>Russians are being sent in Lada Niva's to attack
Uh, wouldn't a BMP be a better option for this?
>>
It honestly depends. Ukies often also prefer pickup trucks for light transport, instead of soviet shitboxes.

all things aside, Lada Niva is a decent, robust 4x4, it's quite popular in Europe.

Given the ways we've seen BMP, BMD and BTR's die horribly so far its mostly just how much you want to keep shrapnel out from near hits, because direct hits and mines are usually catastrophic

small arms ambushes aren't all that common.

if a drone with a rpg hits you, it doesn't really matter if you're in a bmp or a car. speed is the most important thing.

Check the videos of operations, check the locals doing fundraisers to buy pickup trucks. A small, light and maneuverable (compared to a BTR) transport is a godsend. It's also expendable, it's less of an issue if you lose a pickup truck, versus losing a BTR. In many ways hundreds of those Humvees that US sent helped a lot.

Hmmm...I wonder why they are fundraising for pickup trucks and not armored vehicles you can't just buy in any car shop.
Vehicles behind lines can be thin skinned but anywhere close to front should be at least MRAP. If you're doing rotations in pickup trucks something is wrong

The Russian civvie market has been producing nothing but borked and half-dead vehicles this year, so as long as they are new cars and not pre-war models, you could technically say these are only worth like 0.5 points on the stats compared to the 1 you get from a BMP.

>t. Never seen a Niva
Try not believing Russky propaganda, all Russian cars, including and eapecially the Niva require extremely extensive maintenance to function. I'm talking about 3-4 hours every weekend. When you buy a new one the first thing you do is take it to your local mechanic to make it roadworthy. Change the sealings, apply anti-corrosion paint where it's needed, etc. Maintaining a Russian car is almost a full time job, that's why you always carry half of your garage in the trunk anywhere you go as they can break down at the drop of a hat. The reason why people can live with them is that they haven't changed since the 70s, so everyone knows how to fix them, they learned from their grandparents. They are also extremely simple, so only a few things can break, but they WILL break.

>>62895169
That's just wrong. Many of us use public transport when inside cities but you overestimate it, as many of us also own cars besides that but just don't take them to work, and virtually nobody takes a car to the shop.
Public transport between cities is hit or miss. If you can get five more friends and occupy an entire train cabin, this is just a heavenly way to travel. Luggage in the above compartment, music on, in my country beer on as well. Drunk traveling with friends > car. But said friends also have cars, the two are not mutually exclusive.
>>
>>62894324
Well, of course, but it won't matter much longer.

It's too small to be a medivac, it has a huge amount of equipment in the back and space for 2 in front, with what appears to be a radar jamming array on the roof.
It might not be used "in an attack" in the sense that it is the farthest most forward vehicle charging towards enemy lines, but it is operating at the front lines, on the zero line of combat.
Is bringing a truck the last 5 km to a fighting position with weapons, ammo and fresh meat not engaging in an aggressive, "attack" like operation? The lines aren't defensive.

Attack means to attack. Running around doing logi shit or rotating staff or trying (and failing) to do EW is not "being sent to attack".

Both sides make extensive use of light soft-skinned vehicles to do that sort of thing. Because it fucking works. They are faster, more agile, have a smaller logistical footprint, easier to replace and (most importantly) have a smaller signature and are significantly lower on the list of priorities. A bmp is going to draw in every FPV loitering over the rear, yet another pickup (among dozens of others running around) will at best be the victim of an opportunistic attack.

Bitch that ain't sophistry it's pedantry, if you say it's used for an attack, but it was really used to transport troops to a front line position to mount an attack, then it was used for an attack.
It's funny that you use the word sophistry to decry someone giving a reasonable explanation to a lexical ambiguation, extending an olive branch and giving the benefit of the doubt, to instead impose a rigid framework on language.
Language changes, small sentences are used to explain big ideas, and saying "the Russians use Lada Nivas to attack" is a lot simpler and easier to understand than "the Russians use Lada Nivas to support front-line combat operations"
