Why did the French come up with such a stupid idea when designing a tank?
>>
Wdym retard?
>>

Is this the Leclerc optic that's mechanically slaved to the main gun.
>>
>>62514747
You mean the coaxial .50BMG?
Yeah it's fucking stupid lmao
So stupid in fact everybody is now doing the same 30 years after the fookin frogs.
Same with autoloaders. They were so stupid when the Frogs did it. Now they're the best thing since slice bread. Especially the Korean K2 one. Which is a direct copy of the Leclerc's.

Thanks OP for the daily reminder francophobes are ALWAYS retarded.

I drove from Belgium to Spain last week. France is a shithole.

Most modern tanks have fairly poorly protected gun mantlets, it has to do with the difficulty of balancing the gun with a bunch of heavy armor ahead of the trunnion.
The challenger 2 for example only has ~200mm of steel protection on the mantlet area.
I think generally it's assumed that the steel bulk of the trunnion and the gun breech can absorb a round at the expense of a mission kill.

>it has to do with the difficulty of balancing the gun with a bunch of heavy armor ahead of the trunnion
What is a counterweight? You can visibly even see it with the Russians when they modernize ancient 2A46s to 2A46M-#s where they change the counterweight pieces because of the gun weight difference between them. That aside, Soviet lineage MBTs have absolute jack shit for manlet armor and might as well be chow for autocannon hits taking the main gun out.
>>
>>62515170
Trunnions should be more like Onions.
>>
>>62515192
Soviet tanks have no mantlet. They have embrasure, just hole in the turret armor for the gun.

the M1 abrams has special armor on its mantlet
we dont know how thick the armor is on the turret cheek other than "stronger than the frontal hull" but the turret armor looks similiar in construction to the lower hull
just with only 3 NERA plates intersecting a possible attack, a thinner front plate, and a thicker back plate

the void between the backplate and the NERA is probably where parts of the gun might go
the armor is the way that it is almost certainly due to space constraints and shape constraints
it is worth noting that the gun mantlet on the M1 is extremely tiny compared to the cheeks and only really visible when looking straight ahead (ie the tank is looking at you) so the only time the mantlet could be exploited is if two tanks are looking dead at each other

Its not a direct copy, its bigger and actually works
>>

OP, you’re a fucking retard.

I only hate the French because it's funny to, I don't actually hate the French.
I don't like your imported colonists though.
>>
>>62515170
>generally it's assumed that the steel bulk of the trunnion and the gun breech can absorb a round at the expense of a mission kill.
Yes that's pretty much it.
They can replace the entire breach block later in its entirety.

>drove from belgium to spain

the shithole is on top of your neck
>>
>>62515192
it's generally bad engineering practice to increase oscilating mass, especially farther and farther out from the fulcrum. Counterweights are nice and all, but you just increase the deadweight that the elevating gear has to move, you increase the momentum of the entire assembly once it gets moving that then has to be decelerated by the mechanism and so on and so forth. plus, as >>62515412 mentioned, soviet tank mantlets are ridiculously tiny because of the embrasures.
>>
>>62515477
also french roads are generally in a better condition then ours
I personally blame the d*tch and their camper vans
>>
>>62514747
the chance of a hit on a mantlet is extremely small

God I love it, I love to be French and be aware that we're annoying people like yourself
Thanks for giving me another good reason to feel happy and proud. You cheered me up even though I am having a good day

Autoloaders EERE kind of stupid in most iterations then, they're now much more viable making them less stupid

Funnily enough gaijin even redisgned the cr2 mantlet in game to contradict this claim, but then they ignored it and kept the old protection values.

You need to add countermass if your system's CoM is so far along that the drive system can't deal with it. The momentum increase offsets extreme imbalance.
>>
>>62515115
Actually, 50cal coaxials are out of fashion. Everyone's now opting for more powerful 30mm gun b/c drones are now the hottest thing right now. Also, that giant cavity in the gun shield is a fucking menace.

chinese gen x?

You don't mount a 30 as a coax though, you mount it as a top CROWs

We were talking about the turret, not the calibre specifically.
