>>62471019You mean erupt? But actually no, though it'd cause a big mess. Explosive eruptions are due to a build up of pressure. Firing the GBE obliterates all baryonic matter with a sizable radius of the firing axis, creating enormous long tunnels through solid matter. Shooting it into Earth (doesn't matter where, at high power it can penetrate hundreds of kilometers so you'll pen a tectonic plate wherever) just provides a clean hole for magma to bubble out of. Like the Hawaii volcanoes where it's just constantly magma smoothly pouring down.Shooting yellowstone would relieve any pressure and build up, and "just" result in the entire area getting covered in magma. Obviously the park and all geysers and such would be destroyed but it wouldn't cause any similar global effects.

>>62467186>angel linksYes, that's the sequel. It takes place in the same universe but there's hardly any crossover between the two shows. None of the main Outlaw Star characters appear in it, only a handful of minor characters like Fred Luo (the flamboyant weapons dealer), Duuz (the triceratops dude with the huge handgun) cross over. Angel Links is nowhere near as good as Outlaw Star. It's not worth your time honestly, and I say that as a huge OS fan.

>>62472442That's a bummer. Any other related shows?
>>62472773Nope. I really kept hoping for a direct sequel since the first show certainly leaves room for more adventures but nope, there hasn't been any more. Which really sucks.
>>62472442I could have sworn I remember Angel Links was a prequel or at least "sidequel" not a sequel, taking place in the previous era a couple of decades before Outlaw Star. But basically completely disconnected in all respects beyond a few references. I agree with you it was sort of a flop, kernel of an interesting story was there but it had none of the magic that made OS work.>>62472812I've gotten used to it. Tons of fantastic series that leave you wishing for more don't get it, but in the rare times when you do get more I've found I often regret it because rarely can they seem to recapture the same soul (and team or other factors) that bottled lightning the first time around. Not never, sometimes new stories or sequels are great, but I think at the end of the day I'd rather be left wishing for more and with great untold heights then an exploitive flop. At the end of the day that's part of what I enjoy about the genre, that they're not quite as addicted to mining existing IPs even if they get big, which leaves more room to try crazy stuff like OS was in the first place.
>>62472812Ah damn, I doubt they'll touch it now. Probably for the best, I don't know if they can do it again.
>>62472718>>62457852>>62459291>Dead or alive, you're coming with me!
>>62472998>or at least "sidequel" not a sequelThat is definitely more accurate. "Sequel" was poor word choice on my part. It seems to be a side-story in the same universe since those handful of characters overlap and appear to be the same age. But yeah, it didn't have any of the OS magic, the characters were a lot less interesting and the plot was super formulaic:>bad guy shows up>uh oh, bad guy is winning, what do we do?>better shoot him with the links cannon>wow great idea, why didn't we do that in the first placerepeat for the next episode. The music was nowhere near as good either. It had a good OP, that's about it.> but in the rare times when you do get more I've found I often regret it because rarely can they seem to recapture the same soul That is very true, quite often the sequels are nowhere near as good as the original but sometimes you get gems, or they're at the very least good enough. For example, take Bubblegum Crisis. Crash was a good, though perhaps not quite as good direct sequel. AD Police Files was an in-universe prequel that honestly kicks ass despite only sharing one character. The later TV reboots were meh (Crisis 2040) and downright terrible (AD Police Protect and Serve)>I'd rather be left wishing for more and with great untold heights then an exploitive flopThat's a valid point. I can think of multiple shows where direct sequels utterly failed to capture the magic of the original: The aforementioned AD Police files. ToHeart (how's that for a change of genre?), Irresponsible Captain Tylor... But other times the sequels are fantastic, every bit as good or perhaps better than the originals, like the 2nd 3x3 Eyes OVA for example. So it's a balancing act. People want more of the same or at least comparable quality as the original, and that's not always possible. At some point every show eventually "jumps the shark".
>>62473118All fair points to you too anon.Reflecting a bit, I will say that in some respects the Angel Links style (or as you say ADP) would maybe be my default preferred "expansion" of an IP. They get to lean on existing world building and references to some degree, but also get real creative freedom with mostly/all new characters, and it can stand or fail on its own. If it's awesome great, fans of the original can be pointed at it and it might not be the same old loved characters but it does enrich the whole universe. But on the other hand if it's mediocre or crap it doesn't hurt the original in any way either. AL was meh, but that doesn't touch my memories of OS in the slightest since it was its own thing. No making the original characters retarded in some way. So it doesn't make me mad either. I would have liked if it was awesome in its own way, but I don't mind they tried. Whereas some sequels are such garbage it kinda taints how you feel about the og.Of course as you say a truly awesome sequel is the best of all. So I guess it's maybe "possibility of higher highs but also risk of lower lows" vs "less benefit from/to the first, but less damage potential as well" maybe if that makes any sense.
>>62471799Ok, on max power, in which the range is effectively unlimited? Also, I forgot, the GBE works in tandem with the City, doesn't it?
>>62473706>Ok, on max power, in which the range is effectively unlimited? We never see it just punch all the way through the megastructure, it's only in an afterward at the end when that surviving silicon lifeform encounters killy that he shoots a whole in the exterior and we see the "end" of the structure for the very first and only time. I mean, granted the size is probably something like out to the orbit of Mars, implication is the growth went out of control and formed a Kardashev Type II civilization level structure where most of the energy of the star is captured and most/all of dumb matter in the solar system has been or is being consumed. Still I think it only has unlimited range in theory, given an infinite energy source and infinite durability a graviton weapon would have no range limit. In practice not even Killy actually has that though.Even so, if you actually punched a kilometer wide hole straight through the Earth, it'd "just" fill right back up again in the middle, liquid and all that. It'd be an enormous shield volcano on each side though that'd probably last thousands of years. I presume significant earth quakes etc too. Interesting question really, like, what WOULD the exact effects be? I'm not a geologist/volcanologist.>Also, I forgot, the GBE works in tandem with the City, doesn't it?I don't remember that being implied. He seems to power it himself, first time he goes to a higher setting he does so by harvesting power out of a bunch of fallen safeguard. But it may be later he regains some sort of link to the City since he was the safeguard prototype unit.Blame never bombards us though with massive worldbuilding wordswordswords, just lots to see and think about by implication. You could be right.

>>62501392Such a cool gun but using it is for filthy shitters.
>>62500223If you set it to baby mode first incapacitate the 50 people or whatever it is it'll reverse to the headshot mode instead
>>62495844Yeah mate, I don't think anyone is gonna get close enough to you in the middle of a firefight to count them rounds.

>>62501942Aha. I knew they must had a .22 LR version or some shit.

Dick), "2019 Detective Special", "M2019 Blaster", or "LAPD 2019 Blaster".>This prop was constructed from parts of a Steyr Mannlicher .222 Model SL and a Charter Arms Bulldog revolver. Side covers were added to cover the Bulldog's cylinder, and different bolt heads and screw heads were used to offer an illusion of knobs and controls. The gun was also equipped with at least 6 LED lights, though not all of them worked throughout the production. Unfortunately, as with many fictional gadgets that feature in films set in the near-future, there is no sign of this gun being put into production in 2019.>The original prop was auctioned and ultimately sold for US$270,000 to movie prop collector Dan Lanigan.>For the 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, an original prop was secured by the movie production and was carefully recreated for use in the sequel.

>>62508903melta weaponry as mcrowave fusion beamers.they impart so much energy to the target that it undergoes fusion to dump the excess energy and return to resting un-hyperexcited states. resulting in massive infrared, alpha, beta and gamma radiation dumping.
Lt Col Kilgore
One of the coolest fictional gun ideas I ever read was in this Evangelion ripoff book about ten years ago at a tramping hut.Not sure if the science exactly holds up today, but it was a cool idea for a scifi gun imo.TL:DR>Fuckoff big cannon that gets mounted onto a fuckoff big starship mecha, made out of alien star god, to use it.>Horrifying lovecraftian alien creatures can basically flaunt most fundamental laws of physics, change their shape, output the collective power of a star in a burst of rage, and their own physical forms are more tools of their actual selves, pushed out from a core breach.>Gun worked by a range of different methods to selectively leech energy from a target point, bringing it down to basically absolute, true zero. With the idea being that this alters how material behaves, how the laws of physics act on an object, and can even convert matter to energy (something something e=mc^2, without e, m naturally converts to extents to e to meet equilibrium) with sustained firing. >This got around how the aliens' bodies worked, powered the alien mecha, and got used in a couple of different, deranged ways (predictive firing into an oncoming laser to cancel it out, firing to impairment until it's leeching its own heat, to then impale an alien like it was a sword) because the pilot was an absolute gigachad who understood people were rightly terrified of these things ending all existence. If I remember the name of it, I'll post it. It was half-retarded, half objectively fantastic. Pic obviously unrelated.
Easy choice.

>>62509890It almost look like a light saber with a pistol grip and trigger welded on, but then again from what I know about starwars gun tech and light saber tech, I'm honestly surprised that there aren't more guns that look that this...Well actually I shouldn't be suprised since it's because of the first movie's props most people stick to the style of futureifying old guns, and the lore for how how they work came afterwards only really thinking about their results and not really why their shaped the way they are
>>62509890What's the canonical explanation for how blasters are powered? Is there just a battery in each of them that eventually needs to be replaced?
don't got a picture but it's a dark matter shooting handgun
>>62511641Blasters are basically plasma guns, and they technically have 2 different ammo types.1. The power cell(this can last for a considerable amount of time and is usually recharged in between fights when possible but rarely will anyone ever actually run dry on their power cell)2.gas cannister that holds the Tibanna(catch all for blaster compatible gasses) that gets super heated into plasma that becomes the bolt(this is what you usually see people reloading in the series cause the gas is used up much faster than the cell)Light sabers are similar in that they to a magnetically contained plasma weapons but the crystal allows an intensity that it doesn't need special tibanna to function and any kind of gas work(like oxygen/nitrogen or what not) so they can when available suck up present gasses and use them later

It's not even close. The M41A is the best. It's not an opinion, you can't argue. How does it fell sci fi media artists? How does it feel that you will never do better, that SCIFI gun aesthetics eternally peaked in the mid 80's?Everything else will be eternally mogged and cucked. The 40k Bolter is a distant second, but the M41 is just a sleeker, more refined, cooler and more grounded and practical evolution of that concept.

I think to qualify the gun would have to do something canonically that a normal gun couldn't, otherwise it would just be a prop, a Mauser with plastic junk glued onto it is a real Mauser. I like akiras laser gun, because it comes from hard Scifi, it has its own limitations, operating procedure. It doesn't exist but it adheres to reality not some shit like Thor's hammer. Akiras lazer doesn't change its characteristics to suit the plot, its not like dreds gun which is a crutch for lazy writing. I like how akira isn't very good at using it, it's not part of his character, he doesn't always carry it.The effect on target is interesting in that it cuts through things but unlike many lazer weapons the terminal effect is damaging, it's not like a light saber which just leaves cut out holes in things
>>62488121Hilda was taken from us too early
Nausica is jammed full of imaginative weapons. Her jesail is entirely linear, very simple, has a realistic mechanical action. She does things like take apart a cartridge to use the powder to start fires, there's a level of understanding in its use. The bulk of the weapon is indicative of poor material technology, just like the Afghan jesails. If you dug up a Mauser action , just banding it between two planks and reinforcing it externally would be exactly how you would turn it into a working gun. The trigger guard is removed to accommodate gloves, contextually relevant. The large bore is suggestive of low velocity powder and a large projectile, it's a large game rifle and sets nausica as a character apart of from soldiers who carry far more industrial, military guns.
