Presented right before the Kremlin, the new S-600 is the state of the art air defense system, with no analogues in the west, specifically designed to country the anglo-saksi threats
>>
Shouldn't they be intercepting drones outside moscow? lmao
>>
>>64446135
So I guess this means that the S-300 and S-400 are spread out too thin and far too few in number for them to fully cover Moscow now

>>
>>64446310
You're reading too much into this. Tu-95s were more valuable targets, simple as. Tu-95s can fly often and a lot, with a ton of old planes build which could be scrapped for parts to continue maintaining them. While Tu-160s are a maintenance nightmare hanger queens, with a small number of them available.
>>
>>64446310
>The reason why is probably the same reason Ukraine didn't destroy the Tu-160s during their drone attack
Tu-160s tend to fall out of the sky under their own power and as the other anon said, the Tu-95s are what's being used to actively bombard Ukraine the most. Protecting Russia's nuclear capabilities in order to keep a "global balance of power" has nothing to do with
>Russia's right to have anti-ballistic missile defenses around Moscow was one of the stipulations or carve-outs in the SALT II treaty and is a very sensitive area
That "right" has been thrown out the window when Russia invaded Ukraine. This idea that Russia needs to be protected from the consequences of its own actions is absurd and is what's killing any real talks of providing substantial support that Ukraine needs.
>>
is this the real puccian army? the one they have been waiting for 4 years?
>>
>>64446352
Well what's protecting Russia from the consequences of their own actions is the fact that they're a nuclear power and (allegedly) could kill billions in a moment of retarded desparation.

The knock-on effects from a nuclear war would kill far more people than the weapons effects themselves. But I agree, with the readiness their nuclear forces probably have in reality, billions is an optimistic number.
>>
>>64446277
My shallow understanding of AD tells me that saturating someplace with bad AD is technically useless. All you'll get is more systems shooting at the wrong place.
Spooking Moscow would be great just to drive home the reality that Pantsir basically doesn't work and NO amount of Pantsir will ever change that.

Counter-argument: don't ever, ever even POSSIBLY push the Russians to save face by having to address Pants-down's weakness. Let the charade continue. 1% chance of Russia fixing Pantsir is still too much to risk.

I think they mean specialized radar units tasked with manning the fixed installations and mobile radar units. Soviets/russians were weird like that, naming every formation as a regiment.
>>
>>64446617
>Moscow is the only.place in russia that actually matters
And St Petersburg. But it's counterproductive. You say you're not at war and you prove this by putting three AA ringes around your capital? You say you're winning and hohols are finished yet you have to go to the trouble of protecting your capital? My point really is about how Russia can both say one thing and act another and nobody questions it.
>>
>>64446617

it's not about operational readiness per se, it's about how shitty their reliability and their engine resource are, among other things
please remember that this is a late soviet (shitty design compounded by soviet industry getting left in the dust by that time) variable geometry (maintenance nightmare at best times) wunderwaffe with engines that on paper can do like 2,500 hours (probably less due to shitty manufacturing), cooked up as a way to respond to american B-1 Lancers

I member...
Actually, I member there was a YouTube channel called Mover & Gonky or something... two ex fighter pilots. I watched about a minute of them reviewing this Tu-160, and his fruity latino cohost says "Ooh, hope the pilot made it out alright."
Then the white guy "Mover?" agrees.
Is there some gay lip service to some fraternal order of combat pilots?
They seemed unaware of what Tu-160's exist to do... or of what they've generally been shooting at for the entirety of this war.

I know everyone likes to pretend hating on Russia and everything but what exactly is wrong here? America has technicals like this as well to prevent panic when having to defend civilian areas. If you actually think something is wrong here than you are clueless on modern city defense.

Maybe it has something to do with the image Russia has presented itself to be and continues to do. Just for starters.

While yes the zig insults are warranted, what they decided to do was have elevated towers to clear the treetops + some landscape. A silly idea all things considered, but an effective one for the sole purpose of trying for tree skimming drones.

Nigger, the falling bullet hypothesis is a quirk of shooting vertically up in the air, the bullet essentially losing all velocity, then picking it back up on the way down. Since the bullet lost all energy and it can't build speed past terminal velocity, you have a scenario where the bullet returns with a lot less energy.
These are the result of bullets not "falling" vertically but completing their ballistic arc. They didn't completely lose horizontal velocity, they only lost velocity due to drag.
People are indeed killed by celebratory gunfire on occasion, so you're taught to not shoot guns in the air. But it's never people shooting in the air vertically getting killed by their own gunfire, it's always people shooting with some angle and hitting people who had nothing to do with the situation a mile away.

I know which video you're talking about, and that was a mishap before the war, the video was made before the invasion too, and yeah, it's kind of always been that way since the inception of military aviation. Yes military aviators try to kill each other in the the most violent way possible, there still is a sense of ethics that has persisted throughout the years. Just think of the times when German pilots were escorting crippled American bombers back to friendly lines. In any case, pilots aren't really thrilled to see their international colleges get killed in accidents, not to mention the beautiful planes they fly.

I am 99% sure that it would be more cost effective to hire Norks to do this with something in 14.5mm.

My operating theory as to why Russia doesn't hire them to do low level AA on critical locations is national pride and the fact that Putin probably (rightly) thinks that past a certain number having Norks surround your critical infrastructure and capital with crew served weapons is a bad thing.
>>
>>64451141
Putin already sold his everlasting soul to the Norks, he has nothing left to bargain with.

Before Norks he owes his soul to various shamans, sorcerers and whatnot who provided him mystical protection. A pretty competent one too, but at the cost of serious debt to mobster-equivalent unsavory types, and not one he can pay with money. His soul will probably be carved up for spare parts the moment he dies.

In addition to the stuff others said a lot of people would, given the choice, happily stop the bomber without killing anyone. This includes pilots. They just accept that unfortunately someone in this equation probably has to die, so it's best that it's the crew of the bomber, not you or the civilians being bombed. You can believe you're in the right to be firing that missile but still hope to see a chute afterwards. Some people will celebrate, some people won't feel anything, some might know they did the right thing but still not feel great about taking a life.
It's not a weakness, it's just a sign of the basic respect for human life that a disconcerting number of Russians seem to lack.
>>
>>64450932
>>64451345
I don't get this disconnect. The enemy pilot is the foremost edge of something that wants to at very least crush you, your family, your countrymen.
In this specific case of facing a Russian pilot, you are confronted with a slaver. (a slaver which often shoots kinzhals into apartments)
In practice, this hostile entity exists to kill you.

Only explanation I can think of, is that fighter pilots tends to be extreme gung-ho, positive-thinker types. "Growth mindset" types.
They simply put the ugly side of this reality out of their minds, and focus purely on how rad flying is. Chase the rush.
And ultimately, this active blindness is how they maintained the high motivation to pass selection, and surpass the other candidates for the driver's seat.
>>
>>64451426
How is there a disconnect? There's a reason that the war movie cliche of 'realising your enemy is also a human being' is so well worn it goes all the way back to All Quiet on the Western Front, the first one. Not everyone can completely force that out of their mind. Wanting to fight for your home doesn't automatically mean you long to bathe in the blood of your enemies, even if they're truly terrible people. Some will, some won't. It's just how it's always been.

>I don't get this disconnect
It's based on empathy and professional courtesy.
>>
>>64446911
western pilots also have to be highly educated and serious non-nonsense professionals. At least when they're on the job.
That sort of ethos goes hand in hand with a sort of mechanistic empathy. Doing your job correctly and to the absolute best of your ability becomes the pinnacle of human virtue.
You do a job correctly or the people that have entrusted their lives to you die. And you value other people that do their jobs correctly. And if something goes wrong in that aircraft, you hope the pilot doesn't have to die because someone else didn't do their job.

Before the war people were waaaaaaay more likely to extend russians the benefit of the doubt and assume they were 'just doing their job' like most human beings.
>>
>>64451583
>Flugabwehrkanone
It's just a compound-word. Like whataboutism.
The real problem is that German never uses either uppercase or hyphens between each part of their compound-words. That's what could tip you off for how to read it.

Flug = flight
Abwehr = defense [ab + wehr = against-defense] [btw, Wehrmacht = """Defense Force"""]
Kanone = cannon

FlaK = Flight Defense-Against Cannon
