Aluminum or plastic?

>Durability
>Capacity
>Concealment
>Versatility

I think that aluminum is better in a lot of these aspects.
It even keeps the water cold for more time.
The only drawbacks I see is the reflex from the aluminum when exposed to light and the lid's chain.
I just don't understand why the Army ditched the WW2 aluminum canteen for the shitty toxic plastic one.
They can't even be used for boiling water.
Also, I don't wanna know about hydration packs...
This thread is for LBE canteens.

Impact resistance, the plastic ones just bounce back from stuff that leaves the aluminum dented.

Plastic leaching is an overstated problem within the reasonable 2-3 year lifespan of the plastic canteen and you wouldn't want to boil water in an aluminum one anyway.

Metal.
It may cause cancer but if you got many dings you can put it on your rifle, screw of the maneuver cartridge device and shoot it like a mortar with a blank. If you happen to find it, the dings are gone, but it is now a bulbous flask.

Good times.

The plastic ones are a lot cheaper.
>>
>>62124924
I got a collapsible USGI canteen so it dossn't slosh when I drink from it. Imo the best.
>>
>>62124924
I have the plastic one because I found it for cheap at a milsurp store

Does it taste like tobacco spit?

All of them are completely mogged by wide neck metal camping canteens that can be easily filled, cleaned and boil water inside.
>>
>>62126309
water put into it tastes slightly like plastic, that's about it

Same here, except I got my brother's from basic. He immediately went into desk work so he didn't need it and he just gave me it. Use well backpacking and it's preddy ok.

I used to have mine from basic but one night I had a tard rage and I drove my kabar straight into it.

Why would troops use a canteen to boil water when MREs can be eaten cold or heated with FRHs?
>>
>>62127066
Why do you think people boil water other than heating up their MREs?

I got one in green and never looked back. It's even compatible with caps that have ports for gas mask drinking tubes. The thread pitch is identical to the USGI canteen. OC had no problem with it once I showed him that.

That's quite a view.

If you just want to carry some water in a pouch, this.
If you want to be able to boil it, you want the BCB Crusader (in steel). Accept no substitutes.

Where do you guys keep hearing this?
>>

Pathfinder makes a kidney canteen in steel or Ti so there's really no argument to not have at least one canteen you can boil.

I'm looking for a big canteen for hiking. Lately I've just been buying a gallon jug of water from the supermarket on my way out and carrying it on a shoulder strap. I want stainless steel instead because autism. All the classic mil-style canteens I can find are quart size and a few half-gallon options. I don't want the double-walled insulated nonsense. Just a plain old stainless canteen, but bigger. Does anybody know where I can find this? Also preferably not made in red china.

>They can't even be used for boiling water
Which is a non-issue because they slip into a tin that can boil water.
>>
>>62129014
Military stuff is sized for water bottle pouches. You're not going to find what you're looking for. There will be plenty of "gym" huge stainless bottles though.
>>
>>62124924
Plastic leaching is literally a nonissue with cold liquids.

An empty one. Drink Water, Private.

>>62128993
the seam is pretty ugly but there are other options too

>It even keeps the water cold for more time.
You don't understand the relationship between insulation and thermal conductivity.
Just because something feels colder doesn't mean it is.
>>
>>62124924
metal and mostly because it's way easier to melt in case the water in the canteen freezes.
>>
>>62129687
You're objectively wrong.
>>
>>62129014
>Just a plain old stainless canteen, but bigger. Does anybody know where I can find this?
yeah, just get two or more smaller SS bottles

breaking up the mass and volume will also be good
>>
Aluminum canteens are KINO.
