could a magnifier with an etched reticle be possible as a backup optic?
>>

yeah

kk thx!
gonna dremmel a notch on my lens now
>>
boomp

I just wanna say I know it's not in the current zeitgeist but I fucking love my FN M4A1 clone with Eotech and magnifier
>>
>>62888303
No, because the magnifier has an incredibly short focal distance. It's designed to focus on the optic in front of it, not the target many yards in front of you.
Also, how is this even a question? Did you never look through a magnifying glass a a kid and notice that it looks real fucking blurry unless you're looking at something really close?
>>
>>62889744
why does the magnifier show a red dot fine then?
(the camera made it look shitty, it looks fine irl)
>>
>>62889744
NTA. I’m not understanding. The red dot is just a window. If the target is 100 yards away, the magnifier is ‘seeing” that same target at that same distance, through the red dot window. If you took the red dot away, the picture would appear the same, minus the reticle.
>>
So, a prism?
>>
>>62889821
do they have side folding prisms that work fine with red dots?
>>
>>62889830
Alternatively, any reason one can not make a prism magnifier? No reticle, just magnification. They tend to be lighter than standard magnifiers of equal magnification strength.

i think thats what a holosun hm3xt is

>why does the magnifier show a red dot fine then?
Because the red dot is close to the magnifier, within its focal distance. The magnifier is designed so its focal distance matches the distance to the optic in front of it on the rail.

>but what if someone re-designed the magnifier to have a longer focal distance, like long enough to see the target clearly
that's called a telescope, commonly called just a "scope".
>>

Retard.

>>62889858
Magnifiers are just prism scopes with no reticle.

no?
you can literally set it 1/2"-2' away, and it'll end up looking the same

Kind of unrelated but would a red dot with flip covers work as a backup rear sight if you drilled a small enough hole to act as an aperture in the rear cover? Pair it with a front sight, either fixed or flip up and assuming it works you get some more utility out of your hardware. Obviously wouldn't be pinpoint unless you really dialed it in during the drilling and you'd need duct tape over the hole in the cover.

Monstrum and Vector Optics makes one for their 1x prism.

Nigger that's called a scope.
>>
>>62889931
you are retarded. do you even own a magnifier? you can pull it off and use it as a monocular to look at something 100 ft away if you want.
