It's considerably less interactive than SoC.
A-Life has been practically stripped down from it. Devs are saying they are going to fix it but I don't think the system is functional at all. Squads just despawn/spawn at random, also no Bino because you are not supposed to look far away and realize nothing's happening.
Firefights are OK but they feel too much like you are playing on the previous game's Master difficulty regardless of what you do.
Spawns are broken.
No mutant parts is dumb. There's no reason to pick a fight with them, easier to just escape if possible.
Story is meh but I am ok with it because after CoP there wasn't really anywhere to pick up from. So they have to restart from somewhere, unfortunately, that meant bombarding the player with the highest grade of fanservice possible across the board.
All Soviet Leftovers besides weapons and rundown machinery have been completely stripped from the game because of "muh war", so there atmosphere has been touched, and you can notice it after a bit, there's no old propaganda lying around besides very rare Ukrainian military stuff here and there regarding The Zone.

If you like having firefights all the time like if you were using the good old CoC warfare mod, go and play it.
If not, then stick to even further modded CoC or straight up Anomaly, just tweak values in-game at the 2 different .diff sections so it's not a slog and is as free-play as it can be.
Also, current Stalker 2 kind of doesn't really have freeplay, even the devs mentioned that is going to get added later on (alongside the PvP/Multiplayer), the game is currently more SoC in that regard, odd. Although, "free-play" wasn't exactly a thing in previous games per-se. It was just a consequence of how the progression was set and because you CAN keep playing with the same world but mods like CoC seared it into people's minds (which is good, the game unbeatable in many aspects).

I don't recommend the game in its current state.

There was no much to pick up from after SoC and CS. Yet they made a new story with new characters in CoP. Here they have absolutely useless returns of old characters(Strelok dies in one of the endings btw), together with absolutely retarded retcons. Game is lacking so much from original trilogy it's insane. And newborn fans will defend it, somehow.

Well, kind of the fourth time if we count CS's ending leading up to SoC a sort of "death".

Well, probably, all I saw is design documents with "final choice", which leads to "8" endings(6 of them are just "Skif is enemy of strelok", and other two are "Strelok dies") in various choices, which probably lead to different ending custcenes.
