Is an expansion of the rocket artillery force planned? Is it intended to supplement the M270 force, or replace it? Is this cheaper than upgrading the 500+ M270s that were mothballed? Is it a fully palletized system that can be loaded onto any PLS HEMTT and operated from a laptop or over WIN-T, thus almost negating the need for M270s altogether? I would like to know more.

But compare a PLS crane to the system used to load and unload 6-packs on M270/HIMARS, which has a boom that extends forwards from just above each pod and can pull pods in and out of the launcher. It's completely different. That's why I asked how the reload process is supposed to work.I recommend watching a video on the current reload process with the crane built into the launcher. I'd really like to see its equivalent on this new system.

There's a crane there, I assume it works basically the same way or why else would it be there?

It might have trouble pulling the rocket pods out of the launcher--at least, while the launcher is still on the truck. That's why I'm asking.

I wonder if this is essentially palletised (CONEXed) MLRS so as to fit into existing logistics even better than HIMARS does. If so, maybe the PLS crane just pics up the whole thing and dumps it and replaces it with another. The electronics could be in a separate unit with just the launch boxes in a disposable unit.The rotation and elevating hydraulics might be part of the base and not replaced, or they might be considered disposable in cost, compared to the rockets themselves. Why bother keeping $100k of hydraulics when you're firing off 4x2x$3m = $24m of rockets?
