I finally took out my six inch Smith and Wesson .44 magnum revolver to the range and shot roughly 56-60 rounds of 240 grains of Winchester soft points and Magtech FMJs
The FMJs were easily the most brutal fucking shit I have ever shot ever since I have shot 500 magnum out of a 4 inch barrel revolver.
I have been humbled hard.
And yes I did shoot one handed at some points

.357 is fucking nothing compared to .44
Yes it is a little tough to shoot and for most people it is the most powerful round they can handle
For me I think it's significantly softer than .44 but still more hot than the likes of 9mm and .45 ACP

"There were two primary revolvers used in Raiders of the Lost Ark. One was a Smith & Wesson 1917, chambered for .45 ACP from Stembridge rentals in Hollywood. The second was a Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector Model 2 (HE2) from Bapty & Co. in London. It is widely accepted that the Bapty was used in all the revolver shooting scenes."
So you want a pic related. However the Raiders gun was modified with a shorter barrel as no Hand Ejectors came with a 4 inch barrel, they were 6 inch like the pic.

Browning 1910: browning pistols were literally the most common gun in the continent and 32 was the most available round. So civilians, crooks and especially undercover agents from America carried small 32s https://www.hensleygibbs.com/edharris/articles/32ACP.htm

It’s actually semi practical since it’s very compact, and has a modular design letting you swap from 380 to 32 acp with a barrel switch. Which actually would be what I’d carry if I were a tomb raider a century ago.

Did they make a .32 ACP in a black powder loading? That thing would get all jammed up after a few mags, I imagine.
While reading up on this, I found out that
>The .32 ACP has been chambered in more handguns than any other cartridge. Between 1899 and 1909,Fabrique Nationaleproduced 500,000 guns chambered for .32 ACP.

Ok guys, second try. I received no answer Yesterday

"I think I made up my mind about what Striker handgun I want.

I have two finalist: the beretta Apx and the Springfield XD.

I would opt for the XD (I like that extra safety and the aesthetic), however I don't know much about the gun itself.

I must also point out that I don't want a full size, but a compact, and I haven't seen a mod.3 compact for the XD, but maybe it is just me.

I would like to ask you: which One would you Pic between these two models? Which one Is more reliable and which One has the best trigger and It Is more enjoyable tò shoot?"

P.S.

I don't want a Glock or a Sig. I am deciding between these two. Tell me your opinione
>>
>>62879278
IDK, I think the Phoenix arms is a pretty good first gun.

It is extremely affordable, typically going for $100 or less.

The .22LR version shoots a very affordable and low recoiling round, which is ideal for new shooters.

There are a number of small pistol universal holsters available that will work for them, which are also ideal for someone just getting started.

There is no reason to get son financially involved in something that might not be right for you.

Save yourself a lot or money and start with the Phenoix and see how that works for you first.

>>
>>62878188
Not above ~2200 fps so its still definitely in the realm of pistol calibers which only cause damage through the permanent wound cavity, which is to say its only as good as the path the bullet itself carves and won't cause extra damage like a much higher velocity rifle round.

Essentially about the same 'stopping power' on a human sized target as .40/.45/10mm but theoretically it would get through barriers a lot better. No real compelling reason to pick it unless you need more penetration on something bigger/tougher than people.
>>
>>62879543
The CZ has better ergos and may be slightly more accurate but the Beretta is better in every single way. The decocker is better executed while CZ makes you choose between decocker or safety and the CZ decocker adds complexity to the trigger pull. The Beretta has a single wear part that should last literally tens of thousands of rounds anyway while the CZ has several wear parts that can break after a year of regular use. The Beretta has an essentially idiot-proof design. It also has a better aftermarket for less money because the Langdon bar and slide cut will run you less than getting a cut CZ slide and the CGW shit.
I also think the CZ 75 looks kind of retarded with its giant safety and stupid crimped front end like an elephant stepped on it. And yeah the Browning Hi-Power is overrated and stupid looking too. The CZ is also a commie poorfag gun while the Beretta is the iconic weapon of action heroes.

the wilson grips are only like 1/8" wider or something. It has no effect on printing. They mog the fuck out of the stock sig grips and make the gun actually shootable. I hate it when people say buy X and immediately replace Y part, but they are a direct upgrade over stock with no downsides.
>>
>>62879835

I have a general idea of what kind of pistol I want to get, but I also first want to try out holding a couple different models and really get a feel for them, in order to find what actually fits in my hand best.
Would a gunshow or a gun store be the place to go do that?
I want more of a metal wonder-nine style, which I'm worried that most gunstores wouldn't have very much to look at, and would be all polymer stuff only.
I also don't know how gunshows would be too, with old grumpy boomers trying to just get a shitty sale
I'm still relatively new to handguns so I will most likely also have a friend with me who does know them much better than I do

What are some all steel semi auto pistols that are extremely reliable? This is just a gun to keep at home and take out to shoot occasionally. I was looking at the Sig P220 10mm Legion but I saw where some people had broken takedown levers and a couple decocker levers. That seems rare though. I also dont really like the cerakote but as long as the gun itself is solid I could care less.

Obviously polymer framed guns are ultra reliable but I really like a gun that doesn't feel like a burger king toy to me. I carry a ruger LCP and even though its plastic I don't care because it is just a tool.

I love revolvers but the couple of them I have bought there is something about it I end up not liking. The ruger sp101 is nice but the cylinder gap on a brand new one is .013" and really spits a lot out. I also got a Super Blackhawk 44 and the base pin always wanted to come out while shooting it and the cylinder would bind up. I saw where some stores online sell a kind that would lock into the barrel but you had to drill a hole into the surface the barrel for it to work. I sold the Blackhawk.

The reason I am asking is because there are so many semi auto handguns I dont know where to start. I would prefer 10mm but 45 acp would be fine too. Thank you.

>>62880087

Funny thing but 32 used to be loaded pretty decently, even American
> WW2 WRA (Winchester Repeating Arms) 73-grain FMJ: 1001 fps
This is what our army was feeding their 1903s back in the day. Basically it’s fiocchi and close to 32 magnum performance. Which basically proves fiocchi is the optimal load for Browning pistols(fiocchi is slightly wider so feeds better in American bores).
Nobody cared about soft loading back then. It’s only now they load them really weak in fear they blow up a pistol when they never did.
Most of the guns running them weren’t even premium like colt but knockoffs like the ruby so literally any steel frame can take fiocchi energies.

I still love my 1903 and just wrote a tribute to it for keeping me safe during grad school. Even if outdated safeties and incompatibility with high tech ammo hurt it.

Thank you for the response. No I didn't change it to stronger spring, that's a smart idea though. I didn't think about that honestly.

I have looked at the Redhawk revolvers and I like what I have saw, but since my SP101 has such a large cylinder gap I wonder if the Redhawks are the same. I also saw where Ruger is making the barrels as a "sleeve and shroud" so its two pieces. That looks like it would be easier for them to get the cylinder gap perfect that way. Do you think that kind of barrel would be sturdy? I cant find any instances of them failing but I did see some earlier 2000's Smith and Wessons that the shroud had came off.

Thanks!

Hard to tell from that pic. M9 has a straight dust cover and the beaver tail is slightly different. However, the 92fs had that long ass roll mark on the slide stating that it's a 92, the M9 has some assembly number. You can see it says MOD 92BT, which is most like the 92fs. The barrel is slightly too short to be either. They removed the checkering on the frame too so it's basically some close enough mystery meat. But it's arguably based off of the 92fs the most while also looking a bit like an M9.

So I'm thinking of getting my first optic and having my 1911 slide cnc milled to mount one. Problem is, I'm new to pistol ownership, and it's hard to decide between mounting standards, my budget, and direct mounting vs adapter plate systems. My budget for an optic is a around 300 with a hard ceiling of 400 (not including cnc costs), so pic related and other super high end stuff is out of the question, but I've seen a lot of budget friendly options. Thing is, there's a metric fuckload of them: holosun, sig, swampfox, Brownell, etc.

Tldr, what I'm asking is
>what "footprint" is best for milling into a 1911 (Mine has no firing pin stop, so no worries)
>what budget friendly option is best for that mounting standard.

All 92s had a straight dust cover until the mid 2000s, that's not an M9 only thing. It was an incremental update they rolled out over time, like the polycoated small parts.

holosun 407k. Its basically the EPS, but not enclosed. It came out before the eps. I think I got mine for like 240. 6moa dot, which I think is kind of oversized, but very reliable if basic rds. Its the holosun k footprint. Ive got like 6-7k rnds through mine and carried it for a little over a year. No issues, but make sure as fuck its mounted correctly and the battery tray screw is down tight. If you are super green you can probably have whoever is cutting the slide mount the dot as well. Holosun customer service is pretty good. Not that you will likely need it. There is a snowballs chance in hell that you can find a used rmr for 400 if you want to roll the dice on random ebay finds. Most would tell you to go with an eps, but I think its out of your price range.

Overall though don't get sucked into thinking one dot is best/better than another. Most of them are pretty reliable nowadays and they all do the same shit. Also multi reticle is gay dont worry about it.

My two redhawks are from 1985, one's gap is about .008", the other is .004".
.013" is out of spec, needs a longer ratchet, but that's an easy thing to say, but a tougher thing to find one that still times right.
The sleeve and shroud Redhawks, from what I've seen still have all over the place tolerances, tough to remove them, but the barrels themselves are still as thick as the old ones from the forcing cone to the end.

What revolvers are the best in your opinion? I thought about the new Python but my friend has one and he doesnt like how the sideplate screws loosen up so easily on it and you have to remove the grips (which are very tight and have two dowel pins in them) to check the rear one. He said his Smith and Wesson 686 hasnt done this. Also I saw online where some of the current guns like the King Cobra have had gaps between the barrel shoulder and frame that look thick enough to stick a business card in. I saw an email online from Colt about it and they said that theres nothing they can do because something about a crush washer they use that stands a good chance of ruining the frames threads if removed. I have never heard of anyone in real life having to get a revolver barrel replaced but just knowing it cannot be altered without wasting the gun kinda sucks in my opinion.

Smiths are nice but I personally cant stand the internal lock and I have heard their tolerances can be sloppy nowdays, I dont know how true it is though. I do know of one person in real life who ordered a scandium 44 magnum that was a Smith and the front sight just broke off without even shooting it.

I believe there is a stripped down version of the Holosun 407C that is around 200 dollars. PSA sells it. It has no multi reticle function or solar panels, it’s the perfect budget dot as it fits on the RMR footprint and then you can replace it with something better down the line.

Direct mount 1911 optics would only be the Delta Point Pro footprint, RMSC/407K footprint, ACRO or 509T optics. I wouldn’t recommend going direct mount for your first optic, you’re married to a footprint.

For plate systems
>Trijicon’s original RMR adapter plate system, this is made only for the RMR and government length guns, the plate costs around 200 since it’s the plate + cowitness front sight. Don’t do this one. Kimber I believe does an offshoot of it, also don’t do this one
>Staccato DPO style, this is modern, decent aftermarket support for other plates, has recoil pegs for the plate, lots of support. You’ll have to find an gunsmith to cut this one, I use DSC gunworks who has some packages where you get the cut + a plate + cowittness front sight installed for 450 dollars, he says 3 week turnaround.
>CHPWS Cross, copy of the staccato style but with some improvements, lower than the staccato DPO style by about .1 inch. I have no experience with it but it seems like a decent option but you’re stuck in the CHPWS ecosystem. They’ll do the cut, refinish your slide for not that much,
>Nighthawk IOS style, I like this style but it’s 450 dollars for the cut and you don’t even get an optic plate yet. Limited plate options and a long lead time
>Wilson Combat, 150 dollars + the mandatory refinishing of the slide (150 more or so), an offshoot of the RMR plate but some sort of leveling system and a dovetailed rear on the plate. I have one gun with this and it keeps coming loose every 1k rounds, people tell me it may be user error and that might be true
>Atlas plate, no idea but it’s atlas so it’s expensive
>cabot plate, expensive
>>
>>62880087
For 45 you have dozens of options. For 10mm you can overpay for Indian made sig, get a 19/2011 from 300 to 3000 dollars, or get a tanfoglio(which also comes in 45). It likes to be kept lubed but I've never had a failure shooting my tanfo. It's not idiot proof though as some fat retard at the range managed to jam it like 6 times. (Maybe limpwristing or probably choking up too high with that retarded two hand grip he used cuz he got scared of the 10mm). For 1200+ tanfo is a tough sell, if I didn't carry it I don't know if I'd buy it just as a range fun. But I second that other anon on the smiths. There's something so sexy about old s&w autoloaders and in 45 you can find plenty under 600 be it in compact or full size.

>I wouldn’t recommend going direct mount for your first optic, you’re married to a footprint.
Yeah, but consider the fact that a handgun optic is just a hunk of metal in which is enclosed (or not!) an emitter that paints a colored dot across your vision. So getting "married to a footprint" is not necessarily a huge idea. Just don't be a CONSOOOOOOOMer and realize that the difference between a Holosun and a Trijicon is basically just the price tag.
>>
>>62880660
>Smiths are nice but I personally cant stand the internal lock and I have heard their tolerances can be sloppy nowdays
NTA, but I own a bunch of revolvers and there's no question that current S&Ws with the Hillary Hole do not have the same standard of fit and finish as the old guns did. That said, the ones I own and have owned have been trouble-free, but if you put the two guns side by side and compare them there's no question their quality has slipped.

>nothing they can do because something about a crush washer they use
That is the result of them changing the design to simply assembly at the factory. Old Pythons (etc.) that use the standard barrels (not sleeved) never had that issue.
>>
>>62880660
>I have heard their tolerances can be sloppy nowdays

Right now for new production probably Burris. There’s a weaver on Natchez, but it’s a Chinese production under the weaver brand name, so no clue if it’s really decent…. Leopold doesn’t have a pistol scope in production currently.. There’s a few other lesser brands, no clue how they hold up. I’d check on eBay if you get the chance. I got this for 140$ including shipping.. their a weird area where the older ones are generally pretty well made, and it’s a niche enough market that seems to be less popular with contenders and encores being out of production and red dots being in some cases more popular than a 2x magnification scope.

Usually in a horror game or some kind of adventure where the character "finds" a gun somewhere its always either a super fancy iconic gun you keep forever OR its a crock of shit because its your starter weapon you dont keep or give a fuck about or is bad on purpose for balance issues.

the fact its an old clapped out beretta centurion is shocking to me since its the first gun i "found" at a pawn shop once i started the hobby of gunsooming.
After buying my first gun and i wasn't a noguns anymore, I was just hanging out at a pawn shop and they had this fuckin trashed out beretta just sitting there begging for me to buy it. It might as well have been in a hobo's shopping cart in silent hill.

as others have said, m1917 if you want to be screen accurate, and chop the barrel to 4" and braze on a banded front sight
>>
>>62880660
I get what they're saying about the crush washer, that sucks. Not sure if the new Redhawks have that, but to remove the two piece barrels would be a pain in the ass anyway requiring a custom fixture/tool/jig.
The new pythons, based on my experience with the post-2021 productions, has been positive.
They are machined tightly, 17-4 stainless, will hold up. I recommend you hold the example in your hand if you can.
Best revolver is a tough one to quantify, because I handload stupid things at times and that means I gravitate towards the Redhawks for being relatively cheap and retardedly strong. The best revolvers are the ones that do what you need them to.
>>
>>62880898
You have to really love you some 25 acp..
>>
>>62881049
The full-size grip lets you grip the gun better so you can shoot good, while the compact slide is long enough to attach a normal weaponlight and get the expected performance out of most duty loads. It's everything you need (and then some) and nothing you don't.
Additionally, many shooters prefer the snappier recoil impulse rearward weight balance associated with a shorter slide for reasons, and now that pistol optics are A Thing the sight radius offered by a longer slide is less important.
>>
>>62881037
It's not terrible, but you can definitely think less about "driving the gun" and tighten up some of that low-left spread.

Is it possible to buy a USP Expert then buy a Match compensator and stick it on the end? Or is the actual USP Match actually different?

>>62881169
Yes. Match Weights sells match weights for Experts and Elites, the USP Match was a shitty stop gap measure since HK wanted a long barreled sports pistol but didn’t have time to design a longer slide like the Elite or Expert, so they stuck a long barrel in a USP and then put a steel shroud on the rail to hide the dumb looking barrel.
>>
File: hk-usp-match.jpg (311 KB, 2560x1706)

>>62881169
The actual USP Match also has an extended 6" barrel that goes inside the weight. You can buy that barrel too, sometimes, when they show up. It doesn't have a compensator. If you want a compensator, you can buy an aftermarket 6" barrel that has ports or slots cut into it, which will work as a comp inside the weight.

The Expert has a longer slide and barrel, it won't look like a Match and won't have the external barrel

Firing pin missing might be a good thing, no need to have one in a 100+ year old gun. You would take them out for display guns. Tisas Service Special or Stakeout and also the Tanker series are the same with GI everything but with taller bolder sights

Looks like you are anticipating the shot, but it's good enough to put dicks in the dirt. Watch some videos, tighten your grip and do a buch of dry fire if you want to get better.
Dry fire really helped me with anticipating the shot because I got used to not having the muzzel blast.

I would recommend looking for used 1911s on gunbroker, sometimes higher end 1911s (2-3k) go for around 1200-1500. It’s a bad addiction of mine.

They usually won’t be the GI style, we moved away from that for a reason. This isn’t what you’re looking for but it’s an interesting gun.
Dan Wesson Specialist 9mm POLICE USED gun. You can see the holster wear.

Honestly there isn’t much reason in your case not to buy the Springfield since it’ll have a blued finish IIRC, while the Tisa will have a Cerakote finish

Dang, that is pretty cool and I bet 9mm feeds better that most other calibers, but honestly I'm going for feels over reals here. I like the lowered ejection port and squared off big sites, but I want a .45, preferably blued, and just kinda old school. I have plenty of modern DA/SA/striker polymer and aluminum frame guns. I just want an old school gun style gun for that Saving Private Ryan/20s gangster LARP. I guess it's pretty gay or whatever, but I'm at a point in this hobby where >I think it's neat is reason enough.
>>
>>62882255
He makes a version that is lower but doesn’t require shaving of the firing pin block plunger, low enough where if you had the Beretta suppressor height sights they would cowitness with the EPS/407K, it’s also slightly cheaper

Eleven 71 design makes a 92 RDO plate but I don’t know how low it is, but it’s also out of titanium and not aluminum like Dlahh

If you think you can't conceal a compact (you can) get a M&P bodyguard 2.0. If you want a gun that is actually pleasant to shoot and easy to conceal get a fn 509c, s&w m&p compact, APX compact, or any number of other great sub $450 options. Reloading in a self defense situation is a fantasy, imagine doing that under pressure with a pittbull latched on your leg and one of the methheads still up and crazy. That's pretty much what I'm doing at the moment. I have a Bachelor's in an unrelated field and went back to school for archaeology for fun (though I'm contemplating a career switch).

I'm currently doing a field school with a local community college. Doing it with a CC means less of the usual academia bullshit and it's been nice to go /out/ and get my hands dirty. I'd recommend checking out if any CCs in your area have an archaeology program. Plenty of entry-level work/volunteer opportunities as well. You do need to go to grad school if you want to be a "real" archaeologist to get papers published or be a professor or whatever.

This is the one picture I have of the guide.

Barsto Semi Fit means you just need to fit 2 dimensions, the width of the barrel rails and then remove material from the breechface side until it fits. It’s actually pretty easy, just stick the barrel in a vice and use files. It’s best to measure the thickness of those areas on the new barrel and the OEM barrel so you know what direction to go. To achieve the best fit you should frequently test fit the barrel in the frame and slide. Be gentle and do not force it as I’ve gotten a little too excited and put the barrel in too soon and have had to hammer it out. 2 barrels of the semi fit only needed 5 minutes or less of fitting and they’re tight. Others took from 30 mins to 2 hours. It’s fun to do IMO

i absolutely love the baby browning, it's still in the same era of gun design but it came out a bit later in 1932. it doesn't have lethality or range or any of the things that everyone obsesses over in modern guns but these old guns were designed to just be functional weapons that were easy to carry and they have a lot of charm.

Speaking from experience "feel in hand" is vastly overrated. The pistol that feels the best in your hand is not necessarily the one that you will shoot best. The pistol that feels best in my hand is a Walther PPQ with medium backstrap but it's also a Walther so it's snappy as fuck. Yes you should find something that is comfortable but it's not the be all end all. Go to a range and see if you can rent guns. Renting is expensive but it's even more expensive to buy a gun and then find out you don't like it. That said, you cannot go wrong with a Beretta 92. Even if it doesn't turn out to be your favorite or EDC, as you get into guns, you will want more guns, and a Beretta 92 is something you'll probably end up buying anyways. It has a large aftermarket and unlike the other guns in your picture, has kept up with modern advancements quite well.

My field school is partnered with a local non-profit that manages a historical site they let us dig on. It's a win-win since us as students get experience doing real digs and they get free labor that help them understand the history of the place better. We've mostly found stuff from the past 100-200 years, but there's evidence of pre-contact Native American artifacts in nearby areas. Obviously this going to vary depending on where you live. But overall I'm having a good time and am enjoying the experience.

I test pit bulls out by seeing if they bite me. I always dodge the bite, because the dog is dumb as a brick, and because most pitts bite so I know it's coming. I hate these dogs, they always try to suckerbite from the back. They never want to fight a real 1v1

I can stop. Is that brace a good upgrade for my 1978 mini?

You already have everything you need to anhero, what more can you ask for??

Ugly ass gun btw. Dumb, stupid camo pattern makes it the ugliest gun in the thread. Looks like a low level upgrade in Call of Duty.

>>62882942
Wait until you've had the chance to shoot it. Don't throw money away trying to accurize it unless you feel like it isn't performing up to your ability. Even a 4 MOA rifle will print fist sized groups at 100 yards and hit a torso at 300. Do you need more than that? If so, maybe you just need something that's not a Mini 14. It's a perfectly good defensive carbine as is and doesn't really need fucked with. The barrel stabilizer may or may not work, but at the end of the day it's a product for fudds that only value slow fire bullseye shooting.

With every (you), twinktroon grows more emboldened. I just want to thank you for helping me burn this God-forsaken gen to the ground. We couldn't have devolved this hard without you. You are a true Biblical hero, like the 1 good faggot who lived in Sodom before the flood. Whatever though, idgaf if you're gay, that's for Christ to judge. You're an ally to me as long as you help ruin the discussion here. Thank you for your service.

Unfortunate. How much you reckon it'll cost for a gunsmith to file it down or if its even worth it?

The guy that whines about being "deanonymized" if he posts guns is weednigger. Who, coincidentally, defends the tranny to shitpost. He also has no guns.

So he gets raped after putting 6 rounds of .25 acp into a 6’9 260 pound black man or so he doesn’t bleed out when it goes off in his mikes sticky holster?

>I can stop.
I have asked you very politely on multiple occasions to stop posting those types of images and yet here we are...
As far as the accuracy strut for the mini is concerned you should ask in /arg/ or maybe start a mini 14 thread, those ten to get a lot of traction and it's been a few weeks since I've seen one.
To answer your question directly, I agree with this anon
>>62883287
>Wait until you've had the chance to shoot it.
It's probably going to be capable of what you need right out of the box, so to speak.
>Improvement varies with individual rifle. In some cases there is no noticeable improvement in accuracy.
It just tunes barrel harmonics so it will probably just move the group rather than tightening them up.

Yeah, this is a pretty good lesson in punching down. Maybe bullying the maladjusted gay guy into killing himself isn't the victory we think it is.
Maybe the real win is being kind to your fellow man and trying to guide him to truth and enlightenment.
Bringing people up is much more rewarding than pushing them down.
