Why did China give up on improving tanks? There are 0 new tanks since the 99A. What is the reason? I need a new tank in War Thunder!
>>62785985>There are 0 new tanks since the 99A. What is the reason?Well, you just saw it.
>>62786020Looks like a randomly made DIY model
>>62785985Now that russia is vassalized there is no need tanks to fight extinct russian tank force on the plains.
>>62786069
Introducing the chinkmata.
>>62786198I really like the look of it.
>>62785985because they need to build up navy and airforce for their strategic offence/defence goalswhat would they need better tanks for?
>>62786020That's a light "tank". Probably a lighter Type 15, something similar to the Sprut-SD.
>>62785985>Why did China give up on improving tanks? There are 0 new tanks since the 99A. What is the reason? I need a new tank in War Thunder! They've literally unveiled like 3 new tank designs since the Type99A.
>>62786266Same. I wouldn't fully trust the quality of Chinese tanks of soviet doctrine origin but they seem a lot better lately. The late model Type 99 supposedly have cloned German engines and transmissions so they don't have the power to weight and poor reverse speed issues that most Russian tanks do. It's largely why their rear decks are so tall and look more western. The top part especially looks like an MTU rear section that you can also see on the Leopard and K1. I personally think they look cool too. The VT4 and that heavy IFV derivative also supposedly have clones of the British CV12 engine.
tanks are obsolete
>>62787104>The late model Type 99 supposedly have cloned German engines and transmissionsYeah, no.
>>62787122The Huabei 150HB engine family used in the Type 99 is a derivative of the MTU-870 family. The Germans licensed a lot of heavy industrial tech to the Chinese back when there were warmer relations. The US did too at one point.
Supposedly there is the "99A2", but i don't know what improved compared to the standard 99A.But China has the ZTQ-15, which recently entered into service and i think it's also their first "clean sheet" design, doesn't seem like they copied from anyone.
>>62787211Maybe the looks but the performance isn't the same.
>>62787237It's literally just the same engine but built in China. It makes 1500hp just like the German version. In the 90s there was no block on Germany exporting this tech. That said, I wouldn't trust the build quality to be the same as the German version.
>>62787228Here's a "Combat Approved" documentary with Chinese Elon. No subs though.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GP9UFiMA06U
>>62787305>Yi-Long Ma
>>62785985they got a powerful enough tank army to muscle every single neighbour so they switched all the research slots to navy and airforce
>>62787279>It's literally just the same engineNope.>It makes 1500hp just like the German versionOnly in the catalogue.>That said, I wouldn't trust the build quality to be the same as the German version. It's not just the build quality that's in question.
>>62787364>>It's literally just the same engine>Nope.>>It makes 1500hp just like the German version>Only in the catalogue. This is literally cope. Germans licensed out plenty of engine designs to the Chinese over the last 20 years. A lot of their trucks also just use licensed Mercedes-Benz engines as well.
>>62787305Why does it look more clunky than 30-year-old Type 90?
>>62787305>>62787340>>62787378I found the whole 30min doc, still no subs sadly.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_EnfdYvlUo
>>62787382I'm curious if they basic design of that turret is a clone of the John Cockerill 105mm turret like on this thing. Seems to have a very similar basic shape but with more cheek armor.
>>62787377>This is literally cope. No, it isn't>Germans licensed out plenty of engine designs to the Chinese over the last 20 years.150HB isn't licensed though. It's a clean sheet design.>A lot of their trucks also just use licensed Mercedes-Benz engines as well. You know why that's the case.
>>62787400Stop talking out of your ass. It's just a cloned MTU engine.
>>62787391Nah, the dimensions and crew/optics positions are a bit different from the Cockerill. But 105mm + Bustle Autoloader is a very basic bu reliable configuration, if they went with a carrousell config it wouldn't been able what it was actually designed to do. (Fight pajeets in Himalaya)
>>62787413>Stop talking out of your ass. It's just a cloned MTU engine.Oh yeah? Got any proof to back it up?
>>62787419>But 105mm + Bustle Autoloader is a very basic bu reliable configuration,I'm pretty interested in the version the Turks are developing. It was originally designed as a safer turret replacement for T72 operators but they've since modified it with a 105mm gun to replace the turrets on their M60 fleet. Crew is mostly below the basket ring and the ammo is stored in bustle rack with an armored bulkhead and blowout panels. Claims to offer superior protection than the T90 turret and comes with ERA blocks standard. A 120mm armed version would be a great offering for people who have old Soviet stock stuff and want to upgrade to western standards.
>>62786082Unironically this. That's why all of their latest tanks are light tanks.
Supposedly there's going to be an ifv with a 125mm cannon and bustle autoloader at zhuhai this year. Wonder if that means they're working on a new mbt with a bustle autoloader.
>>62787734VT5 already has a 105mm with an autoloader. I suspect this form factor will just be scaled up to the 125mm gun for the next Type99 upgrade.
>>62787751Yeah, will maybe also see a new single piece 125mm apfsds round too.
>>62787734>>62787751Most likely export stuff.NORINCO always shit out those C&C-tier contraptions in hopes that some Arab Sheikh or African Warlord buys them. That said, i'm excited for this years Zhuhai, i wanna see that fuckhuge cargo drone they showcased.
>>62787456>T-72 with bustle autoloaderSo basically the Black Eagle?
>>62787838The BE, Burlak and Armata have a second autoloader. They never replaced the carousel.
>>62787908...why?
>>62787908Edit: ignore the armata mention, it only has a carousel iirc.
>>62787908>gee, Boris, why does your babushka let you have TWO autoloaders
>>62787211Trators like this are going to get a lot of boys killedT.albertkahnhater
>>62787456Wonder if there is a market for the old turrets. Line em up on the Ukrainian boarder.
>>62789198Resell them to Russia but booby trap them.
>>62787916Uneducated guess, but two-piece ammo might be a nightmare for bustle autoloaders.
>>62785985Hum..i think tank is useless now?
>>62789292Can tank do this? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>62785985They have all sorts of new stuff for their tanks, AP, same AI shit in the new Jap tanks, laser detector/blinder, etc.IDK if it works but they have been doing stuff with them. They haven't been doing as much lately because the fleet and retarded amount of missiles takes up the money, and they have been building a lot of nukes which are very expensive.
>>62786088Electromagnetic Reactive Armor yay
No needs I guess. Russian threats are gone. The armours of surrounding countries (nork, taiwan, vietnam india…) currently have no means of making modernised version of 99 and 96 obsolete.
>>62785985airpower and trying to bring their navy up so they can possibly compete with the u.s is a more important goal for them right now. the quality of tanks isnt a high deciding factor on the modern battlefield.
>>62789299you guys develop that to try and defeat the flying Gavin?
New Zhuhai stuff.China's older tanks are getting APS retrofitted.
The new 125mm assault gun looks good.
>>62787228>>62787305>>62787382Congratulations, Chang. You just took more than half a century to finally invent a bustled autoloader.
>>62790929is very epik futuristikk but i like the one with a bustle autolaoded 125mm more
>>62787279>literally just the same engine.Apparently not. Hard to find sources for this that aren't just blogs or forum posts, but splitting the difference between the hearsay would mean that 150HB seems to be a chink amalgam of Brit and Germ design, mostly German, not a straight up copy. The bore diameter specs that I could find (150 vs 160) seem to attest to this, but fuck if I know.https://www.bilibili.com/read/cv12438702/https://m.blog.naver.com/PostView.naver?blogId=notenter9&logNo=222147330728&proxyReferer=https:%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F&trackingCode=external
>>62791119>https://www.bilibili.com/read/cv12438702/Interesting to see how Chinese stuff has long has a Soviet design base but they try to implement as much western stuff as possible. I really wonder why the didn't just try a cleansheet design based on western doctrine sooner. Were Soviet designs just cheaper to make?A cross between the CV12 and MTU 870 line makes some sense. Externally the HB150 looks like an MTU powerpack but.
>>62791217>Externally the HB150 looks like an MTU powerpack butThey look nothing alike. Quit coping.
>>62791217>I really wonder why the didn't just try a cleansheet design based on western doctrine sooner. They did, that was literally what they were doing with America in the Late 1980s. We're just seeing it happen now in greater intensity as they now have trained engineers n staff to make it possible.
>>62791250Yes they do
>>62791440>>62791217They look almost the same except for the exhaust routing. Type 99 has side exhaust while the Leopard 2 has rear exhaust. No idea why this one anon is sperging out over this. Germans selling engine tech to China is old news. It's not even controversial, they're multi-use powerpacks.
>>62791440No, they aren't. They have completely different geometry. >>62791447>They look almost the same except for the exhaust routing.Tbh, I don't know why you're keep using this as a proof, since it's clearly a counterargument against your belief. >No idea why this one anon is sperging out over this. Germans selling engine tech to China is old news. It's not even controversial, they're multi-use powerpacks.Germany merely allowed China to produce civilian engines like MB396 only. They never gave out blueprints nor a sample of MB873. I have no idea why you keep raging about this but your argument is literally baseless. Not even Chinese sources claim 150HB is a copy of MB873, the closest one you can relate to would be Perkins CV12 which was 1200hp.
>>62785985>I need a new tank in War Thunder! Why haven't they put in turtle tanks yet?
>>62785985Why bother? tanks have hit a wall, it's about projectiles and tech now.
>>62790928VT-4's with APS has been around for a while now. There was a potato quality picture one years ago.
>>62791567With GL-5 maybe, that old APS that could only intercept certain aspects. This new one has actual turrets that can cover most directions, even top attack. The 99A was also spotted with that new one.
>>62791652GL-5 picrel, it is fixed to cover the 120 degree aspects of each corner.
>>62791652I thought the gl6 having vt4a1 was introduced last zhuhai? It's already in war thunder after all
The unfortunate truth demonstrated in Ukraine is that tanks are mostly obsolete and only really useful when they're given turtle armor and made into a SPG or mobile pillbox Otherwise they're just giant targets for drones
>>62791680Fuck you are right. The news is actually that we saw a 99A with the GL-6 before Zhuhai.
What's with everyone slapping cope cages on now?
>>62791778This and the PLA now training FPV units shows that they are not as ignorant as they used to be and actually watch the shit in Ukraine unfolding.
>>62791787That said, there is absolutely zero reason to put an RWS ontop an artillery vehicle. At least change the HMG into an automatic shotgun or something for drone defense.
>>62791796This thing just looks like a meme in the first place, why put a 155mm arty on a fucking wheeled ifv lol? It'd probably destroy its suspension after a single shot
>>62791801feels like it would tip over, but it seems to have some hydraulic legs beneath.I'd say China rather invest in an auto-mortar system that can drive and shoot at the same time. Or better yet, a 155mm artillery that can do this.
>>62791664Kinda reminds me of Drozd.
>>62791855It's a very basic bitch APS like that, yes.
>>62791862The new one is basically a small turrets, either as standalone with their own optical sensor and 360 radar, or two smaller turrets with only the launchers and external radars/EO
>>62791700>The unfortunate truth demonstrated in Ukraine is that tanks are mostly obsolete and only really useful when they're given turtle armor and made into a SPG or mobile pillboxYes am of agreeance, we should of be the petition to stopping wect or kitai from production more tank.

So they have the largerst army in the world while still being a volunteer. Some parts of society are incredibly nationalistic so you could expect them to field 40 million men easily in just a year if a conflict is dragged on. >>62794120Forgot to add, 40 million seems exaggerated. I called her out on it and she told me it was on paper and the real number would most likely be around 10 or 20 mil.
>>62794120You mean producing enough ships for these objectives? Yea, absolutely. Now can they actually fulfill said objectives? Probably not.
>>62794120>So they have the largerst army in the world while still being a volunteer. Reminder that even though China is a conscription country, there has never been a draft since the formation of the PRC, they always have enough volunteers.

>>62794070J16 use WS-10. WS-15 is for the J-20>>62785985Short Answer? PLA don't consider tank that important. The PLAGF is centred around mobile artillery and rocket artillery. Stuff like tanks and infantry are there to support the artillery. China developed a lot of new mobile artillery recently (PCL-171, PCL-161, PCL-181, PCL-191), tanks are very low on the priority list. We do have a next gen tank on the pipeline tho, it would be a 2 men tank with a remote turret and control several drones.FYI: I'm Chinese, got some close family member in the military industry and in the PLA. Even have a close relative who worked on the DF-21's guidance system.>>62794120>PLANAF wise, do you see them having enough ships/fleets for their objectives in the first island chain? Not the other anon, but both the 1st and 2nd island chain are already broken, since within 4000km USN is fighting the PLAN, PLAAF and PLARF at once. Also, except for carriers most Chinese ships are newer and more modern than their US equivalent, so even in term of ship the US is at a disadvantage.
>>62794703Imagine something like that but with javelin missile launchers instead of recoilless rifles and with modern armor, optics and navigation systems It'd be a damn monster. >>62793381Something like the Terminator would also be sick to have in the US military

>>62785985>Shit steel, crap quality production, cultural urge to scam, being commies, education system crush any initiatives and creativity, being chineseThese are the reason why china will never have a great tank.
>>62794120>Being in the army is a somewhat prestigious job, the term she used was above blue colar but under some bullshit job like IT consultant. From what I've heard from an American teacher who spent years there, parents really don't aspire to send their kids into the military. At least no educated middle-class parent. His impression is that the U.S. is actually much more militaristic than China is, like in the society and in terms of prestige (there are a lot of American politicians who tout their military service), but China is a very different society. Not that you ignore China or think what they do is all about peace or whatever, but they are very pragmatic and don't like taking risks. It's something in the culture that is quite longstanding.
