In all fairness at this point they're also mostly just civilians that opted in for some gubment sign up bonus

Anyone having anything to do with a Fiat gets what they fucking deserve
The only Lada's we had anything to do with were the 1.7's in the late 80's that turned up here and got hit with endless streams of jokes about how every trip was one-way or a miracle of stalin to get further than 50km away from home before something broke. Then they started rusting... Funnily enough I did see one on the road about 2 years ago that some mad fuck had restored and it was running at the time and not a static display
>>
>>62878716
In my country these things were briefly popular in the 90s because they were one of the cheapest 4x4s on the market.
They quickly gained a bad reputation for being primitively engineered, poorly built, unreliable, and very rust prone.
It was a common joke that the factory tool kit was the most important part of the car.
Spare parts were also completely unobtainable, so if something important broke and the part could not be repaired the whole car was essentially just useless scrap. Lots of them got parked and forgotten until they rusted away because of that.
>>
>>62878716
>Lada
In the balkans the 1500 is to us as is the Honda Civic to Americans. In the 2000s tuning them up for tracks and rallies was fairly popular.
>>
>>62878727
They really struggled here because while they were cheap trash, they were also going up against sort of the peak 'cheaper' end of companies and models like Subaru Brumby/Brat, Toyota Hilux, Landcruiser, Nissan Patrol, Suzuki Sierra, Mitsubishi Pajero and all those 4wds were pretty serious shit when it came to reliability, performance and cost.
No one was trading in their FJ40 Landcruiser for a 'new' Niva!

If Lada is good for one feature, it would be reliability.... after you have done the brand new Soviet car things like checking all the electric connections and shieet. You know, importers of commie cars to western countries where those were sold were mostly controlled commie governments, the importing company was also the dealership, they basically did full overhaul on everything they sold. Moment factory new car was delivered to them, they did all the electrics again, re-applied rust protection and repainted the fucking thing if there was anything resembling defect on paint. For commie car dealership, it was perfectly normal to painting robot in 60's. Just because they needed to keep up appearance of them being competent at making simple no frills cars. Soviets didn't make any money from export of cars due to all that work being done by locals with western wages. From what I understand, export models of cars were a desirable thing in Soviet Union, because those were better made domestic market examples. Basically after the fixing the cars, they still had reputation for shit quality in the west. I feel sorry for people that got the domestic market car after decade of wait in Soviet Union.

There is a reason why commie cars basically disappeared from the market when Soviet Union went way of the dodo stopped fixing the cars they export at cost to the state.

Also, there are some benefits if you keep basic design of car the same for 52 years.

>>62878710
>The sedan, being a soviet take on a fucking Fiat, is a whole different story
That was only remotely modern thing they could base their engineering practices on for Niva.

>>62878716
>Anyone having anything to do with a Fiat gets what they fucking deserve
One thing Italian cars had bad reputation from 60's to 80's for was rust protection, genuine Fiat 124 was arguably even worse than Lada when it comes to turning into iron oxide dust.

Yeah, Soviet car users new this thing unknown to West. Called "tighten up". When you buy car first thing you do is take wrench and then tighten up every nut, bolt and screw car has and pin ones that were supposed to be pinned. New car users usually were not so qualified to that so they used help of other car users who operated together in some collective garage.
Unthinkable thing for the spoiled westerners who expect to car out of dealership and just drive it.

It was also VERY common for parts to just be missing on brand new cars. Which meant buyers had to source parts on the black market.
>>
>>62878783
The main thing with Italian car's from the 70's was the rust, so all the nice Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Fiat and others used soviet steel. It was sort of a trade in kind for the Togliatti auto plant in Samara as a down payment for some kind of joint venture.
But the steel was awful and of very low quality with a lack of alloys and then throw in the communist dominated unions in Italy at the time which also didn't exactly help with quality control either. Or that may be a separate issue and more just another problem altogether. Mostly because rusting was really just limited to the Italians and Russians, plenty of complete garbage got made in Germany, the UK and everywhere else that was rusty garbage.

Lada at least could roll out out dealership by itself. But large percentage colour TVs soled ins stores didn't even turn on. People straight up carried them from stores to electronics repair workshops to fix.
While workshops had joke meme (only partially a joke) how do you start electronic repair: first identify all components with Armenian logo, solder them out and replace.

unchanged analysis
80.26% of ISS 'themilitarybalance' estimates of 25609 Russian towed and self propelled artillery and mortars, active and reserve Feb 2022 are destroyed approximately 5,053 remain. Also many remaining Russian guns in depots have had their barrels removed to be used as replacements for worn barrels. Russia's chronic vehicle shortage now has a companion chronic artillery shortage, this will begin to leave compromising levels of reduced artillery in portions of the Russian front lines commencing in ~2 days at the attrition rate of the last 12 months. Russia can only use air power and FAB bombs to try and fill the gap, or drastically shorten its lines to retain the same level of artillery cover. I expect it to try and use air power, the consequence will be increased air combat and looses of Russian air frames and an escalating artillery crisis in the Russian forces. There will be an increased mix of begging threats and other PR stunts by the Kremlin to try and get a ceasefire as they have lost this war. Russia will no longer be able to mount any mechanized offensive operations or offensive operation with artillery support (basically all) by spring and Russia will be effectively defenseless against its neighbors if they advance onto Russian territory.

If anything it feels like Putin immediately decided it must be a bluff and must be called. Then chimp out status engaged realizing they've got like 2 months before they find out how Trump will respond to that. Knowing Trump's personality he was probably pissed when he got word of that first strike and this second massive one involving even more launches probably isn't helping him keep his cool. The more he's pushed the stronger his response tends to be.

That's far less likely than my scenario (which admittedly is mostly a joke). The problem with your assessment of Trump is Putin just spat in his face. The man ran as a joke then became President after Obama shit on him at a dinner thing making him actually take it seriously. Revenge and payback are a big part of his personality and he can hold a hell of a grudge. I will be absolutely blown away if he doesn't do anything about it.

>>62879087
It could legit happen on the simple grounds that all future "aid" under the Trump admin will guaranteed be loans rather than free shit. I don't know if you've ever thought about this but loans with terms and contractual expectation of repayment have a habit of being MUCH bigger than "hey dude, can I borrow some money?" tier gibsmedats. That said I don't think it's literally going to be THAT much per package. Though another bonus of it being a loan is there's a much better chance they won't just be getting mostly Gulf War era milsurp that has been sitting in the desert or warehouses in the middle of nowhere since then. Ukraine is already doing shockingly well with our really old shit. What happens when they start getting more stuff that's actually from this millennium?

It's 100% possible to make the aid profitable to the US and that's a way to do it. The funniest possible outcome would be the home of the Black Sea fleet in Crimea being leased to the US Navy for 100 years. Imagine the seethe.

Anyone who thinks the MIC is going to allow Trump to go full isolationist (and that includes Taiwan) hasn't been paying attention for the past 75 years or so or is on terminal copium overdose. They've been running an absolutely brutal defense in depth campaign rather than trying to run more counter-offensives. Russia is gaining ground but at absolutely horrific costs. The Ukrainians are also set to get at least one more big shipment of American weapons and ammo before Biden is out. There's a very good shot rasputitsa combined with the Ukrainian defense in depth strategy is going to grind the Russian advance to a halt. During rasputitsa only a handful of vehicles can operate off road without constantly getting stuck and most of the MT-LBs, which were legendary for handling the mud, are already destroyed. Everything else has to use the roads, hope the ground freezes, or will get stuck constantly making them easy pickings.

If rasputitsa returns the stalemate of the last few years I hope Ukraine takes advantage to build better more permanent fortifications. In my opinion this is their golden ticket. If mudholes that barely count as trenches are giving the Russians this much trouble well built fortifications will be unbreakable. They'd also make the lives of the average Ukrainian infantryman manning those MUCH better. Being constantly wet and covered in mud cannot be good for morale.

Imagine every single week your KIA numbers are worse than a 20 year long period of war. Every week is nearly the low end for the possible Soviet KIA range for the entire Soviet-Afghan war.

Anon, the fiat derivatives were for the most time the best cars one could reasonably get, not only in the ussr but the whole eastern bloc, because the alternatives were way worse
What are you gonna take instead, a Wartburg that was basically a prewar car almost till the end of East Germany or a Pobeda rigged together from prewar opel designs and whatever they managed to lift from ford/dodge?
Compared to them a fiat from the sixties is a fucking leap in technology so even poles whose 124 offshoot was based on yet older tech than the zhiguli build them till the commie system collapsed

Thing rigged together from opel designs was moskvitch-400/401(its basically pre-war opel kadett), produced immediately after the war.
Pobeda is GAZ, and gaz always, from its beginning as ford turnkey factory(GAZ A is literally Ford Model A) to the death of its passenger car business leaned american in its designs. Pobeda looks inspired by pre-war american midrange cars.
By the time lada began production, there was gaz-24 volga - "luxury" car of local design, heavily inspired by american cars of the 60s(it looks quite similar to ford falcon or chevy nova); moskvitch-408 - same class as lada, but local design(some similarities to post-war kadett A, but quite distinct); and zaz-966 zaporozhets - rear engine supermini, most likely inspired by nsu prinz and hillman imp.

They use meat waves to uncover defensive points to hit with fires.

In larger attacks they use meat waves to exhaust/tie down Ukies. Then follow up with the 'decent' units.

This used to comprise of VDV or naval infantry. Both units have taken very heavy casualties and are not receiving like for like replacements. Reports of VDV receiving guys from regular motor rifle units. Naval infantry seems to get a lot of prisoner recruits.

Why does it matter what vehicles they are in when they are still advancing and winning?

There is so much cope about how bad Russian weapons are and still they keep winning against NATO which has 10x their GDP. I think it's time people realize that the supposed superiority of western weapons is manufactured propaganda. Missiles and bullets are simple objects and easy to manufacture by any industrialized society. Quantity is what matters going forward especially drone swarms which is where Russia and China excel due to their superior manufacturing.

Man power is irrelevant you can always have more children. Russians continue to advance and the supposedly sophisticated western weapons have done nothing to stop them. It is clear to anyone that isn't brainwashed that western weapons have significantly underperformed especially considering their significantly higher costs compared to Russia counterparts. There needs to be a serious review of the entire US military to determine if it could even stand a chance against someone like China with the realities of US weapon underperformance in Ukraine. US odds look bleak against Chinese drone swarms and the US would never be able to manufacture enough to resolve this issue.

> Everyone knows everything.
A bit of sperging on the subject of "everyone knows everything".
First - its supposed to be "everyone understands everything".
Second - its not supposed to be used in "pompously optimistic official bs statement", its a reaction phrase of someone somewhat disappointed with bold lies of such statements, but not comfortable with calling it out.
As "something bad is happening, information about badthing is widely spreading, but its not acknowledged officially/not spoken about openly/spoken about but not very truthfully/sugarcoated" - then you get situation of OH WELL, EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS EVERYTHING, because duh - everyone involved and not understands everything(how it really is), but is dont want/cant say it aloud.
You understand they arent saying the truth, they understand they arent saying the truth, they understand you understand they arent saying the truth, both of you also understand the real situation and both of you understand that saying the truth isnt an option.
So, "eh, everyone understands everything, wink-wink" - you are aware that what is said is total bullshit, but you play along.

It is 2024, the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc are gone and from the ruin emerged the successor state known as the Russian Federation. For four decades now Moscow has attempted to recover its sphere of influence, Russkiy Mir, using every economic, political, military and information weapon available.
But hope is fading, at Ukraine the best of the Russian Armed Forces was annihilated while trying a rush against the capital city of Kyiv, Russia uses now waves of infantry taken from their poorest and their minorities, sustained by the ever-diminishing stock of armored vehicles built for a World War, the attackers reinforced by thousands of men from the Third World, promised fortune and revenge against europeans.
Enraged, the nations of the West have brought for sanctions against Russia. In Asia the Kremlin has been forced to bargain with the People’s Republic of China its raw resources at a fraction of what europeans once paid to sustain the war, the support from of Iran and North Korea not enough to replace what was lost when Ukraine successfully resisted the initial russian armored assault.
Now, as the days drag on the Russian Federation grows desperate, willing to sacrifice more than a thousand souls a day to take over Donbass, the region decimated by industrial warfare and russian callousness, all threats of nuclear annihilation not enough to stop Washington, London and Paris from allowing the Armed Forces of Ukrainian to unleash their most advanced weapons upon russian territory, threatening to halt the offensive and make them lose all their gains.
To be a russian today is to live in self-denial, to see all the brutal deaths and the destruction of a future as justified, hoping it would be enough to tire the West, but even that belief cannot elude the humiliating truth, Russia’s fate depends now on the whims of the United States of America, the hegemon of the World. A title Russia will never again be capable to aspire to.

unchanged analysis
80.38% of ISS 'themilitarybalance' estimates of 25609 Russian towed and self propelled artillery and mortars, active and reserve Feb 2022 are destroyed approximately 5,023 remain. Also many remaining Russian guns in depots have had their barrels removed to be used as replacements for worn barrels. Russia's chronic vehicle shortage now has a companion chronic artillery shortage, this will begin to leave compromising levels of reduced artillery in portions of the Russian front lines commencing in ~1 days at the attrition rate of the last 12 months.

Not really? They were very useful, arguably amazing at ranged quick response, but like you said there's only 6 of them, their impact while effective per unit is only so high.
GLMRS is superior to all other Ukrainian medium range MLRS but it's not the only fire support Ukraine has.
Most of the battery towards Russian forces came, arguably comes, from 152mm shells and 122mm rockets.

Impact protection even on late 90's and 00's cars is many generations ahead of what stuff made using 60's era vehicle design. Sure it makes cars heavier and we'll never stop complaining about sensors telling us something is a bit fuckywucky, but even tiny little jap cars like a Honda Jazz have some really insane levels of protection. I've seen one of them get clobbered by a speeding Ford Ranger that went blasting through an intersection at about 90km/h, hit the Jazz on the front driver's side quarter. Spun it around, panels everywhere, airbags on bags and the little car ended up on its roof after rolling about 2-3 times.

Not that anon, but
You mistake help for 'selling', anything Russia gets from Iran, China or Norf Korea is paid for in hard currency or valuables like gold. Which is their reserves that back up a lot of things in the economy. They started this war with a chest of about 300bil with 300bil locked up in western countries they can't get out or use.
That doesn't last long in a war when you're throwing around million dollar missiles and 4-5million dollar tanks or letting 20million dollar SHORAD systems get towed off by Farmer Boris in his John Deere. The big problem is that the driving force of the economy is crippled, oil sanctions dealt out the big bad dick and what's worse, Russia lied to OPEC about how much it was pumping and selling when they shifted a lot through their shadow fleet.
OPEC is probably going to start pumping up product just to 'teach them a lesson' at some point and the infrastructure in Russia, its not doing so good when its on fire
