What are everyone’s thoughts on cutting Kevlar helmets? On one hand, yes you’re potentially compromising the epoxy layers. On the other, as long as it’s adequately sealed in post processing, is it much different than what they’re doing in-house anyways for high cuts?
>>
>>64320680
Hi cuts have a slightly different shape overall. What you’re describing would look closer to a Bradley crewman’s helmet than a regular hi cut
>>
>>64320680
The cutting in house usually occurs before the compression molding and pressing of the shell. They use a different mold / cut for high cuts.
This is a mixed bag area. There's always the risk of compromising the helmet and you don't know unless you shoot it, which you don't want to do. On the other hand, if the cut job is done well in a sanitized environment then damage to the shell should only be localized to the areas you cut. But that's in theory.
I'd suggest playing it safe, not cutting, and getting a second helmet instead.

Thermal has been on my wishlist and will investigate accordingly. Many-thanks! Verdict on the triple panels: horrible. I will turn them into a cape. The mag pouches are groovy. The Buttpack alright. Canteen pouches? Breddy gud. I have to wait for the next shipment for the other pouches. I'm picking up some dpm singles soon. All the colors of the rainbow.

In line with my assumptions as well. Technically should be okay, but then again you're modifying ppe that shouldn't be modified. I does make a comfy bump helmet though,

>The best budget thermal China has ever made, the Un-Nucing of the East, One Leaf!
The Oneleaf is 60hz, <20mK NETD, NUCless 640x512 with laser rangefinder for $1400. The deal is absurdly good for a thermal. Anons suspect money laundering and they're allowed to sell at a loss. Battery life is advertised at 5 hours on a Samsung 30q 3000mAh 18650. This should be 6.6 hours on a Vapcell N40 4000mAh battery, then with a Nestout 15000mAh pack run via USB-C, gets you 31.5 hours. You can DIY a higher-cap battery pack using 3x Vapcell F60s, but the Nestout is rugged and IP67 waterproofed.

Keep in mind if's Chinese pricing and you might get stuck with import duties if you buy direct. Amazon sells the 35mm version for $1.5k, 50mm lens for $1.8k. You can swap the lenses like old Raytheon thermals, and they also sell an aftermarket 75mm lens.

Looks like we've got new digital NV on the horizon. We had the GNG2K, successor to the Nvg3rd, two threads ago, and now we have Binock's attempts at going up against ADNV and Opsin. Introducing the NVG-90 digital NV and BTI-90 thermal. Blurry as shit spec sheets, I know. Must have been viewed by an NVG-10. Anyways.

NVG-90:
>1" CMOS sensor good up to 1100nm, so limited SWIR.
>800x800 detector resolution
>screen resolution is 1280x1440 I think.
>Lux value is 0.00005, which is half the GNG2K or Nvg3rd. This is excellent.
>Frame rate is 40 / 120hz. 120hz beats the GNG2K's 60hz very well.
>45 degree fov.
>1x 18650 / USB-C for power.
This shreds the Nvg3rd / GNG2K on most specs, but it's an upmarket product. People are reporting good results with the Nvg3rd but still a lot of lag, so the 120hz refresh of this NVG-90 will be a huge boost.
BTI-90:
>384x288 sensor.
>50Hz refresh.
>I can't read the NETD.
>Power is also 1x 18650 / USB-C.
This will be over $1k. It's not impressive and just a gradual upgrade from the BTI-10.
>>
>>64321134
It is an entire sheet of triple mag pouches, connected by triple mag pouches. It connects to the flc via the molle attachments by looping just above the neck piece of flc. It is really just a shitposting and I can’t wait to get rid of the damn things so I can buy some menthols instead
>>
>>64321480
Buy some menthols and save up for a Oneleaf, NVG-90, and Night Operators Heat 4.0. Future multispectral budget warrior meta for under $3k - less than a pair of Hesco 4801s.
>>
>>64320594
Are Infiray still meta for an everyman's fusion optic?
>>
>>64321550
Shitposting aside, Infiray's fusion like the Jerry-F is still badass, but $5.7k is not everyman pricing.
On paper, you can way undercut it if you thermal bridge a digital NV (GNG2K is $350) with a cheap thermal mono (HEAT 4.0 - $650) but all components will be massively inferior to proper I2 / 640x512 LWIR overlay. Ultimately you get what you pay for, but the hard advantage of more expensive equipment is slowly eroding.
>>
>>64321501
All in good time. The thermal is the big one. I've got a humble omni tube, but I gotta pickup a new focus ring stop and some wire hangers before it's post worthy.
>>
>>64321567
Okay I think I'll stick with a COTI
>>
>>64321582
All good. No point in switching out the omni for digital NV, at least not for several more years. I agree with focusing on the thermal.
It's remarkable though how fast digital is moving. One year ago the nvg30 was the cope king. Now we're two models past that. Budget thermals are moving even faster. The more you wait the better options you can get.
>>
Any recs for an upgrade for a walker razor? Thinking about getting peltor 500s with gel cups.
>>
>>64321602
That was a consideration when I was in the market for my tube. For the price, digital is hard to beat. In niche cases, I'd argue it's starting to give low tier photonis a run for its money.
>>
>>64321653
Depends on what you want to do with them long term. I have a pair of the 500's with gel cups and they're seriously comfortable. I'd recommend also getting a padded headband cover too. Stock is fine, but I noticed getting a hot spot right where the headband splits in around the 3hr mark. Big plus is rangetunes. I'm not sure if current models are still on AA's. Last I checked, a lot of those were going triples
>>
>>64321661
I agree. Digital is starting to run with G2 night vision and it's only a matter of time before it starts creeping on G3. Yet I'm seeing a lot of digital guys fall into an "upgrade death loop" with how often these things are replaced. NVG-10 to 30 to 50 then Nvg3rd, in just three or four years, gets you halfway to a tube for just a mono setup alone. GNG2K is another $350. Then there's gonna be a 90hz model next year. Year after that, something else. Maybe a 120hz that gets you 60% of the $1k Nvg90 for $400. Rinse and repeat.
These don't hold value worth a shit once the next model comes out, so you can't resell them unless you're willing to take a huge loss. People were dumping Nvg10s for like $70 a little while ago.
But, on the other hand, if you upgrade looped from Nvg10 to Nvg3rd you now have enough digital monoculars for four guys for half the price of a $3k tube. Hate to use sms schizo logic but the point stands. Nvg10 was ass and the 30 is the first Binock worth a damn.
But on the other, other hand, you could just wait until the Nvg30 is old tech, everybody dumps it to scrape together enough change for the 90, and buy like ten for under $1,000. Bino setups for five guys, 2AM pizza runs with the boys in the 02 suburban with the headlights off. Basado.
(Please don't do that there's no way the 40hz nvg30 can cut it driving a car. That's like bringing a pair of Highcom 4SAS4s to Mariupol and expecting them to eat 7N37).

It's in https://imgur.com/a/gq-infographic-emporium-1-00-1lZ5xw6, the "counter-thermal equipment" infographic.

These are a mixed bag. Primarily sold at the consumer level out of Ukraine, it naturally begs the question of why these are being sold by AlmaUkraine on ebay and not going to the troops. They are hot, bulky, and only work for a period of time. Some models work better than others but there isn't a standard testing protocol. Ideally you don't want to look like a "cold" blob either. You want to breaka up your signature to match the environment.
What they do help with is that they make you less visible than the next guy.
>>
Alright anons a very real question:
If you're hiking or standing for long periods, how do you keep your rifle on you?

Slings don't work as a long term solution, carrying it is out, and I've not had much luck with using compression straps to fasten it, but surely there's other ways, right?

Thickness generally doesnt equate to NRR
Thinner ones are less likely to have cutouts because they are thinner (duh)
If you want the highest NRR setup with the least interference with the stock you should run amps+NFMI. Not because they are able to exceed the maximum NRR possible but because any bump on the muffs wont cause a seal to break due to the NFMI. You could accomplish the same by doubling up with like EP3s under your comtacs but you wont be able to hear shit or fuck.

It is easily my fav pack of the several I have. The belt is the best part, next to the frame. Well, that's all there is, except for my rapist whistle. I love this pack and have had it loaded with green mesquite tied down with a rachet strap, overloaded, really. The best corner case was hauling an evap cooler to the roof, also tied with rachet straps. Bulky af, but lighter than the mesquite. >>64328031

The Romanian M74 is cheap and supposedly takes 40mm NATO threads. Don't buy things like the M17, PBF, or other cheek filter masks since they use their own filters that aren't made anymore and are expired. There are also Israeli civilian masks which go for about the same price as the M74.

If you have no money and want a decent mask, get the Israeli civvie masks or an M74. If you can find modern Polish/Russian filters then you can get something like a GP-5, though I'd generally avoid Soviet masks all together since it is hard to find new working filters for them and most are meant for sitting in a dark fallout shelter and not combat.

My actual recommendation would be to save about 100 dollars and get yourself a nice M40 or other US mask like the MCU-2/p
>>
>>64330731
i was looking at the m10m made from hungary. it supposedly takes 40mm threads but the triangle filters look unique does that mean they arent the 40mm universal threads?

>et yourself a nice M40 or other US mask like the MCU-2/p

this was first hit on google are these a good buy?https://awsin.com/t054-m40-series-gas-mask-random-pick/

https://awsin.com/t055-mcu-2-p-and-2-ap-gas-mask-random-pick/

and is there any downside to getting the second one because it looks a lot better since it has more visibility
>>
>>64330849
>M10M
It's a clone of the M17, that is the exact thing you ought to avoid. They suck because
1. Obsolete design
2. No more filter production
3. pain in the dick to change filters
4. You can't change filters in a contaminated environment.

I've tangled with an M17 before and it was horrible. Those masks don't accept anything except the porkchop filters and it is ever so slightly harder to aim with them on since the cheek gets in the way.

This is a brit so take it with a grain of salt, but they are bad
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJlGYlEh_5Q

>>64330858
Those two are good masks, but I wouldn't pay more than 60 dollars for a surplus gas mask.

Regarding if one is better than the other, the M40 is better in the sense that it has (most of the time) a second skin made of butyl which is better against things like Mustard whereas the silicone in the MCU-2/p and M40 (without the second skin) will fail/degrade. Also, the lenses on the MCU-2/p are squishy (which is better for aiming with a scope) but yellow like crazy, I'd say they're fragile but they come with the poly face cover. I've only shot with my MCU-2/p on maybe twice, but it was a bit easier to look down the scope than with my M74

Chinesium from from Amazon doesn't work but true Chinese industrial gas masks from Taobao/AliExpress do. There's an entire rabbit hole about accumulated western knowledge of Chinese industrial gas mask certification/levels that I'm too lazy to type out but the TL;DR is that the Chinese domestic market is actually pretty damn solid.

> t. Ended up buying GOST belt filters from a mainland chinese firm for 5 bucks a pop after like a week of research
>>
>>64332320
That's the read I've gotten from their other stuff too. What goes to Amazon / Ebay is usually C-list stuff, airsoft grade because that's the target audience. Aliexpress and Alibaba try to be a touch more professional. Buying direct from the manufacturer isi always better because it avoids store-level shenanigans. "Pro Gas Mask Store" might be selling the real deal while store1101912 is selling a knockoff-of-a-knockoff that won't cut it.
China is risky but you can use them strategically to save money where you can afford to cut corners. Mission dictates gear. Mission dictates where you can cut corners.

Digital NV is a maybe. If the NVG-90 performs as advertised it'll be very market disruptive, but people have been saying that about digi NV for more than a decade. I remember when people were hyping up Pulsar N550s.
Gas masks I'm leery only because if you want a mask there's no reason to get something that might work, might not. Do you want a mask or not want a mask?

Also forgot to mention I've got literally one more infographic planned (helmet accessories) and then I'm probably going to call it for a while aside from maintaining infographs in the emporium. I think pretty much all bases are covered and then some. Exception being if there's a really good suggestion or a weird niche that needs a deep dive.
Rule of thumb:
1. "Current" infographs I maintain, but not all of them were originally mine are in the "Emporium" imgur link. Baganon made the new bag guide, earpro anon made the earpro guide, etc. The RMA sucks guide is a heavily revised version of the /gq/ classic.
2. Infographics made by other anons which I do not maintain are in the infographic reserve.

I've got a list of backlog stuff anons suggested to me some time ago as well, and I'd want to entertain a mall ninja infographic, as per last thread's talk on melee shit, only because it gives me an excuse to talk about NIJ 0115.00, the stab resistance standard, even though the standard does not cover getting run through by a polearm. You'd need a hard plate for that. It's primarily meant for shanks in the big house and street knives. Last I checked prisoners aren't spinning halberds, glaives, and yaris in the showers but maybe I'm wrong, but that would be based. Fight for your freedom on "horseback" with a cash prize of free spleen surgery from a discount surgeon in Costa Rica.

Infograph anon although I have teased you in past now the the barbarians are at the gates I do have a humble request for your Autisms

what in the frick heck is the slings/retention/rifle holster market like
>>
>>64335597
The market is either you buy a chinese sling with zinc pot metal hardware that snaps like a bitch (helpful tip I have a turkshit shotgun that is literally on its third sling because chinese can't bear the weight of a magfed poverty blaster) or you buy a good sling and try not to overpay. People get hopped up on brands a lot and it leads to arguable price inflation. Padded, unpadded, one two or three point, it's all up to you but the "meta" 'round ere is padded two point for long carry, unpadded two or three for everything else. All of mine are two point. One point destroys your nuts if you try to run.
"Rifle holsters" are primarily scabbards but the Chinese have cheap molle tool straps that can adjust to fit a long gun. I have two, they hold smaller stuff fine but anything more than about 10lb and they buckle badly even if you fully weave the MOLLE, so the gun needs to be light.
Other fully-enclosed versions exist that can fit a hi point carbine or something.
That's all top of my head, I'll put this on the list for infographing and that'll be a much more comprehensive answer then.
>>
>>64335597
>>64335633
See if you can dig for very specific places like the CIF Cleaning Services place that's conveniently outside of Camp Pendleton, CA. I managed to score one of the Blue Force Vickers slings from them for a lovely $40. Used, but good condition too.

>>64335597
rebel raiders makes a cheap one I haven't tried it or seen it in person but people like it
I use a padded LBT it's ok a bit bulky, handle my fuck off heavy rifle just fine
>>
>>64335772
I like that. I'll make sure to include a list of "vendors" on the infograph. I'm working on the helmet accessories one now.
1. NV shrouds / rail kits.
2. Ballistic visors / masks / mandibles.
3. Counterweights / battery packs.
4. Admin lights and IFF.
5. Padding / upgraded suspension.
6. Velcro kits.
7. Misc stuff like MOHOC cameras, cat ears because I know some of you's are into that, neck protectors, etc.
Anything I'm missing? Eyepro, earpro, and NV proper are outside the scope of this infograph. We have a digital NV infographic but we're short a modern analog NV one unless the one Dan made three years ago is still "good."
>>
>>64335805
LBT is solid, the point I was making was moreso that the entire sling market is two-faced. One side, useless, other side, generally good.

Sidenote: I need pictures of the digital NODs on a half-moonlit night to compare with some pictures of the ruski nods
>>
>>64339810
Sure thing.
1. The LTC 26605 has the dubious honor of two NIJ advisory notices against it. Once in 2017, another last year. It's been reinstated both times but TWO suspensions on the same plate is, uh, rough. We never got an answer from LTC about the 2024 suspension.
2. The LTC 26605 weighs 7.5lb for a SAPI M, Hesco 4403 is 7.9lb.
3. By Midwest's admission the 26605 is only good for one 7.62x39mm BZ API. The 4403MC is good for three. This demonstrates the 4403MC has considerably better multi hit.
>>
>>64339841
Thanks anon.
I knew I should've asked here beforehand, that's my fault for expecting a company like that not to be shit.
I'm still not too upset because after the refund, they came in under $300 for a pair of plates. Ig I'll just use these till they expire, then upgrade.
>>
>>64339878
Not your fault. The armor industry is extremely shady. The reason why they had 26605s to send you but not 4403s is because people aren't buying 26605s.
Under 300 for a pair is a good price. Also, these don't actually expire. That is just the warranty period.
This is good practice for anyone with plates on the NIJ compliant product list. Check here every three to six months to see if your armor caught a suspension.

If there's a suspension then the plate is no longer NIJ certified. NIJ cert is totally voluntary and the NIJ has no real enforcement powers for uncertified armor.
What steps the manufacturer takes is up to them. When RMA's 1155 was suspended, they only recalled the immediate lot the failed plates belonged to, which was tiny. They never made a replacement model or got the 1155 reinstated. Hesco, when their 4400, 4600, 3410, and 3610 were suspended, issued much wider recalls and sent out replacements - some people even got upgrades. New models, 4401 then 4403 and then 4601 / 3411 / 3611 were certified. I don't think LTC did anything with the 26605 suspensions. Allegedly both were just internal QC (""supplier issue") but that doesn't pass the smell test since it's NIJ that issues suspensions unless the mfg instructs them to suspend, as BAE did once. I don't see that LTC told NIJ to do that. IMO, that's possibly just a vendor covering their ass. The 26605 has been reinstated twice and is currently certified, but the story is iffy and needs further investigation.
The only major armor manufacturer with no suspensions or product recalls is Tencate, now Integris. Hesco holds the 0101.06 record at four.
