Is buying an FAL the most confusing/difficult thing a gun owner can do?

>Boomers buying every kit that drops
>Kits may or may not be shit, and if they aren't, they all are missing the hardest to source component: the receiver
>Literally one (1) FAL receiver is viewed as being any good in its entire history
>Gunboomer sellers lie about what their supposed Imbel rifles actually are
>Imbel owners willing to sell are few and far between, and all of them know their gun commands a big premium
>Kit builds are actually more expensive than just buying one that isn't
>Magazines are horribly expensive and hard to source, and there are like eighty different kinds, and whether or not they are metric is important
>Zero options to put modern optics on them without having a rail welded to the top
>Expensive in all cases, including the guns who have a reputation for being shit for some reason
Fuck this.
>>
>>64937097
thats just standard gun show boomer trickery. AR10s are almost as bad desu.
>>
Do chrome-lined .260 Remington barrels exist?
>>
>>64937097
I made the two in >>64936786 from just parts, not even incomplete kits, I bought at good prices. The 12 inch SBR is on a cast and the long boy on a forged, they both work, the cast isn't some pariah like boomers make it out to be. Keepshooting has good metric mags for $35, but of course they go oos fast. Also, who the fuck is welding rails to FALs? That's G3s.

>AR10s are almost as bad
I don't see how, unless you're trying to spend as much money on one as you might an objectively better gun like the MARS. There are perfectly good, budget AR-10s just like there are perfectly good, budget AR-15s. Plenty of people on this board will literally tell you that there's nothing wrong with buying a $500 AR and calling it a day once you put a red dot on there and maybe change the trigger.

Most parts and mags you will find are 'metric'. It is super easy to tell the difference between an 'inch' mag and a 'metric' mag, literally just google it. Learn how to look through photos on auctions. Seems fishy they don't have more photos? Ask. They don't provide more photos? Don't bid. Finally if you are having these types of questions/concerns you are in no way shape or form ready to actually build a FAL. Buy a DSA and call it a day.

SG has an ever so slightly better deal going if you buy 1,000 rounds. It's literally just five dollars in terms of difference (if you bought 1k rounds from Black Basin), but the point is that it's still /a/ difference. Black Basin's pricing is a temporary sale (it ends in about 5.5 hours).

I am mentioning this to those who miss out and still want reasonably priced Saltech @ .77cpr w/ free shipping.

I need some help /brg/. I fairly recently inhereted a FAL from my grandfather and took it to the range for the first time today. It's shooting 2-3 inches left and I've run out of windage adjustment on the rear sight.as far as I can tell the front sight is not canted and the barrel *looks* straight. Forgive me for posting this here but I checked the catalogue and found no other thread came as close, and my question doesn't really warrant making one just for my question.

I'm modeling an M82 for fun and wanted to ask if you see anything particularly off about it? I'm not going for super realism, it's a bit on the low poly side so it's meant to be a bit simplified compared to the real thing, I'd just like to nail the "essence" of the gun if that makes sense.
Is the scope too big? The barrel is on the short side because I like the more compact look of it but I imagine it'd be miserable shooting this irl

If your going to paying current msrp for DShitA you may as well save a little more and get a Robinson XCR-M. At least those take AR10 mags and basically are an evolved FAL-K2-AK hybrid. For whatever reason No Leo or Gov has ever bought any, ever. Maybe just maybe that means the company actually doesn't engage in corruption

>may as well save a little more and get a Robinson XCR-M

Can't you buy a DSA for 40-50% less, moreso if you are buying used. At a minimum, the XCR-M starts at 2,700, right? With those sorts of margins, you're better off saving up even more and buying an LMT, no?
>>
>>64944462

Good. Keep all your brass. BOTL for a single stage press for making your own ammo. That will add a great deal of accuracy to your shooting. Measuring your powder, sorting bullets by weight, seating the bullet to your rifle's individual headspace, improving concentricity, and checking finished rounds in a bullet gauge, this reqires less investment than a more expensive rifle and you will outshoot those who have them.

Took a quick trip back to KT and they fully replaced the springs. They'll also test fire it, and maybe remove the rings on your piston if it helps cycle.
Hope you're the original owner so you can get free shipping and service. I've claimed to have lost the receipt before and still got full warranty service and shipping.
>>
>>64955900
Never had to threaten anything for my warranties. Always gotten help and they've taken care of my problem child. I will not deny that the QC is complete shit, but they do take care of you (source: I'm the RFB anon with 5 warranty trips)
>>
>>64959713
Not knocking KT here but after the 2nd warranty trip I'd be ditching it altogether, let alone 5. I've tossed around the idea of getting a RFB but I don't know if I have the patience for that much maintenance

Ever since Lake City surplus dried up, it's fallen to Saltech to become the new "standard" in best M80 ammo. They simply straddle that line of being more expensive than the cheapest stuff (i.e. reloads or Igman or some other random shit), but being better and more consistent in return. At the same time it also doesn't do what retarded shit like Winchester or Federal where they think they deserve to charge you 1.75 per round and simultaneously, somehow, still be bad. There are more expensive and more accurate ammo out there than Saltech, but it's much more expensive and not range ammo. Similarly there's much more expensive and better penetrating ammo, but it's all surplus and costs around $2-10 a round depending on how the boomer selling it feels.

I'd say for most people an ar10 is probably the right choice.

Get something you like and want to shoot. I've put more rounds through a gun I bought 6 months ago than one I bought 10 years ago.
>>
>>64959816
If you have the SCAR, you should dump it at some point before the new one comes out and is readily available, then you'll be in a hole. I am willing to bet you spent $3200 on that SCAR since that's around what everyone is scalping at. If the new one comes out, and FN doesn't drip feed like they did the original SCAR then the value will deflate to become commensurate with the going rate of the new one. Happens without fail unless the old one is rare and/or mechanically better, and it probably won't be the latter and it definitely isn't the former.

It was at a range I went to a while back, they bent some thick wire into a hook shape that they then fed through a pegboard and put some 1/2 inch pipe insulation on the hook. I know kel tec is kel tec but still it looks neat. I figured for the price and how it's been out a while, it wouldn't be such dookie. Thankfully I am the original owner so I can get it fixed for free but I just can't feel good about owning it anymore. It's a cool gun and lots of fun at the range but shit like this gives me a sad about having bought it over an ar10 or 10 hi points.

For example, we could have had a NATO RPK in the T48 with AR-10s being the service rifle, that way we didn't have to get into fire mode autism with .308 and just let the riflemen focus on accurate fire with one guy per fireteam with a more controllable 30 round burst, which is exactly what happened in vietnam with chopped down L1A1s.

I wonder what the market would be for making repro mags in a small shop setting. The biggest hurdle is a jig. Otherwise its a lot of tedious sheetmetal bending and double checking dimensions. The closer to a factory solid steel jig the easier it is. Milled sheet metal screwbuilds are easier but will look homemade and obviously not as nice as a single sheet.

Trying to decide between a battle rifle and an AR-15 at the moment. How good are the offerings from PTR? I really like the G3 platform.
>>
>>65003090
An AR is pretty much a range toy, so a 91 pistol is a natural selection for you. Plan ahead and imagine your picrel with an FRT... it's just a matter of time.

My personal opinion is ar10s should have as much magnification as you can afford. Most people try to do as much as they can with as little magnification as they can because they want to maintain that 1x capability for epic pie cutting contests. Once you abandon that notion you can focus on making a pretty sweet long range rifle. Of the ones you listed I'd go with the accupoint 4-16. I know you were probably looking at the 1-8.

I love my Acupoint in 1.1x4 on my 10/22. Exceptional clarity.

It was a very simple but useful setup –at least out to 200yds which is all the further my range goes. Maybe I should just RETVRN.

With the RX06? I zeroed it at 200yds on the tip of the triangle. The TA11 is zeroed at 100 on the tip of the chevron like the manual suggests for 147gr ball. That's all I shoot anyway.

Anyone get the DSA Acog direct mount? Its their optics rail but threaded on top for Acogs. Wondering if I should spend the money to get my optic a half inch lower

You're better off setting $1200 on fire. If you want a .300WINMAG bolt-action there's decades of used Remington 700s out there for half that price.
