What is your personal favorite SKS variant? Price aside, rarity aside, all that stuff aside, just the one you personally think is coolest.

For me it’s the M59/66. I think they’re so cool, they look the coolest and have the coolest functionality of them all. Launching inert grenades with blanks is fun and then in a real world setting letting everyone have the ability to launch rifle grenades is so cool.

My favorite that I've actually shot/owned is Russian but an East German one would probably be the nicest made overall.

Yugo or Albanian probably. I only have a Romanian one though.

The M59/66 takes the front heavy SKS...and adds more front weight. Fine for normal soldiers, not a good design for shooters.
>>
i found a "russian" one at a gun show for $800. i thought they were going for more than that

Russian, mainly because she was my first gun so Tula's will always hold a special place in my heart.

Also not chrome lined and Yugo ammo is corrosive

Good thing 90% of commercial ammo isn’t corrosive, and who cares about chrome lining, 99% of all other milsurp rifles aren’t chrome lined and nobody bitches about those

My favorite one is the one I have, it's a yugo in really nice shape, and when I bought it it came with a nice aftermarket walnut stock. Once I got rid of the godawful tapco furniture it became one of my favorite rifles.
I still have to cut out the groove for the bayonet, but I really like how it looks.

Nice! Where did you get that beautiful stock? I had the Monte Carlo stock, but my self-cut bayonet groove didn't sit at a good angle

I saw Luckyshotwoodstocks let's you select w/wo bayo cut

It came with the rifle when I bought it used. It was raw but I sanded and oiled it.

I've owned Russian, Chinese, and Yugo SKSs and the only one I still have out of those 3 is my Yugo. It might be a little longer and heavier than a Russian or Chinese, but man if being able to launch rifle grenades and having flip-up night sights aren't cool as shit. To me, the Yugo is the ultimate expression of the military SKS, and that's why I like it the most.

Doesn't matter if it's corrosive ammo or not. Chrome lined barrels are more durable no matter what ammo is shot through them.

The grenade launcher *would* be cool if it had any functionality and wasn't just a constant reminder of the fun things we can't have.
>>
>>62133161
Oh no if I manage to shoot out the barrel on my $400 serbshit rifle using ammo that will cost substantially more than the cost of the rifle what will I ever do?? Definitely not just buy another M59/66, right?
>>62133173
It has plenty of functionality
>inert rifle grenades
>golf ball launchers
Both of those are plenty functional and incredibly fun. Launching golf balls off of the side of a mountain from your SKS is almost as fun as just shooting it. Playing catch with a friend with both of you using rifles with 22mm grenade spigots and blanks is also incredibly fun, you launch it next to you friend and the goes and picks it up then launches it next to you and you just go back and forth. It’s fun.

The Albanian ones are neat, I have never owned one. I also think some of the Chinese commercial variants are interesting, the Chinese really refined the SKS long after it was taken out of service by other countries.

Also as far as variants go, does that include chassis systems? I modded SKS’s for Pearce Armoury pre Covid and am interested to see what the SKX is like.

Note the bayonets are folded open and not removed.

I.... I actually like this.
>>
>>62129383
I don't own an SKS, but I really like the Norinco paratrooper with 20 round star magazine
>>
>>62129383
I missed the cheap SKS boat by a couple years, first rifle was a Mosin - still have it. I understand SKS's have gone up in price recently: what's a decent price for a no-frills shooter SKS? What model should I be looking for?
>>
>>62129383
i want one but i am worried i will never be able to feed it. ammo import bans suck

Yugos are the ones coming in consistently still, but they're about $700 now. I got lucky and bought my Yugo from a friend for $400.

I like the Type 84 just because of what its existence says about Chinese mentality.
