I think that the South Korean "Raybolt" anti-tank missile system is neat

I don't know anything about it. Tell me more.

If you need to get the last bit of reliability squeezed out of it, which is vital for such a weapon, than you need it to be cooled. Dunno how the current tech is at the moment or if it has changed in recent years, but uncooled systems have been way more prone to not get a lock-on or lose it.

That is the big difference here, hopefully it's decent or Peltier cooled which would still be "uncooled" because there is no gas.

Yes

Drones can't bring 50kg payload, also you need thousands of them for saturation bombardment
>why have rifles if drones
Since ww1 rifles was used mostly for self confidence anyway

Mostly age, for parts commonality they are still produced using cutting edge tech that is extremely expensive to manufacture. Problem is that cutting edge tech is from the 80s, not mass produced and still fucking expensive to make.
If you didn't care about parts commonality you could replace the 80s processor with a $50 Raspberry Pi but you would need to spend upfront to change the line.

it's a weapon ostensibly for use against north korea however it is completely unnecessary as the north is going to win without firing a shot simply because south koreans refuse to have any kids

>>
>>62913137
>Drones can't bring 50kg payload,
Ackshually there are heavy drones like Ukrainian Baba Yaga and they can carry like 20 kg payload and start to invade into arty roles.
Like to achieve hit against bunker you need to expend around 100 155mm HE shells with $200000 overall price tag. Or you can drop single HE pack right on top of teh bunker from 10 feet altitude and achieve the same effect but for $1000.

Because secret to US wealth is overpricing everything ridiculously. And then later just bump the salaries up to new realities because printing money is free when it's not tied to anything. That way GDP keeps growing regardless of productivity. And since you aren't the only country in the world you can buy shit for cheap from someone who didn't snowball their imaginary value yet.
>>
>>62913050
You meant to say
>like me.
>>
>>62913078
it also depends where you are and what the weather's like cause you're looking for a thermal delta versus the surrounding environment. with current year gooktech sensors uncooled is probably "good enough" for hunting norks and ziggers in temperate climes, but maybe not for retard adventures in deserts and jungles
>>
>>62913289

Thermals measure temperature difference between the sensor and the object. The bigger the difference the clearer the object.
So if your sensor is very cold everything else is much hotter by comparison allowing the sensor to pick up heat signature from much further away.
Also if an object has nearly the same temperature as the sensor it would be harder for the sensor to pick up it's heat signature.

HOWEVER

Technology now is much more advanced than back in the 90s and the programs that are used to identify and lock on a target are far more advanced as well as the sensor themselves are much more sensitive being able to follow signatures very precisely which likely means that there is not so much of a need for an item to have a large temperature difference with the sensor to be easily locked. So cooling these days is not really needed anymore, at least not at the MAX range of this weapon. Cooling has its disadvantages too: more weight, more costs, uses a lot of battery power, needs quite a bit of time to be used after turning on as the sensor need to reach a stable cooled temperature and it is an extra component that can potentially fail.

So today cooling is likely not necessary at 3-4km ranges as it can be replaced by better target recognition programs and better sensors that can recognize and lock a target even if the heat signature is more blended in the background or much closer to the sensor own temperature.

Cooling would likely only be necessary at much longer distances these days.
>>
>>62914195
>Thermals measure temperature difference between the sensor and the object.
No. Thermals measure the varying levels of infrared radiation coming from different parts of the scene.
Cooling the sensor reduces signal noise, increasing sensitivity and resolution.

It had strong depth of field (sharpness/focus) and it later got the jpg artifact treatment. Hence why the front of the launcher looks shopped in front of the man, but the back still seems okay. Don't be Hank Hill, save in png.
