How effective are tanks in modern warfare?
I see a bunch of conflicting takes saying that they're effectively obsolete, but that they're still necessary for the breakthrough role, no actually they're unkillable unless you have air superiority/a peer tank force.

So, what's the answer?
Also, keep the Ukraine shit flinging to a minimum, I can go to any other thread to a hear a bunch of retards go on about "Orc cope cages" and such.

TL;DR current generation armored vehicles are vulnerable as fuck to drones and ATGMs, but still really useful. At the end of the day, a mobile cannon is still better protected than a dude lugging a rifle, and is far more capable at engaging certain targets on the battlefield.

The problem is that most armies don't cover their tanks with drone-absorbant school girls packed to the brim with explosive-reactive blueberry filling. This greatly reduces the effectiveness of modern armored vehicles.

>So, what's the answer?
What makes you think there's only one, and that all situations are the same?

In every major war, tanks turn out to be one of the most critical components. Regardless of everything else.

>How effective are tanks in modern warfare?
They are the basic unit of maneuver

>I see a bunch of conflicting takes saying that they're effectively obsolete
Wrong answer
>but that they're still necessary for the breakthrough role
Breakthrough and maneuver
They are the ones to both create and exploit weakpoints and then flank and encircle enemy forces

>no actually they're unkillable unless you have air superiority/a peer tank force.
Pointless statement
Everything is vulnerable if you dont have air superiority, which is why seizing it or at least denying it to the enemy is a day 1 priority
But you still need mobile forces to maneuver on the battlefield regardless

>So, what's the answer?
Every army worth its salt today relies on tanks as their primary mobile unit
The only armies that do not have large tank fleets are those that are poor or those that have few military commitments

Anytime you have a question, ignore what people say, listen to what they do
The largest armies in the world maintain tanks, small armies maintain tanks, those in peacetme have tanks, those in wartime have tanks
Everything everyone does, regardless of what people say, point to tanks being vital

they should serve the same role they did 110 years ago.
>big stronk metal punches hole into enemy line
>infantry swarm into the hole
>tank may or may not survive, but it's done what it needed to do
