I finally got my first optic and I want to head to the range to zero it. Can someone explain how to calculate MOA and how people always know how many clicks to turn for their elevation and windage?
>>64124435Hey there, congrats on getting your first optic. MOA is minute of angle, which basically equates to a group within 1 square inch at 100 yards. Most targets like yours pictured have those 1x1" grid lines. For example, if your best group at 100 yards falls within 2x2" area, then you can consider your rifle to be 2 MOA. MOA is scalable, so lets say your 2 MOA rifle groups in 1" groups at 50 yards, or 4" groups at 200 yards, that doesn't make your rifle 1MOA at 50 or 4MOA at 200.Now as far as your scope adjustments, its probable that each turret click is 1MOA, but you should check with your handbook, some scopes have their adjustments in mils.
Asked about this in a different thread to no avail but does anyone know a good online source of Mk. 1 Singer sights for a No. 4 Mk. 1 Enfield? Only one I've found has to be imported from Bongland& paid for in euros. I'll do it if I have to but idk if it'll be here in time for deer season
>>64124453I went all out and got a 4x32 ACOG, manual says the adjustments are 1/2 inch per click at 100 yards. The only range I have access to is an indoor range which is 74 feet. Would each click be a larger adjustment at closer range?
>>64124603Smaller adjustment. If 1 click moves 1/2" at 100y, then it's only moving 1/8" at 25 yards. So if you shoot your target at 75 feet/25 yards and you're hitting 2" high, you'd need to adjust 16 clicks down.
>>6412460374 feet is roughly 25m, you should be able to get a serviceable zero from there.
>>64124655Cool, thanks. Watched a few videos on zeroing but somehow they didn't make too much sense.
>>64124763You bet, FYI read your ACOG manual. IIRC if you use the tip of the BDC at 25y you're roughly sighted in at 100y. Best combat optic ever invented desu.
>>64124435Read the manual.
>>641244351 minute of angle = 1/60th of a degreethe MOA of your rifle is equal to the angle at the tip of a cone which has a base diameter equal to your group diameter and a height equal to your distance from the target. you can imagine the bullets you fire sprading out in a cone shape with the tip of the cone at your muzzle. the bullet drop is neglected since that needlessly complicates things.therefore your group sort of looks like a triangle from the side (if you neglect bullet drop) so you can find the angle at the tip of the imaginary triangle through trignonometry. remember sohcahtoa from high school math class, tangent = opposite/adjacent. the opposite side would be your group radius and the adjacent side is the distance to the target. therefore your MOA is arctan(group radius/distance to target). or you could just be a normal person and use >>64124453's rule of thumb.
>>64124435Get it dead on at the 74 ft you have. The zero won't be perfect to the BDC in elevation, but it will be in the ballpark and your windage adjustments will be set. Once you get a chance to zero at a more conventional distance like the 25m the military uses, you will only have to make minor adjustments to elevation.

Recommend me an appendix carry holster that won't break at the claw in less than a year.I've gone through a couple of sidecars and now an ANR. They all crack where the claw attaches.
>>64126630I like Tenicor. I carry AIWB with their Sagax Luxe 2, but they don’t seem to make that specific model anymore. I’ve been carrying it for about a year, no problems.
>>64126560could be a 4x32, but manufacturer is impossible to tell.
1 MOA is 1in at 100yd or ~3cm at 100m. Use basic math to convert those values if you shoot at another distance. Zeroing is typically done at 100m though.Rest the rifle on a stable support, take to not mess with the barrel's harmonics by making sure no force is applied to it (ie : do not rest the rifle on the barrel and do not attach anything to it). Shoot a 3 round group and observe point of impact. Now, go look at your optic manual and see how much one click is. For most long range optics 1 click = 1mil = 1cm at 100m. Now adjust your reticle to match the point of impact. Shoot a new 3 round group, adjust if necessary until point of aim = point of impact. Shoot an additional group to confirm. If you are not shooting at 100m then use basic math to convert : for 50m for example, just divide the value of a click by 2. In fact if you have never used that optic it is recommended to make a first adjustement at a closer range because it's possible your point of impact will be outside the target at 100m.You can also use this method to check if your rifle's accuracy matches its manufacturer's specifications. Expected accuracy ranges are :3-6MOA for old rifles or short barrel rifles1-3MOA for most modern rifles<1 MOA for precision bolt action riflesKeep in mind that any change you make on barrel harmonics : changing the muzzle device, adding a bipod or handle that is applying indirect force to the barrel, changing ammunition, changing the optic's position on the rifle and so on, will change your point of impact and you will need to zero your optic again.

Couple questions about plate carriersWhat are some recommendations for carriers that don't fasten the cummerbund with Velcro?..What do I need to adjust to make so it stops riding up in the front? Is there any specific reason? Finally, are there any Camelbaks that can attach right to the carrier?
>>64129532>What are some recommendations for carriers that don't fasten the cummerbund with Velcro?..Just look for a chink-made carrier with quick-detatch clips instead of velcro. There are dozens, and there's truly no reason to blow hundreds on a plate carrier for the sake of name brands>What do I need to adjust to make so it stops riding up in the front? I don't have anyone to help and am tired of moving it every couple minutesThe weight distribution>I don't recall seeing anyone put a knife on theirs. Is there any specific reason?Becase you'll never be in a knife fight, so the only knife you actually need is a small sharp folder in your pocket. Also knives on carriers get in the way of your stock>Finally, are there any Camelbaks that can attach right to the carrier?Yeah Condor sells some that have MOLLE straps
>>64129582>The weight distributionI don't have anything on my back that would pull it down. The front would be a little heavier from my pistol in the holster. >Yeah Condor sells some that have MOLLE strapsDo you happen to know offhand if any are also compatible with the gas mask converter from CamelBak?

>>64129532>What are some recommendations for carriers that don't fasten the cummerbund with Velcro? Why? You seem really new and I want to make sure your reasoning is sound>What do I need to adjust to make so it stops riding up in the front? I don't have anyone to help and am tired of moving it every couple minutesWhat carrier do you have? You normally adjust the shoulder straps and get the cummerbund tight. Most people have the opposite problem so let's see a pic. >I don't recall seeing anyone put a knife on theirs. Is there any specific reason?Reasoning for gear should never be "why shouldn't I have this thing" but "why should I have this thing". Space on a carrier is at a premium. On deployment it was common to see various soldiers carrying small blades for different reasons. Almost everyone in my unit kept a medium sized knife on the carrier because we actually regularly used it for niche reasons. If you find yourself not needing a knife in a hurry don't put it on a carrier. >Finally, are there any Camelbaks that can attach right to the carrier?Yes. MOLLE camelbaks or hydration pouches. Take your pick.
>>64129713>Why? You seem really new and I want to make sure your reasoning is soundBecause the one I have now is Velcro and I don't like it. It's loud, annoying, gets worse over time, etc. If I pull the bottom flap from the wrong side, it'll start lifting off the other side of the cummerbund.>What carrier do you have?Condor Modular operator gen II.
>>64129753Condor is pretty shit. It's ok for small pouches and stuff, but just because the carrier sucks it is not representative of better carriers with better stitching and materials. All Velcro makes noise when you pull it apart of course, but so what? If you're taking a carrier off you shouldn't be in ninjamode. You can cheap out on some stuff like pouches, but a carrier is something to put a little more money into.
>>64129753And if you want me to be more specific, yes I've bought a Condor chest rig for lulz and even then I couldn't stand to keep it because that mesh and padding these use it awful and chafes. I know firsthand how bad their Velcro and materials are as well. A plate carrier from a reasonably trusted company will be a far different experience.
>>64129825I'm no richfagb by any means. Is there a rough price where they start being not shitty?I think I saw a buying guide on here before too.>>64129836Forgot to ask about side plates too.Yea? Nay? I've hardly seen people mention them.
>>64130189There's barebones options about $100. If you want MOLLE and all that, Beez makes carriers (with tubes instead of Velcro even) for $200. Mayflower makes a MOLLE carrier that's $150. Lots of options in that range. Yeah sure if you can get your hands on side plates and properly fitted pouches for them sure.
Once that $0 tax stamp thing goes into effect, is there any downside to "manufacturing" oil filter suppressors?
>>641244351 moa at 100 yards will be a group that measures 1.047 inches. Measurements are taken from the centers of the bullet strikes not the outside edge. You will know how many clicks of adjustment you need as the optic will say right on the adjustment housing or face plate or in the instructions. And your targets will tell you what fraction of an inch each square is.
>>64130442The process doesn't change, so you still need a stamp for it before you make it, if you care about your dogs.
>>64130465You're technically correct, but outside of dedicated long range autismos, who doesn't just round an MOA to an inch at 100 yards?

Alright, so hypothetically if someone acquired a 20mm vulcan barrel at a yard sale that was demilled in such a way that 99% of it was still usable and that person were turning it into a black powder muzzle loading anti-armor rifle based on the NTW-20's form factor and some shitty online calculators put the recoil around 65 foot pounds and 9 ft/s if the gun comes out weighing 50 pounds (not taking into account any recoil mitigation mechanisms that the person may have in mind) exactly how bad would that be to shoot? There may be a car/truck shock absorber planned to be involved to mitigate some of it but it would be good to know how manageable something like that would be to shoot.
There's a gun I want, but it's banned in my home state. There are exemptions for law enforcement. Does that mean all law enforcement employees, or just active policemen?

why is 44 mag considered a fine brown bear caliber and 223 is not despite generating as I understand it, a similar amount of energy and power?is it bullet weight, fuddlore, or a matter of the platforms they're available in?
>>64140163Penetration is a factor. 223 is going to yaw and deform on impact, whereas 44 has a lot more mass on the core and can get through hide/flesh/bone a bit better. That said, 44 is not recommended for hunting bear, but defending yourself from one. That is a very different thing. The objective of a hunting caliber is to K.O. the animal quickly and humanely. The objective of a defensive caliber is to get that animal off of you, with a humane kill being a distant secondary consideration. 223 is going to be impractical for a handgun (either the barrel is too long or has not enough velocity), whereas 44 is. >>64139734Apparently it exists, but I have no idea if it is effective. Seems like a gimmick.https://miculek.com/products/miculek-magnetic-buffer-system>>64139782Legalities notwithstanding, should be a matter of cutting and re-crowning. Removing the barrel first is going to make doing this easier and more precise, but in either case I recommend waiting for next year when the SBR tax stamp is free (or gone altogether) and consulting with a gunsmith.
>>64125884Had the exact same issue the other day when installing my SS, I was raging for 2 hours trying get the damn thing in, then like magic, it went. I was almost more pissed about that because I still haven't figured out how it finally went in.

>>64140163For self-defense, the platform is most of it. The things .44mag comes in are faster, handier, and less likely to snag in the couple of seconds you have to react to a big bear or cougar deciding to fuck you up. Animals almost always attack you from the rear quarter if they're actively trying to kill you. Try unslinging an AR while you're humping a pack, spinning 150 degrees in either direction, and getting a couple clean shots off. It sucks ass. .44mag is the hottest round you can reliably and cleanly shoot out of a pistol, which is why people recommend it.It's also a lot easier to say "yes, this is just for defensive purposes, I'm not a poacher" to the game warden/park ranger when you're carrying a pistol or a shotgun than a rifle. FWIW the one actual animal self-defense incident my family has had in 50-odd years was a wounded cougar trying to drag off one of the kids, my aunt drilled it with her .357. Bears are usually smart enough to fuck off if you pull a gun and yell when they start displayingFor hunting? Quite a few states don't allow hunting large game with .223, either because it's a necked cartridge, strict mag limits on hunting rifles, and/or because it's less than thirty-caliber. On the commie side of the Rockies where I live you need something you can reliably take an animal with at several hundred yards, and both calibers are more useful for short-range stalking than long shots.
I want to take classes for hand to hand combat/self defense. Are there any particular things to look for when searching for a class? Any tips?
I'm long overdue on getting a decent belt that won't bend with shit on it.Will a duty belt fit the belt loops on regular pants or are they taller than normal belts?

>>64124435Is there a word for this body armor thing that I'm looking for? What I'm thinking of is basically the modern equivalent of an arming doublet with mail voiders - a vest with soft armor around the sides and edges, but just fabric on the center of the chest and back, with the point being that you'd wear it in conjunction with a hard plate, so it's unnecessary to have soft armor in those spots.
>>64141018"Duty" belts are unlikely to fit regular pants, they're usually 2" (give or take). Not even cops wear pants where they actually fit the loops - they have a normal-sized inner belt (a "garrison" belt), then the duty belt is wrapped around it and secured using belt keepers and/or velcro. You'll probably have an easier time finding what you're looking for using the phrase "reinforced gun belt".

Are flintlock muskets as fun to shoot as it looks?
>>64124435Hey /k/, forgive my probably dumbass question but -If you took your average first world private(or equivalent), gave them whatever automatic-capable rifle they're comfortable with (so m4a1, ak74, famas, fuckin... g11, you get it) and told them to hit a man-sized target at 50m(150ft) - How many shots do you think they'd hit, and how many of those would be on target enough to be lethal?I'm trying to figure out a baseline accuracy ratio for a turn based strategy game project, but I'm no expert on guns. If it helps, assume they get 30 rounds and 10 seconds to shoot, both shooter and target are stationary.
>>64141846You need to base this on what makes logical sense for the game, not how war actually works. You'll get different numbers depending on exactly what source you read, but people estimate that during WWII anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 bullets were fired for every single soldier that died. Clearly that's not any fun for gaming purposes.
>>64140163>a similar amount of energy and power? That alone doesn't mean much. You can read an old gun book like W. W. Greener's The Gun and its Development, or a modern book like Ammo & Ballistics by Bob Forker and they both say the exact same thing: since guns have been invented people have tried to come up with one number that can measure the killing power of a gun so that different guns/calibers can be compared, but it's just not possible. Energy, velocity, bullet mass, bullet size, bullet construction, etc, all matter. There is no one thing that measures all of it. People have even tried to invent their own things, like "power factor", "Taylor KO Factor", etc, but that doesn't tell the whole story either.Generally speaking .223 is frowned upon for shooting larger game because it often doesn't penetrate deep enough to hit vitals, and when it does it tends to make a small wound. A lot of people even consider it unethical for smaller game like deer. I'd argue that's getting into fuddlore territory but .223 has awfully light bullets to go shooting large game.
>>64141857Well the game is less about gun vs gun and more gun vs monster, which is why I'm asking about a maybe weird target shooting situation. My total guess for gameplay purposes would be a maybe 75% chance (before taking modifiers like movement, equipment, effects(buffs/nerfs) etc into account) for a snap-shot burst of fire to actually hit the target. I'd just want some sort of basis in reality so it's not ridiculously inaccurate or accurate shit (like pic rel), you know?
Is it possible for an average sized man to AIWB a full size like a 92FS?
>>64142279Easily, but it'll be clunky as fuck.>>64141919They'd hit 100% of their shots on a stationary man-size 50m target on a shooting range, but in combat the hit rate is determined more by fatigue, stress, movement, vision, and cover than marksmanship skills. If they're trying to hit a hand and face poking around a corner shooting at them, getting charged by a weird monster or haven't slept in 30 hours and are shooting at someone running across a dark hallway with sweat in their eyes - those are the big factors to model. I'd use lots of short-duration debuffs.
>>64142279You can, but it will be very difficult to find the motivation to consistently do it.
>>64141857>but people estimate that during WWII anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 bullets were fired for every single soldier that died. Every one of these stats I see quoted includes rounds fired in training. Which if you're trying to figure out the percentage of rounds hitting in combat makes the number useless.
>>64141345Such a thing makes very little sense to produce given the existence of BALCS soft cut armor vests with the ability to add a plate or to wear it without the plate for soft armor only protection. Making a soft armor vest that only protects the torso when a plate is worn is dumb. The weight savings from making a SAPI sized hole in the soft armor aren't very appealing given the problems it causes.
>>64141919I hate how people get autistic about these screenshots on XCOM hit chances. The graphics are a somewhat abstracted turn based representation. People who are like "muh realism" when complaining about hit chances conveniently ignore that an alien in melee distance swiping at a person might create some weapon inaccuracy.
>>64142433>makes the number useless. Not entirely. Even if some massive amount of that ammo was training, say we be extra generous and say half was training, it's still an absurdly skewed ratio. Hell you could even say 99% of it was training, which is beyond ludicrous, and that's still an absurd number of shots per hit. Do we know exactly how many shots it takes per kill? No. But can certainly say that the real life numbers aren't worth paying attention to and anon should choose what makes sense for his game instead. It doesn't matter how "realistic" the numbers are, the fact is that if it's too easy to hit or too hard to hit according vs. the players expectation then the game won't be any fun. That's what anon should be worried about, not real-life statistics.
>>64142312That's fair. Guess I'll just rely on what feels right in terms of gameplay to dial in the base hit chance and go from there.>>64142472It's mostly just because it's funny, man. Sometimes the graphical representation doesn't really match what the numbers say - like when the bullet fx passes clean through a target's head and they dodge a second later.Though that is something I'm going to at least try to avoid, assuming i can get things off the ground halfway decently.
I had a dream last night: A .45ACP, short recoil toggle locked pistol with a fixed barrel which is able to mount a reflex style suppressor over the barrel. The lock can be manually forced to stay closed with a switch like the original MK23.Would this be a good design for a purpose built pistol able to be extremely quiet and relatively concealable? The fixed barrel and reflex suppressor means the suppressed pistol won't be much longer than unsuppressed. The toggle lock with manual forced locking optionally keeps it very quiet and even unforced it has less mass moving around than a browning style design. Is this is a design that would theoretically work?
>>64142755It would be quieter if you used a smaller subsonic cartridge.Toggle lock takes up a lot of room, this would necissarily be larger than a typical browning-style pistol. It would work but it's kind of a silly mechanism if your goal is to make it as concealable as possible.
I know you can't own a 93, but do these little doohickeys exist for the 92?
>>64142934The flip-down grip for the 93R is built into an integral part of the 93R's frame. Look more closely at the trigger guard and the locking mechanism. You'd have design an attachment for a railed 92 to get it look close enough, or weld extra shit to the frame in a very, very bad place. And it'll still be an SBR when you're done, the thing on the 93 is explicitly a "fore-grip". At that point you might as well replicate the stock for it, too, it'll be the same tax stamp. Not saying you can't do it yourself, but the only commercial "conversion" stuff on the market right now is a modified frame for a blank-firing replica of the 92
>>64140210Thanks for the advice Wumbo. Definitely waiting for next year.
>>64142455I don't think of it as "a soft armor vest that only protects the torso when a plate is worn", I think of it as "additional protection for a plate carrier that covers un-plated areas".It's not really about weight, I hate the feeling of soft armor (clammy, itchy) against my chest/back, whereas I never have that issue with a plate - I can wear it all day without hating my life.
>>64143728What kind of soft armor? Safariland is for example much thinner and less puffy than USGI despite being rated the same. BALCS gives the extra protection to unplated areas when a plate is worn, and gives full torso protection still when it is not. That is more versatile than soft armor with a hole in the torso.
>>64143728SAPI and ESAPI were ICW rated, meaning even military guys in plate carriers were issued soft plate backers. If the feeling of armor behind a plate is too bothersome for you, it is unironically a skill issue.

For as much emphasis as there is on ensuring you only get 1 shot per "trigger action", aren't there a lot of ways to make that happen?Setting aside the obvious (shotshells, binary triggers, volley guns, etc.), there are still others:>multiple trigger actions in advance, stored and activated by the movement of the trigger-shaped safety>spring-tension trigger (the further back the trigger goes, the more "actions" the trigger takes)>automatic triggers (let the gun decide) which pull themselves as they fireWould the law apply to these also?
>>64148261>multiple trigger actions in advance, stored and activated by the movement of the trigger-shaped safetyAlready ruled a machine gun, the final action fires multiple shots and is therefore firing a burst. >spring-tension trigger (the further back the trigger goes, the more "actions" the trigger takes)If you can pull it to the wall in one go and it fires more than one shot, it's a machine gun. Now, having several *physical triggers*, each with their own firing mechanism, is still legal (see: many double and triple-barreled guns). But also a fucking nightmare >automatic triggers (let the gun decide) which pull themselves as they fireWhatever action you take to tell the gun to start shooting is the trigger pull. If the gun randomly decides to take 1d5 shots based on checking the 6th significant digit of its internal clock, it can still fire multiple shots per manual trigger action and is a machine gun.TL:DR you are not as clever as you think you are. Stop it.
>>64148546Obviously, it's not a matter of cleverness if they can just Rule 0 everything with the "machine gun" label. >Whatever action you take to tell the gun to start shooting is the trigger pull>it can still fire multiple shots per manual trigger actionAnd if the gun maintains a 1:1 ratio of shots to trigger actions? What then?
I want a cheap holographic sight. Is the 512 a decent pick?
I just bought a Winchester Model 37 for $175 in really good condition, real nice bluing and wood. Part of the reason I wanted a single shot shotgun though was to perhaps chop it down for shits and giggles, but this almost seems too nice of an older piece to do so. Should I blow another $125 on another cheap single shot to cut down? I have the money to blow. I know this a stupid question that really only I can decide on but I ask anyway because I am a faggot who can't make his own decision oftentimes.
>>64124435at 100 yards, 1 minute of arc is about 1 inch. at 200 yards, it is 2 inches. keep going for other ranges.so find out how many moa there are per click, (usually 0.25 moa per click) get a target that has 1 inch grid lines, and go to town.
>>64149220You have the same mind as I do, anon, lol. I have some guns I bought because I wanted to maybe hunt with them and decided against it because they were just too fucking nice for their age. Not sure what your gun is like but perhaps keep an eye out for a spare barrel. Being a brand name you're much more likely to run across another and even if not I have put a Stevens barrel on a generic mass produced (rebranded) shotgun made for a store. No clue what the brand on that shotgun is (that seems lost to history, genuinely) but the Stevens barrel dropped right on the department store gun and seems to be in the range of correctly fitted. Never shot it and I'd highly advise getting that shit checked by a gunsmith but it seems some barrels are more or less a copy of the exact same pattern....Or do what I do and wait for an actual beater to come up for next to nothing (gun auctions...holy shit the prices sometimes are peanuts for offbrand shit) and get that chopped. I have an old 22 that will cost me more than the gun's value to repair but it being in the condition it is means I don't have to feel bad threading it or dragging it through the woods even though it's a ~1930s-1940s (?) gun. Oh and while everygunpart can be pretty pricey it is a good source of barrels and stocks and shit.
>>64149469Sometimes you just come across some real nice dark wood and blued steel and you gotta cop, even if it doesn't fit what you wanna do with it, be it chopping it or hunting. I dunno about finding a spare barrel, will probably just pick up another beater for what is practically peanuts, of which I'd already found prior to coming across this nicer gun.
Where's a good place to hide a pistol in a Honda Civic that's accessible to the driver? Or a place I can keep it when I'm not in the car and then transfer it to the center console when I go to drive. I live in the state with the lowest crime rate in the country btw. Haven't driven in a few months but the last time I did some drunk cunt slammed into another car and sent it across the line and into the side of me. I was struggling to find my glasses and dazed when the guy from the other car came out screaming at me and thought I was the one who hit into him and not the drunk cunt. Not quite ready to conceal carry with one in the chamber but I don't want to be in a situation where I'm at the mercy of some angry asshole or road raging dickhead so I got myself a Glock 26
I have a question. Why no cartridges with a square (squircle) cross section? I don’t mean “why are cartridges cylindrical”, I’m more interested in why I’ve never seen one in the myriad weird and unconventional experimental cartridge types (like picrel). I get that cylinders can feed in any orientation and can double stack/double feed nicely, but is this rotational symmetry just a law of firearms or something? Or Is it just that there’s no need to deviate from a cylinder, or engineering hurdles that are a pain in the ass to tackle?Reason for my question: a rounded square (corner radius = 1/4th the case diameter) increases case capacity by ~20% over a cylindrical case of equal diameter and length. This can come in handy if there are severe dimensional constraints on the cartridge, like if it going to feed through the grip. It can also be used to shrink the case head diameter and increase mag capacity (albeit only slightly) without affecting case capacity.

People often cite the M14 as having the shortest life as a standard issue service rifle in the US military, but wouldn't that distinction actually go to the M16 or am I autistic?
>>64156823>>64156779>>64156536>>64154941>Headrest safeThe year and model of your vehicle matters, as the fabrics tend to match the colors and feel of newer cars (so no 1990s beaters or earlier). I installed one on a 2018 Dodge, and it is barely passable. Looks bulky, but anyone in a hurry will ignore it. Don't rely on it being a headrest for an accident either as the padding for the safe-rest is thinner than the companion headrest, and may not be DOT rated for accident injury mitigation.YMMV as anyone seeing you put a gun in the safe will know to cut the rods and take it (there is a common flipout washer that is designed to go into your seat and never come back out to retain the headrest on that seat). It's handy, but a better idea is to locate a trusted body shop dude to make some Han Solo smuggling pockets in your car and use those instead. Just my 2 cents.
>>64159184Not counting revisions. M16 became the A1, then the A2 and A3, now the A4 and if you include the M4 Carbine as a variant then the system has remained plenty successful indeed.M14 by contrast did have revisions, but got eclipsed by the M16 as the primary service rifle pretty quickly. It remained in use afterwards for decades, but as either a secondary alternative or in more specialized roles.Either way I think the statement that the M14 is the shortest serving or least successful US military rifle is questionable considering the Krag Jorgensen which was the standard rifle for longer, but got fully withdrawn from inventory much faster.>>64158854I think it's a very different weapon system since it is a PCC.

What are some pistols that can feed .45 Super without exploding or having parts wear out in short order?
>>64160347That sounds like an OOB/case rupture waiting to happen as the barrel shifts forward. Is the screw stuck or could you work it out? If you can work the screw out you might be able to find a similar screw at a hardware store or Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply and get it up and running quick. Just take the barrel in and start trying screws. Might be able to find the thread pitch and size online and make your search quicker. Also not a bad reason to find a used 10/22 and have a spare. Even just a spare action (Volquartsen has $65 stripped receivers) and barrel (see: gun/hunting related show as they do pop up rarely) on hand could be nice; the guts can be swapped right in.

>>64162725>Is the screw stuck or could you work it out? Worse, ive ruined the thread in the screw hole. Some genius had the great idea to make it of weaker material than the screw itself i guess.Forgot to mention im an eurofag, so buying spares aint really an realistic option
>>64163546It's called drilling it out and replacing it with a helicoil. If they don't have helicoil in Europe it's a threaded steel insert. If you ziptie it your going to lose that comp as the zero constantly wanders.
>>64163546>EurobroOoooohhhhh, yeah just skip that comp or use a loaner if possible. Ideally a gunsmith would ream that hole wider on a mill or press (to keep the hole from getting canted unlike, say, if it were done by hand) and use a helicoil in the hole to make it good again. Was it single screw hole or both? I'm assuming non-takedown. Ruger really doesn't have numbers posted for barrel clamp torque but IIRC some were suggesting in the 10-20 INCH pound range. Not foot pound, INCH pound. No clue what that is in metric. The receiver is also aluminum so don't go nuts with the rail screw holes. I forget what the recommendation for that was but that was a lot easier to find when I put my 10/22 together last year. Those are also easy to strip out. I use a Wheeler FAT wrench to make sure my screws are torqued to the right inch pound rating. Barrel clamp, rail screws, ring screws (both rail clamp and ring), stock screw, barrel band screw, it all gets torqued to a specific value. Thanks to my gunsmith fucking up a job I could've stumbled my way through if I had his equipment I can take a look at my gun as it's already in pieces. I have the torques at:>Stock screw (bottom): 15 inch pounds>Barrel clamp screws: 15 inch pounds>(aftermarket) Barrel band screw: 15 inch pounds>Scope rail screws: ??? (weaver might have this in their instruction manual?)>scope ring screws: Do as YOUR manufacturer recommends. Mine (Leupold) is 15 on the clamp and surprisingly 25 on the ring clamp to hold the scope. That's surprisingly high considering they're also aluminum AFAIK.So 15 in lb is not a bad bet on most screws including the barrel clamp. Maybe like 20 max. Only thing I ran into was that it was near impossible to use the damn thing because of the location of those screws. Had to basically get it started, tighten most of the way, and use the wrench to get the rest of the way there, then a light turn after.
>>64163546Actually I'd check whether you have to drill the hole out or not. Helicoil might just screw right into the stripped hole (no drilling or boring) and if you can find one at a local hardware store and quick read the instructions and install it, you may be able to fix it in time for the comp if they allow a zero check beforehand. Can't say I remember what prep you may need before installation; might not even need a smith. If that doesn't work you could go up to the next screw size (and even make both metric lol) but they're a hell of a tight fit as-is. I'm sure you played the screw depth+clamp position dance trying to get the barrel on and off too.
>>64163596>>64163627>>64163639Yeah, ended up borrowing my friend tippmann. >>64170298Honestly, if youre bored of the vz61 why not?Selling a gun youve gotta subtract gunbroker fees, shipping from what you can sell it for. So, vz61 is probably worth more but if you sold it then bought an SKS doubt youd have any cash left. >>64179240>Is the AP5 decent enough as a range toy? It's about as good as non-HK gets with few caveats - those being the HK is best and the PTR is ready to go out the box with a HK auto sear. The MAC is range toy quality and probably the worst MP5 on the market currently.>And if so, does the MP5 FRT work reliably with it?It's the super safety, and it requires an AR trigger component compatible lower in order to work - examples include the Lee Sporting, AS Designs metal, and the Leber V2
>>64185231NTA but, the MP5 auto sear is not considered a machine gun on its own right? Meaning its fine to own without any paperwork and totally keep separate from a firearm?
>>64157802some vietnam boomer basement
>>64184121Definitely start with irons. It'll be a steeper learning curve, but you'll build up the fundamentals that will allow you to use a dot or magnified optic far more effectively. If you go straight to dot you might get to a decent degree of proficiency faster, but it'll be a crutch. You won't shoot well without one. It'll be harder to go back and un-learn bad habits in order to master iron sights than if you start from there in the first place.>>64185584No, HK autosears are considered matchine guns by themselves. They are frequently sold as transferable pre 1986 machine guns for tens of thousands of dollars.Even if the parts are kept separately, NFA has a constructive possession element. Having the parts necessary on hand to easily create an unregistered NFA item can be enough for a charge that can stick, although the exact line of what is/isn't allowed is (intentionally) very vague. In short, don't fuck with this unless you want to accept that risk.
>>64187771Aren't the trigger packs from HKP unregulated? They're like $300 something
>>64188825Yes, but only on the count of the fact that they don't fit on semi auto receivers. The regulated auto seats allow for conversion of semi auto HK pattern to full auto. This is like having one of the Glock conversion switches. Because they are intended to make a semi automatic firearm full auto they are regulated in and of themselves.Having an original full auto trigger pack and a semi auto HK pattern rifle is fine because it wouldn't work anyway.
>>64124435What difference does it make if you have a full power cartridge going from a short barrel, to a reduced charge cartridge going from a longer barrel.I kinda forgot the question, but I was wondering why muh soc uses things like the Mk.48?Sure a short barreled full power cartridge has more energy, but why bother with all the extra muzzle blast for half a pound of weight at most? This is not about subsonics of course. Also, I was to lazy to read the Wiki and wanted to hear an answer from you.
>>64189714The Mk48 has a 19.75 inch barrel, which is perfectly long enough to be taking advantage of 7.62. It's not like there are significantly longer 5.56mm options. The long barrel SAW is .75 inches longer, which in practical sense makes it the same length. For your context, the MK48 barrel is only 4 inches shorter than the standard M240 barrel, and it is the same as the short barrel for the M240. So, from approximately 20 inch barrels for both you can compare 5.56mm and 7.62 machineguns, and you've got obviously better cover penetration with the 7.62. You've also got longer effective terminal ballistics, though with something as lightweight as a MK48 I think the emphasis on something more portable than super steady at ranges beyond what 5.56mm can kill. Not totally discounting the ballistic range increase though. I deployed and embedded with guys who had MK48s to replace their M240s and they absolutely loved them. The barrier defeat of 7.62 was the same as what the M240 gave but in a package about 10 pounds lighter, which for machinegun guys was very appreciated.
>>64189853Thank you!
So these AUG NATO 9mm kits use the ejector on the magwell adapter, or the ejector on the trigger pack? The product image shows both...https://steyr-arms.us/shop/nato-aug-a3-9x19mm-kak-colt-magazine-kit-110-twist-rate/
how am I supposed to get this gay little pin out of this DPM bolt carrier? it's like a solid pin and it's not a through-hole
>>64124435I have a question for someone with a bit of engineering knowledge. Glock mags were designed to go into Glock grips to feed the gun (duh). How is it that guns like the Ruger RXM and 2011 guns that take Glock mags can feed reliably with such a different grip angle?
>>64190669The magwell is still the same angle. The external form isnt it has extra plastic in different areas.
Why do people use risers for everything? Just saw a video of a guy using a glock chassis with an ACOG on a unity riser. I get it if you're using one for night vision, but wouldn't lower = better? And a second question for anyone with a glock chassis: should I go for a Recover tactical or B&T
>>64191566NV, gas masks or because they think its drippyits hard to drop your head into a shouldered weapon with NVs because you cant just look up with your eyes, you have to keep your head upright so the NVs look forward>acog on a glockmight just be a retard
I'm 3D modeling cartridges in Blender so as to get proper proportions when creating guns in the program.Do the dimensions seem right, does anything jump out to you? I did research and think I got them right but it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion if necessary, just to be sure
>>64188825What Wumbo touched on but didn't fully explain is that there's basically two different ways to have a full-giggle H&K.The first method is the "registered receiver". This is where the gun itself is a registered machine gun, and at that point you can freely interchange trigger packs, like those from HKP. These don't fit normal semi HKs. The advantage of this if if your trigger pack wears out you can simply buy a new one for not a whole lot of money. You can also play around with swapping different kinds of trigger packs in your gun if you like that kind of thing. The other method is where the trigger pack itself is legally the "machine gun". That is what is commonly referred to as an "auto sear". The advantage of this system is that you can own multiple HK weapons and move the trigger pack between them, the same way you might own one AR lower and a bunch of uppers. But these cost $10's of thousands like most transferable MGs.
>>64192887scale looks good but something about the transition where the bullet goes into the case looks wrong on some of them. like the wallthickness on certain rounds like the 762,556 or that darkness. not majorly wrong if it was a videogame nobody would notice or care.
>>64192933to elaborate theres a little bit of rounding where the bullet meets the cartridge and yours are sharp
>>64192887Some of the rims look a little thick. That's probably an optical illusion because there's no radii on the rims>>64192933Yeah, the 7.62 specifically looks like the bullet might be seated a little deep.
>>64192946Crimp. It's called a crimp anon.
>>64192933Thank you for your input anon, yeah these cartridges are a little simplified compared to their real life counterparts, since these boolets will indeed be for a game they are a bit low poly to save up on performance, hence the sharp edges as you rightfully pointed out, so I chose to forego that bit of rounding>wall thickness on 762 and 556Oh yeah you're right it is indeed a bit too thick there, especially the 762, I'll make it thinner there
Does anyone have that one video where some guys using a riser on his AR and its like, a foot or more tall? He's hip firing and making hits. Best part was when he reloaded, he had some mags in pouches on his belt and lowered the entire gun onto it
>>64193034its probably this guyhttps://www.youtube.com/shorts/Pv-Gsq22X5Ebut im not going through all his shit to find it.i remember him lowering the whole gun onto his chestrig in one of his videos.
I hate the little leaf sights on my .22s, which would be more fun for plinking, upgrading to scopes or to peep sights? Kinda worried scopes would take the challenge out of shooting (never used one before so idk)
>>64194336scopes are nice, if you want challenge you can just shoot farther.
>>64193626Looked through all his shorts and insta posts, different guy
>>64194361If it was a white guy maybe polenar
>>64194336Scope. Like the other anon said if you want more challenge you can shoot farther or shoot faster. The nice thing about the scope is that it makes it easier to hit when precision matters, like if you decide to go hunting or have to deal with a pest animal.
>>64193034Honestly the only video I can think of is when MDT made a massive-ass riser for their bolt action.>>64194336Shooting at 100yds I'm starting to make pretty good groups with 22LR with a 3-9 (maybe even good enough for hunting groundhogs). At 200, my groups are still good enough for steel plates but not good enough for paper or hunting. Depends on your distance. Having a good scope and hashmarks for drop helps a lot but I can still hit that same plate with iron sights on a 22 nearly 100 years old FWIW. Scope just lets you see what the fuck you're even shooting at more effectively (and maybe even see holes on paper), which is nice. It also lets you see bullet splashes on dirt if your range actually keeps the berm free of grass. A bad rail, set of rings, or scope takes all the fun out of shooting with a scope, though, so don't go super cheap. I like my $300 Leupold FWIW and I won't stop recommending them. There are cheaper options, however, but the reliability of my scope has eliminated a lot of doubts I may have otherwise had when changing out parts or having a day where I shoot like shit. I don't have any doubts about the scope or mount now and it's a lot easier to know when it's definitely either me or something I changed.
are there any firearms which have the trigger above the barrel?
>>64196102...but why tho? One that comes to mind is that P90 prototype.
>>64195892Those Leupolds are a good rec, not just because they are durable, but because you can actually trust what the adjustments do.I had cheapo Burris 3-9 on my 22 for years. I mounted it in good rings and it kept zero just fine, even bounced around in the back of a pickup or carried on a 4-wheeler. However, if you adjusted it ten clicks up and then ten clicks back down you would NOT end up at the same position. Dialing in holdovers for elevation or windage was useless so I basically had to shoot with kentucky windage the whole time. That is not a problem with the Leupold.Bad rings are a curse. I bitch about them specifically because a lot of cheap scopes, while not great, are made far worse because of shitty rings.
PSA has the CompM4 for $800 this weekend, anybody seen a better price?
Absolutely retarted question here.Bought a bdc reticle that isn't calibrated for my gun/ammo (primary arms cqb md25 red dot). My question is can I zero and then from zero just shoot targets at my zero range with the different bdc holds. then measure the difference from hold to impacts on paper. Then take those measurements reverse them and compare them to my ballistic chart (I have a crono and know the bc of the bullet) to get the exact yardage for the bdc holds?> Primary arms information for the bdc is like 5 different calibers that they don't list barrel lengths or velocity's for so I'm having trouble getting a ballistic cart to compare too.
>>64198356manually calculating was what you did before so the idea is sound.you should be able to get close enough then have to actually try it out.like oh i think this line is 345m then its actually 337m
>>64198356That sounds like a reasonable starting point but I suspect you'll need to do a lot of guess-and-check shooting at various distances in the end.
>>64198794>>64198931Thanks, I'm planning on doing some testing at range to test. I really doubt bullet companies list a proper bc for the bullets anyway (probably the most optimistic one) so I'm guessing more drop than the charts list. But hey if it can drop it in +/- 2in or so at different holds I'm happy.Setup is (cucked straight wall only hunting state)> Henry big boy steel> Primary arms 25 bdc reticle > Trijicon 3x magnifier> 45 colt Ruger only loads> 1670 fps> Barnes xpb 225 grain bc of .146> 25 yard zero> Yes I know it's a disgusting setup bordering on heresy
>>64198356You'll have to try different zeroing ranges give you that measurement at your known distance but it should work.
>>64198356Yes, you could do all that. The question is why? Having to memorize or look up DOPE for every shot defeats the point of a BDC in the first place. Also, here you're talking about hair-splitting accuracy, yet in >>64199115 you mention you're OK with +/-2in? At the ranges you're going to be shooting at you are overthinking things. You probably won't need the BDC at all. Zero the dot at 75 yards and you've got a dead-on hold for anything from 50 to 100 yards.
Anyone know any good recommendations for a harness type sling for a Savage 99?Looking around most of the stuff I find are made for older cowboy lever guns, and require a tube for the front mount point.
>>64201136If you're shooting with an optic you can just put the strap around the barrel instead of around the mag tube. Otherwise install a sling loop on the barrel or the forend first and then attach the sling to that.
Redpill me on .22-250 Remington
>>64124435why do people say learning how to shoot rifles is easier than pistols?pistols you can naturally hold out in front of you, rifles you have to twist yourself into a ball just to see through the sights
>>64202862>Redpill me on .22-250 RemingtonFast boy shoots super fast and super flat.>>64203071Having more points of contact that are spread apart is better than having fewer points of contact on the same part of the gun.
