Man arrested on suspicion of possessing electromagnetic gun "coil gun"; manufacturing video also releasedA 29-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of violating the Sword and Firearms Control Law for possessing a lethal electromagnetic gun, commonly known as a "really coil gun." The suspect had posted a video of the manufacturing process on a video distribution site, and the Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the details of the incident. The arrested suspect is Nobuaki Usui (29), a man of unknown occupation from Nasu Town, Tochigi Prefecture.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, he is suspected of violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law for possessing a so-called "coil gun," an electromagnetic gun that fires bullets using magnetic force, at his home last month. The suspect had posted a video of the manufacturing process on a video streaming site, and when investigators found the video on a "cyber patrol," they seized it and analyzed it, and it was found to have a structure capable of firing live ammunition and lethality.
>>62893769looks based.
When questioned, the suspect reportedly said, "I made it when I was a high school student."The law regarding coil guns was revised in June this year, and possession will be prohibited in principle by March next year, so the police are collecting them free of charge and are calling on people to bring them to the nearest police station.https://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/20241119/k10014642881000.html
>>62893780Do the Japs really think people are gonna start offing politicians with homemade coil guns now?
>>62893806Look at what their cops carry
>>62893840>inspectionnI will find you, keyboard gremlins, and I will kill youAnd some of them don't even carry at the ready
>>62893840Perfectly adequate considering the fact that any criminal will likely be armed the same, if not simply armed with a knife (and samurai spirit, kek). Coil guns are useful only for killing close range, unsuspecting targets. They simply lack the long range precision of say a rifle or pistol. I do agree they should be given glocks or some shit, simply to get with the fucking times. Nips living like its still 1955.
>>62893863According to this 2024 article, japan has a grand total of 8 swat units (SAT). All use 9mm sidearms and SMGs. Then there's the P230 in certain other police structures.https://armsweb.jp/report/5294.html
>>62893774>>62893780>The suspect had posted a video of the manufacturing process on a video streaming siteWell the article doesn't have the link, so what are we doing here?
>>62893840Big fan of Officer Nakadashi with the stainless S&W.
>>62893954She knows hers is bigger
Wow I guess Japan really is run by fags. Like, we knew that but this is like, in-your-face. You’re arresting some guy for making a fun gadget that’s probably less deadly than a fucking BB gun? I hope the judge or whoever lectures the police for being fags.
>>62893918SAT is more equivalent to a federal paramilitary counter-terror unit than local SWAT teams. More local equivalents are orgs like SIT, MAAT, or FCU.
>>62893953We need anime-speakers to point us in the right direction of copies that might still be online.

>>62894480>The law regarding coil guns was revised in June this year, and possession will be prohibited in principle by March next yearHe'll probably just be fined a nominal amount and have his neat highschool memory taken to the incinerator. That's what they do when people accidentally traffick in real guns, which happens surprisingly often in japan because they have a big market for high-quality models of pretty much everything.
>>62894003The YouTube comments are all quite supportive. He literally made it as a kid and left it in his house for ten years. Most likely he gets a stern warning and the prosecutors will refuse to press charges
>>62894475pretty cool, but it's basically a slingshot in power (as expected), so fuck the pigs.

>>62893769Wouldn't it have to be the size of a car/shipping container to actually be a lethal threat? What a joke. Are bows/crossbows regulated in Japan?
>>62895827>Are bows/crossbows regulated in Japan?Ooo! I have a story. So yes. A lot of crossbows are now banned. And I actually have a distant personal connection to the reason why.Kagawa Prefecture, around 2020, a friend of mine quit his job because it was a shitty company. One of his colleagues told his friend of the opening. The new guy joined. He also learned how bad the job sucked. So he led the coworker out to a field and murdered him with a crossbow and got something like 19 years in prison (been a couple of years since I read this. I'm shaky on the details). And this is why the laws around crossbows got tightened. Because my friend's shitty, stressful old job actually drove a man to murder. If you read Japanese, look it up if you don't believe me.

>>62895968Buraku kigyo, fucking up everythign for everyone.
>>62895257I doubt that capacitance meets the energy thresholds of an actual gun. I'd call it a magnetic actuator or hammer at best. Did you see the size of that nip gun? And it was mostly a capacitor. But i love your design. Could fit some dystopian theme nicely.
>>62895257>>62895262Nice, how did it shoot?
>>62894500>Most likely he gets a stern warning and the prosecutors will refuse to press chargesknowing how this shit works in Japan, i wouldn't be too optimistic. If they're going as far as to arrest him, then they're not going to stop until they've convicted him, as anything less would be an embarrassment. The fact that he doesn't have a right to silence doesn't help with matters, so the prosecution is going to grill the dude non-stop until they get him to confess to whatever cockamamie bullshit they want.you should read this manga, it's an adaptation of an autobiography of a guy who had to deal with a lot of this shit and is illustrated by Junji Ito:https://mangadex.org/title/37c8394a-f3aa-43d9-acc1-21615681cec8/rasputin-the-patriotThey might go easy on him since he's not that big a deal, but he's going to get convicted either way. attorneys in japan are giga-niggers.
>>62896369Not how I expected to pick up a manga today, but thanks, anon.
>>62896249>>62896096thanks anons. Mine was able to fire a cut-off nail into a piece of styrofoam out to about three feet. I didn't have much budget and 90% of it came from disposable cameras I bought at goodwill lol. It's sat in a box for about 9 years now, I keep thinking about getting it out and dicking with it some more
>>62893769This thing makes about 2J of muzzle energy, similar to a high end airsoft gun, about 1/80th the power of a 22LR. Fella is in trouble with what amounts to a children's toy.
>>62894475Did they seriously charge him for making a toy that shoots bullets that can't even go through a pillow? Even airsoft is more powerful than that.Japan is such a country of authoritarian dumbfucks it's unreal.
>>62894500>prosecutor refusing to press charges>slam dunk conviction>japaneseLmao no
>>62896369>If they're going as far as to arrest him, then they're not going to stop until they've convicted him, as anything less would be an embarrassment.Pile of bullshit.not to powerlevel, but I've spent far too many years in Japan and met a few rough characters with criminal histories (my wife's shithead family) You know that whole "heckin' 99% conviction rate!" shit? It's true: For cases that go to trial. There are a ton of off-ramps by which cases are cleared. Illegally modified airguns and things like that happen all the time and it usually ends with a confiscation, arrest, and no further action. You can confess to a crime and the legal system will often go "Well, don't do it again, okay?" or just have you pay a token fine.A acquaintance of mine had a nervous breakdown and ended up getting arrested after breaking and entering a stranger's house because of some delusion he was having. The police ended up letting him off with a warning. Another friend punched a guy in a bar. Admitted it, there were about a dozen witnesses. Result: you guessed it, let off with a warning.
>>62895827It wouldn't have to be quite that big, but given the size of it and the capacitor is that powers it? No way it's a threat. A pellet gun, slingshot, or crossbow would be a much more dangerous weapon.
>>62893769You can't actually stop people with an IQ above room temperature from making firearms. They're medieval technology. All you can do is lower the moral character of your people until most of them choose not to arm themselves, but this will cause the decay of your society until death.
>>62893954>Officer Nakadashihahahaha oh fuck dude3rd gen smiths are sexy af
>>62893780Why did they arrest him if it’s not prohibited yet?
>>62899420Didn't check on the new law. Assuming the autotranslate is faithful and the NHK writer got their facts straight, that wording allows for a scenario whereinterim rule => he needs to get a loicensefinal rule => no further loicensure will be performed. That's typical of grandfathering schemes used for new criminal regulations around the world. There are always people who their foot cemented in the door when a whole product category is to be banned. Likewise, if you already have a business, museum, or something else based around the now banned thing, you have to be able to function legally long enough to deal with the situation.
