Why would you need any control ambi except a thumb safety where applicable? I don't get this gripe with leftoids. Like you STILL haven't learned to use your index finger to hit things after years of not having special snowflake buttons for your "disability?" When I use a paddle release I use my strong hand index finger intuitively, when I shoot a gun weak handed I use my index finger on the controls intuitively. And I don't even have the vestigial addled mutant hand gene. It's not hard. I get you can't reach a manual safety and that is necessary to be side-swapped, and I get when there's some mechanical issue like the gun ejecting back into your face or an oversized mag release button digs into your middle finger, but like just use your dang finger to hit the controls, they're right there. But 98% of the time a snaketongue complains about this it's a freaking striker pistol that doesn't matter at all. You've already had to learn to write differently so you don't smear ink. This is WAY less involved than that

Figure it out!

>>65014143
That looks like a Winchester moment to me lol

>>65014357
YHM and Bowers have some, SilencerCo still has some relatively greeble-less models and Lyman is coming out with a cheap one that is knurled the whole length. It's unfortunate, I like the straight tube as well. The spacewars nonsense all trying to outdo one another with added machine time looks silly to me, and they're only getting worse with 3D printing

Southpaw BULLS literally RUN THIS SHIT. Every modern pistol now caters to us. The Southpaw Anti-Defamation League has successfully lobbied gun manufacturers to include ambi controls, and we will boycott into complete submission any company that does not abide by our capricious desires.

We WILL continue to inconvenience every dextroid by forcing him to deal with ambi controls. We WILL continue to suppress the adoption of bullpups. Your favorite gun? Well, we were promised it would include ambi controls 3000 years ago. Sorry, bucko.
>>
>>65014587
Thats fine but we still make you swap out the mag release to the wrong side.
>>
>>65014587
As a lefty, I’m anti-ambi controls, too many points to fiddle with and accidentally actuate, I prefer minimal controls so I can get more control of the gun.

tbqhwu I think ti's almost entirely because of catering to tactical larperators who want to pretend their arm is going to be shot off in a confrontation and they will have to fire weak handed upside down in mud through a barricade and the decades (1.3 hours) of experience they've built up racking slides with their teeth and slapping optics againt 2x4s and bootheels and BLUDGEONING magazines in with the force of 1,000 suns obliterating ejector after ejector is going to see them through that dark night

>>65014628

>>65014628
Government procurement requirements also probably have something to do with it. If a lack of ambidextrous controls is going to be a potentially disqualifying feature, then companies have to do as the boomer requisitions officers say (as in the ridiculous need to have guns be field-strippable without pulling the trigger because cops can't be fucked to learn how to clear a gun).
>>
>>65014031
>Why no ambi controls
Ambi controls are the most fucking retarded gun "feature" ever created. Left handed people are so close to being non-existent that they do not fucking matter, and nobody that is right handed has any fucking use for this dogshit whatsoever. Not to mention, half the time these controls are implemented so poorly that they wind up being a hindrance. I have picked up so many guns where the right sided slide stop is in my fucking way it is unreal. All my homies HATE left handers.

It's a Glock that's made (at least assembled) in the USA. That doesn't mean the QC is better or anything, but if buying one can help Cleetus keep his job at the gun factory, I'm gonna pick it over the Glock brand Glock 100% of the time.

>>65014537
You're right Burt. It's literally a skill issue and I should just train more. I was actually thinking "Huh, the RXM is perfect for me but it doesn't have ambi controls, so I shouldn't buy it." Thanks for convincing me it's a nonissue.

I picked up picrel used from Guns.com, and I put 100 rounds of PMC .45 FMJ just to test it out. I had 7 ftf's and two of them were with an extra pair of 7 round mags I had. It could also be just me, but it seems like after further inspecting the gun, the front and rear sights seem ever-so-slightly off. The safety also has a very slight clicking when I press down on it. Other than that, the gun shoots like a dream, and is actually pretty accurate from what I can tell. The barrel bushing makes fits great to the slide, and makes very little rattle with the barrel taken out. Not to mention the grip feels fantastic. I want to chalk it up to it being a break-in issue, and will just stick with 7 round mags. Should I keep her as a project gun, or should I just return it and stick with American made only from now on?
>>
>>65014726
Might just need to be broken in a bit. Keep shooting it and see if the FTFs stop. It’s going to rattle more once it’s broken in, btw.

The cheap American 1911s aren’t necessarily going to be more reliable than the Turkshit/Pinoyshit.

Sounds good, I'll buy those WC mags and see how it goes. I love the way it feels and shoots man. And for only $460, I don't think I could've gotten a better deal elsewhere. This one might just become an excellent project gun.
>The cheap American 1911s aren’t necessarily going to be more reliable than the Turkshit/Pinoyshit.

what state were the failure to feeds? Could be that the case rims aren't getting under the extractor's claw meaning the extractor tension is too high or the slide doesn't have enough force (disconnector or something else is robbing it of energy on the return stroke).

I got two nitrided mags from Sarco and besides not always locking back they are pretty nice for $7.99. You missed the point entirely, it's literally NOT a skill issue. You just do it because it's entirely intuitive. Just use the finger that's right near the controls like the rest of us do, and/or slingshot the slide. Again this doesn't apply to very specific mechanical limitations, like a Sig P226's decocker for example. Strikers are practically not among the affected guns, you and OP are talking about safetyless strikers

It should be a good project and you won't feel bad about messing up a nice 1911. My tisas duty needed a decent amount of extractor tuning when I first got it. Occasionally would fail to fully return to battery, I profiled the extractor to original specs and adjusted the tension until it would smoothly cycle rounds (without the recoil spring or firing pin in).
Also for whatever reason the slide stop never worked quite right, it looked fine to me but would randomly fail to lock back every couple magazines. Replaced it with a WC bulletproof one and it's been fine since.
I'd grab a couple WC mags to try too

nigga I did not watch them shoot, "newish" probably means their grip sucks or their trigger pull sucks in addition to them fucking around with eye balls. As the other anon said "placebo effect" is probably opening both eyes changes your technique where you are now conscious of what you're doing throughout the process (open feedback) instead of the closed feedback of your existing technique. Being conscious of your sight picture, trigger press, probably helped more than shooting one eye'd

>>65015942
you have a dominate eye, your dominate eye will over power your non dominate eye and your sight picture will be primarily one eye.

Lack of aftermarket. Toblerones look cool. The apx a1 if want the optics ready. Nice triggers on both.

The only optics and light ready holster for the apx a1 that actually fit, I got off of wish. All the American made ones I tried were some jeets larping as Americans and ended up having to do charge backs on.

Not a fan of the chunky mk23 styling but it's a solid brand and the optic mount is a long overdue upgrade. I like the brand a lot but have no personal experience with the Q line

It has some quirks though. Despite the takedown QOL upgrade from the mk12 on it's still not as braindead easy to dis/reassemble as most strikers. Or most guns really. You have to think, look and fiddle to get it back together. The striker ones don't have as good of triggers as the hammer ones but that doesn't really matter. On mine the mag is hard to lock in the last 0.1mm, the magwell is just a blonde one too long so you have to shove or shock it in to get the mag release to click in. I do not know if this is just my single example, or endemic to the brand, or an old issue fixed with newer generations (mine is mk7).

As a first gun? Not the best choice, but not bad. You'll learn its idiosyncrasies. If it speaks to you, get one!

>>
>>65016517
1911s can be rather expensive and finicky especially when you start suppressing them which are not great qualities for a gun intended for home defense. The USP in 45 is a fine gun, but the Glock 21 is, in my opinion, a smoother, simpler .45 for about half the price and is what I'd recommend for a no-nonsense big bore plastic pistol.

Just buy the USP, anon. Do you want your home defense gun to go bang when you need it, or are you fine with that not happening because you fucked up your 1911 build trying to make it look like a vidya gun? Or buy a glawk or mk23 or even an already suppressor ready 1911, something that's geared to have a can on it out of the box so it's not a possible point of failure when a bear breaks into your apartment at 3 am to steal your picnic basket or honey jar or something.

A mistreated gun. Somehow a chunk is missing out the slide above the extractor, a bushing backed out, something is fucky with the slide stop, the optic cut is mangled (still works though). I literally have the worst luck buying nighthawks, all 3 1911s I bought had the same issue of premature slide stop engagement. It’s not me, I can get the gun to do it one handed. My Wilson combats don’t do it.

I sent it in for repair and to be refinished in a two tone silver and black, a cone compensator to be fitted.

Shot with my friends today.
Literally both of their glocks had multiple failures.
I don’t have anything against Glock but I certainly don’t think they’re this mega reliable handgun like some say.
One was definitely as a result of a particular hollow point but even then, it seems like glocks should be able to eat any hollow point.

This is a non issue with pistols. Even more so with a red dot. As you can simply present the gun under your dominant eye.

This is a major issue with rifles however. As you need an actual alignment between multiple point of contacts.

I have an extremely bad case of amblyopia (aka lazy eye) with a left eye vision far clearer than the right (as a right handed shooter), and i only had two solutions (which none of these are "actual" solutions to begin with).

- Switch hands and shoot left handed (which feels like shit even if you force yourself to "learn" through it, i don't believe someone can be as efficient as a lefty if he was born a righty and so far no good source proved me otherwise).

- Close one eye (goodbye depth perception, peripheral vision and overall field of vision) so complete shit.

So the thing that somewhat worked for me (you won't get something perfect out of an imperfect scenario) is a small amount of clear tape on the left lens of my shooting (corrective) glasses. It tricks the brain into thinking there's an obstruction therefore giving the right eye more attention and i can find my dot this way.

Granted my vision isn't as clear since my right eye isn't good to begin with but it works and you'd be surprised what you can make out of a "meh" vision.

I don't know jack shit about olympic shooter stuff but i guess the weird ass glasses they wear serves the same general concept.

>>
>>65019024
Failure to feed mostly.
I wonder if it was mag related because 1 mag in particular I only had 3 rounds in and it had a failure to feed all 3 times.
It was not “user error”.
We all shoot a lot and I have thousands of rounds through handguns without any failures.
>>
>>65019027
>poorly maintained, I know for a fact one was cleaned recently because I’m the one who cleaned and lubed it.
The other, I have no idea.
>bad ammo
The other Glock had ammo related failures but it was not “bad ammo” the Glock just didn’t want to feed that hollow point design
>atrocious grip
100% not this, we are all great shooters and each one of us had at least 1 failure of some kind (no other guns had a single failure today)
>mags
I’ll bring this up because I think that’s what it was for the none ammo related failure. It’s possible we all had feeding issues when we got to one particular mag.

I’m thinking it was something like this.
One that was having issues with the hollow points was a gen 5 Glock 45 (9mm).
The one that kept getting ftf was a gen 4 Glock 17.
The round would be wedged in an upward position with the bullet going straight into the roof of the chamber. Would have to drop the mag and dump the bullet out to clear it.
Tried lining up the bullet properly and chambering it but the extractor wouldn’t go over the rim so the slide wouldn’t close.
I had this failure 3 times in a row with a single mag.
I saw the owner of the gun have this failure at least once.
The Glock 45 owner I’m pretty sure only had issues with the hollow points and so did I when I shot it.
>>
>>65019277
I will add it wasn’t as a result of kino wresting though. I specifically gripped the crap out of the gun after the first failure and it happened 2 more times.

Wow that's genuinely sad actually. Nighthawk really should know about that problem. I doubt they will will replace your slide but they should. They should admit the IOS cut is not as genius as they say it is.

I genuinely think the A-Cut/COA is the future of 1911 optics mounting. If you're not using an actual COA you can just get a plate adapter. If I was gonna get a slide cut for an optic right now I would pay a good shop to figure out how to mill a 1911 slide for the A cut and how to secure the rear clamp piece with a rollpin instead of screws
>>
>>65019644
Who makes that?
>>
>>65019675
The gun is already at nighthawk. The slide stop thing is weird, most of my guns are around 2014 so I think I keep buying guns during Nighthawk’s “bad” period (1911 connoisseur at my range told me about it) or rather, that’s why they’re for sale

Do you like that Harrison defense safety? I don’t

IMO the slide stop is the most finicky part of the whole 1911 and I don't really know how any company can just CNC a slide stop, even to .0005" tolerances and have it actually work perfectly with every magazine follower and spring combination, not even mentioning SSP plunger and plunger spring. there's too many variables:

>Slide stop window in the frame, specifically its height and relationship to the height of the lug on the SSP
>thickness of the slide inside the slide stop notch, and the general profile of the slide stop notch compared to the nub on the SSP
>reassembly ease notch on the side that faces rear
>width and profile of the groove that rides the underside of the frame rail
>diameter of the pin and its relationship to the barrel lugs

I guess you already sent it out and they'll fix it for you but the first thing I would do is make sure you don't have excessive plunger spring tension, which would drag on the SSP and sometimes prevent it from going up. You can use a tool to dig a small oval shaped trench in the back of the SSP if you're happy with the thumb safety tension and don't want to mess with that.

Also make sure the bottom of the frame rail isn't slamming into the SSP and creating a weird groove on the top of it. I lightly filed the top of my SSP a few times.

Yes, I like the harrison safety a lot, I like where the side of my thumb engages with it going into safe. I actually profile it fairly heavily but its not obvious from looking at it.

I had a think about that just yesterday. The short answer is, it just instantly makes me happy

I see blue anodizing and I lean forward raptly. I see a jar of pens, I'm unconsciously grabbing the blue one. I see a vivid blue car on the road, I rubberneck and say WOW look at that! and smile. It simply triggers joy, the more vibrant and pearlescent, the more spellbound I get

If I had to have a Sig, I would probably go with a West German Sig P226 or a P239. Problem with the P239 is that it's a single-stack version of the CSX-E

probably this area of the slide stop is dragging on cases as they feed up. You can actually test this with snap caps or live rounds by covering the whole area with sharpie and feeding and ejecting it over and over again, then lightly filing where rounds are making contact.

If your slide stop has left-right play you should squeeze it all the way right so its most exaggerated, even though it will walk probably walk left during shooting

I was lusting after the mk25 back in like 2015 when they first came out and then I put it out of my mind because it was too big to shove down my pants.

Now I'm finding out the mk25 actually has carbon steel parkerized components while the other P226s in the line are some sort of either DLC or cerakoted stainless steel. I have a boner for parkerizing that I can't explain. They've been out for so long, maybe I can get one for a good price
