Northrop has delivered the first terribly named Stand-in Attack Weapon test missile to the US Air Force.SiAW is an air-to-surface missile for relocatable targets, including but not limited to: theater ballistic missile launchers, cruise and anti-ship missile launchers, GPS jamming platforms and anti-satellite systems. It will have a shorter range than standoff weapons, being fired by an aircraft after penetrating enemy airspace. SiAW will fit inside the F-35's internal weapon bays. The design leverages prior art in terrible acronyms, most notably AARGM-ER.

What does it stand in for? I guess: the alien DEW they're going to actually install in the f35
You know your weapon names are bad when you would get better names by just adding ”Super” as prefix to older systems.
>>62892636>terrible acronymsnothing can beat ASRAAM

>>62893541I heard those are made in Birmingham,
This made me think, if there isn't already there needs to be a weapon that homes in on GPS signal emitters not coming from space. Same concept as an ARM. Is there anything fundamental preventing this?
>>62893823it's all receivers when it comes to munitions. there's nothing to target.
>>62893743Way down in Alabam'?
>>62893823HARM can most likely do it, the signal is in the right frequency range and is stronger than radar sidelobes it normally tries to look forthere were some cheaper options like JDAM mounted low cost seeker
>>62893879What the fuck are you talking about?GPS jammers transmit false GPS signals which fool GPS guidance.
>>62893823I tried not to infodump too hard in the OP. Maybe I underestimated the obscurity of the latest recent updates to this missile family. So.AGM-88 is HARMAGM-88E is AARGMAGM-88G is AARGM-ERSiAW is still slightly open to interpretation – officially, the procurement office claims the missile is being developed "competitively" – but the initial version for prototyping and testing is known to be a further modification of AARGM-ER.>Interim combat capability is pursued through the Navy's Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile Extended Range (AARGM-ER) program with improved warhead/fuze and F-35 integration (including Universal Armament Interface [UAI] and Mission Planning). In so many words, SiAW is being built for exactly what you have in mind.
>>62892636I feel like SiAW is essentially a modernized SLAM-ER in how it's intended on being used.
>>62895883Here is exactly how the line item is described in the two most recent budget proposals.https://www.saffm.hq.af.mil/Portals/84/documents/FY24/Procurement/FY24%20Air%20Force%20Missile%20Procurement.pdfhttps://www.saffm.hq.af.mil/Portals/84/documents/FY25/FY25%20Air%20Force%20Missile%20Procurement.pdf

And here's the current SiAW "datasheet" from NG - useless.
One more thing, this is what "stand-in" means.
>>62892913fucking Dragon Ball Z ass names. Love it. "Super AIM9X Sidewinder 2 FullPower Kaio-ken times ten"

>>62896029>Who the fuck talks like this.People who wish to express contempt for your glib shitstick disregard for even taking in what you're looking at for a solid 5 to 10 seconds before doing your drive-by pollution. You're not even trying to troll effectively.
>>62896042by that logic every penny spent on the military during peacetime is a wasteI guess we should be locked in to a forever war to make defense spending 'useful'
>>62892636Hey now, AARGM is great>pirate logo> AARgmhttps://ndia.dtic.mil/wp-content/uploads/2009/gunmissile/AARGM.pdf
>>62896042Well not for you, because youre a ban evading neet helmettard
>>62894245to the receivers, anon. you can't hit the jammers, because the radiation isn't strong.all you can do is shoot down the satellites.
>>62895883Yeah, it's basically "let's take the newest version of HARM and make it so it can also be used against non-emitting targets". So, basically, a conventional SRAM. The newer HARMs already had a MMW radar, so it can track and ID moving targets. I would assume that it probably has a datalink, too.>>62895926Why does budget authority more than double in FY27 and FY28 when procurement drops? It almost looks like a sports contract where the out years are just for show, and the team plans to re-negotiate the contract or cut the player before those bills come due. Is the "50" just a placeholder, and they're actually planning to increase production at that point?
>>62895940Wonder how much lift you gain from that "canard" or whatever its called
>>62895974>>62896042It's amazing that people arrive at mindsets they think are fresh, new, and VISIONARY when they're literally just recycling shit that's already been proven to be retarded several times over, by now. You're being called a vatnoid because everyone knows this mindset gets your ass wrecked when the next big fight shows up and you've got fuckall to answer the challenges faced with your existing, dated inventories. Only an opponent would try to spread this mindset in the year 1914+110
>>62892913>super bazooka

>>62892636"Argmer" isn't so hard to say, I've always liked "Amram" and "Attack 'ems" despite being clunky acronyms spelling wise
>>62896242GPS JAMMERS ARE GROUND BASED EMITTERS OF GPS SIGNALS GPS UTILIZING DEVICES RECEIVE GPS SIGNALS TO TELL WHERE THEY AREGPS JAMMERS SEND FALSE SIGNALSIf a GPS device can be fooled into receiving these signals obviously weapons could detect the same emissions.
>>62892636>SiAW will fit inside the F-35's internal weapon baysittybitty missile and no rangeittybitty missile and no range
>>62899395>plugging your ears and going lalalala historically worked well for changs
First it's the LRASMThen it's the AIM-174 Now the SiAW appears The schizo's butthole can't catch a break

>>62899438>cuckabsolutely broken
>>62899395>>62899395AARGM-ER has a greater range than the baseline HARM configuration, since it's an upgraded motor with increased diameter while still being the same length. The F-35 bay could fit the regular HARM if it wasn't for the wings and a few inches of length. That few inches is gained with a new compact warhead, it's all detailed here:>>62899438
>>62895947So isa it actually just a pork project for NG welfare? Because this really makes it seem like that’s what it is, ie let’s pretend to evolve a capability for future threats etc with “agile” software engineering (jeets, jeets everywhere).
>>62896324>Why does budget authority more than double in FY27 and FY28 when procurement drops? It almost looks like a sports contract where the out years are just for show, and the team plans to re-negotiate the contract or cut the player before those bills come due. Is the "50" just a placeholder, and they're actually planning to increase production at that point?I have heard multiple people who follow missile procurement much more closely than I do suggest that the final AUR inventory could easily double from the current program numbers. The increase for FY27-28 could be guarding the program funds for the time being, like you've mentioned.Another complication: ground launched AARM-ER is seemingly still forging on ahead, as Advanced Reactive Strike (AReS). That was still a USN program, last I checked, but development costs could be reflected in the SiAW accounting that we're looking at.
>>62895964We don't need that and we don't fight like that and what the fuck is contested airspace and by who with what? What fucking airspace is contested against the top either 3 or 4 airforces in the world together under the stars & bars? Our standoff it so titty squeezing awesome we will never need stand in weapons.
>>62899426But it's just AReS with a different rail and engine...
>see awwThat's based.
