>>65087230Thank you op.
>>65087230I built an Israeli FAL 4-ish years ago and I got a Para FAL back in December. I am tempted to part with both of those to get one of the Lebanese kits to get back to owning just one FAL. I know there is or are anons in here who bought those kits. How are they? The barrels in good shape on them? How about the rest of it too, anything look bad on them?
>>65087234I should go through this and update the prices. You aren't finding an RFB that isn't some pinned barrel monstrosity for $1200. Median price is $1500, you might get super lucky and snipe one for less that hasn't been prematurely aborted.
>>65087720I found and passed up an rfb for $700 a few weeks ago. Might see if the shop I went to in Utah still has it…
>>65085130Yeah, I want to get a set of wood furniture. I think the last time I shopped for it I stopped because I couldn't find the hardware and wasn't sure about what screws I could substitute in for the buttplate or something. Funnily enough my rifle is built from ozzy parts so I really should. On the other hand I think the plastic has a neat texture, and the black rifles in the Falklands pics looks pretty cool, though I know there was plenty of wood out there too. >>65087183Holy dooly>>65087414Yeah that's a nice looking rifle. Actually that's why I shot mine the other day, because last time I shot it, I was shooting way left. I must have dropped the rifle or something because it wasn't like that before. My rear sight is now sitting a little proud to the right which looks silly but I was hitting the gong and torsos at 330 yards so I'll take it. I think I'm gonna have to take it back out to confirm my zero though. I ordered 400 rounds of .308 so maybe next week.
>>65087234Should I get a HK417 or the New SCAR 17? are they even worth it?
>>65088088>HK417You aren't getting one, I'm not even being mean. Just go check for yourself. >new SCARNot happening unless you want someone to fuck your bank account raw. They will do what they always do with this shit: LEO/MIL first for like a year, and then they'll drip feed a small supply of civilian versions onto the market for at least another year. Those ones will inevitably have problems, so if you actually paid through the nose to get your hands on one from some rent seeking boomer you're getting what you deserve. Check back in three or four years when the gun is on its third version and most of the kinks have been worked out. If you want to buy a gun that makes you feel like you bought an HK417 and flashes your cash? Buy an LMT like the graph says. Who knows, you might get lucky and find one used.
>>65087720Be the change... you want to see.
>>65087720Image is there to stop questions like:>I got $$ what's a good battle rifle for me?>What even is/are a battle rifle?
>>65088243>If you want to buy a gun that makes you feel like you bought an HK417 and flashes your cash? Buy an LMT like the graph says. Who knows, you might get lucky and find one used.Makes me giggle when anons complain a cheaper gun on the image is a few hundred off, but never complain that the HK is about $3,000 off realistic modern prices.
>>65086146Try V7 or ADM.
>>65088538Yeah, but it could still be a bit more accurate, and other guns should be on there. The BAR/FNAR, the Desert Tech MDR, and others exist in 7.62 NATO but are absent. Likewise the prices are several years out of date. >>65088547Realistically no one here is going to buy anything modern HK as a battle rifle, that is probably why.
>>65088088You can find an MR762A4 for the same price as the graph>New SCARThey seem nice, but all the SCAR 17 had going for it at its price point was the vidya nostalgia factor, which is dead with the new versionThe HK rifle line is very seriously stilted towards DMR/precision over battle rifle usage, so budget for good glass as well>Anon recommending LMT>Because the SCAR will have QC issuesLMT is fine but be ready to send it back for work, there's a reason they have the nickname "Learning machining together"
>>65089394LMT singular parts are generally fine, complete rifles are another story. Better to buy them piecemeal.
>>65089419If they’re contract overruns, yeah. Specifically made for civilian purchase, generally no.
>>65088243>SCAR has QC problems dont buy>Buy an LMTlol
>>65089448nta but I'm a big fan of their bcg. I'll probably get their charging handle too since I don't really like the kac one.
>>65089394I should have clarified that by problems I didn't necessarily mean QC. When the SCAR came out, it didn't have any QC problems that were so endemic that they became synonymous with the rifle. What they did have was design issues. Even the OP rentry that hasn't been updated in three years makes mention of the SCAR being tough on glass. I remember the first guy on /k/ who bought one recorded himself shooting it (it was in the winter, I still remember there was snow everywhere in the vid), and he destroyed his EOTech in the video because it cracked the glass. The poor bastard hadn't even shot a hundred rounds through it. FN worked on this problem over the years, but we still know the SCAR as a gun that's tough on your glass. I foresee a similar issue with the new one. Not the same issue, but a similar one that people stumble across after owning them for a month or two. I was cautioning Anon against getting a new SCAR for that reason (and also the aftermarket sellers will rape his wallet). >>65089571I know LMT has issues but they are corrective ones. And I'd never suggest anyone but HK because I want you to have a little respect for yourself as a consumer. They're cunts. They actively hate you. And they overcharge harder than anyone because of the brand name even if what they are hocking isn't particularly special. At every turn all their business decisions seem to be guided by spite. This MP7 business is just another example to throw on the mountain of prior examples.
>take my AR10 to the range today>get better groups with cheap Igman M80 than random 168gr "match" ammoWhat's your ammo of choice?
>>65087230Ill post even though my current BR is a parts kit in a drawer. Got it for free too lmao. Would appreciate some links for a cheap barrel and flat though so i can start the fiesta.-Milkman
>>65090604HKParts for the flats. Don't ask me about barrels. I just know people don't like PTR ones.
>>65090626thanks! I was eying a barrel on sarco for like 160 bucks, I'll buy the flat near memorial day or 4th of July I reckon so i can get a like 50% discount. Also I think I reckon I can build myself a garand for around 500 so I reckon I will start saving up for that too
>>65090572175 fgm. It's out of stock everywhere locally so I shot one box and some random stuff too. I know I can get it online but I like being able to buy a box or two on the way home from work. It's been out for two weeks. I might start reloading again but I really get no enjoyment out of doing that.
>>65090467>I foresee a similar issue with the new oneThe "new one" is a small set of iterative changes to fix lingering issues from the old one>longer mlok handguard>better trigger>ambi controls>an actual shoulder on the fucking barrel>hydraulic buffer and lighter bolt carrier to mitigate the "tuning fork" optics rapeThere weren't any huge leaps taken with the gun that they couldn't have done 10+ years ago, besides maybe the new bolt carrier.>And they overcharge harder than anyone because of the brand name even if what they are hocking isn't particularly specialThe mr762 in particular is an incredibly accurate 308 gas gun, even for the price point it's at. The 9holereviews video on it is pretty good.
>>65090604You could hock the whole thing towards a complete kit that includes original barrel. Think apex still has some in stock. Decent quality barrels, too. Didn’t get a sewer pipe with mine, at least.
>>65090626What makes an hkparts flat better than one from rtg?
>>65090857If RTG has it, then get it from there. HKParts just almost always has them in stock.
>>65090767>could hock the thing towards a complete kit from apexHere's the funny thing - that IS an apex partial kit. It was a 2 for 1 deal on apex last december iirc, buy a partial L and a partial C kit for like 90 bucks. my customer (NJ fag, he cant own the C as it's specifically namebanned) was retarded enough not to get the full kit deal for like 200. He overpaid, I got a free kit, He took his L kit thinking he would build it himself, decided he was a lazy bastard and wants me to build it for him again. As for my Spanish slap battle raifu, i think ill spend the 300-400 bucks to buy the barrel and receiver just like oldfags of old
why do boomers hoard m1 garands and tell us they fought in ww2?
>>65090925No, no. I mean, apex is currently selling barreled kits, with original, headspaced barrels.
>>65091032well yeah but since there's barreled kits now, I don't reckon I could hock the partial so i could buy a barreled kit
>>65090748That doesn't mean FN won't fuck up. Would you drop 3.5k on a first gen, right off the line, SCAR? I'd scoff at the suggestion unless it was specifically to flip it.
I’m looking at buying an optic for my ptr91 and thought I’d ask here for any suggestions. I’m looking for something that’s fixed power, between 3x and 6x. Pic related is the “vibe” I’m going for
>>65091204Then your options are simple, either the Acog TA11 or the Steiner S432.
>>65091204Elcan.
What are you all using for boots when you go /out/? I'm in need of a good pair of boots for hunting next fall since my old ones finally gave out on me. Looking for something that's slightly insulated and water resistant since hunting season is usually either in cold rain or snow.

I'm looking to get a BR in .308, but keep waffling on how to go about it and need some tard wrangling. The original plan was to get a budget-to-mid-grade bolt action rifle in .308 for deer and learning longer range shooting while gradually stockpiling. Then I'd get a mid-grade AR-10 in .308 and be set. However, if an AR-10 can do both, then it might make more sense to keep saving and put the money for both rifles into a single better AR-10 and optic. On the other hand, a fully built AR-10 is a lot heavier than a .308 deer rifle and might not be as good for long range precision and typical BR stuff. Also, I have a feeling that .308 for hunting and tacticool LARPing are different enough to matter.Besides that, what is an appropriate price point to go for that isn't poorfag mode or Gucci? $1500 give or take a couple hundred feels right, but that's still in the AR-15 mindset. If practicality wasn't a concern, what I really want is a FAL Clone, but those are even more expensive and less optic-friendly unless you get something modernized enough that it takes away from the charm of a FAL.
>>65091889range and price
>>65091889For the price you want it for, I’ve never seen an AR-10 in that price range that functioned well, while on the flip side, I built a perfectly functional FAL for $1,300. Your mileage my vary on the same matter, but I’d at least look into it if I were you, there’s Lebanese FAL kits someone posted in this very thread.
>>65092247I’ve always wanted a parts kit, but there’s no way I could put it together myself and I don’t know of anyone around me that builds them except for AKs.
>>65092273Have you ever put together Legos? It’s easier than that, all you really need it a vise and some hand tools, I put mine together in my friend’s garage over a few beers before a party one time, and it was right, tight, and accurate to 600yds with irons.
>>65092280Really the hardest part was finding an FFL that didn’t charge through the ass for a receiver though.
>>65092280I’ve put together Legos and ARs. For some reason, I thought a FAL was harder than an AK to build.
>>65091889>if an AR-10 can do bothMine weighs like 20lbs I would hate to take that hunting. Not to say that you can't build one that is much lighter, I just didn't. You'll just need to be more careful with part selection if that's what you want. >for long range precision and typical BR stuffYeah I made a tradeoff and chose precision. Judging by what you have said, I would get the fal. They're awesome and you're gonna love it.
>>65092302Harder than an AR by a fair stretch unless you pay somebody to put the barrel on. Which is what I do.
>>65092247What do you mean by that? aero ar10s are great. Only have feeding issues when I put a suppressor on it.
Paki Tape on a FAL yea or nah? That said I need to change the hand guards. >>65091855Checked and seconding Kamik Foresters, Cheap, Canadian Made (This case not boo), has removable liner so you can use them in both summer and winter.
>>65076969>>65077076Anon here who was going to try and frankenstein these two parts together. Yeah, it's not happening. The wood grip from RTG is too small (length wise), and the base is also way too thin for the ring that it's supposed to go through in order for the palm shelf to mount to it. Easily a quarter of an inch or more clearance on all sizes. I am actually shocked by how small the RTG grip is. I have pretty average hands, and this thing is just /barely/ suitable for my palm. Any smaller and I'd need to return it. Any ideas guys? I am going to see if I can return the shelf (they might say no because I had to open the packaging), but I don't want a polymer grip for this. They are super easy to get, sure, but they're not anywhere near as aesthetic. The only thing I can think to do is perhaps return both and wait until HKParts eventually, maybe, gets a few in and I happen to snatch one before they sell out. Other ideas are appreciated though since that German company never got back to me.
Thinking about getting a PTR A3R in a month or so, am I a retard?
>>65093294Plane down the RTG grip and glue up additional wood. Rasp it down roughly and file finish to shape. Sand with 60grit, 120grit and 200grit. Oil with BLO and repeat. The portion to leave untouched is the upper mounting interface, the rest is your oyster.
>>65093305>am I a retard?Maybe, but not for that reason. Get it.
>>65093315Thanks, wasn't sure what the consensus on them was. I've shot the GI model and liked it, but like the looks of the A3R more.
>>65093294Without looking at the grip maybe you can plug the hole in the shelf and then drill through the plug into the grip?
>>65093305Try to find a used one unless you know something I don't and there's going to be sale. The biggest complaint people have about PTR is they can be sloppy when it comes to assembling parts, so you might run into issues but then again I've never actually seen anyone here openly state or show what issues they ran into. Beyond that, the other criticism is the barrel. PTR barrels = not long for this world. It's why people will buy original parts kits like the Belgian one that's currently on Center Fire. Even if it looks beat to hell, mechanically it is probably rock solid and the barrel almost assuredly still has its legs under it. Up to you, man, I am never against someone wanting to buy a G3 with a welded rail though but definitely try to hunt for some boomer selling one locally or on Gunbroker. No doubt you'll save yourself some money, and they'll probably throw in some mags (they're cheap, but point is the convenience of not having to buy some yourself) since they're some of the most abundant and cheapest mags on the market, period.
>>65093318I'd have to fill in the sides of the shelf, and the bottom of it as well. The grip being so small means that it doesn't come close to lining up with where you'd screw in the shelf. The other problem, is that even if I were to fill in the bottom, I'd need like a solid half inch or more extra wood to keep my pinky from being obstructed.
>>65093321Did they go downhill or something? I've always heard they were good to go, just haven't shot one in several years.
>>65093310I thought about that, but since I need to drill holes into the shelf so it can hold the shelf to the grip that the bore I'd be making would line up with the seam between the original wood and the new wood. That feels like a significant point of weakness that I've just created on two sides of the grip. I'm thinking about it, but I also don't want to just wreck the grip in a few hundred rounds.
>>65093324Something like this?
>>65093325I'm just repeating what people here consistently mention about PTR. Ultimately, it's your most (and perhaps only) reliable way of getting a G3, especially one that's at least partially modernized. The issue I have is that I don't think they are worth the 1,400-1,700 that PTR is asking for. The bonus though is that they are very abundant, and so if you look around, you might find a A3R that someone bought and never used, or used it enough so you know it's g2g. I don't see a downside either way. The second option is to buy a parts kit, get the flat and other small parts, get it put together, clean it out, and then find someone to weld a rail on top for you. You'd need to replace the furniture because it's not going to be pretty. Some people like that though, particularly on ones with wood since they can clean them up and refinish them to look nice and new, but worn like broken in leather.
>>65093340Gluing the two pieces of wood together would probably be the smarter option, but I'm worried about the stress that drilling holes into the seam might make. I'm going to think on it some more, I might just end up saying fuck it and glue two pieces of wood together since the RTG grip isn't that expensive but I also don't want to just do this and have it break and wonder why I ever thought that it would work in the first place. Either way, it's not like the rifle is going to disappear out of my safe.
>>65093332Drill holes into the grip*
>>65093340>SomethingYeah.
>>65093389Audibly keked.
>>65091245>>65091397>>65091764not bad ideas, but is there anything in the 500-700 range that will hold up well?
>>65093967I've never used this but I've seen people say it's good. It isn't fixed mag though. I could be out of the loop but the fixed mag market is pretty dismal because everyone wants an lpvo for the sick 1x cqb. A fixed 8-10x would make me so happy. https://www.eurooptic.com/sai-optics-sai-6-1-6x24mm-1-mrad-ffp-762-bdc-rapid-aiming-feature-riflescope-rng

Just won an RFB for $999. All because, I'm pretty certain, GunBroker fucked up the search results. The store's listing only appeared after I went over 20 pages deep, and none of the keyword hot links made it appear either. Thank you, Boomerbroker coders. I appreciate the deal.
>>65094680And now the gun store is trying to get me to circumvent GB's commission fees. Since it doesn't benefit me to narc, I won't.
>>65095261>circumvent GB's commissionLike when I called a guy on a Smith and we just dealt over the phn? Smooth sale, btw. No tax.
>>65096058They want my FFL to email them, and they aren't offering a discount. I don't care about GB, but at the same time, having the FFL send them an email is a hassle for me since they never answer their damn phone.

>Atlantic selling full auto G3 parts kits Nigga what the fuck? How are you supposed to even legally own that? This feels like the biggest glowing bait I've ever seen.
>>65098647oh shit did rtg put up a new batch of flats? I might have to snag me one if he did
>>65099103all fucking battle rifle kits are full auto when they get imported retard, They get demilled and Its up to you to comply with the government laws if you build it yourself.
>>65099115How the fuck do I make it semi-auto without having to buy a whole new trigger group? Or would it cost more to have a gunsmith do the appropriate work. Also, pause, while what you are saying may be true, I've never seen Centerfire glowing that bright by telling you no less than three times in marketing speak that it's a full auto gun. They usually say you can get it for parts or make a semi-auto build, not "Hey this neat kit comes with a full auto bolt carrier, it's been a full auto demilled kit but don't worry it follows the ATF guidelines! Also, it has everything you need to make a full auto weapon!" Read the way they phrase it. Atlantic's wording makes it sound like you can and should do a very retarded thing that I'm not so retarded as to even consider doing. Not even HKParts talks about their kits being full auto.
>>65099129well thats atlantic's marketing department for you. HK parts and RTG both sell the shit you need to weld onto the reciever to make it semi auto only, Its just that you will need to cut the auto sear to a certain length so it doesn't trip. easy conversion, though it sucks you have to neuter the trigger pack
>>65099103>How are you supposed to even legally own that?>>65099129>it's been a full auto demilled kit but don't worry it follows the ATF guidelines!>Original Military rifles de-milled per ATF specsIt literally says so.
>>65099184>you have to neuter the trigger packI would straight up build it with frt only.
>>65099250I don't think anyone sells G3/G36/CETME C frts, if they did, i would put one on my cetme

>>65099258>>65099272>>65099273Good shit, anons but>Not recommended for use with CETMEfugg
>>65099247I am going to throw two quotes at you from that same paragraph you are conveniently ignoring. I ran the copy by a few other people and they came to the exact same conclusion I did due to the way that Atlantic writes it up: >These kits are original full auto Military kits that have been carefully de-milled to ATF specifications and are legal to own. >These G3 parts kits contain all the parts from a functional HK G3 full auto rifle except for the barrel and receiver. If you read this as is, Atlantic makes it sound like the guns were disassembled in a manner that the ATF approved, that they come with everything you need to get them working again except the barrel and the receiver (both of these statements are true), and it's completely legal to buy those extra parts to build an automatic rifle that the ATF says is legal to own. The wording is not strict enough and if anything, it highlights the fact that the automatic functionality being intact as a feature concerning why you'd want to own this kit, rather than an enormously illegal thing to do. Doubly so since you don't even need a flat as Atlantic is literally shilling their completed receiver in the add-ons section below the bayonet. The average America reads at or below a 6th grade level, this wording (and the price) almost oozes with opportunity for the buyer to get a legit, totally legal fully automatic rifle for less than a new Glock. They put no disclaimer anywhere in the description that you cannot do this. It's negligent at best, intentionally at worst. I would really like to believe this was just overzealous attempts to shill their products, because it feels wrong otherwise that someone could rightfully, of no fault of their beyond being of average or below average IQ, buy this kit and those parts and catch multiple felonies.
>>65099272>>65099273I fucking hate Florida so much. Every day this cock shaped state pisses in my eyes.
>>65099385You are retarded and clearly not a lawyer nor a gunsmith.
>>65099385>because it feels wrongI can see you are actually quite sensitive.
>>65099385This is an unnatural interpretationThere are grey area merchants out there, the tone and writing style they use is completely different
>>65101419I shot off a message to Atlantic asking them to clarify their meaning in the item description (Can I legally make this a full auto rifle as the time description says?) And they sidestepped this in the response by saying to contact the ATF. Rather than just openly saying no, because no is the correct answer, they handed off responsibility back to the customer to contact the ATF. They are being extremely weird about the kit, IMO.
>>65099385This is low iq drivel lol>>65099385
>>65101562This has to be someone the co sequence pf being raised on youtube and not talking to boomer fudds on forums because this is every kit description since FAL build parties were a thimf in the 90s. Methinks ypure autisming a little too close to the sun there kiddo.
>>65101482>I shot off a message to Atlantic asking them to clarify their meaning in the item description (Can I legally make this a full auto rifle as the time description says?)Lol. So what did the ATF say? I mean, you did follow throuh, right? You're not just starting shit with Atlantic for the sake of starting shit, right?>I am inferring from your ad that I can make a machine gun>can I make a machine gun like you're telling me to?Also, please post the ATF response.
>>65099385>>65101482The kit is legal for civilians to buy because the pushpin trigger group won't fit on a commercially available completed receiver with a semi-auto shelf. If you take the select-fire trigger group and work on it so that it can fit on the shelf, you've made an illegal conversion part. Or if you take a flat receiver and fold and weld it without the semi-auto shelf (and three pushpin holes) you've made an illegal machine gun. What is usually done with the kit is to send it off to someone who will convert the trigger group into a semi-auto one that fits on the shelf (along with assembling the rest of the rifle) . Or you can just buy a semi-auto trigger group already made.An FFL can legally make a kit into a select-fire rifle if they do the correct paperwork and are selling it to the government. They cannot sell it to civilians as a transferrable machine gun.Know what you're doing when you buy a G3 kit. Building it into a working rifle requires tools (welder, jigs, shop press) and knowledge, so it's not cheap to pay someone to do.
Lizard up for bidding.
>>65091204>>65091245>>65091397>>65091764Watch out for low eye relief when considering putting a fixed prism scope on a G3. I put a Primary Arms 5x36 Gen III on a PTR, and it gives me scope bite when shooting in the prone or sitting. It's a great optic for an AR, but the G3 recoil causes it to hit my eyebrow. Switching the PTR over to an LPVO with a little more eye relief.
>>65103292Thats why I rec'd the TA33, double the eye relief of other COGs
>>65091397>Elcanlooking to get one for my SCAR 17.I'm leaning towards the 1-4x since I heard that on 1x, I can keep both eyes open and use it like a standard red dot and that 4x is 'good enough' for the accuracy inherent to the rifle and M80 ammo.
>>65103669I think the 1-4 is what I want too. I've never seen an elcan in person but I found a new gun store near me that has the 1.5-6x in stock so maybe tomorrow I'm going to check that out.
>>65103292Put the butt closer to your shoulder.
>>65102787>Or you can just buy a semi-auto trigger group already made.I'll just do this. I know a guy who can bend and weld the flat for me. I still have to drop off my CETME-C for him to also work on.
>>65103046After all these years, I still appreciate you Truck-kun, even tho no one on this website would buy old used military vehicles for tens of thousands of dollars randomly one day.

VA ban upcoming, want to get a good 308 rifle. Split between a MR762 or an LMT. Or praying that a SCAR-17 goes on sale again
>>65106777It’s not a question of weight, it’s a question of cocking my neck in a terrible angle and scrunching up my arms into non-Euclidean geometry
>>65106841LMT will be easier to fuck with after the ban comes down in regards to shipping parts and “upgrades” of both the legal and illegal variety. Illegal in regards to state, not federal, law.
>>65106373Yes, the issue is that you pretty much only will find them on Boomerbroker/eBay since no one imports them anymore (afaik), but also who gives a shit because there's a ton of them? And finally, they're a good optic that's completely slept on due to ACOGs, EOTech, and Vortex. That's the wonderful thing about markets. Different markets have different affinities for different products because they know about those products, and so the manufacturer can command a higher price. Happens all the time, you should be used to the inverse. No one can off-load that Steiner they never use for $1200 burger coins if no one even knows they exist. I would get one, but I don't need one, and still I am considering buying one anyway in case I get yet another rifle. But then I am not worried about the supply drying up, or the demand causing them to skyrocket in price so I can just go buy more suppressors instead.
Is $1500 OTD fair for a 1993 M1A with USGI parts? I've seen some people get them for as low as $1275 but am unsure if that's a going rate or just lucky steals.

I wonder if this has something to do with perceived unemployment. >>65106982I see why.
>>65106982Depending on what mark of the Mk762 he gets, it's frankly going to be cheaper than any SCAR17. Mk1's go for like $2250 which is the same price as a basic bitch LMT, iirc. The novelty of having it nice in a sea of G3s.

>7.62x51 ball mixed sources, 125 roundsWhy do Boomers do this? It was all the lead in the air and water, right?
>>65110849>bidding on ammowhat the fuck
>>65110860Happens all the time at estate sales, too. They often bring it right up to or beyond what the ammo would sell for NIB. Then you have to factor in the auction fees, and the taxes... The only explanation, to me, is the lead in the water.
Bois I'm at a crossroads. No matter what I do with this rifle I cannot get better than 5-6 MOA with it at 100Y. It's a 2020 era M1A standard. Bassett Machine scope mount, Vortex Precision rings, Nikon P308 scope. Thing's I've done:>removed, cleaned, and re-mounted/re-torqued all optic bolts to spec>shot from the bipod, rear supported>shot supported on the stock with rear bag>shot with 3 different kinds of precision ammo including 175g sierra match king bthp>shot with irons only>had another shooter try the rifle for groups>cleaned the barrel and re-grease the actionnb4 you just can't shoot. I can do sub-MOA all day long with my Bergara 6.5C and 1.5 MOA from my 16" AR15. So now I'm trying to decide. Do I send the rifle back to Springfield and have them go through it, or do I just cut my losses and sell it for something else? I've honestly never felt more defeated by a rifle.
>>65110849I'm guessing the first 3 bids were low and then he put that $125 in himself through an alt? No way people are paying $1/round for a bag of mixed loose ammo.

>>65123260It wasn't free, but I wanted an RFB and there weren't fuck all for good deals. The closest to a "deal" were like three people selling pinned barrel RFBs with something like eight inch long faux suppressors. No fucking idea why they all had basically the same gun. Worse, they are all mostly selling well over retail. Anyway, I was searching through all the results for accessories because Keltec discontinued most accessories for it. I stumbled across a wayward listing for an RFB that was selling for $999. For whatever reason, it wouldn't show up if I tried to narrow the search results on Gunbroker, so the only way you'd find it was if you had done what I did and gone through like 30-40 pages. I waited until the very last minute to make sure someone else wasn't squatting it, dropped a bid for $999 and won. Most of the rounds on that old one were with an old barrel that was majorly overgassed. So far so good with the new one.
>>65129251I really wanted one, that is, until I shot one. It kinda sucks. I guess I still want one, but I'm looking for a collector rifle, not a shooter. Also, the stock needs to be perfectly fitted, or you'll see groups potentially as bad as 1 meter at 100 meters. Because many of the SVT40s are reworked, you won't see good fitting stocks very often.G43 is cool, but not really a gun you can take out shooting without constantly worrying. The "shooter's kit" is bullshit since the metal has spent all these years getting overstressed, the damage is already done, the kit won't be enough. There's lots of stories of cracks opening up after the shooter kit was installed. I have a G43, but it's a matching bringback with some history, not a shooter.G41 is a better option. It's way better quality, but has a higher price point. I have 2 of them, and they're great. Is the Hakim banned? That is a cheap and brilliant rifle. It's my go-to surplus BR. >>65140248Hey, yeah I used the FALtools receiver wrench. You should find him on FAL files. I bought it back in 2017/early 2018 though so who knows. Are you sure building is your best bet? I stopped building them in 2020 because I thought then it was more expensive to build, especially for a one off. Anyway, good luck.
>>65139702>And the Volvo C304 6x6 is ending. Make a better camper than any Toyota based Chinook, tho much smaller.Swede ex-conscript here, you're wrong about that. These vehicles are genuinely fucking amazing in some regards, but they aren't suited to civilian use except for in a few extremely specific situations. They've been out of production for like 40 years, but they're still in prominent and active military service with no replacement vehicles lined up for the foreseeable future, that should tell you all about how good they are in their designated role. These things are tall and skinny, with huge off-road tires, solid portal axles with leaf springs all round, locking diffs on all axles, an extremely low range transmission, and HUGE ground clearance. These features makes them unbelievably capable off-road. They're leagues above just about anything made for the commercial market. They can wade through swamps with ease and casually climb up seemingly shear cliffs that no wheeled vehicle should ever be reasonably be expected to climb. This extreme focus on off-road capabilities means that they suck on paved roads. You don't want to take one of these things on an extended road trip. They're NOT comfy to drive or ride in, and they're extremely sketchy to drive at speeds exceeding about 40mph.Your average "van-life" enthusiast would be FAR better served just buying something that's far worse off-road, yet far superior on the road.
>>65140293I live in the 3rd worst state (California, sorry New Jersey and New York) and we have an additional 11% tax on complete firearms. The cheapest used 21" FAL in the state RN is $1975 after that tax. Building it is only gonna be like $1500 even after budgeting for the wrench because I only have to pay that tax on the $400 DSA receiver, and that $475 saved will help a bunch with ammo and all the 10 round mags I'll have to buy. That's not even accounting for all the gas money I save not having to drive from the Mojave to Sacramento where that used FAL is.
>>65140456>400 DSA receiverOkay yeah that'll probably save a bit of money. I was thinking you'd build with an Imbel receiver. When I was building I never went with the DSA receiver because I was worried about fitment issues and having to send it off to get fixed.
>>65140619>I was worried about fitment issues and having to send it off to get fixed. Are those common with DSA? I figured they were my best (and only) option since the only new or used rifles I ever see are DSA SA58s. I don't think Imbels are banned by name via the Roberti Roos list like FN made ones are, but I never see them for sale here.
>>65135864>I really wanted one, that is, until I shot one. It kinda sucks. I guess I still want one, but I'm looking for a collector rifle, not a shooter.>Also, the stock needs to be perfectly fitted, or you'll see groups potentially as bad as 1 meter at 100 meters. Because many of the SVT40s are reworked, you won't see good fitting stocks very often.Well, that's good to know though unfortunate. Might go for one regardless but won't expect any real accuracy out of it.>G43 is cool, but not really a gun you can take out shooting without constantly worrying. The "shooter's kit" is bullshit since the metal has spent all these years getting overstressed, the damage is already done, the kit won't be enough. There's lots of stories of cracks opening up after the shooter kit was installed. I have a G43, but it's a matching bringback with some history, not a shooter.>G41 is a better option. It's way better quality, but has a higher price point. I have 2 of them, and they're greatThe first and only time I've seen a G41, it sold for $8k which is out of my price range. As for the G43s, that would be more attainable, I think I'd be able to mitigate the issues through reloading and getting a later rifle that wasn't shot much.>Is the Hakim banned? That is a cheap and brilliant rifle. It's my go-to surplus BR. Absolute bliss to shoot and the action is fun to work.Already have one and really like it, but I still want another battle rifle.
>>65140353>Your average "van-life" enthusiast>I'm not average, I've been tested! But thanks that sounds as awesome as they look.
Today I joined the REAL FUCKIN NATO gang
>>65140920Oh, this is a good day.>one... of.... us!
>>65140920Now you need a bipod for it to make it kino. Carry handle makes it extra kino as well. Debating on selling my spare one.
>>65135864>surplus>costs more than an Imbel (if you know how to haggle even a little)What is this gay earth?
>>65140760I think they're probably better now. Back when I was into building they were regarded as often being out of spec and with dudes having timing issues when screwing their barrels in. This might just be a myth pushed by gun plumber - if you don't know about him, you'll see a lot of his posts on FAL files. Anyway he builds FALs for his business and he has a big hard on for DSA. Maybe it was just a narratie for him to push so guys would send him their FAL kits with DSA receivers, rather than building it themselves. In any case getting imbel receivers then was tough, ca 2017 I paid like 700 bucks for them, and the other two FALs I built I rebuilt from century rifles built on Imbels. That might also be a good option, just get a century FAL built on an imbel receiver, they're usually pretty good. Pic rel is one, and its quite nice. Just australian L1A1 parts on a forged imbel receiver.
>>65141195Hell yeah bro>>65141218The carry handle, though useless, is aesthetic as fuck.
Should i remove my 3x prism from my FAL and put on an aimpoint/magnifier combo and just accept i got a 300yd ak that shoots da big boolet?
>>65141331Why do you want to make your gun worse and heavier? Am I missing something?
>>65141331keep the 3x or go irons. never use red dot on a BR.
Iron sights on a fal are the last goddamned thing you wanna use. Two planes of focus independent of each other and moving freely on a hand tight pivot pin with slop measurable in fractions of an inch is not conducive to accuracy. So, no iron sights. The pa prism is so shit though. Its chinzy, slow, shoots well but its not precise. Its only saving grace is its modularity with all its little spacers, and super decent eye relief and a diopter that allows you to fit it pretty well to yourself. Still feels shitty though when youre doing anything but looking at a target from a bench.
>>65091528I wear red heads, calf high. This was -14°f
>>65141389I have no problem hitting 1 ft targets at 600yds with irons on my FAL, once I replaced my damaged rear with a click adjustable DSA installed with a rubber mallet, and the sight got dialed in, it’s pretty trivial to do really, so, skill issue on your part I guess.
>>65141508>-14°f>enjoying torture
>>65142357Yeah it only really gets bad at -20f
>>65141331I started with a 1X and magnifier, I now run just a 3X prism.
I went to the range today with a friend who brought his new PTR. It was cool having the big three together. Anyway for those wondering, I owned a few PTRs over the years, including an early JLD, and the quality of the new PTR seemed on part with what I had before. Might have to get me one.
its time
>>65143567For coffee?
>>65143580Yea with a lot of milk
>>65087356Good. Haven’t been any complaints about them.>>65093348I did a clapped out g3 build, it was fun.

>>65125035I am trying to get the muzzle device off this so I can remove the weird picatinny sleeve from Keltec. I need some help. I thought it was fixed on with Rockset, so I boiled the barrel for an hour and while I was able to get it to shift one quarter turn, I couldn't get it to move any further. I threw it back in the pot for another half hour, still nothing, and so I called it. I am buying a new thermal gun to bring the MD well beyond what Loctite Red requires to loosen up, and I will give that a shot when it arrives tomorrow. I am looking for some ideas as to what else I could try or what else the guy who previously owned this might have used. I have no way of contacting him since it was a purchase from a gun store in another state, and they bought it off someone else. Because I could get it to turn, it definitely isn't pinned (would be insane if it was in the first place), so I'm hoping someone else here might have some notion of what to try next over the next few days.
>>65140353Unrelated, but ain't those the milbriks with the 50s b36 v8 in em? I always wanted one of em engines to put in a p1800, make the Swedish corvette stingray that never was
