Keep this in /gq/. No sharing, traitor.
>>
>>65168185
That's not too surprising. M855 vs PE and M193 vs steel isn't a silver bullet situation, it's velocity dependent and also depends on the specific grades of materials in the armor. Old school PE can't even stop 7.62x39 MSC.
PRIME was able to make a relatively reliable M855 stopping PE plate at about 1.3" thick using mystery meat, and there's now about half a dozen known PE plates that stop M855. It's feasible a good historical model like the 2113MC could if backed by quality IIIA.
>>65168347
I think LTC did with the 28601s what Highcom did with the 4SAS4. Leftover materials, assembled a final run, passed them off to vendors and didn't tell them what the fuck they actually do and don't do.

Emperor probably has the same problem. Adept told me it's a "true IV", so don't expect much better performance than a 4800.

Oof, but check em. They can now make the pimp cloaks in M81, tiger stripe, and other camos like MULTICAM.
>>
>>65168411
If they come with armor, $40 is pretty good. If its just the vest its going to be very mid. Most of these suck as load bearing platforms and don't really keep up with industry trends. If you want a good surplus carrier, theres plenty of good options you can find on ebay, tacswap fb marketplace etc. If you want good soft armor coverage, a surplus balcs vest like a ciras is a good choice. They can often be found for under $100.

>>
>>65168492
Yeah, well, Level IV plates tend to get pretty flimsy once you get below 5.5lb, so dropping a pound from that means there's going to be compromises, even with a novel B4C-TiN ceramic and it's $3,100+ a set.
Still stops M2AP with less than 25mm BFD sans drop test.
>>
>>65168505

The greek tragedy of RMA. From cheat rings to kind okay plates and back to cheat rings but they're invisible this time.

Man, with Apex and RMA simultaneously getting sued for different things, Highcom continuing to be a penny stock, Stealth allegedly owing the Chinese money, and Midwest not shipping shit, we're really shaping up for the latter half of the 2020s in armor being dominated by the... Chinese.

>>
>>65168568
Best they can do is IIIA man.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/4402447950/nij-iiia-ballistic-shield-tactical?
>>
>>65168585
Chief, a .458 Winmag has a ~600ft/s advantage on a .45-70, and a .375 H&H about the same. Odds are decent they'll both pierce, especially if projectile geometry is good and/or the shield is fiberglass or rather cheap PE. If steel then you MIGHT be okay.
A .45-70 produces roughly 120mm or so versus IIA soft armor, and shields are held to lower standards than body armor, with no BFD limit under shields' 0108.01 versus body armor's 0101.0X, so there could be issues even in spite of a IIIA shield's higher rating.
>>
>>65168585
Actually, come to think of it, you'd probably be okay with a Level III PE shield if you can raise from IIIA, since all-poly plates / shields do handle non-AP, highly energetic rounds well. VetsMFG used to sell a 4lb PE plate that could "stop" .50 BMG AMAX but with very high BFD, albeit still losing outright to M855, so if you wanna stop big game rifles with your shield then something similar is your ticket.

No problem, hit up Jinwudun or Botach for options.
https://jinwudun.com/collections/bulletproof-shield
Botach has a Level III 12x24 9.5lb for $450 which seems appealing. Just keep in mind no dice versus M855 unless velocity is low.

>>65168505
Alright, so pointers so far:
Highcom is good, Hardwire 57 is still cock blocked but you CAN buy Level II Hardwire 51 without credentials. I would add that in since unless fast 9x19 or .44 mag or needing to back ICW plates are problems, you can usually get away with II vs IIIA.
Shield defense is good. Militech good. I would maybe make the pictures smaller and put the text to the right so we can put in more options without getting cramped for space. I need to find them again but there are some interesting IIIA+ panels coming out of Europe with advertised capabilities similar to that Omniprotex - which needs to get on this list pronto.

Very nice. I gave you some pointers in >>65168629. Also here's the buffman data on the OPX-ELITE vs the OPX-ULTRA. So the Ultra also picks up Stab Level I, meaning it has the same protection there as Safelife's IIIA+.
Beats Liberty Civil at 2,501 and 2,593ft/s, which is fucking outstanding. Safelife's IIIA+ is only tested for up to 2,067ft/s against the same threat. Roughly 200ft/s advantage versus the Elite. That Black Dragon Fang 5.7 is interesting business, a real "IIIB" threat. About $2.50/shot if anyone wants some.

Fun fact, since Stealth Armor Systems uses Adept's SiC-TiB2, and now Adept is using B4C-TiN to get similar Level IV performance but with a 25% weight reduction, it is feasible for Stealth's DragonSkin to get similar reductions, if supplied the same ceramic, and maintain the same performance against steel core threats if you're willing to cough up ridiculous sums of money.
You're probably looking at ~10k for a full coverage "vest" Level IV getup and you'll get still clocked by M995 out of a 20" probably maybe actually.
>and yes, pic rel is the only known picture of the Ceradyne 2572575 anywhere. Arguably the most esoteric of the three "Super Ceradynes" - the 4lb quasi-IV SAEC, 5.3lb Swiss P AP 96034, and this multi-hit 5.7lb M993 / Swiss P (?) 2572575.

Word is John feels very confident he'll get off and the charges are based in fiction. I'd rather this not be an RMA v. John Doe I & II situation, so my advice: watch what you say in case it turns out he's clean. He's got every right to go after people for defamation.

>>
>>65170157
Thanks for the info, didn't see that. 500k is less than I would expect given the severity of charges, especially the "rape at gunpoint" in count #1.
Prosecution still needs to show proof BARD, which is gonna be very difficult to meet unless there's a hell of a lot more than she-said-he-said.
>>
>>65169859
Nah it's probably gonna be SIG, let's be real. I'm liking the sound of this, especially if it gets commercialized and we can buy the beefed up uppers and ammo made to HICAR spec.
M855 has a sporting use exemption, so even though it's inferior to A1 it probably will still do a number on Hesco 3810s and such if boosted a couple hundred ft/s in a M855+ spec.
This also means there's a future "ARP+" problem down the road in a few years. Current poly plates might not age well.

What they "need" is for the jury to decide. You need a lot less than beyond a reasonable doubt, which the actual jury needs, to file charges.
They're probably thinking they'll be able to get BARD through discovery, witness statements, expert witnesses, and other evidence. You need to file charges first to get to these steps. I'm not a lawyer, but I'd be willing to bet a lot of this hinges on whether a rape kit was done and whether "AP" (alleged victim) has injuries consistent with the charges. That will require expert testimony. Audiologist for the alleged flashbang, for one. If her eardrums are ruptured or something and it just happened conveniently with the alleged events, that's strong.

DEAL ALERT (maybe?)
Gilliam is running a sale, for some reason, on the Helion 2.5lb RF1 all-PE plate he launched like two months ago. $189/plate on ebay.
So the story behind the weight increase from 2.1lb to 2.5lb is that the original 2.1lb version kept losing to 7.62x39 mild steel core, but stopped 7.62x51mm M80 and 5.56 M193 fine. Plate got beefed up to 2.5lb for headroom reasons.

Chief, the 3801 uses top-shelf Honeywell Spectra and the Gilliam Helion uses fresh off the boat Chinese white meat UHMWPE. There is a nearly fourfold difference in price between the two.
>>
File: 1635 america.png (290 KB, 1263x953)

Also Gilliam's 1635 RF3 / Level IV plate is on sale for $199 a plate. Stops 2x .30-06 M2AP at NIJ spec after a double drop. 1" thick, 6.5lb for a 10x12.
The reason why this mogs the Hesco 4403 is because the 4403 uses fiberglass backing just like Level IV plates from the mid 1970s, but the 1635 uses Chinese white meat PE which is both cheaper and more effective. China can make UHMWPE for basically nothing it's ridiculous. You can go on made-in-china.com and buy Linry "Level IV" plates for less than $30 a plate. (Don't do that).

multicam for functionality, specific camos for specific climates, anything else for fun. I love m81 and will die by it, but realistically, I'd be wearing multicam

Do micro chest rigs have a place in the modern loadout?
I own both a micro and a regular.
The micro is way more comfortable and carries what I need but it’s limited to 3 mags as opposed to 8 in my full size.
However, with the micro I have much easier and convenient access to my battle belt and I can actually fit bigger things like mags on the belt that I can’t with the full sized rig.
Only reason I ask is because I saw a discussion where a lot of people seemed to argue the doctrine for a civilian should be a full sustained combat loadout and they were kind of hating on the micro rigs.

No one size fits all. What are you doing? Where are you going? What is the environment like? Context dictates. There are plenty of circumstances where a small/limited rig makes sense, there are plenty of circumstances where it does not. Let the situation, objective, environment and common sense guide you.

recommendations for similar thin/tall garrison type boots?

I wore danner tachyons for my hospital job for years and the first two pairs lasted quite a while and were great, but I just rebought them for a third time and the quality and I think even the last have changed and are now dogshit. I havent even worn the texture off the tread lugs yet and I already have stitches popping and the fabric already ripped behind an ankle.

I like thin unpadded boots that are tall so I can keep my laces up and out of the way of piss and vomit and blood.
I also don't want mesh/airy uppers for obvious reasons but fuck at this point I'm even open to leather.
Shittex need not apply.

If you are a "civilian" you are going to at most have to protect your immediate area from looters before cops or nasty girls roll up. There will never be a total collapse where military units are raiding civilians but rather military cordons on areas that may last weeks, couple months tops while authorities reestablish control.

I wear arctic MC when feeding polar bears marshmallows in a snow storm, so yeah.

Where do micro rigs shine?
>classes/matches where you need extra mags on body without a bunch of extra sustainment shit
>exploring over longer distances/larger areas with a reduced threat matrix (likely in conjunction with a ruck)
>Civil unrest/increased threat matrix situations where a smaller rig can be concealed under a windbreaker or Carhartt.

When do micro rigs stop making sense?
>threat matrix escalates well beyond Civil Unrest into WROL where chest rig/plate carrier visibility is no longer a concern (legally, socially)
>any venture with limited resupply or extended duration where you must storagemaxx on both your front and back

I commend you for already having both a heavy rig and a micro rig and would suggest you keep and maintain both
