The BAR is the more enduring design though, the Belgians flipped it upside down, gave it the ability to feed from belts, change barrels, and the FN MAG is still trucking.
the enfield was only used due to the price, the british tried to switch to the 1914 enfield pattern but ww1 put a stop to it, the SMLE is by no means a bad gun, it's a 'good enough' rifle
