>>64362543
replicable not the right word, because obviously some studies can't be done on humans:
About half of mice studies end up having no bearing on humans, replicable as in even setting ethics aside the studies aren't relevant to human anatomy. They're similar but of course not 1:1 and in some studies and studying some biochemical mechanisms that matters. Idk my diarrhea wife could explain it better she's a scientamist
Basically there's a very very very high bar of efficacy, good data, etc that prevents most mice studies from being good enough to warrant further investment in humans. That doesn't mean there isn't something there, but grant money is pretty hard to get at that scale.
I'm not the expert. If you want I can ask her and I can relay the elaboration

That sounds vague and too generic for this discussion because mice are pretty good for toxicology studies.
>>
>>64362572
My ASS is heavy
>>
>>64362573
I know anon, there's nuance to that statement though both in terms of what "good" means and because of how relevant it can truly be to humans. I mean if you want to, you can use yourself as a guinea pig and try to collaborate with some scientists to get good data from your experimenting. No one can stop you
>>
>>64362581
>>64362573
Again I got an expert on tap that has studied and devised study parameters for many mice and even specifically was doing a study to see if a new transgenic mouse breed was a good model for a certain human condition. Like she's read books on this exact subject on mice studies in toxicology and in other areas and the relevance to human research
>>
>>64362534
My background is in biomedical engineering, I work more on drug delivery systems than drugs but my experience in biochemistry taught me that organic metals can compete for absorption from similar parts of the body, so if you did load yourself up with things other than lead, the lead will have a harder time finding places where it can be absorbed and will more likely pass through your body, just like how most supplements are made from low quality low bioavailabilty minerals and stuff that barely gets absorbed by the body. The real issue is making sure the magnesium/iron supplements aren't shit.
>>
>>64362591
Yeah I was reading that. I just wonder about efficacy. Seems like it would reduce—but possibly not eliminate—exposure. And when we're talking about high elevated levels of exposure (original posts were mainly about reloading, which definitely has high lead exposure even compared to shooting, which many aforementioned discussions have underscores just how high the exposure really is, etc.) how effective something is obviously relevant
>>
>>64362589
This isn't a drug study though, we're talking more basic absorption of basic substances in the gut. The issues you're talking about are with pharmaceutical studies and if you know anything about pharmaceuticals its going to have to go through a lot of metabolism first.
>>
>>64362603
This isn't an experimental drug its taking a supplement to reduce exposure. At worst it doesn't do anything for you.
>>
>>64362607
>basic absorption of basic substances in the gut.
I'm not a mouse or a human gut expert so that seems like an overstep of the word basic, if you're privy to the details I'm really all ears, I'd be CHEESED to hear
>>
>>64362609
There is a non-zero effect on the kidneys and liver I wouldn't describe as "nothing." And again we've moved past the mechanism and I'm curious about efficacy
>>
>>64362615
Organic metals get into your bloodstream via the small intestine if ingested. Of course if you inhale a bunch of lead powders you're shit out of luck, but you can stave off any accidental lead ingestion if you can prevent absorption in the intestines.
>>
>>64362621
Don't take the whole bottle of tablets. If you're getting liver problems from a magnesium tablet you're probably lying to your doctor.
>>
>>64362572

>>
>>64362631
You shouldn't take anything you don't need. There is no such thing as "at worst doesn't do anything" for supplements. We are talking about long term accumulative effects
>>64362624
Ok. Seems like there's a litany more vectors than the magnesium can account for. If you take a supplement but you keep re-exposing yourself to like (for the sake of argument) a lead-laden car interior I doubt it will help much. Unless you start taking magnesium daily but man then it feels like you're just stressing your whole kidney systems

Basically you spin the barrel nut about 4 times, barrel falls out and you push the other one in. You may need to take off longer mlok fasteners but I don't have to do this for any of mine. I always put a tiny bit of CLP on the covered portion of the barrel and barrel extension to protect it from saltwater spray/getting dunked.
When you reinstall the barrel, I suggest using a torque wrench and setting it to 230in/lb. You can witness mark the barrel nut to get it close in the future with a pocket 1/4" hex head, but I always torque mine to minimize zero shift. Whole thing takes a couple minutes.
