Resin printed stuff usually has a much nicer finish but a lot less structural strength than extruded. But for a grip I don't know that I'd worry much about the structural strength.

Shout out to whoever reccomended the Shooters Global GO shot timer, really enjoyed this thing. Got to run my buddy through his first draw drills, he was having a blast and really enjoyed getting to see himself improve with the timer.

Asking again. Need opinions regarding Tanfoglio 1911s like picrell. I'd like a 9mm 1911 stainless but i'm not sure this one is reliable enough. It's either this one or a turk one around 1k. Last range sesh was next to a guy shooting a competition Tanfo Stock of some sort (~1500+ bucks), poor guys had ton problems (ftf, fte, and so on).

NTA but litterally anything is better than turkshit.
the tanfo are nice and will work, i don't know if HP rounds will cause jams like in the original 1911 so you'll have to try it yourself.

I just wanted to know, to know your other options.

It's a good handgun, IIRC the frame and slide are from the Philippines (Armscorp or better know as rock isle armory), and the barrel is from Tanfoglio. Just be careful the trigger is very light.

Well it's Tanfo, Tisas and other turkshit, or imported thus vastly overpriced US brands like Bul, Staccato, STI, Watchtower, Springfield, Wilson Combat and so on. Around 1k it's either Tanfo or Chiappa, or Turk. Or Taurus now i'v seen some. I mean brand new. I could randomly find a used Bul 1911 for maybe 1500 eurobucks.

Tanfo is good then, mine cost $1100 against the cheapest Springfield 1911 GI for around $1500, I save up the difference I got myself a reloading kit, that and I would rather try my first reloads on a "cheaper" gun.

So, when a Glock (or similar striker-fired handgun) is racked and has one in the chamber, is it possible that there could be a mechanical failure and it would discharge by itself?
>>
>>65346335
You need to pull the trigger so the gun can "cock" the gun itself...NOW...you mentioned Glock and Glock clones...the P320 is not a Glock clone, the striker is already semi-cocked. (at least to my knowledge)
>>
>>65346335
A Glock has 3 safeties, a trigger block, a sear block, and a striker block, so it's very, very safe
Other strikers are usually similar

I've had great experiences with select Turk pistols, I have pic related and a GI 1911 from them, both great shooters. On a friend's advice I swapped the springs with a Wilson combat spring kit for $20 and it made the 1911 a fantastic shooter.

I'll add also I really, really like how the Turks don't put godawful rollmarks all over their pistols.
>>

as long as you have a stock slide, striker, & trigger there really isnt anything that can go make it go off
if you use aftermarket springs, triggers, slides, strikers, etc. then you do run the risk of something potentially failing due to the dimensions being off
it gets worse the more you mod it as well as they are all made within different specs & designed around interacting with OEM parts, not another aftermarket part
fine for a race gun or a range toy but i wouldnt carry a tricked out race gun with one in the chamber

if the pin somehow slipped it would just hit the firing pin block, if you remove the slide it looks like a round piece, which part of the trigger pushes upwards and out of the way of the firing pin when you're actually firing the weapon.

Yes, there are only 2 things that need to happen:
1. the striker must be pulled back and released
2. safety plunger must be pressed into the slide, so that released striker is not blocked
Pulling the trigger does both of those things at once, so that's the easiest way for the gun to go off.

My buddy is 6'3 and about 230lbs, he wants a holster for his g3c so we can run draw drills together but prefers appendix carry. Is the vedder comfort tuck good for appendix carry? I carry 4 oclock strong side so I'm in the dark about appendix holsters.

I know there are better holster options out there, but most brands I knew like Alein gear, ANR, or safariland either didn't offer taurus holsters, didn't ship for months, or cost almost as much as the gun.

No, the high power is the first double stack meaning it holds double the bullets, the 1911 is single stack meaning it has a single row of bullets. The controls of the high power are also very different compared to the controls of the 1911, note the differences here >>65346397 compared to my picture. The trigger of the 1911 pulls straight back in a line, where the high power hinges back, which means most people will be more accurate with the 1911 than the high power.

All of these are gross oversimplification but you're noguns so whatever.

It is not. It is an entirely different gun but uses the same tilting barrel action. Browning died before the gun was finished, I hate with an absolute passion people gassing it up as everything the 1911 should have been when it has a worse trigger, worse service history, and wasn’t more reliable than the 1911. There is a reason it never really caught on.

i need some ideas /k/
i have a nickel plated 92FS extracted on this derya melik i modded to basically be revy's 9mm sword cutlass
the problem is nickel plating makes the part super slick & theres no grip to it, which works out great for the slide, mag release, etc. but shocker, it turns out the part that grabs casings probably shouldn't be super slick because it just slides over the case & fails to extract sometimes
i refuse to use a black 92fs extractor on it because itll kill the aesthetic
i figured running a bunch of steel case through it may just solve the problem by wearing down the extractor and making it rough exactly where it needs to be so it can reliably extract cases but after about ~400 rounds it still looks pristine so i think thats a lost cause
i then hit it with a file & some rough sandpaper on the interior of the extractor so that the visible parts on the outside are still shiny & clean but the actual working part is grittier but that didn't do the trick either and im worried doing that more will fuck with the dimensions by actually removing material and cause other issues
im thinking i have 2 other options, get a black 92FS extractor and then carefully sanding it on the parts that would be visible from the outside so its raw metal & then polishing it so matches better but the actual part that makes contact with the case would still be the OEM, unmodified part
other idea is to get a stronger spring for the extractor so that its less likely to be able to slip the case
honestly dont know what one would be the better path to go down, beretta finishes are actually pretty decent so im worried i'd have to shave off a noticeable amount of material to get the look and that it may cause other reliability issues doing that
>>
>>65346853
Uh why don't you just get a standard extractor and hand polish the parts you would see and leave the part that actually grabs the casing untouched?

Pre interchangeable breechface so I’m stuck with .40

Really .40 was getting popular right as the 2011 released so it makes the most sense as the “next gen 1911” at the time. A higher capacity caliber that has similar lethality as .45 ACP.
>>
>>65344139
Currently rocking OEM Glock shit on a 17. Performance trigger polished with simichrome, and a minus connector is sex. Add a light laser combo and a pressure pad and it makes for a great duty gun. I personally have a 1000 lumen light and laser so that if I end up having to draw, the death grip I’ll have from shitting my pants will translate into shinning a 1000 lumen light and laser combo into the guy’s eyes.

Glock actually makes some great shit. I’m looking forward to purchasing a Gen 6 and getting involved in some shooting competitions. I’m not sure how consistent I am with it, but I was able to fire one round from draw with a level 2 holster in .75 seconds

I’m debating on doing a bulk purchase of Glocks cause I like to collect handguns and fucking with the system from there.

Better shooting, better trigger, American, if you didn’t solve the problem in 7 rounds then 13 isn’t going to save you

You could get a .38 super 1911 at the time as well which was 9 rounds (later 10) which 9 vs 13 isn’t that big of a difference when the .38 Super would be more powerful than 9mm. I’m not sure when it started but American 9mm spec was always weaker than German spec, so 9mm was a considerably weaker cartridge than .45 ACP when they’re both FMJ

with how short-range handgun engagements typically are, would it be viable for a manufacturer to make a budget ammo with the bullet itself being a ball bearing instead of a conical one? like wad-cutters, just spherical.

Because the average high power isn't as reliable as your average 1911 due to design flaws inherit with being a half baked design that switched cooks half way through. Because the cheapest $300 1911 has a better trigger than any high power I've ever tried, and I've tried everything from surplus Belgium highpowers to FEGs to the new SA 35s and FN new-powers (they ALL were jammomatics, pic rel failure to feed). Because a decent high power is twice the price of a decent 1911.

There is a great reason compeition shooters use 1911/2011 designs and nobody is using high powers, but if you like to see someone attempt to use one forgotten weapons has a video of him doing 2 gun with an Egyptian one that can't make it through a single mag without failures.

Not the easiest thing to just plop in a brass casing and have it stay in place. I don't think it would really save any money to be honest either. Obviously not talking about muzzleloading handguns as spherical bullets are great in those.

So I posted a couple weeks back saying I felt like a faggot for not being able to properly manipulate my first handgun.
Part of the reason for that was feeling the slide release was too stiff. Turns out that's kind of a thing with mine since what I bought is a P-10C, so I don't feel so bad now. Apart from that, I've been practicing manips with snap caps and I think there's been some improvement.

Eventually you need to clean it and replace recoil springs but they have flat wire recoil springs that last longer if not indefinitely. Your extractor might lose tension, so you might need to tune it (by bending it, it's a spring).

The original 1911 in 1911 went 6000 rounds without a stoppage.

>"The endurance test was now begun. 6000 rounds were to be fired in a series of 100. Between series , the pistols were allowed to cool for five minutes. The pistols were to be examined, cleaned, and oiled after every 1000 rounds.
>In the 1st thousand rounds, both pistols worked perfectly, without malfunctions. In the 2nd thousand rounds, the Colt functioned perfectly. The Savage had 4 malfunctions. In the 3rd thousand rounds, the Colt functioned perfectly. The Savage suffered a broken bolt stop which was replaced. In the 4th thousand rounds the Colt functioned perfectly. The Savage had 4 malfunctions; the bolt stop and sear were found to be upset from constant pounding, the firing pin spring was found to be shortened. In the 5th thousand rounds the Colt functioned perfectly. The Savage developed a magazine release defect, and dropped its magazine five times; there was further upsetting in the bolt stop and the bolt was found to contain cracks. In the 6th thousand rounds, the Colt functioned perfectly. The Savage had 31malfunctions; a new extractor was required, the breech plug had cracked, and the firing pin had acquired a permanent set., the safety slide broke and the retractor spring had acquired a permanent set. At the end of the firing, a careful examination of the Colt failed to reveal any defective parts.

Anon brought up a good point the other day about the wall you dry fire at likely being closer (and better lit) than typical outdoor or even indoor ranges which has given me the idea to widen the points of reference inside the greater and minor A-zones in hopes of target focus enhancement. I guess there's no harm in saying. Central American monkey, Costa Rica.
After asking around, the only gun store willing to custom import it was asking for over 3k burgers for a (new) regular full size 9mm model in black. The listing they showed me in GB, where they would purchase it to import, was $1.1k. So the full payment would have an additional 200% increase just for the import duties + store profit, give or take.
I've seen people here say a good USP is a fine 800-1000 burger gun, but just try to imagine paying more than even a mint MK23 for a normal ass USP and you can probably get an idea of how outrageous the markup is. Certainly not impossible, don't get me wrong, but restrictively expensive for even wealthy local "big shots" for what would ultimately be a range toy.

So I've always had full size heavy ass pistols/revolvers I didn't wanna carry so I've always carried lcp max's and recently bg 2.0 but recently wanted something in the middle so I went with glock 19 and picked up an AIWB holster (style with 2 single DCC clips spread out on each side.)
I was under the impression that I'd have to make some wardrobe changes to accommodate this (I usually wear a belt but not every day) but I have worn it from 12 - 1 o clock appendix in gym shorts/sweat pants/slacks/w.e other beltless pants and I have absolutely no issue with the gun slipping/flopping around. Like yeah if I'm in gym shorts and am doing a full sprint it's a little goofy but legit I can do a solid jog and its fine. A glock 19 loaded up 15+1 isn't the lightest thing in the world.

What gives? Is everyone just fat with loose fitting shorts/pants so a belt is absolutely necessary? I feel like I'm going crazy because this whole belt required thing seems ubiquitously stated. Am I missing something?

revolvers are honestly the best way to get over recoil anticipation
fire 4 shots and then load 1 round and then spin the cylinder without looking and start shooting
you wont know what round is going to actually fire and you can see yourself flinch
beats dry firing because knowing there is a live round helps, at least it does for me
when im dry firing, theres a part of me that knows it just cant go off and it is isn't like really shooting so im not 100% in the mindset
>>
>>65348131
you can and it isnt going to cause serious damage but it also is pointless & its only risking damage to the revolver
the action of folding it all the way down is what pushes the ejector out and that removes the shells
you just release it and slightly flip it down, it pops the ejector and makes all the shells eject
cimmaron i think makes schofield clones, they are just like $1,500
definitely cool but honestly you can get better revolvers for less & SAA clones go for a 1/3 of the price and SAA clones let you do all the cool cowboy tricks & spins because they are well balanced

like 70% of americans are overweight or obese and another ~5% are underweight
that leaves 25% of people that are considered a healthy weight
you need to factor that in with conversations/articles about holsters & concealment
i dont use a carry belt or anything like that but i have a golfy fabric belt that does not work well for concealed carry, when i try to draw, it just pulls on the belt & it stretches a lot
all my leather belts work just fine though
same issue with sweatpants/shorts for kydex holsters, it just winds up yanking my pants before it even starts to pull the pistol out of the holster
my leather holsters it isnt a problem
i cant see carrying a glock 19 in shorts/sweatpants though, the weight is too much and i dont want my pants to sag, my LCR is light enough it isnt an issue though
i cant run/workout or anything and carry though in shorts, shits flopping around and i cant trust it wont accidental reveal itself, pants me, or worst case scenario fall out of the holster
ive been thinking about getting a belly band holster just for that though

That's cool, hope you had a good experience. Surely you went to the more touristic spots, because downtown San Jose is absolute dogshit and I think most of our own locals can agree.
I'm not even sure myself how people manage to get their hands on more than 2 firearms here since legally an individual is only allowed to register 2 under their name at a time, but I'm sure there's ways around it, specially coming from retired foreigner boomers.
I should mention that getting the more popular stuff isn't really difficult once you get your guvmint requirements to carry sorted out. There's your Glocks, S&Ws, Siggers, some Springfields, a bit of Colts, Caniks, and CZ has been very recently getting more into the market through official distributors. Some gun stores try to pass off Taurus shit as high quality too which I find funny. Beyond that though, the more bougie stuff is custom import only and you gotta pay out the ass as I mentioned. HK, Beretta, FN, any fancy custom competition brands, all of that may as well not exist here. I've seen some Beretta 92 knockoffs on shitty little gun stores but if I had to guess they're even lower tier than Taurus clones.

Funnily enough, I saw a news article recently where some drunk dude opened fire on cops after a traffic stop, and the motherfucker just so happened to be carrying a stainless slide USP Compact. It was right there in the arrest photos, clear as day. Fuck if I know how he came to own that, but considering how non-existent HK is here, it boggles my mind how such a weapon arrived here at all. Fucking jealous of it myself too, though I'd prefer a full size 9mm with the stainless slide.

I have to clean my Tisas every 200-300ish rounds or it gets gritty and stops being reliable. The last time I cleaned my FN 509c I had gone about 8,000 rounds without cleaning and couldn't tell the difference. Disassembly of any modern pistol is usually about 5 seconds, a 1911 is going to take you closer to a minute or two. Sure some people who do it all the time can do it in 20 seconds, but you can strip a glock or smith&wessen or FN or HK or whatever good enough to clean in less time than that your first try. It's not the worst thing in the world but it's not something you can ignore like modern guns

Yes, I absolutely love mine and carry it often. I think I'm only about 2-3k rounds through it though. Some things to note, Smith QC is terrible. It's getting better with the bodyguard 2.0 line but on launch a lot of sights were not properly aligned. My personal BG 2.0 had light strike issues with all ammo, less with S&B and Federal HST but like 3-4 rounds a mag with garbage bin AAC. I sent it back to Smith and they didn't just fix it they also polished the feed ramp, it was all done next day shipping for free.

The gun disappears in the pocket with a QVO holster which has a really cool claw release system that only slows down my draws about .5 seconds compared to traditional carry. Pic rel what it looks like in my scrub pants. Check out this video of the QVO claw release system. Skip to about 12 seconds in to see it in action. https://youtube.com/shorts/Ivnt4BIr_5w?si=PeGjM3lEofx2QalY

At the time I lived in Detroit off Joy rd by the Murder Mac. My work was actually in a pretty safe area but getting to and from was very very sketchy. Took the same turn as a guy 3 times in a row at 2am and he pulled over, let me pass, then followed me home and waited for me to get out with his high beams on. I was happy to have the BG 2.0 in my pocket. Not the only instance I almost needed it either.

I work in CT/X-ray and often get calls from MRI to help them start IVs, so bringing a gun into work is an absolute no go. Luckily in Michigan the parking lot of a hospital is explicitly stated not to be a protected place in their carry laws, so you can just leave it in the car.

If you look at it from the perspective of someone when they first came out, they were at least interesting or perhaps cool to some. But nowadays you are mostly correct. There's no problem with someone new to guns or someone not really into guns to choose a 9mm Glock for carry. It is, however, a clear marker for mental illness if someone has been "into guns" for a long while and still carries a 9mm Glock. See Hop for example.

Unless otherwise stated my targets are 7 yards. Those were all slow fire, gun position corresponds to groups with the echelon being a rental. This was fired at stoddards in Atlanta, they don't allow draws.

The right group was fast fire PDP, left and center echelon with one of them being fast fire as quick as I could get sights on target and the other being slow fire (cant remember which is which but assume smaller group is slow fire). Slow fire with the echelon is faster in my hands than fast fire with the PDP due to the PDP's famous muzzle flip and the echelon having an incredibly short reset trigger and amazingly ergonomic design.

I like the Echelon!

Walther made me pay to ship it back then told me to fuck myself and said it worked fine after holding it for a month or two. I took it back out and had the same problem the first time i shot with that mag.

Meanwhile springfield owners get their feed ramps polished and sometimes even a free mag tossed in if they have a qc issue and send it back. Springfield has qc issues but at least they take care of you

Also range report my STRAYER VOIGT INFINITY worked flawlessly 100 rounds, then started choking up. Maybe I should have lubed it since it was completely dry. New mags would help too.

Despite rattling like a maraca, rattles like my 1918 beat to shit 1911, it seems perfectly accurate. I seem to be bad at zeroing and the POI rises too much at range. Happens with my 9mm too.

Forgot my tool kit so I had to adjust my rear sight with a 1911 magazine feedlip as a flat blade screwdriver.

This thing fucking rocks and is basically the pinnacle of firearms from the 90s so I don’t want to modify it anymore except (new lockback slide stop, single side safety, reactivate grip safety, perhaps a new grip module). I was planning to convert to 9mm and optic cut, I might just have to build a clone of it to do that.

I might have to compete limited USPSA with it.

At least they learned so the safety isn’t MIM. The 10-8 parts on it are great, the extended slide stop, magazine release, and the grips are very grippy.

Mine is pre 1998 because it’s pre interchangeable breechface, so it’s made between 1994 and 1998, I have no idea if it’s a kit build (they sold bare frames for a short while) or a shop build. It might have been in another configuration since the frame is drilled and tapped for a frame mount optic they filled the holes when cerakoting the frame. The slide to frame fit is super loose, but the frame and slide are both serialized 307 so I think this was the gun’s original configuration but whoever owned it before fit the frame to a different slide (hence the frame mount optic holes and the looseness). I’ll have to ask Infinity about the gun but they probably don’t know much. I’ll have to ask the boomers at 1911addicts about it, some mother fuckers have entire collections of infinity’s and posting them in their Lamborghinis and shit

Nighthawk said they could weld on new material and tighten the slide to frame fit for 550.

Most of it is meh, but the CVT is that car is very cool. They deleted all clutches. It cost them, and no one appreciates that they did it, but it's a cool achievement.

Is the difference in accuracy between Glock's standard Gen 1-4 barrels and their Gen 5 "marksman" barrels really enough to consider an upgrade?
>>
>>65344139
i a moving back to the states next month, been gone 2 years. i currently have a glock 19 gen 5 with an x300, and a glock 43x with the mag replacement button, some streamlight i can't remember, and some holosun red dot. is there anything worth buying to replace ir upgrade these. my dad wants to buy the 19, so i could put that into something else.

got it. i will only be back for a year so I was thinking about hyper specializing two guns, either my existing ones or new ones. one gun for concealed carry 80% of the time and the other one for cc in the snow, or oc for hunting, and home defense. I've got no complaints with the glocks, just have been checked out of guns for a while, wasn't sure if there are new optics, lights, or pistols that have upset the balance.

>new optics, lights, or pistols
Yeah optics are getting really really good, it's no longer "buy an rmr", you got good options for all sizes. Basically every new model you can buy now days is worth it even including the new vortex stuff, hell I even hear good things about osight shockingly enough.

Unfortunately lights are still basically solved with "buy a x300 for full size you never want to carry IWB, tlr-1 for full size carry to compact, and tlr-7 for compact to micro compact".

For new pistols the S&W Bodyguard 2.0 is practically space magic. It shoots as good of groups as a glock 19 in most peoples hands but is tiny enough to fit in the pocket, did a write up here about it with some pros and cons >>65349536 it could be a good replacement for the 43x if you want a tiny gun you can pocket carry instead of a small gun you can't really with most outfits.

If you're planning on getting a new full size for HD or whatever else call around different rental ranges and try to find one that has infinite swaps for a flat rate and try the guns you maybe haven't shot before like the Echelon or PDP or HK or whatever else and form your own opinion. Find what you actually love and shoot the best.

Be honest with me, guys.
I’ve got 2 guns that are actually practical for CC. A Taurus 85 (5 shot 38 special) and a S&W 3913. Every other gun I have is basically a full size gun. Of the 2, should I just use the S&W and get a spare mag or cope with the 85?
My 85 looks like pic rel, so it’s pretty aesthetic. But the smith is also aesthetic..

Are you sure you are unable to CC a full size? Other than that just do the 3913.

Learn to disassemble and reassemble without scratching it. Clean it and lube it even though it is new. I like the thin grease type lubes for slide rails. Ammo, mags, shoot it. Learn to clean the barrel properly.

I have a gen 2 Glock 17, but concealing that I wouldn’t say is the most practical. Honestly I’d like to carry it, but I can’t make it make sense.
