Its not as simple as that but I'm not an ARfag so I don't care. There is a lot of controversey and mystery surrounding that era of US arms procurement. There are people who claim that the M14 never should've been adopted and won as a result of sabotage and political fuckery. The M16 has similar stories if you care to research
