Great news, after more than 40 years, the Frecce Tricolori will replace their aging MB-339s with the M-346 Advanced Jet Trainer, reverting the decision to equip the team with the small and underpowered M-345. Today they unveiled the new livery designed by Pininfarina. Also general acrobatic jet teams.
>>62492297quite a handsome little plane.
>>62492297Some more pics
>>62492306yup, I really like flying it in msfs even if the flight model is a bit janky there.
I can't tell if this pic is cgi or not.
Pic rel is the M345 which was the one they chosen at first but thankfully they changed their mind and went for the m346. here a video of it taking off.>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52KGKL447Wcmeanwhile here is a video of a m346 taking off>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrS4pqlfO3c
>>62492297They should lighten the blue color to look like their old plane.
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2u3wM6V2x4I hope this isn't spam, here at the 31 minute you can see the unveiling of the new m346
>>62492297Glad to see the best display team in the world getting new planes
>>62492477That's the Turkish Stars
>>62492297Why don't they use Eurofighter? Is it that bad?
>>62492524>Why don't they use EurofighterIt's rarely a good idea to use fighters for these kinds of duties. It's MUCH cheaper to use trainers.Operating costs are significantly lower, and it doesn't cost as much if you crash.
>>62492524The majority of military aerobatic teams use advanced trainers. The US is one of those who don't, because the T-38 is an obsolete POS with shit flight characteristics. Generally, the air forces using shitty trainers tend to go for actual fighter craft.
>>62492297>2024>dogtoothGrim
>>62492549and it's highly likely the next aerobatic team plane for the US will be the T-7A.At the moment the Blue angels are using F/A-18E/F and will do so for at least another decade or two, but eventually they'll switch to a trainer more than likely.USAF Thunderbirds are similarly using F-16s, but once those start to get taken out of service over the next few decades, they'll be switching to a trainer as well more than likely. The F-35 and F-22, NGAD, and F/A-XX will never be used for team aerobatics as the things that make good stealth jets tend to limit aerobatic performance. They will be used for singular flight demonstrations at air shows like the F-22 and F-35 currently do. So yeah, USN and USAF are headed towards using trainers again too.
>>62492572Yep, once they get the Redhawk, they'll likely switch over to it for aerobatics.
>>62492572>>62492594No way Boeing and Saab need at least a decade for a fucking trainer
>>62492524putting aside 20 eurofighters for an acrobatic team is too expensive.
>>62492572>T-7ANah, the f16 and f18 will be used for at least 2050, making the next plane most likely a new jet trainer that doesn't yet exist
>>62492676T-38 is 50 years old and still going, in 2050 the T-7As will be ~20-25 years old and just fine for aerobatics use.and more than likely we'll see the transition happen in the mid or early 2040s when most of the T-7As will be ~10-15 years old.
>>62492360Kind of funny that the original version of the m345, the S-211, is still in service today in flip's air force
>>62492297>replace their aging MB-339sSLANDER! SHE IS YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL
>>62492323>I really like flying it in msfssame, if you fly near Rivolto air base you can often find people practicing some of the frece tricolori manouvers.
>>62492695>T-7AsI don't trust nu-boeing planes
>>62492332Sexiest livery I've ever seen after Martini Racing.
>>62492360The C-101 Aviojet is less powerful than the m345 and it's still plenty enough for the Patrulla Águila. If anything the m346 is too powerful and with the flybywire like the f16 it will force the frecce to fly like the Thunderbirds, where they can fly really close but they can't do any "throw around" manouvers or complex acrobatics
>>62492332>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otwAWizzCEsCGI, no way to record them that close
>meanwhile, Canada is suffering with CT-114 Tutors built in 1963 for the Snowbirds
so M345 is officially a failure, right?
>>62496171Looks like it. It's basically just an upgraded SIAI-Marchetti S.211. It's a really good trainer for phase 2 and 3 but it not suitable for large scale formation flying.
>>62492746Aged like fine Mozzarella
>>62496274aged mozzarella rots. She aged like fine Bagoss
>>62496673>aged mozzarella rots
>>62496691then you're rude.the mb339 is beautiful
>>62492477I know eveyone likes to pretend their team is the best but the benchmark has always been set by the red arrows. Royal Jordanian falcons are very entertaining too but they fly prop aircaft so tend not to be seen in the same light.Inb4 some amerifat comes in with some fly by wire display team.
>>62496712I think she's fine but unremarkable, just saw a chance for a joke and took it.
>>62496724>red arrowslmaoThunderbirdsBlue angelsFrecceSwiss onesRed arrows (incredibly boring display)
The M346 is shit and nobody can convince me it's inferior to it's contemporary advanced trainers
>>62496747Bring forth a single argument
>>62496737I already INB4'd half your list.
>>62496859The frece tricolori and the swiss display team both fly planes without flybywire and they both fly better, more engaging routines and are more skilled. Flying in a straight line over your inbred royals who took your guns away is not impressive.
>>62492297What I love about this is that commies are having an absolute meltdown over this. They wanted to abolish the frecce tricolori over their cost and the fact they use smoke in their shows.
>>62498518>What I love about this is that commies are having an absolute meltdown over thisWe should just bomb Bologna. Again.
>>62499037impossible, they stink too much. You can't get close for a traditional ccip bombing run and their stench masks the tgp laser
>>62499181Just put a bomb on a train, like the good ol' times
>>62495996>CGI, no way to record them that closeFaggot
>>62499505look at their airshows, they only ever use 360 cameras inside the cockpit. They never have a chase plane
>>62499521They usually have 9 planes in formation an one "maverick" doing sick tricks, so the recording could be from the solo pilot
>>62499543>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otwAWizzCEs&list=LL&index=2to me it looks like cgi, look at the end. Plus from what I can gather they only have one plane now in that livery as they plan to transition to the m346 in the next 2-3 years.
>>62499588It's 100% CGI
>>62492297cute Alphajet
>>62499588>to me it looks like cgi, look at the endIdk, they move about a bit too much. I'd suppose they would have less side-to-side movement if they were CGI.
>>62499668nah looks at flight sims, they can recreate that now
Wonder where the old MB-339 will end up?Who still uses em?
>>62492477After the Red Arrows and Snowbirds, yes
>>62503421They will be probably still be used for lower level training until they can completely replace them with the 345 and 346. The actual PAN 339 will probably end up in museums. >who still uses them?pic rel, which I bet are going to dwindle as the years go by as even if a third world country is looking to purchase a cheap trainer/light attack a m345 would be pricier short term but cheaper long term as the operational costs of the mb339 are higher nowadays. I hope more private companies buy them like they had done with the l39 since it would allow civilians to give them a spin.
>>62499543>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdBfm7Ox4FENew video, it's 100% CGI, look at the ground.
>>62503542IMHO the red arrows and the frecce tricolori are around the same skill level. I like the italian routine more but I have a bias being half italian. The snowbirds are just ok, both the thunderbirds and blue angels and the PAF are better.
>>62503564Yeah, very obviously CGI in the first clip, but 100% confirmed CGI in this 2nd one.The pilots are all identical and don't look around at all, which seems odd for close-formation flying.
>>62503564Jesus that's a sexy plane.
I had the chance to put on an helmet of a M346 here in Poland. The guys there told me the plane can be sold and set up to train from a 4th gen to a 5th gen with the use of fancy simulation softawares and helmets to train a pilot for the f35. The helmet had a video projected into your eye that allows you to have situational awareness 360 degree almost like the DAS on the f35.It seems to me that with these new trainers you're buying more the program and the plane is just an accessory as everything is becoming digital
>>62503806still good to see the italian choose our dear Bielik
>>62503806modern trainers are basically just stripped down Gen 4+ planes, and as far as gen 5 is concerned not much changes in the general flight training, everything is gonna be about the specific stealth airframe (F-22 vs F-35 vs B-21, etc)There is no point in making a "5th" gen trainer since 5th gen is stealth and you don't need stealth for training.
I'm in Jesolo right now waiting for the Frecce Tricolori show. There is an eurofighter doing a solo show now.
>>62503871c27j now
>>62503972m346 now
>>62503817>still good to see the italian choose our dear BielikWhat? That's an M346, not an EM-10, of which there is only one single prototype
>>62492297saw them when they flew over manhattan last monthwould love to see this plane in a single seat configuration marketed as a low cost fighter
>>62503871there was also a swiss f18
>>62492297Gorgeous as fuck but it looks too different from all past frece tricololi
>>62492477Agreed
>>62492306yup
>>62503871video for anyone interestedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMuXsvhJGzo
>>62503871>>62508981>it was yesterdayFuck me. Next year I guess. Is there anything in program in the following months nearby, at Aviano or Istrana perhaps?
>>62509226They haven't posted anything yet. I only see them at lignano sabbiadoro today 15 sectember if you live nearby, then they are in Rome the 29th
>>62509226btw at lignano it's starting in 10 min
>>62509270>>62509275Yeah, nah, I missed the entire season this year. Love freccie, but goddamn, they've been doing the exact same routine for fucking decades, they should really update it a bit.
>>62509419all acrobatic teams do the same manouvers since decades. No need to improve something that works. Not to mention to implement a new routine it would take at least 5 years from approval to safety to implementation.
>>62509419>exact same routine for fucking decadesThey introduced the scintilla in 2019, crazy flight was introduced in the early 2000s, apollo 313 in 1995, Heart and arrow in the 80s etc. Inform yourself before saying shit
>>62509437>2000siirc the schneider was in 2011
>>62504847>would love to see this plane in a single seat configuration marketed as a low cost fighterThat's already happening. It's being marketed to South American and East Asian countries as a cheap multirole.
>>62509528>That's already happeningwhat are they calling it?
>>62509683spaghetto
>>62509683>what are they calling it?M346-FA
>>62509947that's still a dual seater tho
>>62492297Got to see them a few months ago in Chicago. Nice to see that they went with more power.
>>62510502
>>62510502>>62510509nice pics
>>62509683
>>62492297looks amazing
>>62503590Lol no, Italians are the best at this. Hands down. Nobody can compete with them.
>>62503542LOL no ahahah. Nobody beats the Italians at this, sorry.
>>62503654yeah, it's a promotional video for the new livery taken from the m346 simulator that you get if you buy the trainer. Full package simulators are really neat. They also have staff on call 24/7 in case you have a pilot in training in need of a wingman in the sim.
>>62492477>>62496873>>62503590>>62511947why do frecce always fly so far from each other? skill issue?
>>62515047>why do frecce always fly so far from each other?Because all acrobatic teams outside of the US understand that what is important is to maintain an aesthetic balance to their aerobatics. Also they are 10, not 4. The Red Arrows and the Frecce Tricolori absolutely mog the display of the blue angels.
>>62509528>>62509947you got my hopes up, but that's a two seater
>>62515047why only 4 blue angels? money issue?
>>62516300that's called diamond formation, it consists of 4 jets, let me know it you need to explain more aviation related questions, I'm always glad to help those who know fuck all about the subject
>>62516529>tries to banter on other acrobatic teams by asking retarded question>can't take the same banter in returnSorry friendo, didn't mean to cut you too deeply. Since you're ready to school me, why are the blue angels in your pic not flying that close anymore once they are more than 4 in a formation? (in case you're an actual autist I'll just tell you outright I am joking and I like all teams)
>>62492297As a pizza person I am concerned and disappointed.Disappointed because the mb339 was a better plane for the roleConcerned because I don't know if you can push the m346 as much as the macchi, without paying the price.
>>62517977Well, you can forget the volo folle, the lomcovak and the freefall. The FBW system wouldn't allow that. It's something that had to happen, the macchino was getting old, and no new trainer nowadays has the same amount of low speed manouverability as the mb339.Everything is similar to the m346 like the south korean fa50 or the american one made by boeing and saab
>>62496126>SufferingThose things are cools as fuck and you should be proud to see them flying you dirty fucking snownigger
>>62518037What is the point of getting something less performing? Marketing? We would have save millions by making new mb339s
>>62520660It's not less performing. It's more performing in every aspect beside low speed flying. It's just the nature of new trainer and fighter jets. Beside a few old prop planes the macchino was the only plane able to do all those manouvres, but the production line IIRC has been closed for a a while and making new mb339 and maintaining them would've been way more expensive. Not to mention that they are choosing this plane also as a marketing campaing to try and sell more of them to international clients. (the m346 has been a commercial success compared to the m345) So if anything we saved millions by replacing the 339. It's sad since it's a beautiful aircraft but it was bound to happen sooner or later.
>>62510502i missed them
>>625150471. That's false (see pic)2. They don't have to compensate like the Blue Angels
>>62515047
>>62516529Just 6 jets? Muh skill issue
>>62521900what is that picture from? Are they already flying?
>>62492297>PininfarinaWhy are Italian names so fucking funny?
>>62526287microsoft flight simulator. a game.>>62526302God had to nerf us after the roman empire. Sadly he did not stop at funny names.
Blue Angels >>>>> Thunderbirds
>>62526302>Why are Italian names so fucking funny?Hey Cletus, take your meds. Greg's waiting for ya
>>62526302>Why are Italian names so fucking funny?Without funny names Luigi might have crossed Izonso.
>>62526311sexy
>>62521900Shutting down the mb339 line was dumb. There are still plenty of countries that fly them and even France recently bought some for fleet support. Now that small light attack aircraft are having a surge in popularity the italians could've sold a shitload of them.
>>62526205Not sure if 22 aircraft has been beaten.
>>62532193That's seriously impressive.
