Is the Adira the cheapest US made Magnacut foldable in the market? Also anyone have a Govx account? Right now they have the Adira Mini for $143 but I heard with their BBFS sale it goes all the way down to around $102. And I'm not in a hurry to buy so I can wait till November. >>65137808>>Microtech = Porsche, excellent and make people jellyI'd argue closer to a Land Rover: Looks nice, great pedigree, premium cost, some special editions that would knock the socks off Liberace, but there's these little niggling issues that keep sabotaging itself, keeping it from being considered "S-tier".
I hope this counts. It does have a blade on it. Current "at work knife". Roxon multitool is fantastic. Swap out the tools as you see fit. I had to go into a school a few times, so I took the actual knife off of mine and replaced it with a scalpel attachment. Now I can carry anywhere! Having a removeable/replaceable blade is real handy. They have all kinds of cool stuff. I just got the pliers, and I aint super fond of them though. Too small for even safety wire. I replaced a scraper (great for gasket removal) and the knife blade to fit it because it takes 2 slots. I use this guy all day long. It is a terrible replacement for the correct tool, but sometimes I dont want to walk all the way back to my toolbox for a flathead. The knife that I will probably be putting back on it is a sheepsfoot with a slight curve in D2 steel. I don't mind the D2 as it sharpens really easily. I keep a ceramic 1000g stone in my car and my wallet works as a strop. Outside of work, I usually carry either a benchmade osborne (stupid butterfly tax, but it is a nice blade), spyderco pm3 lightweight (you know I got that zip tie on it), or a morakniv companion when I need something more substantial.
>>65139610just to be clear i like both honda and spyderco. they just strike me as weird in the same way.

So what exactly do we do in this hobby?>buy expensive knives>maintain them>keep them sharp>use it to open Amazon boxes and maybe slice your stekki>no really worth using for self defense over a gun>most of us have a CCWI mean maybe if I lived in a 3rd world shithole where guns are not allowed or something...
>>65137631Ontario Rat 1.5 in Magnacut is like 95 bucks.and yes, MagnaCut is worth the hype. before it the best stainless steel knives that were "balanced" was the s30v/s35vn/s45vn knife steels. magnacut is stronger, better corosion resistance or edge retention than these steels.which all 3 of them were in a 3 way deadlock where one was stronger than the other or one was better edge retention than the other. so when you buy a Magnacut steel knife you are getting something that is a legitimate step above previous iterations and has made a lot of steels obsolete. >>65137681this guy is just being obtuse because he thinks its a gimmick. shows what he knows.
>>65140693we just like knives desu. i need one at work. and its a very simple tool so there are trillions of variations to compare and find what you like.
>>65140708rat is not usa made thobut that anon clearly doesnt give a fuck what knives are usa made since he just refuses to believe hogue or kershaw exist and are cheaper than the adira
>>65140708This thing is pretty gimmicky and I don't even if the ultra thin design is going to end up being the worst part about it, but I'll probably get the Vapyr once it comes out. I have a government discount so the price wouldn't be too too bad.
>>65140693well you see it started when i was working at an outdoor company, and i really wanted a knife, because every man needs a knife. and i needed one for outdooring. then it morphed to EDC and carrying one everyday. i mean when you have that kind of attitude, yeah anything can seem stupid. what do you have better to waste money on? whats got your panties in a bunch?dont like outdoors? dont like EDC?
>>65140728I never said any of that, stop getting so triggered. I was just asking what appeals to everyone, I for instance think they look cool. But unlike guns or watches they're not really worth collecting because they inherently lose a lot of value. You can buy a G45 Blue Label for $550 and resell it for $700. You can suck a Rolex salesman off so he can sell you a Panda, then resell it for 3 times it value if you want. You buy a knife and expect to instantly lose most of its value. Therefore its more slop than true collecting.TL;DR - why do we need more than one knife?
>>65140727i mean clearing the air, benchmades designs are heavily geared towards outdoor enthusiast. so if you are buying one of these it should be to take backpacking. or mountain biking, or canyoneering. or wherever you go outdooring. i mean the 3 basic categories for knives are 1. Tactical/Self Defense2. Outdoors3. EDCyou can EDC a tactical knife. or a outdoor knife. but not every EDC knife is tactical or outdoorsy in nature. but i think people should own 3 different styles of knives. and should be mindful of why they are buying what they are buying. i mean i have a bugout that i use for EDC. but if i ever go backpacking, ill probably take it because its lightweight and just the best one for that adventure.
>>65140742>You buy a knife and expect to instantly lose most of its valuedepends entirely on brand, ive sold plenty for what ive paid. and there are plenty of watches that lose value after msrp>Therefore its more slop than true collecting& since when is collecting only about making money? thats speculating not collecting>why do we need more than one knife?some are folding some are fixed. some are thick some are thin. some are flat ground some are hollow. some are big some are small. some have metal handles some dont. they all have marginal differences in function
>>65140742>>65140757here i just explained it.
>>65140727is this the same axis lock variation they used on the narrows? if so its a pretty neat mechanism
>>65140762Yea, combining the axis lock from the Narrows this should be the first model of the next iteration of the Bugout series.
I use my folding knife to cook since it slices bread without making them crumple.
The Benchmade Narrows is name the Narrows not because its the best EDC knife. but because its the best knife to take with you though the Narrows.WOAH how about that one. Also i heard that the Narrows sucks anyways. too expensive and not as good design as the bugout anyways but i would like to see if they learned from the complaints about the narrows from the "cough cough" not backpacking community on why it sucks. then again since benchmade upped their pricing so high, that i think benchmade SUCKS!
>>65140779i havent owned one (due to it being $500 lmao) but the narrows mechanism is cool. no omega spring, instead has this twisty thing. hopefully this is benchmade addressing the omega spring problem. this would be an improvement if on a bugout (and if not $500)
>>65140708Magnacut has middling edge retention, no better and sometimes worse than those other 3 mentioned, but is much more tough and corrosion resistant than s30v/s35vn/s45vn. It has better edge retention than tough budget steels like 420HC, 14C28N and AUS8.
>>65140807It's going to be on a Bugout. A $350 Bugout sadly.
>>65140807yeah im not a big fan of the crossbar style locks. at first they are so cool, because how easy they are to open and the lock is stronger than other knife locks on the market. but that omega spring shit is doo doo. I have have seen enough omega spring failures to know that that they suck. but i would like to see the failure rate of the narrows lock design. that spring does look better than a omega spring.
>>65140808yeah, that is true, those steels are slightly better in edge retention than magnacut. but the trade off is that its suppose to be stronger and more stain resistant for a marginal loss in edge retention. but good news is that the Magnamax is suppose to be as strong as the s30v/s35vn/s45vn steels while a significant increase in edge retention and a marginal increase in corrosion resistance. Magnacut should be more useful on overbuilt folders and fixed blades, where magnamax may only be good for folding blades. i don't know the numbers on for it. but its suppose to be stainless k390. so 8.5 edge retention, 5 toughness, and stainless could be like 8. which is loads better than the s30v/s35vn/s45vn. but it may not stack up as a fixed blade. but I'm not a knife maker just an enthusiast, but i know Fallkniven uses VG-10 steel for fixed blades which is a 4 on toughness, and plenty of other knife makers have used like esee has s35vn. so if they think 5 toughness is enough for a fixed blade. then magnamax might be also a steel used for fixed.
>>65140838in general coiling is better than bending. dont ask me why i dont remember physics. probably why we've heard less about manix springs breaking than omega springs. so hopefully the narrows style is also superior to omega.
>>65140821i will have to acquire more of these then
I will never understand the concept of steel, like I only cut cardboard and plastic ties with a S90V. Yet somehow there are a ton of micro chips, I rather have an edge that gets dull than micro chips. Someone explain why this knife chips harder than something from China?
>>65140884when i was just getting into knives, i didn't quite understand the significance of the shark lock being released. but it makes more sense when the manix 2 lock and the shark lock are similar, and look to achieve is stronger lock up and reliability.....reliability over the omega springs because lets be honest that design isn't always what its cracked up to be and knife people don't want to be honest that it sucks. i personally believe that the spring design in these knives are currently the peak design for knife locks. and if other companies don't figure out their own bread and butter design, they will be subjugated to shark lock supremacy.
>>65140902because when you increase the edge retention of steel, it makes it the steel harder. but in the process of making the knife steel harder, it makes it more brittle. so if you have s90v steel which is a high edge retention steel with low strength then it would add up that its chipping. like comparing it to magnacut, you get nearly double the edge retention of s90v over it, but magnacut is double the strength.

This feels like retarded “board culture”, or “tradition” for the sake of it, rather than for any good reason. >>65140904I agree about the Manix lock. Peak crossbar style design. When it's locked it connects the knife and locking piece to the handles with three pins, which means it can be securely bolted to a plastic handle without having to include any extra liners. Also because it doesn't use omega springs, it doesn't need a chunky layer between the liners to hosue the springs, which means the knife can be thinner, and have less places for dirt to accumulate.
>>65141089I just use Blade HQ's because it simpler to use than one of these charts. and yes, they take from Larrin's work for their steel charts.
what is the consensus on 15v> worth it?i had a para 3 lw in 15v when they first came out but ended up flipping it because i had too many spydercos. now i kinda want a para 3 again and it seems like everyone loves 15v now are there other para 3 (normal or lw) sprint runs i should look for other than 15v
>>65141251Yeah, they are cheap and marked up to sell to home chef hobbyists. It could be a good learner stone if someone was going to sharpen cheap knives for practice, but diamonds are recommended for supersteels.
>>65141299there is some controversy about 15v steel because Crucible industries closed. the new company Erasteel do not have ovens hot enough to produce 15v. so its limited supply. lots of people are trying to buy it to get a knife in that steel, or they are merely buying it to scalp people.me personally i sleep on 15v. its 10 on edge retention, 3 on toughness, and a 4 on corrosion resistance. i think the main appeal of this knife is that its suppose to be one of those steels "stays sharp forever" but the trade off is that its not a hard use knife. and its not stainless. so its suppose to be rewarding that you knife never dulls. i mean it will eventually dull, but not for like 1000 cuts.and the reason i was never interested in 15v, is because of its cons. its pretty weak, its easy to rust or corrode and when you will eventually have to resharpen it, it could be a bit of a hassle.which in my eyes, MagnaMax actually outclasses 15v. MagnaMax is suppose to be stainless k390. which the attributes could be 8.5 on edge retention, 5 on toughness, and at least a 7 on corrosion resistance, maybe even higher like a 8 or 9. so Magnamax will see like a 15% loss in edge retention, but you it will be stronger significantly and more importantly stainless. which benchmade and spyderco have in the past regularly used s30v on their outdoor folding knifes, which s30v is also a 5 on toughness. so that why i just don't care about 15v. it seems like a lot of FOMO over a steel that is quite prissy if you don't baby it and the best application for it, is just to slice cardboard. no offense to the guy who made it, but its already been outdated and who really gives a shit when a couple months from now you will be able to get MagnaMax probably on a Spyderco or Benchmade without having to fight retards who think they are going to get rich of shorting the market over a steel that only the most autistic people who care about knife steels really would care about.
>>65141341i mean ive seen the stats on 15v but wondered what its actually like to own. i cant imagine toughness matters that much on a 3" folding knife but then again i am pretty light duty im also suspect of the magnamax hype... it just seems too soon after magnacut and every brand realized how nice having a universally hyped steel was. i was eyeing one of the mule teams whenever they launched magnamax... idk we will see.i do love s30v, i still have a s30 bugout, and this s35vn impinda. if s35vn became the new d2 type go-to-budget-steel i would be absurdly happy. the s30 family is literally fine for all of my needs.
I impulse purchased the "kit" from fox knives a while back. It's like a fat version of the cold steel mini tuff lite, but with an even thinner hollow grind. I heard bad stuff about fox knives but I'm very impressed by the overall quality of this knife.
>>65141280Fuck this shit. Steel is steel.
