lay the mag flat on a table, get a rubber hammer and give it a smackeroo, try and make it a little skinnier. It might be a 9 round mag after that but it'll shut the fuck up.

What torque did you all use on your optics screws?
Did you scrub the threads off with acetone and reapply your own threadlocker?

Usually hand tight with a tool, but otherwise 15 inch pounds for 4-40 and 30 for 6-32. With VC-3 Vibratite, following the instructions, if you use any other thread locker you might be retarded.

I must know. Is it true?
>>
>>64291901
/k/ shoots? Next thing you're going to tell me is that /v/ plays videogames
>>
>>64291920
Probably. But only if your loading with the right powder…. 45-70 is usually not loaded for a shorter barrel, but if you pick the right powder you could probably do it.. I was getting 2600 ish out of 375 gn loaded 500 bushwacker out of a 10 inch barrel…. And when I was playing around with 444 marlin in my lone eagle I was getting 505 gn hardcasts up at 1650 and 300 gn jacketed sierras at 2000 out of a 14 inch barrel…. 45-70 has a lot of capacity for it caliber and if you have a stronger newer action you can take advantage of that in a way the trapdoor rifles can’t.
>>
>>64291955
My mind isn't straight right now.

Lever-actions aren't viable truck guns, right? It has to be a semi-auto.

>viable truck gun
How much $ would you lose if someone stole it out if your truck to rob a 7/11?
Thats what it comes down to imo and a 45-70 lever gun isn't cheap
>>
>>64292003
I wish anon. I love big bore stuff, but unless you can tell me you honestly expect to need to deal with something 45-70 is required to handle…. Then I’d say your better off getting a beater AR that won’t be the end of the world if stolen, and won’t piss you off if you have to use it and the local sheriff locks it up in the pokey pending investigation.. also unless you planned on reloading for it you can afford to practice with an ar a lot more…. Or really just about any common military chambered rifle if ar’s aren’t to your flavor…
>>
>>64292003
Truck gun, something compact, semi-auto, and cheap. It's the most likely gun to get stolen, so you're literally better off with a full size 10mm Glock with a dot than a $5700 gucci suppressed SBR or a $4,000 staccato. No, you don't want a fucking $2,000 lever gun as a truck gun, which will be tough to maneuver and maybe difficult to cock in the confined quarters of your vehicle if you have to shoot out.
>>
>>64291954

See, I actually don't know how to model this.
I've never shot anyone, so I don't know what's actually needed to beat an assailant who does even basic preparation by getting any kind of plate.
>>64292068
This is the gun seeping into every cranny of my brain. Two feet long, 13" barrel, only ~$1000 online. Same price as the AR-like I was looking at.
Same verdict?
>>
>>64292098
Sadly the low skill answer is going to be “30 round mags and occasional practice will overcome armor better than buying a fuckhuge lever gun you shoot once in a while”. If you can get rounds on target and keep doing so they’re not gonna magically tank it while effectively shooting back.
>>
>>64292112
Assuming equal amounts of practice for both and a willingness to reload, how does that work out?
>>
>>64292121
Probably about the same at that point, but do you really think you’d practice regularly? Also you still run into the gun being expensive and potentially easily lost to you. Realistically though if you put the time in with any gun your better off than just buying one and not practicing. Maybe try shooting one before you commit to regularly running 50 rounds of 45-70 through something like that…. What’s your actual shooting experience?
>>
>>64292153
>Probably about the same at that point, but do you really think you’d practice regularly?
Do the boresight training tools work for that? I don't think my schedule would vary much in either case, so low amounts of training.
>What’s your actual shooting experience?
Beyond small-caliber pistols, nearly none.

Check the manual, don't assume. Do not go over 15 inch pounds unless specifically directed by the optic manufacturer

MOST specify 12-15 inch pounds. I think only my Deltapoint Micros called for more (25)

Acetone should not affect thread locker, it doesn't do anything to my Loctite. Still have to physically scrub, scrape and brush it off. There's no need to remove factory thread locker, typically you can reuse the pre-cured type a few times at least

Honestly nothing else I can tell you is going to help nearly as much as you going out and trying to shoot a rifle in a non 22lr caliber. There’s a bit of understanding here that you need to experience so you can think about what you want to do and the realities of what you want to use.

I own both a BFR and a bigass cowboy rifle and I can tell you it's a terrible fucking idea. That mares leg is going to hold 3+1, is going to be much harder to control than a revolver OR a guide gun, and is going to be exceptionally unpleasant to practice with. If you want big bore shit for some fantasy plan about needing to shoot through a future astronaut convention get a full size revolver, some speed loaders, and get good.

Nanuk is pretty good and slightly less expensive. Harbor freight Apache cases will be fine for impact resistance, but I doubt their water resistance.
