I saw people say online that the army and marines did not let soldiers use the big hole on the M16A2 sights. is this fuddlore?

in training? i guess
in practice? use what works

I was told the big hole was for when wearing mopp gear because the little hole is too difficult to see through the gas mask.

Unit SOP is sometimes bullshit. This is an example of that. Big hole is for low light and rapid acquisition at closer ranges.

How the fuck would they even enforce that other than just sawing off sights?

Some dudes in Fallujah apparently didn't even use their sights indoors. They would just do point-shooting by looking over their irons or ACOGs

The instructors acted like the small hole didn't even exist from my personal experience
