At least it'll actually get done this time (probably)https://apnews.com/article/trump-navy-golden-fleet-battleship-0940368b39b19f03abe8689ebad08380
>>64668238>it'll get done this time!Absolutely will not. The Navy cancelled the rail gun program over a decade ago. They have to start over at this point if they want produce an actual Navy ready gun, and not just put a gun on the deck of a ship for a photo op like General Atomics did not long after the official program was killed. This singular demand will keep these ships from ever materializing, let alone all the other bullshit.
>>64668238Lmao why the fuck do you think THIS ship would ever get built? It's gonna be MASSIVE, far too large to build in existing dry docks except the ones being used for aicraft carriers and the marine non-nuclear totally not aircraft carriers.Which means the only way these get built is if you STOP building the aircraft carriers. Also these things would probably need to be nuclear powered which would also fuck up carrier reactors and submarine reactors as the industry can't support another nuclear ship easily.
>>64668257GA is pitching their railgun as part of Golden Dome and to defend Guam, so if they get any money out of that pot I don’t think it’s outlandish for one to be ready by the 2035-40 timeframe these ships would potentially exist in
>>64668270>part of Golden Domeahh so another snow job, got it
>>64668268The plan is apparently to dump a ton of money into the Philly shipyard, presumably to reward Hanwha for investing here, and build these there.
>>64668238>>64667279>>64666152>>64666407>>64667006>>64668181You're a fucking moron
>>64668277Which is a 5-10 year process, there is zero chance in hell that can happen before trump either leaves office or dies.
>>64668276While the missile defense satellites are questionable, a lot of money is being shoveled towards low cost per intercept air defense, with BAE also developing the HVP in large part for missile interception. Also a fair amount of Army interest in containerized SMRs to provide power to bases, which would enable a broader roll out of air defense focused railguns. I wouldn’t count the railgun out yet, especially with Japan dumping money into them too.
>>64668238breh what are these guns even shooting at
>>64668297Hanwha has thrown a fair amount of their own money into already, and shipbuilding investment currently enjoys bipartisan support in Congress and appears likely to for the foreseeable future. I don’t think Trump’s timeline is remotely realistic, but I see this all as an exercise in the Navy finally figuring out how to massage Trump’s ego in their favor, like the Air Force did with F-47. This is basically CG(X) 2.0, which is something they’ve wanted to some degree for a very long time.
If the navy wants survivable shipsThe only way to do that is to pump the tonnage upSteel is cheap
>>64668289Nah they’re the morons. I’m the one true anon
>>64668322Mk 38 shooting at usv probably
>>64668238It unironically looks like he just asked them what China's biggest surface combatant was and when they showed him the Type 055, he said he wanted one 100 meters longer and with moar guns.
