All thanks to the Mongol conquests, though curiously East Asian cultures replaced the side and neck plates with lamellar or brigandine.

The helmet you posted is actually deriviative of a spangenhelm not the chichak, early Ming helmets are identical to 14th century Cuman helmets.

>Hell, Ming armor in general is cool
Unfortunately most of what is marketed as "Ming" ends up dating towards the Early Qing.

It's cool shit but the Mongols weren't the first steppe people to bring cool shit to Europe
Pic related is an Avar helmet, spread from them to the Lombards and Franks
Neat bonus: the dark ages chronicle writers, mostly monks misidentified the Avars as Huns, so the main reason the Huns are as alive in cultural memory aren't their own exploits, but those of the Avars that arrived in Europe later on

Goes both ways, steppe nomads were responsible for the transmission of the spangenhelm during the Chinese Northern dynasties. Tang helmet found in Luoyang, earlier spangenhelms can be found in tomb figurines and murals.

Spangenhelms were still in use more than one millenia later in Ming China and Joseon Korea. Ming helmet (likely Wanli era) stored in the Jinxiang Cultural Center, Shandong province. These type of helmets can still be found in the early 17th century, though there was a large shift towards >>62894868 with the introduction of a seperate brow guard.
