Time for a new one.
I know there's a /HG/ thread but whatever, I'll ask here. I'm thinking about buying a P2000, why should or shouldn't i?

Yea

Emiliafags deserve mediocre handguns
>>
Pros: its HK and they look cool
Cons: modern subcompacts have better capacity with small dimensions

simpson's ltd. still has swiss LE trade-in p2ks and they all have LEM triggers.

Am I going to regret buying a standard basic-bitch Glock 19 as my first handgun? I've been looking at guns on and off for like a year now and I'm ready to make a purchase. Even after researching things I still think the G19 is what I want; it's reasonably-priced, easy to take apart, and most run well even with a bit of abuse. I also just like the blocky appearance.
Apparently they're returned frequently by first time buyers... because of the lack of a safety. I'm already aware of that and I don't really care, but is there more to it than that?

A G19 Gen 3 RTF2 was my first pistol. As much as I loved the compact size, etc. just like you said, I had nothing but problems with it from the beginning. Very erratic and weak ejection, cases straight to the face, and stovepipes. Sent it back to Glock and tried a ton of ammo and nothing fixed it. I'm sure Glock has (hopefully) tightened up their game since then, but I've never given Glock another try since, though I might someday try a 43x, maybe.

Sold it and bought a USPC and it has been my carry ever since over 10 years later now, along with another USPC.
Haven't had any problems aside from ammo (occasional hard primer or underpowered load), three worn out recoil springs, and one broken extractor between two of them. Probably a total of ~35-40,000rds. total between them.
I would recommend a USPC V1 or LEM, or a P2000, over the G19 if you have the option, every single time for a carry gun.

META QUESTION:
I started posting on /k/ in 2019 until about 2022, stuff in my life shifted me away from browsing /k/ so a couple years have slipped by.
I was just wondering why is this board so slow now. It was way more active just a couple of years ago. What happened?
>>
What are the best ways to sell ammo? Factory stuff, not bubba reloads.
>>
>>62783016
It's like a Honda Civic. Basic bitch, but in a good way. Works well, reliable, simple as can be, and anything you can possibly want for it is readily available.
>>62783514
There was a big surge of /pol/ posters around 2016-2020 that gradually wandered off over time, followed by a smaller but significant uptick of war tourists in 2022 when Putin asked his military to take a brief road trip through Ukraine. Each of these surges bring a wave of new posters who get a life and go do something else over time, but a few always stick around.

I for one like the slower change of pace. Better concentration of people actually interested in weapons and military history, here to actually discuss and debate their passion rather than piss in a sea of piss.
>>
>>62783516
Selling ammo is a PITA. Few people trust randos to sell ammo because you have no idea of the storange conditions or whether it really is factory ammo or if Bubba put handloads back in factory boxes. There are also hazmat fees involved with shipping ammo and unless you happen to be in that business the rate that you will be charged for that as an individual would be much higher than what dealers are charged. Unless it's some rare or special stuff you're going to take a massive hit on the price.

>full scale warfare
>not relevant to a weapons board
You're not upset because the board has changed, you're upset because your preferred side is losing.
/k/ never had any problems with the war in 2014 when everybody was Givi posting. Puccia starts getting their shit pushed in during 2022 and suddenly all the fa/k/ers and /pol/smokers are now butthurt and decide war threads "aren't weapons related" or are "off topic" on a board literally dedicated to weapons and warfare, lmao yeah right.

Aside from the influx of indians and other third world shitskins simping for puccia, the war has been great. We've watched entire truck and armor columns get decimated by javelins, frogfoots and flankers downed by stingers and starstreaks, and drone warfare take center stage as the next evolution of warfare. Shit is absolutely wild.
Cry elsewhere.

Do people with nothing but a red dot on their rifle actually ever shoot at distance? I have a really hard time making precise unmagnified shots even at 100 yards, anything past that I can’t imagine doing consistently with just a dot
>>
>>62786692
I think they're intending to use dots for closer quarters. I have a dot on my 11.5" AR. Obviously not meant for long ranges and a scope would look rather silly.
I've been thinking about building a 20" AR, putting a scope and bipod and whatever on it
>>
>>62786404
They're both second rate options, echelons better because it uses an FCU which could allow for some neat shenanigans
>>
>>62786692
Depends on what the rifles for. Ill just get a cheap dot if its not for long distance shooting, even hunting where I am isnt that much more than 150-200 feet max.
>>
>>62786692
Nah, if you're going to be regularly shooting 100 or more then you're dumb not to get a magnified optic. Inb4 muh ringing painted steel plates at x00 yards
>>
>>62786900
Beretta also does the whole swappable frame bullshit that nobody actually cares about
>>
>>62786692
Whats your definition of precise? Most people l see with dots are shooting man sized targets out to like 3-400 at the most
>>
>>62787114
I usually print out targets on a sheet of 8.5x11 inch paper. At 100 yards with magnification I can easily put shots into a tight group in the bullseye of the target, but without magnification I end up losing all that detail and simply aiming for the paper itself, and usually put down a much worse group. It’s worth noting that my eyesight isn’t that great.
Are people without magnified optics just not shooting for groups at distances like this?

Posts like these reveal how many new gun owners never really learn the fundamentals of marksmanship and instead depend on whatever gear they've bought.
Nobody is asking you to hold a super tight group, but managing to get repated hits on a C zone and printing a 6-9" grouping at 300 is very reasonable.
Shooting out to 300 yards with irons, and especially a dot, is not difficult with a little instruction and practice. If you aren't capable of that, I would strongly suggest looking up some youtube videos, reading an infantry manual, or maybe getting involved in a beginner's course before spending more money on gadgets.

2016 election fags fucked the board forever with the mass of their normie dead weight. Prepper threads, while mostly a joke about scenarios that were from least likely to impossible to happen, were an imminently board related subject. Absolutely ruined by a combo of anons that took it too far and nofunallowed faggots flooding any new threads with "muh never gunna happen" (yeah no shit) instead of just hiding threads they don't like. The last gasp of anything that made /k/ anything resembling to what people still meme about died in 2018, and the runoff from that lasted a little bit. There's no more SHALL posting because the zoomers that now dominate /k/ are too jaded to be pro-gun on here anymore or are just straight up anti-gun and don't believe in rights, with exception that their niche flavor of political extremism, their "side" gets to have guns of course. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. challenge is dead because that involves going outside and shooting guns and using gear. Any /k/ommando that actually wanted to go out and do /k/ related shit either just lurks now or straight up left the board. And the rest are just nogunz, yuros and jeets.

TL;DR what happened to /k/ is what happened to 4chan as a whole: Reddit won, social media won. The internet is dead.

I don't have enough time to become thoroughly skilled at both mid-long range shooting (400yds+) and CQB type drills (bill drills, Mozambique, target transitions, etc. basically anything that uses an IDPA target).
Which one should I focus on? I'm thinking mid-long range would be more fun and less expensive ammo-wise, but CQB would be more practical.
>>
Is there a chance 5.45 will ever be produced domestically? Considering several manufacturers produce 5.45 AKs, specifically PSA. They have their own ammo company, so I hope. I know a lot of people here like to seethe and mald about PSA
>>
>>62789572
I think Hornady already makes 5.45.
Probably not going to see a big expansion in it though. 5.56 is a better cartridge all around, even in AKs, and the biggest appeal to 5.45 was only because 7n6 used to be available for dirt cheap.
Barring another big surplus boom of 5.45, I'd say 5.45 is mostly kill.
>>
>>62789589
Didn't know Hornady made it. This will be nice to know, in case I ever win the lottery and can buy a Bulgarian gun...
>>
>>62789534
you can practice CQB drills with dryfire, I would say you'd learn more about trigger control and ballistics with the mid-long-range shooting
>>
>>62789534
If you are a civvie in CONUS, then, of the two, CQB skills is something you might conceivably one day have to call on to save your life. I am not familiar with any case in which a civvie has engaged at 400+ yards and a court has found that it was self-defense since the Second Battle of Adobe Walls. Now, if you wear a uniform, if you're on the SRT, if you're a squad DRM, disregard all of that. If you're in a nation that's at war, and you're pondering volunteering, then of the two skill sets, your country's military will probably have more use for you at the sharp end if you have long-range marksmanship skills than if you're under eight seconds on the El Presidente, and being on a scout-sniper team isn't quite the death sentence that assignment to a trench raiding party at the zero line is.

What do you do if one of the teeth from the barrel nut lines up with the gas tube hole? At 30 ft-lb one of the teeth is just barely starting to block the hole and after a couple trials I think it would take 200+ to get it past the hole. No way in hell is 85 going to do anything but maybe set it a little more squarely in front of the gas tube hole.

Does anyone else have a tinge of regret over a suppressor purchase? I was really happy how my guns were set up before getting a suppressor but now I feel the need to change them around to work better with one. My Surefire favorite flashlight handguard needs to be modified with a worse flashlight or removed entirely in order to work with a suppressor. My MP5k needs an 80 degree locking piece which now puts a like asterisk above the reliability of the gun with the suppressor off. What was once short and compact is now kinda clunky. Everything is absolutely caked in filth in 2-3 magazines. I spent on 500 rounds of 9mm subsonic ammo what could've been 1000 rounds of regular 9mm. It's cool as hell to show off when I'm shooting with other people and the full sized with the long can configuration and subsonics always puts a smile on people's faces but I find myself going on without a suppressor when I'm shooting alone.

No offense, but where do you shop? I know there's a price difference but 9mm subs do not cost twice as much s regular range ammo.

I was curious enough to go to Ammoseek. Results here are less than five minutes old. Price difference is around 20% for subsonics, if we're comparing them to the cheapest foreign steel-case blasting ammo, if I may be allowed to assume you don't buy reloads. This 20% price difference is before shipping, and I filtered out vendors whose shipping rates are above average. In 9mm defense ammo I don't see a significant price difference at all.
>>
>>62787980
I simply don’t have the opportunity available to try out different setups at long ranges like that often enough. My only experience with distances past 100 yards are often shooting small targets at 200-300 yards during 2 gun matches. Every nearby range I have available to me is unfortunately limited to 100 yards. I haven’t tried a red dot setup at one of these matches yet but everyone that did has consistently struggled at the distance shooting, granted we’re not exactly using man sized targets
>>
>>62791204
147 grain isn't subsonic in full sized MP5 8.8" barrels and isn't reliably subsonic in MP5ks with the 5.75" barrel so you need to go with 150 grain Syntech or 158 grain stuff which tends to hover around 40 cents a round
>>
>>62791293
Okay. I didn't know. Seller & Bellot makes a 150gr 9mm they claim is subsonic, and it can be found under 30 cents a round if you shop around a bit. Reviews on other gun forums say it's reliably subsonic in AKV's and MP5 clones, though I didn't see barrel length specified. They do say it's a bit dirty, and the pictures I see show a flat-nosed bullet with a wide meplat, and I don't know whether that might cause occasional feed problems. I'm just looking around online, of course. I didn't think 147s were supersonic out of an MP5. I thought the whole reason 147gr 9mm was created in the first place was to be subsonic in a suppressed MP5.

Focus on what gaps you have in your collection first and make a list of highest to lowest priority/want.

>>
>>62792879
My advice is once you've covered your basic needs start browsing generally rather than searching for one specific model at a time. If you focus on buying one specific model then you can easily end up overpaying for it, whereas instead if you maintain some sort of 'wish list' instead you can check off models as you find deals.
What really taught me this was when I started watching auctions. Nearly every auction I've been to I've observed people get in bidding wars over the specific gun they just have to have and end up overpaying by insane amounts. And at those same auctions there are also guns that sell for a fraction of their typical value. Use this to your advantage: you might even end up buying a gun you don't necessarily want yourself but if you get a killer deal on it you can leverage that to trade for the models you do want. Make a list of all the models you're interested in and start checking for all of them on some set schedule. Only buy something if and when the deals are exceptional.

Description says it's factory new ammo, at about $75/200 plus shipping. All I can find about the manufacturer is complaints in the form of 7+ year old Youtube videos about bad reloads and some purse swinging on /r/guns where most of the posts about the company's products are "it's great" or "it sucks" with no specifics. If it's repacked Fiocchi that's encouraging. I have never had problems with their ammo, though I've never seen a gelatin test of their 147gr 9mm.

It seems like pistol ammo prices are up generally and quality is down. I used to buy Blazer in the aluminum cases all the time and it was fine. Now I see all the complaints at places like ARFCOM about bad primers, primers blowing out, cases splitting, and worse. And CCI is very much not the only manufacturer having serious QC problems right now. It almost makes me want to take up knitting instead. Almost.

can anyone recommend a good torque wrench for working on guns/tightening mlok screws?
I'm full retard and have no clue what I need thanks
>>
>>62794049
Torque driver or torque wrench?
Most small componenets like you mentioned only need a driver. Over 50in lbs. you'll probably want a wrench.
Wheeler is cheap but usable, Vortex is a little more expensive but worth it. The fix it sticks ones seem nice, but they're expensive and I'd rather have an adjustable without a ton of different heads even if they're ~1-2lbs. inaccurate sometimes.
Don't forget your dry vs. wet torque values and to reduce torque by ~30% if using lubricant or similar.
>>
>>62793726
My go-to ammo is S&B and PPU. Cheap and consistently good quality. Even looks nice. There's another Czech manufacturer called STV that is new on the market and it runs pretty well although I haven't shot it as much.

Central and Eastern European ammo manufacturers are really helping hold the line on ammo cost and quality.
Besides them PMC out of South Korea and Magtech (CBC) out of Brazil are good.

Buying my first suppressor soon, I've settled on a dedicated 9mm can. Should I go fullsize or 'K'? Currently looking at the Specter 9 but i'm worried it might not be enough.

My only real experience with suppressors was with a friends enormous steel modular thing that was way to big and heavy for me to actually like using it so I want something smallish and light. I'd rather have a good can that works well in certain circumstances than one that sucks at everything.

I'm not really going for ultra quiet, just trying to be less obnoxious to neighbors on the home range and have a more appropriate HD gun without giving up too much size/weight. It'll probably get moved between PCCs and handguns.

I'm not sure what the difference is? I assume just a driver..?
I only need a 10 Ibs. rating for those little screws I think, I was checking them out but the ones I found were all 20+ Ibs. which I assume isn't what I need (was at a car shop)

Why is Ukraine not planting mines if they are retreating so fast and Russians advancing on their positions?

Full length. I hate the short suppressor trend. To me the full length at least removes the muzzle blast and quiets the shot a little, even moreso if you get subsonic rounds and/or shoot it wet. The compact ones only seem to just take the edge off the muzzle blast, seems like a waste to file a form 4 on one to me personally.
Don't own a compact can though, only full sizes and have only used a compact once.

Driver for 10-40in lbs, it's like a screwdriver. Wrench for 50in lbs or more, it's an actual wrench.
You want a driver for what you want to do it sounds like.

gotcha and yea that sounds like what I need
appreciate it thanks

I've heard people say that you need a barrel length of at least 4 inches to get the most value out of .357 and if your barrel is shorter than 4 inches just use .38 SPL +P. Is this true or fuddlore?

I've been thinking about buying my firsy gun lately. Would a S&W Model 19 be a good first gun to own? I prefer the look over revolvers over semi auto pistols and this is one of their models that fits the criteria that I made in my mind:
>not too small (snubbie) and not too large
>.357 magnum so I can start out with .38s. The Model 10 attracts my eye too but it'd be dumb to buy a revolver that can only fire .38s when I could buy a revolver that can do .357s AND .38s

Are entry-level Vortex optics like the Crossfire II and Diamondback actually any good, or have they just cornered the market by advertising their warranty that nobody will use at that price point anyway because they don't shoot their guns

I had some PMC 9mm 115gr ball that seemed really weak, dirty, and inconsistent. While I was shooting it I had one of those weird short-stroke failure-to-feed malfunctions in a pistol that's been otherwise pretty reliable. Oddly I used some more last week bought at the same place that was absolutely fine, except for being dirty.

I just got in from the range, function-testing the infamous painted P85. I put a Wolff reduced-power mainspring in it and it still sets off 100% of primers I've tried so far. It also feeds four different off-brand hollowpoints, with no apparent tendencies to nose-diving and no stoppages of any kind:

Aguila 117gr (very short OAL, jacket has no skives or notches
Ammo Inc 115gr "Sierra Match," bullets look like V-Crown from a distance but the hollowpoint is shallow and hemispherical in shape, though the jacket is notched around the edge of the cavity
"Herters" (Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's store brand made by Winchester, in Winchester case) 115gr JHP; it is essentially Winchester white-box 115gr JHP repackaged and sold at a slight discount
Prvi Partizan 147gr JHP, long OAL, notches around cavity, there is one Youtube video showing it actually expands in gelatin though they did not use heavy clothing as a barrier, mild recoil
plus fifty rounds of Magtech steel case 115gr hardball

I call it a success. 250 rounds of assorted off-brand ammo not known for reliable function in marginal firearms have demonstrated it to be reliable enough for me to use for defense. I do not shoot it well. I slow down on the DA trigger pull and can almost always stage it and hit almost exactly where I aim, but the SA trigger, though it is crisp, is still really really heavy, with a very long reset. I wonder if I should get some S&B to verify that it will always set off hard primers.

Go for it anon, the swiss LEM is apparently considered the best LEM. Just don't try to attach any lights to it, those rails look fucked up. Pretty cool that the trigger guard is angled like the 2000SK - the US version of the P2000 has the square trigger guard. Have fun finding a holster for it though. You will probably be stuck with 2000SK holsters due to the trigger guard

I'm kind of opinionated on the topic. From what I have read, though, there is some truth there, at least if we're talking about self-defense. Full-power .357 Mag ammo runs at pretty high pressures. This makes it dependent upon barrel length for performance and sensitive to things like barrel-cylinder gap, chamber throat dimensions, and so on.

I think, though, that the useful comparison, if we're talking about self-defense, is not .38 +P. Full-power .357 walks all over any .38 load, +P or otherwise, with size 14 hobnail boots regardless of barrel length. The sole possible exception is ammo from boutique makers like Underwood, where they are getting basically .357 velocities, so I assume the pressures are .357 level also. No, I think the useful comparison is between a full-size .357 "service revolver" and a full-size 9mm service pistol, and a .357 snubby and a 9mm subcompact CCW gun. When we shorten the .357 revolver's barrel we reach a point where its ballistics no longer offer any decisive advantage in power over the 9mm. And when we reach that point, and we are no longer launching a projectile that will destroy significantly more tissue, shot for shot, than 9mm with good modern hollowpoint ammo, we might as well put the five- or six-shot snubby away and get the 10+1 (or more) 9mm out, which will usually be a lot thinner anyway. This point varies from firearm to firearm, and from type of ammo to type of ammo. I think that usually, though, when we are talking about the .357 and the full-power 125gr JHP ammo that made its reputation as a "man-stopper," that is right around 3" of barrel, give or take. Some Ruger Speed Sixes in .357 with a 2 3/4" barrel also still get 125gr hollowpoints with full-power ammo up well past 1300 ft/sec, which is not really realistic in 9mm outside the world of full-size competition guns and spooky 60K+ PSI "9mm Major" handloads. That's my story and I'm sticking to it, I mean, that's my opinion on the matter.

Absolute fuddlore, .357, even out of a short barrel, is substantially more powerful than .38 (all else being equal). Whether or not shooting full power .357 out of an ultralight snubbie is a good idea is a different question. The gap does widen with longer barrels.

If its primarily because you like them then yes, revolvers can make for fantastic trainers and the one you picked is a fairly nice one. If you're looking to use it as a carry or otherwise defensive tool, then I'd really suggest going with something more boring. Everyone gets 15 shot polymer 9mms for a reason, and while there can be some benefits to revolvers in civilian self/home defense, a full size steel frame really doesn't cater to them all that well.

They're solid for the pricepoint, I have a crossfire on my .22 and it has infinitely better glass and build quality than whatever department store Barska came on it.

Well, there is also a category of .357 ammo specifically for snubbies, which has been stepped on by the manufacturers. You get 125gr hollowpoints at 1100-1200 ft/sec, which is pretty comparable to a warm 9mm +P. There's the Remington "Golden Saber," the "PDX1" from Winchester, and so on. Nothing in this category offers any compelling reason to choose it over 9mm. Also Speer sells a carry load using their 135gr "Gold Dot" hollowpoint loaded in .357 brass to do maybe 1000-ish out of a 2" snubby. Essentially it is a .38 +P load, but loaded in shiny nickel-plated cartridge cases that bear the confidence-inspiring "357" headstamp. None of these is terrible in ballistic gelatin but it is not really fair to compare any of them to what we think of as real .357 ammo.
