It's plastered with Nizh, Kontak-1 and has a folding antidrone net, of course it looks funky
>>
>>
>>62516790
Not only funky but L2-ish, I'm sure that they're doing it on purpose.

Holy shit didn't even notice that.

Abominable nato tech. The real stuff is lost technology blyat from the dark age of USSR.

>obr
Okay so I'm retarded. I keep on seeing shit be listed like this. What does "obr" mean? I have no clue and its been going on for so long I've been afraid to ask without being yelled at.
>>
>>62516931
It’s an abbreviation for “model” used by the Russian armed forces.
>>
>>62516931
obr = obrazets (in ru)
Pattern, model, version, etc.
>>
>>62516931
Obrazets, meaning model as above post says
Usually refers to modification to existing tanks
Whereas A, B, U are for major manufacturing revisions
K is for command variants, V is for ERA-capable

It is short for "obrozets" meaning "sample/model/version."

When the soviets (and now Russia) put a new lick of paint on something old, nominally updating it but oftentimes barely doing anything, they called it XYZ obr. [year of update]

>Leopard 1A5 obr. 2024
>Leopard 1A5 ver. 2024
or
>Leopard 1A5 M2024

naming a german Leo that you use "obr. 2024" is picking fun at soviet history and is a little self-deprecating in this case.

Dont tanks use sabots for shooting other tanks anyways? Seems the ERA doesnt do much for those.
>>
>>62517214
The biggest threat a tank will face is AT, artillery and drones. I'm not even sure a tank will have a 1% chance to end in combat with another tank in it's lifecycle

Darts are for going through tanks. APFSDS shells, and ERA still impacts how deep they can go.
>>
>>62517214
>Seems the ERA doesnt do much for those.
Nizh and other modern ERA often come with features designed to break up APFSDS penetrators. Doesn't nullify them but can reduce their penetration.

Of course, the leo1 has no armor underneath so it doesn't really matter, any kinetic round will pen.

Real
> I'm not even sure a tank will have a 1% chance to end in combat with another tank in it's lifecycle
Thats because most countries who make tanks haven't had near peer wars in a long time. It needs to be able to in the event they have a near peer conflict

most russian tanks still use HEAT it seems, they were supposed to have some giga-super-missile-sabot shit but that clearly hasn't been the case.

Most Russian tanks went into this war with old-ass mango rounds, plus a handful of the giga-super-missile (Svinets) rounds spread between each company of tanks....on paper. Ukies said they found only soviet rounds in captured tanks, but the ones with the good stuff might have participated in the turret toss Olympics.

Both sides mostly use HE shells now
>>
>>62517886
Aren't Svinets only compatible with T-90s (plus restrictions on the carousel capacity)?
>>

Well no, thats a Leopard 2
>>

>plus restrictions on the carousel capacity
Oh yea there is that. Plus irrc you could only place it in certain spots in the carousel.

That's a T-62, the turret is too round to be a T-55 and you can see the shell casing extractor hatch.
>>
>>62518384
>T-5x or T-6x
Anon, are you literate? The writing clearly says that's a Leopard 2. The hatch is a field modification so the crew of Boris Johnsons can be fed safely while they're in a battle-frenzied state.

Is this article nonsense/k/?

Because the phrasing made it seem a bit dodgy.

You know I fucking love Ukrainian adaptations so much. I wish I had started my apprenticeship sooner so I could go over there and help build shit like this.

The rollers and other mine clearing shit they have put on western vehicles? So aesthetically pleasing. The mig-8 with western rocket launchers? Fuck yes.

I just wish we'd seen more of it. Like they came up with a package for the T-62's they captured similar to the medications on the M-55s' they have from Slovenia.

Even the bassinet-type drone nets are aesthetic, somehow. Bless farming nations that obsessively adapt.
>>
>>62516830
They would have to era and drone-net/mesh the fuck out of that too. Overall effect would be a frog poking it's eyes out from underwater in a pond covered in leaf litter.
