I have a Second Chance ballistic vest. Not sure the exact model, but it is Monarch Summit/Butterfly Lite. Sizing says something about "22 x 15" with a 1" Taper, I bought this off the KommandoStore and it was advertised as XL (I am 6'2 and 220)Panels are from 2006. We are in 2024 obviously. I need to replace them. Where can I find panels that will fit in here? I'm looking for Level IIIA.
>>62132294Are they in poor condition / damaged? Have they been exposed to adverse conditions via use or storage?
>>62132371probably. Here is a picture of the rear panels, it looks like there is mold here based on the discoloration. These are police trade-ins so I can't imagine these will handled or stored very nicely.
bump
>>62132294I'm gonna be real with you, chief. Replace that kevlar with a modern vest. Advancements in armor between 06 and now is worth the upgrade.
>>62132892Are you talking about getting ceramic/steel plates?AFAIK soft armor is still primarily Kevlar. And I am interested in soft armor a bit more at this time
>>62133137He means a modern kevlar vest
>>62133137UHWMPE. https://osnf.com/uhmwpe-vs-kevlar/
Do you shoot yourself every year while wearing it
>>62132294The panels you have are probably fine, and getting newer ones is an expensive hassle. If you are just fooling around I wouldn't worry about it, if you can get your employer to pay for it buy a new vest every 5 years.http://www.bulletproofme.com/How_Good_is_Police_Surplus.shtml
>>62133563The vest itself is a bit battered but it works. >>62133581Good article. It said that Kevlar still beats out UHWMPE for energy absorption (it's nice to not get a bullet penetrating you but I also don't want my organs liquified), for QoL, like its resistance to heat, humidity, etc., UHWMPE wins out. I'll have to look into it more.Would this be a good UHMWPE vest? https://bulletproofzone.com/products/compassarmor-armored-uhmwpe-soft-body-armor-vest>>62133639Nope>>62133850Only thing I am worried about is the discoloration on them that I posted in an earlier pic - it almost looks like mold. And yeah I've heard old armor will hold up well *given that it is treated and stored correctly*. This is police surplus that was made nearly 20n years ago, coppers aren't well known for treating their gear well, hence why I am interested in replacing the Kevlar.
