A lot of countries still use AKs because they can manufacture them domestically for dirt cheap, if you're going to be shipping the rifles in anyway there's so many companies that would rather have you buy their shit than some dusty old M4s that I imagine the price between cool and non-cool rifles is fairly comparable. You also get the morale boost of your soldiers knowing that not only do they have a reliable rifle that can defeat enemies, it is also cool enough to swag on the enemies and break their spirit.
