This one? This is the center support rivet. You'll need a drill press to remove it. Its possible to form rivets by hand with a hammer but they'll look hideous.

If I were you I'd see if you can find a gunsmith that will do the work for less than the cost of a AK long rivet tool https://www.tothtool.com/product/ak-long-rivet-tool/

Also, depending on the scope rail and its design that will have to be removed too. Some scope rails cover up the other end of the rivet. If you can access the backside it might be worth beating it with a punch. Sorry

Anyone have a source for REAL OKP7? And rec for a AK-103 clone-ish? Was thinking SLR-107FR.
>>
>>64913988
Bought a MAK-90 off a guy a while back for a good price and upon realizing one of its prior owners FUCKING GORILLA GLUED the thumbhole stock and T-nut into the receiver, it collected dust in my closet until such a time I graduated from anger management class and was prepared to deal with it.

Today was the day. The tang and grip screws required heat and an impact screwdriver to remove. I won the battle with only minor screw head stripping and, God be good, for my effort I discovered I was blessed with a straight cut/squareback receiver as Father Kalashnikov intended.

Now the question is what furniture do I want to put on it? I understand that almost invariably there will be minor fitting from the extra thickness of the stamped receiver. Are side folders a meme? Tupperware or wood? Railz or no?
>>
>>64923428
Get Tapco intrafuse stock from gunbroker.
>>
>>64923428
The reason it was glued was MAK-90s were notorious for having super wobbly stocks, not matter how much you tightened them, the first AK I ever shot was a MAK-90, and the stock was wobbly as shit.
>>
>>64923428
Try and find a Chu set, would be what I'd do. Since you let it sit for awhile, continue until you can get the correct furniture, imo.
PolytechParts.com might have something, but i doubt they have stocks (at least not wood)
>It'll probably end up costing as much as the rifle, unfortunately.
Here's a set, says they ship to the US but it's a little pricey.
https://www.russ-guns-de.net/en/ak47/akm-wooden-stock-set-norinco-china-model-56-2
>>
>>64923475
Fuck, it's airshit furniture.
My bad, I just grabbed it based on the picture.
>>
>>64923446
What's the calculus on this stock? Is it primarily the on-the-fly length adjustability? I guess that could help in dialing in the eye relief too - I do plan on adding a red dot.

>>64923465
Interesting. I had (and later sold) a MAK-90 some years ago with the poly dragunuv stock and it was solid from what I remember. But I had never owned or handled one with the wood thumbhole. Not only was there glue, there was also red threadlocker on the tang screw. PO went a little nuts but maybe it was for a reason.

>>64923475
Ideally yes, but as you said it's too spendy. I just want something that works.

If you're fine with a non folding stock variant, LegionUSA has a bunch of new old stock KR 103's, I got mine from them a few weeks ago and its been great. Tax free. They are low serial numbered too, the one I got from them was in the 3XXX numbered range.

KR-103 was built by black people in Florida. Something to keep in mind.
>>
>>64925803
I mean, what's wrong with the product itself? Do you own one, or are you just repeating some other persons sentiment that you read online about issues that arose towards the end of the companies manufacturing run.

>>
>>64926085
Yes, I do. And yes they are, probably the nicest firearm I own. The finish is immaculate and the action is insanely smooth. I suggested for >>64922883 to take a look at one since they were interested in finding a 103. I mentioned that these models weren't the folding stock ones, and if they were willing to look past that they're a really good deal, especially considering there's no sales tax on them. That's not an argument you can make in good faith towards not purchasing something that might meet their needs. Oh let's guess, they should just buy a WASR right? Or pay some boomer 4k on Gunbroker for a build with a Saiga 5.5mm receiver?
>>
>>64923662

>>
>>64925875
Had one and sold it. Shot like 7 MOA, even worse than my 5.56 WBP. Made by blacks is not synonymous with quality. Learned my lesson and I only buy combloc AKs from military arsenals now.
>>
>>64925875
>>64926476
Oh forgot to add, out of the box it couldn’t accept any magazines except the KUSA one it shipped with. I had to file the shit out of the catch to get it to accept surplus mags. Its built to black people tolerances which is arguably worse than shit ass PSA.
>>
>>64922883a
Just so you are aware SLR series are not 100 series AK, they are just variations of the 74. If you are going to spend that much on an SLR see if you can get an SGL since you want a 100 clone.

Sold it to some redditor for more than I paid for it and I bought an SLR107FR, so its all good. I was an early adopter pre-folder with a low serial. Browse the threads in the archive or on the files, lots of QC issues. If you are dying to own an American made AK, I would save a little more and get the 103 from Meridian. Its a boutique manufacturer that likely does not hire black people to build AKs. Pic rel was my KR
>>

Yes, WASR, ZPAP or a WBP Jack. Do not buy an American made AK under any circumstances, no matter how nice the finish is. WBP Jack has a better finish anyway so your reasoning is retarded.

>>64925875
I had one KUSA, never again. Had to bend top cover to be able to put it in place. Firing pin retainer pin was so loose it constantly fell out when removing the bolt from the carrier. Safety selector was loose too (although this is an easy fix, still unacceptable for a >1k$ rifle). Sight was so badly canted it was impossible to zero and had to ask a gunsmith to rotate the front post. Polymer furniture scratches easily.

It's far worse than PSA and in that price range you can find quality imports like WBP or Zastava.

It gives you another egress point into the receiver, requires more work to do for not much benefit (either welding a new handle on or making an entirely new forging pattern and revising the cover in the stamping pattern), you still have to have the massive cutout on the right side of the gun for ejection and the safety lever, and a massive subset of the AK consumer market just wants to LARP Red Dawn (on either side) or something like it, so they wouldn't be interested in it.
What company would even do it?
>PSA
They are too lazy to rivet properly, why would they start putting in extra effort on modifying their carriers and dust covers? If they did, it'd be no better than an aftermarket conversion you can already buy and do yourself.
>Imports
WBP might, but then there's their own issues on producing good designs (see WBP 5.56 bolt design).
Also there is a factory left-side charging Kalashnikov action rifle, it's called the Galil ACE.

Is there a market for original, soviet (Tula) plum furniture?
>>
>>64940482
Yes but it's a niche of a larger but still niche market. Plum furniture is popular but remember that 90% of people buying it wouldn't care if it were the OG plums in your pic or if they were amerifat "plum" abortions like in mine. US made plum furniture is wildly cheaper than the good stuff.
>>
>>64940482
>is there a market for original, soviet
Yes, genuine Soviet stuff always gets bought at absurd prices, even compared to other Warsaw Pact surp of the exact same patterns. You don't have to use any more words than that, some schmuck will buy it.
>>

>>
>>64941660
Are these from the same Chinese factory as the lynxes it is that different vepr clone? Because those are the ones that you're looking for.
>>
>>64941660
It's "fine," it's passable for current year, metallurgy is fine and it won't eat shit in sub-500 rounds.
Mostly proprietary parts (if you're interested in modifying or future repair) and mags are both relatively expensive ($30 at gunmagwarehouse) and frequently out of stock though, so ymmv outside of buying the gun itself.
There are far worse ways to spend $300.
>>64941896
The Lynx 12 was a Saiga clone that was almost 1-to-1 to the Saiga 12, not imported or manufactured anymore. The JTS-12 is a different project, not nearly as well-designed and itself being an entirely different design beyond "take an AK and make it 12 gauge."
Neither are clones of the Vepr-12.

>>
>>64941996
You can occasionally find a used or new old stock Lynx 12 (or its older import name Cheetah 12 or the even older DDI 12) for sale/auction. The only other option is getting extremely lucky on finding a kitchen counter FFL with old stock Saigas from 2014 somehow still kicking around willing to sell at the 2014 price.
Otherwise no, there is no "click to buy now" option you'll find for that price range that's also an AK shotgun.
If you just want a semiauto shotgun, you can find (used) Mossberg 930s in that price range if you look around and are willing to gamble on auctions or pawnshops.
Don't buy Turkshit on principle, it'll save you money (and your fingers).

First time firing an AK. I fired 80 or so rounds out of this American knockoff last week. I don’t know if the frame is 1:1 to other AK’s, but I’ve heard that AK’s were heavy or unwieldy, so I was really surprised by how light, slim, and “natural” feeling it was, not much recoil and not bulky at all. It felt not that different from an AR of the same barrel length and caliber.

Don't think the Chinese made a combo GB/FSB, at least not one that was adjustable like the 56C is.
>>
>>64944282
Oh it's adjustable...now that is really nice. Never liked how they hooded their front sight posts but it's a minor gripe.
I've been thinking of getting the PSA krink in 300 blackout. It's a sin I know but I think it's kinda neat. And I can use my suppressor on it.
>>
>>64944282
>Don't think the Chinese made a combo GB/FSB
The Type 81 commercial imports to the US had a combination fsgb. Other Type 81 variants (including the Canadian commercial ones and most of the Burmese variants) use a two-piece system where the front sight block is a separate piece that couches on the front of the gas block.
Pic is the fsgb gas block design I mean, it's from a listing for one of the few examples stateside (there's like 20-25 of them).
The Type 81 is a short-stroke piston design, but that gas block could very easily be dropped into an AK and that adjustment could very easily be retrofitted to it
You're correct on adjustable gas blocks, but they did make a fsgb.

Dracos are pistols, 922(r) only applies to rifles and shotguns. I have also never heard of a Draco of any kind having a welded muzzle nut since 2004 when the AWB expired other than ban state modifications.
>wood pistol grip
Why do they even make these? They aren't "clone correct" for clonefags, they're worse grip texture otherwise and they just look weird; is it just boomers being retards with "muh wood?"
Zastava still makes the plastic grips since they offer them for mil contracts and a few commercial variants, why do they make these God-awful wood grips

>>64944535
I think it's a 922r thing. The furniture being US made, is one of the (3 according to the 922r "list", iirc [buttstock grip and handguards]) easiest compliance components to have made state side.
As to why that pattern, probably not a lot of "extra" manufacturing necessary over say a standard Yugo pattern grip, so it's cheaper.
>>

That makes sense looking over 922r parts, it still offends my autism greatly though

made the sling mount by drilling out a 5/16 steel round rod. I used this too sleeve some random wood screw I had around.

I made the butt pad out of a rubber bench block from Amazon. I don't recommend this. I was expecting the rubber block to be monolithic but instead it was made out of several layers that were glued together. These layers would split has I cut them. You can't tell from a distance but if you get up really close you can see some lacerations.

Impulse bought one of these on sale. I think I've got enough spare parts to fill in everything but the bolt carrier. I think I'll try my luck using the PSA AK-V bolt. If everything works out I'll have a $300 ghetto blaster.

The only thing I'll have to put effort into fixing is the missing magwell. I already have a bunch of Sa-26, PPS-43 and Sten magazines so I'll just have to fabricate some kind of sheet metal adapter.

Looks like you could just give it a few good hits at the plate with a rubber mallet to drive it home. Also, make a small pilot hole for your stock screw so you don't accidentally split the wood. In my opinion you would only need to file if you were having gross difficulty in fitting the stock to the receiver.
>>

Put some thin paint or something similar on the stock where it inserts into the receiver, install the stock again, and see where it rubs. Lightly remove material from those sections and reinstall again. Repeat until it fits how you want it.

I have a V12 and last time I cleaned it there was plastic in front of the gas puck
>>
My builder just went radio silent. Reached out last week, no response. How long until I just show up at his crib?

Yes its normal to have some plastic fouling. It will accumulate in bore scratches, gas ports etc.

>This would be a good candidate for a Gepard-ish knock off.
Maybe. If making my own magwell proves too hard then I'll give up and Gepard it. I have a couple unbuilt of P80 frames that I can use. However, I did just realize that I might run into issues using a PSA AK-V carrier. The AKV uses a shortened receiver while the Nak9 uses a full length receiver.

I'm going to embarrass myself by thinking out loud so someone smarter can check my logic:

I have a problem because now I have to do math for the recoil spring. Both guns are direct blowback which means they rely on the mass of the bolt + forward force of the recoil spring to keep the breech closed. Ideally I would use an AKV spring with the AKV bolt carrier but I can't do that because of the receiver length, the AKV spring is too short for the Nak9 receiver. I need my custom recoil spring to be = AKV spring despite being a different overall length. Essentially I need (AKV carrier + AKV spring force) = (AKV carrier + custom spring force) I don't want to end up with an underpowered spring that makes the gun blowup.

I know there are charts for mass: caliber ratio for blowback actions but I'm lazy and hate math. I might hack off the back of the receiver so that the travel distance is the same and I can fit the AKV recoil spring. Also, its not like an AR where I can just buy a spring with a known force. I'm gonna have to do all the measuring myself.

Of course none of this means anything if the mass of the bolt alone is enough to keep the bolt in battery until the pressure is safe. Perhaps the spring force isn't factored in to the effective bolt mass but I don't know these things for sure. I don't want to make assumptions for this stuff. Maybe I'm overthinking this.

I will gladly accept someone smarter humiliating me

I got it as good as I think I can
there's still a fingernail's width of a gap on the sides, but the tang is fully seated and I'm not going to try grinding out more insert for a fingernail's width
mostly had to sand material off the front and the ledge that butts up against the trunnion
took me a while just because I was really taking my time with it
it's a snug fit, with just a touch of left/right wiggle, and can be removed by hand
I think it's a pretty good result for a first attempt
>>
>>64958270
Good job. That gap is actually supposed to be there. It helps prevent the stock from splitting

Also what is the best way to put a threaded AR stock/tube on a Draco? USMG has a stock adapter but it looks a bit clumsy tbqh. Changing out the rear trunnion would be a pain but I do want to larp as HWS
>>
>>64959212
$15-$20 is the general "going rate" for surp steel mags, so you did fine
As long as the rust isn't impeding on function and you stopped the growth (oil them) they'll be fine and will outlive you (assuming you continue to maintain them).
>>64959734
It's very clearly meant to be a US Palm grip on general shape alone. Pic related.
The real one doesn't have that finger groove, it's another of those "change it a bit to for legalese reasons" things like the mag ridges (it's supposed to be a Magpul mag), the stock's center support (it's supposed to be a Magpul CTR, which has no arm going into the QD from the bottom) and the stock's lack of cheek riser cutouts (again, CTR stock).

Doesn't wobble with the screws in
And hammering won't do anything with too much material
>>
>>64961270
>Doesn't wobble with the screws in
give it time, if you actually shoot (which you dont) recoil will wear it in and your stock will wobble
>And hammering won't do anything with too much material
you don't use an actual hammer newfag. you mortar it on the ground until it seats

There are five (5) different cartridges that use 39mm as their case length nomenclature that I can actively buy on the US commercial market, and there are commercial AKs in 3 of them.

Communication requires both parties to know what the other is specifically talking about to reduce confusion, so we use specific nomenclature that is agreed upon in advance (usually on an industry-wide scale, such as in this case with SAAMI and CIP calling it "7.62x39").

Molot makes Veprs in 6.5 Grendel, yes.
You can occasionally find one secondhand still but they're harder to get now than before the import ban for obvious reasons. Csspecs makes 10, 20 and 30-round mags for them.
I sincerely wish another company would pick up the idea, it's not a big ask all things considered because of the parent case being 7.62x39.

Looking to put a 74 style brake on an m70.

Which 14x1 to 24x1.5 adapter to use? Looking at Strela and Armacon. They seem about the same. Leaning toward strela.

Looking at Arsenal AK-140B for the brake, I like the chrome lining.

This setup should work right?
Some reviews for brakes and adapters mention M70s having larger than expected detent pins. Is this something to worry about?
>>
>>64965798
It’ll be fine. If the detent pin has a larger circumference than the akm pins you could widen the notch or crank the adapter down against the front sight and rockset it. If the pin is too long, it’ll fit perfect. The arsenal muzzle device is great. Ran one on my saiga/103 for years before cutting it down and sbring to 104 length due to overgassing.

>>
>>64966082
Looks good, congratulations. Glad you were able to get everything figured out and hopefully the next time won't be as challenging. There's a particular component to AKM ownership that isn't present with AR stuff, I cant put my finger on it at the moment but it does make it a little bit more enjoyable. I do regret starting this late though. I stuck with AR's way before then and now that I'm exploring these all the fun stuff is gone or going away.
>>
>>64966384
yeah, glx 1x
>>
>>64965040

So you'd need to drill out the rear trunnion and install a full size (Romanian, presumably)? Atlantic has one of those for pistol braces on the regular Draco which might be the way to go on this one
