it's far too expensive for magdump larping and 3gun competition. The ammo that's great for blasting woodchucks is terrible for hunting deer. And so on.
>>
>>62118684
>its czech right?
The boxes say made in Korea on them. Czech company, but they just buy PMC and prepackage it.

That is incorrect, both the 9mm and .223 say made in czech republic. If anything the 9mm is visually identical to Sellier & Bellot stuff.

I like Fiocchi
MEN (Hirtenberger) is kinda dirty imo, S&B is decent, AE XM193 works too
I hear PMC is alright

I bought mine from my local gunshop but it doesnt seen like they carry it often, or maybe not at all now. Best bet is to prolly just order online if its what you really want.
>>62124668
Never used their 5.56/.223. Only ever shot their 45 long colt and 45 ACP both of which were good, so Id wager they are decent with rifle rounds.

>>62116985
>55grn, 62grn, 77grn
You seriously aren't seeing better accuracy out of your 1 in 7 twist with a heavier bullet? Reality is Stranger Than Fiction but there's a chance you're not a particularly good shot. 75 and 77 grain stuff tends to shoot tighter out of 1:7 twist barrels.
>>
>>62116985
I shoot .223. for practice. You are going to have to re-zero your rifle periodically anyway unless you are a shit shot. Your rifle will shoot differently depending on the weather or elevation. NATO standard ammo (it will have a cross on the case) in 5.56 is about 200 fps faster than .223. NATO standard ammo is designed to be relievable in all weather conditions. It is also designed to be more resistant to moisture than regular ammo. It will last for decades if stored properly. Stay away from m855.Lake city is the best (Winchester Federal). I like PMC because it comes in battle packs. You're never going to get better than 2.5 MOA with NATO ball (except M855A1) no matter what people tell you on this board. .223 target is typically a little more accurate.

is this with mixed brass? those are some pretty large spreads and SDs
for me i managed an average of 2588 with es of 14 and SD 5.6 loading RMR 75grs with 26.2gr of cfe223 and lake city brass

Add into the fact that the Lee Powder autodrum has a -+.1.5gr and my chronograph has been shot half a dozen times. It all comes together.
>>
>>62129417
yeah mixed brass definitely hurt my spreads with my first batch
>>62129435
which one because i was looking at their six pack pro to bulk reload since the rcbs chargemaster while very accurate makes reloading 50 rounds of 9mm take over an hour and reading +-1.5gr does not instill confidence
>>
If it's brass at the minimum, and 55gr, or 62gr; fuck man. That shit good.
>>
>>62129643
As long as it stays around 2moa I'm happy with it. I'm using the brass I have and will keep adding more as I shoot factory ammo. I meant .15gr. If I'm inconsistent with the throw I can maybe get .3gr difference, but that's on me. I bought the old pro1000 they were selling for $100. I had to buy the autodrum to run with it. The autodisk that came with the kit was more consistent 95% of the time, but 5% it would have been catastrophic.

I was given a box a while ago and never wanted to use it.
>>
>>62129887
I agree, but it's not really all that good for anything but mag dumping. I pulled two rounds that got scuffed in my PSA shitter and the weight of the two projectiles were 54.3grns and 56.4grns , and there was a 1grn powder difference between the two. I just really miss how it kept prices low, as everyone else needed to compete with Wolf/Tula to get people to buy their more expensive ammo.
>>
>>62130233

it's not even good for mag dumping due to accelerated barrel wear, primarily from low quality powders, but also the bimetal projectile doesn't do any favors. Of course mag dumping will only make this worse as it gets hotter.
>>
>>62116985
I really like Fiocchi ammo. For everything.
>>
>>62130243
>due to accelerated barrel wear
idc I only shoot it out of my $140 upper. If it gets fucked, I'll just get a new one. It certainly didn't matter to the majority of buyers that only shot once or twice a year either.
>>
>>62116985
PPU Blue Box is always dog shit, I've never had a box of 20 where more than 18 fired.
>>
>>62130300
I've never had a problem with PPU. When did this happen?
>>
>>62133017
Every single box for every calibre I've used it with. 7x57 was the worst, the .303 fired more reliably but hardly hit paper.

Their 8mm Mauser has been the best for me. I was getting 4" groups with my kar98k, and I chalk that up to my poor shooting. Their brass is also the best for reloading, I've gotten over 10 pissin hot reloads out of mine and they're still going strong, not even stretched out.
>>
>>62116985
Who cares? Just be grateful for whatever you can get your hands on that's in stock.

>>62117143
Isn't Wolf an international company that also used to sell a lotta cheap steel case 7.62×39 from Russia? Guess that market has since dried up however given Vatniks and Holol's are having a 'disagreement' on where each others borders lie.

Taiwan is cool though, I'd actually love to visit Taipei some day before Winnie the Flu flattens it because he wants to control TSMC or whatever.

>>62117611
>That may be the case, but I don't see it at the store anymore... :(
Maybe they only do large bulk order batches? I dunno get used to shooting more 308 and 12/20 gauge I guess...
>>
>>62116985
The only one I consistently buy is federal lake city xm855
>>
>>62128173
I would rather get shot by that than a .223 or .323 speer hot-cor at 3000fps I know I know apples and oranges.
>>
>>62116985
