>>65348043I got some of these MOLLE gaiters that can work with side plate pouches so you can jury-rig some leg armor. Can also be used for forearm armor - which oddly enough is statistically very useful.Shanghai H Win makes some shitty ass 6x6 and 6x8 unpressed PE IIIA panels on the cheap which apparently work but likely produce excessive BFD. I have two pairs and I can literally press down and separate the layers. C-Grade type schitt.https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256810412203089
Sometimes I think the Chinese are smoking crack.
Side plates. What are your thoughts on them? What do you prefer? Hard plates? Soft armor for better coverage? Nothing? What do you use? I have IIA soft armor in my cummerbund.
>>65348100I prefer level IV side plates. If I'm in a situation where I actually have to put on my plate carrier, then I'm probably in a situation where I don't want to get shot. If you're in a trench, getting hit by drones, then soft armor for shrapnel makes sense. I'm not, so I might as well just have hard plates.
>>65348100I roll 6x8 Hesco 4100s to complement my Protech 2230s in my "shit's going down" getup.Whether they're useful or not depends on where you stand on the coverage----mobility spectrum.>Hard plates? If rifle threats are predominant then this is the only play, but the new lighter flavors of Dragonskin might change that. We could be seeing M80+M855+M193 rated 3psf stuff coming soon.>Soft armor for better coverage?Useless against rifle rounds. If pistol threats / frag are the main play however then VERY useful, see Ukraine for a frag example.>Nothing?Covert getups are usually just front + back.>I have IIA soft armor in my cummerbund.Just IIA? Little light chief. NIJ doesn't even have that rating anymore. HG1 is equal to II.
>>65348108I meant IIIA but typod
>>65348114Ah, that's all well and good then. 9x19 50gr Liberty Civil hasn't gotten too common... yet.
Alright, time for real poorfag hours. Here's the link to those $30 Protech X-CAL LPs if anyone wants them. These are specialty low-vis SRTs that weigh entirely too much for what they do (over 6lb with soft), cannot be dropped, run as high as 70mm BFD versus 7.62x51mm M80 even with stout soft armor, and require very specific soft armor panels to fully meet spec.https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1189527918Bro in the link has over two hundred of the things, making this an interesting absolute final ditch option for armor. Do NOT run them standalone. They aren't tested to stop shit without specific soft armor.Botach also still has 38 Ceradyne BA3A IIIA helmets for sale, $75 a pop.https://surplus.botach.com/3m-ceradyne-ba3a-ballistic-helmet-pasgt-cut-nij-level-iiia-police-trade
>>65348029And an LED lamp.>>65348038Stipulated. >>65348043MC Black yoga pant (or Capris) in bound....>>65348064Dirty Girl gaiters also recommended.
>>65348073Smoking crack. Like a fox!
>>65348073That's actually a smart design, though. If you're in a gunfight, you're most likely to be hit in your forearms. If you're in a knife-fight, bracers are pretty much the most useful piece of armor you can wear. The Chinese are being smart and practical. It's companies like Highcooom who just release basic bitch soft armor.
>>65348876The price is pretty jacked for Chinese soft. Back during the tariff scare it was $400.Otherwise yeah it's a pretty solid design. Jinwudun has cheaper forearm armor but coverage is worse.
>>65348876>actually a smart designThe default defensive reaction in instinctively a blocking move. Hand and forearm pen would be common. Lvl 4 bracers and bucklers make sense. Your plates are just wearable shields.
>>65348029This and a set of LTCs, so tuff>>65348100Think ive been shot in the belt line and delt more than the sideplates. But hard sideplates worth it ezpz.
>>65349365Patiently still waiting on the GEN-6 TSAs to fall off a truck.
>>65349361The problem with that is weight. You can get creative with MSAPs and kinda get there, but that's only 5.5x6 and not solid coverage like Mr. Powerhands in >>65348073. If polycrystalline diamond ever goes mainstream then yeah we'll be seeing this stuff stop M993 and weigh like three pounds.
Alright guys give it to me straight, what are my options for a PCU level 5 soft shell that isn’t getting raped for 400 dollars on eBay? I’m trying to look like this but the actual soft shell it was based on, not the weird fleece thing they used I game

Breaking news, everyone's favorite drop shipper John Sun got arrested. He assaulted his parents with a pepper ball grenade and crashed his Porsche.
>>65350030First Spear wind cheater
>>65350604Aw shit you're right. From "Factoria looks like shit" on facebook, who really seems to have the details on this guy.>Early this morning Yushi Sun, aka John Sun, decided to threaten suicide by knife while with his parents. He then threw a pepper ball grenade in the house and fled in his Porche Cayenne. >He fled on i90 and refused to stop for officers. >After a standoff at SE 27th and 110th he was taken into custody and is currently booked into Score jail for DV Assault 4 and Obstruction.>They had to call aid for his father due to breathing issues from the grenade. One of Highcom's finest armor dealers, everyone... what the fuck.
Damn, and the initial news break about the rape case was already two months ago.
>>65350664>>65350691This guy sounds like a Looney Tunes character. Throwing grenades at everybody, getting into slapstick accidents, and going "wah wah I'm going to kill myself!" WTF is going on? Is Apex gonna stay in business with this guy behind bars? How hard are the Hesco guys partying right now?
>>65350664Tried posting a few hours ago but the jannies keep blocking my carrier's IP range so I had to wait till I got home.
>>65350862When I emailed Apex last to ask about some special order LTCs, I talked with John directly so I don't know if his staff already walked out on him.Allegedly, per that same guy on FB, he lost 150lb on ozempic or something and that might be causing some kind of mental snap.Unless it turns out the ex is full of shit and this guy on FB is blowing smoke, Apex is probably cooked.>How hard are the Hesco guys partying right now?Midwest is gonna be so turnt they'll forget to ship plates for another six months!
I swear the entire body armor industry is a clown show.
Yeah I'm not buying those LTC 28791s from this guy. Bro had to get bailed out by his parents for $1,000 (is he dead fucking broke?) after the pepper ball incident. How do you run a supposedly popular armor company and not have a grand liquid? No wonder he took months to ship basic plates. Robbing peter to pay paul. Then he had more cops waiting for him at his house and he's booked on MORE charges in King County, felony assault this time! No bail!
Looking into accessory armor. I have >plate carrier with plates>helmet>dick flapThoughts on these two?https://surplus.botach.com/protech-tactical-300-series-bicep-protector-set-of-2-police-trade/https://surplus.botach.com/protech-armored-products-model-702m-multi-hit-ballistic-face-shield-police-trade/
>>65348043Camo JNCO
>>65350966I like your armorus maximus style. Let's see...>Model 702M IIIA visorThis is not IIIA. It's strictly 9x19mm 124gr at 1,200ft/s per Safariland themselves. I strongly recommend the 702MT they're also selling which is IIIA plus 7.62x25 Tok steel jacket. 0.4lb heavier and less than fifty bucks more.https://surplus.botach.com/protech-702mt-ballistic-face-shield-nij-level-iiia-multi-hit-tokarev-police-trade/>bicepsThese are fine assuming you're getting the pouches for them as well. They're easy to source off fleabay.>helmetCan I interest you in getting a steel helmet like the Warmag NP550? Vastly lower BFD than aramid or PE, which is consistent with your visor desire. It's 3/4" or so BFD versus 12 gauge 3" slugs and also meets or exceeds the visor's ability against 7.62x25 threats. Would be kinda silly to have a visor which no sells IIIA+ threats but a weaker helmet. You're already running heavy with that visor. 4lb helmet + 2.9lb visor puts you at 7lb or so which is shit but doable. Russians doing counterterrorist urban work in the 00s had helmets good for 7.62x54R LPS that were 10-12lb.>dick flap>not a Jinwudun IIIA skirtgrim. Femorals are pretty bad to get shot in.>plate carrier with platesThis setup already sounds heavy and bulky, and these additions will only make it heavier. These plates better be pretty stout.
>>65348043>What leg wear do you use with the cloak?I was thinking some IIIA ballistic assless chaps from IAC rated for a pipe bomb or multi-hit versus hand grenades.https://www.internationalarmor.com/ballistic-chaps/level-iiia-ballistic-chaps
>>65351007>Warmag NP550This? https://www.ebay.com/itm/156051890607I was actually considering getting a second helmet as a loaner (on top of my old PC that I upgraded from).>Jinwudun IIIA skirtInterested but it's down the road on my buy list.>These plates better be pretty stout.I got /gq/'s recommended 2230s.
>>65351059>Warmag NP550Yeah that's the ticket. Buy from Warmag directly (no affiliation) because there's a dollar discount $120 version floating around which probably doesn't work. Fair warning, all their shit is chinesium and their plates are typical C-grade cheat ringed to hell tile arrays. 5lb 2oz for a 10x12 SiC Level IV? Complete bullshit, that ring must be huge. If their chinesium is too big of a red flag, you'd have to look at Adept's steel or titanium helmets (Adept is also Chinesium suspect) which are much weaker than the 702MT visor, rifle rated PE helmets from a variety of manufacturers, or almost unobtanium titanium / polytanium (PE-Ti) from European mfgs like Mehler or Ulbrichts. Also a typical aramid or PE IIIA helmet will lose to a cheap crossbow from Cabela's. Adept has well proven this.>I was actually considering getting a second helmet as a loanerI will admit metallic helmets don't go bad unless they rust. Botach also has $75 BA3As from Ceradyne. They're IIIA but aramid.>IIIA skirt$298 as of right now. I have one, it's kewl but I'm planning on reworking it to have a cheap ICW RF1 PE plate on each side, which will get me to full femoral M193 + 7.62x39 MSC / 7.62x51 M80. That comes out to 8.8lb on top of the skirt.>I got /gq/'s recommended 2230s.Excellent. Those are solid unless you run into real hard tungsten shit, which they explicitly aren't rated for but that 3,510ft/s+ M2AP v0 should give them a major edge. Only way to go north of those are Protech 2240s, Gilliam 8002s, Adept Colossi, or the EDUN IV+++ 12.7x108mm B-32 API rated fat fuckers on Taobao.
>>65351059And yeah, that's Warmag's official ebay so that's solid.
>>65350030Its not a mismodelled soft shell. The weird fleece was a real thing, shagmaster or something like that.
>>65351103>shagmaster
>>65351119groovy, like a hot babe and a flashbang grenade
>>65351059Also, one last thing, metallic helmets do tend to have funny measurements because they're thinner than aramid or PE, I'd double check dimensions on the 702MT clamp.I might actually go in on this combo myself so if you wait I'll beta test.
>>65350625If only they still sold it, looks p good but the helikon trooper mk2 is more available>>65351103Checked their site, they don’t seem to sell it but they sell this ranger one in grey that looks pretty damn close, but is like 275. I always thought the TF141 jackets were based on PCU jackets due to that being the tacticool SF stuff at the time, it’s cool that there’s an actual fleece it’s based on

>>65351978I think I'm gonna make a move on one. My only beef is the mags are $100 a pop and proprietary, so if they discontinue the gun it's 3D print or bust. Also five rounds a mag is ass but people are working on 3D printed extensions.

>old businessFrom a rec in an old /pfg/ from an autistici, but completely sincere anon stating pic rel is his goat ramen. I soft v alidated his assertion by seeking and carting his noodles. I followed through (albeit monthes later) and took them out of my "save for later" list and rcvd shipment last week. I hard validate him by saying these really are goat ramen! Bi-flavor dry season mix, tri-flavor wet season mix, I just threw everyone in the pool. I will further experiment omitting flavor pack combos for different profiles, but I support his rec and suggest you get a case for your pantry. Mmm, flavor! Old ramens are right out from now on, these will be better at home and on the trail. Boil up quickly.
Is it generally legal to buy kevlar vests from European stores as an American ?
>>65352618Would depend on if it falls under ITAR or whatever Europe's equivalent is. Probably best to email the outfit and ask if they will ship body armor to a US address. I don't think there are any federal laws that would prevent you from importing on our end. State and locality laws are on you to research, because there are a bunch of retarded jurisdictions out there. I am genuinely curious what you're looking at that would be worth importing as opposed to finding a domestic source.
>>65352618ITAR and EAR are only for exporting armor from US to overseas. If the appropriate Euro paperwork is filled out then export from wherever to US is no problem.>>65352647I second your question as to why he'd need to import.

>>65354953>4s17goddamn not even 4S17M with the multi curve? Eh, not as bad as 4SAS4 or 4SAS7.Hate to shittalk the 4SAS7 since it was THE budget Level IV pick from 2009 to about 2016, but no drop pro + dated 0101.04 construction is a meh recipe combined with Highcum's current problems. What’s a good chonky comfortable plate carrier? I understand the appeal of like lower vis ones or shit like the JPC, but what if I don’t care about size, bulk or visibility and just want it comfortable enough to run around and be in it all day? The tacticooler, the better

New RMA drop.
>>65357089The plan was to add drop foam eventually to the 1165, so this isn't surprising. Website hasn't been updated. I expect the "plan" is to memoryhole the drop pro issue.Bro needs to actually measure the plates. You don't get to 5.3lb with a drop foamed Alumina-PE plate unless the 9.5x11.5 is REALLY nominal. If "corrected" to 10x12 you get 5.8lb, which is impossible given Gilliam arrives at 6.4lb using the same materials. Cut bottom corners do not result in a 0.6lb difference.
>>65357183It's amazing, and I mean really literally amazing, that RMA just can't be honest. They ALWAYS have to lie about specs. Thickness, weight, drop pro, size, and is there anything else? The 5.2 pound plate is going to be 9x11" or smaller, and this is after they were making fun of other companies for doing that. Even that Redditor got a plate +20% thicker than the listing. >>65357672That redditor also thinks he got a hell of a deal and doesn't realize he got played, and the people there just won't tell him the truth. Kinda sad actually, since I know they know RMA badly undersizes their plates, but the armor autist there is personal friends with John Sun so he won't call them out because Highcum does the same damn thing. IYKYK.There is functionally no difference between undersized plates and cheat ringed plates. You are down coverage all the same.>They ALWAYS have to lie about specs. They got bills to pay! The Shooter cut that you have is listed at 5.3lbsDrop protection usually adds 0.1-0.2lb, so this is the REAL reason why the plates are smaller, I suppose.>We do have plans to certify the 1155 Gen2 first and then the 1165 Gen2 later. Just for an inside view the NIJ has really upped their requirements for the .07 compared to the .06. Every single material used in the plate (including threat for sewing covers) has to have a tech sheet and even Safety Data Sheet uploaded with it. I personally feel after we gave them pushback on the supposed 1155 FIT failure a few years ago, they really ramped up the .07 standard including over half a dozen ASTMs, which wasn't part of the .06 standard.RMA continues to claim victim status. "The NIJ is making it too hard guys, with half a dozen ASTMs, after our plate failed but didn't really fail.""Please ignore that the Hesco 4403 which literally fails against M2AP 30ft/s over spec was 0101.07 certified DAY ONE as the RF3-400!"The bullshitting levels are off the charts.
And more from RMA:>Ballistically, they hold up well as we've done more testing than I can count. The 1155 Gen2 are just waiting for some tech specs from suppliers and a few drawings for different sizes then we will be applying for a test ID.The big question - what happened to 1165s without the drop foam when dropped per NIJ 0101.07? They wouldn't let Buffman answer that one.Not liking that a lot of people have no-drop 1165s because RMA is doing the Gilliam style of consumer beta testing armor.>The 1165 will be later, and we MIGHT change the foam that will better handle the heat chamber. The foam right now is good but it's heat tolerance is right on the line with what NIJ tests at per ASTM E3075M-28. We may change just the foam to a more heat tolerable foam when we go to certify this. It really shouldn't change anything weight or thickness wise.Again, Hesco's 4403 which is damn underbuilt, and only passes requirements by a hair, was ready to go day one for 0101.07. This just makes RMA look incompetent.

PE and hybrid panels are less velocity sensitive as a guideline but not an absolute rule.>Does any 9mm hyper meme ammo actually penetrate IIIA armor?Depends on panel quality and construction. Good PE panels will stop most but not all of them. Omniprotex's Ultra HG2+ for example. >>65362447On that note, if you completely dgaf about thickness/weight, could you daisy-chain stack substandard armor to achieve something equivalent to modern IV? I got a bunch of "collectibles" for cheap like AR500 IIIA steels, Italian PE III pasta plates, hard foam from the dollar store for ghetto trauma pads, and so forth. If I fully Michelin Man out with duct tape and dreams, could I get a 2" pseudo-IV plate that still gets non-cave-in-your-chest BFD?
>>65363053>On that note, if you completely dgaf about thickness/weight, could you daisy-chain stack substandard armor to achieve something equivalent to modern IV?Of course. As a baseline, a "Level IV" - in quotes because they're always a little sketchy with the exact velocity - steel plate is 1/2" and 12lb uncoated. With a proper spall coat, it's 14lb for a 10x12. Your daisy-chain concept has to match or exceed that "layup" in order to work.>I got a bunch of "collectibles" for cheap like AR500 IIIA steels, Italian PE III pasta plates, hard foam from the dollar store for ghetto trauma pads, and so forthIf it's AR500-brand AR500 then things are a little hinky because they had problems with reliable hardening for a while back when that IIIA plate was around. This is rough and would require testing, but if you stack the IIIA steel plates three times you're about comparable to the IV steel plate in pic related on areal density, given that the IIIA plates are individually spall coated and therefore not as efficient as a singular unit. Then use a PE III pasta plate as a backer since it'll be useless against M2AP if it goes first since that's a bigass steel penetrator and those plates lose to 7.62x39 MSC.>If I fully Michelin Man out with duct tape and dreams, could I get a 2" pseudo-IV plate that still gets non-cave-in-your-chest BFD?3x IIIA AR500 steel plates backed by a pasta III PE will maybe do it, weight is probably 18lb a side which is god awful and I don't know why you would do that. Why don't you just hit up some of the plates in >>65362951? Those IC34s are honestly tempting if you can source decent IIIA soft on the cheap.
>>65363077Nah I only got two of those IIIAs as workout weights. I was just wondering if I got pinned down in my garage (where my collectible "don't trust this against modern threats" shit is stored) could I still duct tape something together that would hold off the worst so I could get into the house where my good shit is? That's all.
If I have zero gear but a pvs 14 and a SHTF ar15 in 5.56 what should I budget for gear? I ideally want level 4 ceramic plates, a way to carry a camel back and a 3 day backpack. I have no preference for gear or aesthetics. I live in a subruban area near a major metro so my most likely threats would be dracos, 9mms, and 7in ar15s. I do have a ballistic face shield I bought for GIGN larping as well. These threads move so fast that the last info I learned in like 2023 is probably outdated by now. Thanks anons for your time reading this :)
Was browsing old armor discussions and came across a dude flexing some nice shit. From right to left:1. LTC 28595, size small. Rated for 1x 7.62x54R B-32 API or 2x 7.62x39mm BZ API standalone. Size medium swimmer is 4.75lb. GEN-V USSOCOM TSA Swimmer plate. Replaced by the LTC 28570 (which is about 8% lighter) in 2020.2. Blackbeard RF2+ plate. 4.8lb, same rating as the LTC 28595. Allegedly was OEM'd by Point Blank as a failed entry for the GEN-5B contract to replace the 28595 but wasn't able to beat the 28570 / VelSys TSA (was too heavy). People say this is a BZ API plate but it held up against rounds like 7.62x51mm M14A1 in Buff's testing which folded the 28595.3. Ceradyne 96034, best picture of one I've ever seen. Stupidly rare CAG-issued plate, less than 150 were ever made back around 2009. C Squadron was, allegedly, the first to get them in Mali, 2009. Adjusted for inflation, $5,000 a set - which matches other ultra high end Ceradynes like the 4lb quasi-IV SAEC. Standalone (supposedly) single hit M993 or 7.62x51mm Swiss P AP protection at 5.35lb size medium. If so, basically the best plate of all time.
>>65363084>Nah I only got two of those IIIAs as workout weights.Alright, yikes, you've got something equivalent to AR500's old III+ A2 plate then... maybe on a good day.>I was just wondering if I got pinned down in my garage (where my collectible "don't trust this against modern threats" shit is stored) could I still duct tape something together that would hold off the worst so I could get into the house where my good shit is? How about SRTs like Hesco T212s? About $400 a pair and pretty damn thin so they're easier to conceal than 4403s or other entry-level IVs.
>>65363118Meh, I've got several Italian PE IIIs scattered around my place in fairly good condition and in all honestly don't think I'll face any M855 or other steel-core ammo out here. I'll probably just throw the ones in the garage in a cheapo spare carrier if things go south. I was just curious if stacking some of those IIIAs on top would be a good idea.
>>65363118I feel like armor should be "better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it" right? Or am I wrong in this thinking? I was thinking about setting roughly 1500 aside total but I am unsure if that would be good
>>65363130>Meh, I've got several Italian PE IIIs scattered around my place in fairly good condition and in all honestly don't think I'll face any M855 or other steel-core ammo out hereYou sure? M855 is 41 cents per round free shipping per ammoseek right now and they'll fold your Italian PEs even at reduced velocity, given that they aren't even good for 7.62x39 MSC.>I was just curious if stacking some of those IIIAs on top would be a good idea.Against M855, a very good idea! You're basically creating an ersatz version of the AMI TAC3S or Buffalo Armory Gamechanger plates by doing this. Steel strike face compromises M855's penetrator, PE catches the fragments.Steel-faced PE plates have a very good, but antiquated reputation - so the concept is at least sound.
>>65363134>I feel like armor should be "better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it" right? That's the idea. It is statistically very unlikely that you'll ever need your armor. Safariland is one of the largest LE armor manufacturers in the United States, and across several decades, has only recorded 2,279 saves as of today. I can name three civilian saves from RMA's armor off the top of my head. Three, and that's one of the most popular civilian armor manufacturers - unfortunately.1. Buffalo shooting. Big lawsuit about that.2. Guy got shot by a tweaker with a .38 hiding in his barn, first gen RMA 1155 no-sold the .38 and RMA sent him a replacement.3. Some house break in at some point. Same deal, crackhead tried to pop a Level IV ceramic with a handgun. Doesn't work.Interestingly, all three of the above are RMA's ceramic plates (1093 III+ in the first example, 1155s in the last two) up against handguns. Goes to show IV is probably overkilling it in CONUS for most purposes.>I was thinking about setting roughly 1500 aside total but I am unsure if that would be good$1,500 is an excellent budget for everything altogether. Throw $700 of that into the pot for plates and you've got a pair of 6lb Militech RF3 Black Labels, then you can add sides if you want.
>>65363137Ok, sounds like a good idea. If SHTF and I'm caught in the garage when it does, IIIAs go in the carrier with III PEs behind them, one each per facing, that'll at least give me single-hit M855 protection, turn it into a shitty overweight semi III+/RF2. I've got a shitty oversize $10 carrier that'll hold that kinda rig lying around.
>>65363155Yeah I am most likely expecting a break in as the most likely threat. Then a SHTF riot/looting scenario where they get to my house. Firearm wise I think I am covered in that aspect well. But I know next to nothing about armor or gear, I am on the collecting side of stuff mostly. Is there a good guide for finding carriers and whatnot? Or is it kinda a ford vs chevy style argument where it gets to personal preference.. I am also open to building my kit for a mp5 since I have a mp5sd that I would trust my life to.
>>65363156Good stuff. If you ever feel the need to get a proper set of "beater" plates where you don't give a shit at all about dropping, mishandling, heat degradation, or the adhesive delaminating the backer & strike face or whatever, maybe look into Caliber's AV2 steel plates. $400/set, 7.2lb a piece for a 10x12, full NIJ RF2 plus limited 5.56 M855A1 / 7.62x54R LPS protection. Per Buff's testing loses to M855A1 at 3,170 but holds around 3,000 and gets sketchy with M193 around 3,375. Will probably age poorly against NAS3 shit. Can be punched by M80 going 200ft/s over NIJ spec, so a .300 Winmag could probably kill it fine but that's not in your threat profile. If bro is bringing a .300 winchad down on your ass he's probably packing reloaded M2AP, in which case GG unless you're rolling Protech 2230s or another veritable "IV+" kinda plate.Obviously a Level IV plate like the Gilliam 1635 is considerably lighter than this but it's down big time on multi-hit and can be compromised by repeated bad handling. Also the jury is still out on how well many cheapo plates' adhesives hold up over time. If the backer and strike face delaminate, like what happened with the TAP Gammas way back in the day, then the ceramic plate is toast. Steel plates don't delaminate. They don't go bad if stored in a car trunk in the heat. They don't risk failing if you drop them more than twice from four feet onto concrete with a 10lb weight on the back. I don't like them but the durability advantage is absolute. Spall is a huge issue but an appropriate coating can resolve that.
>>65363186Good. The AR500 IIIAs I have are the build-up coated ones, with the extra thick spall coating. Would be a tight fit on top of the pasta IIIs except my shitty Chinesium $10 carrier is built for 11x14" with all the extra fabric that provides.
>>65363182>Yeah I am most likely expecting a break in as the most likely threat.Maybe look into hardening your house? It is comically easy for dudes to break into modern houses and if they rush your bedroom you might not have time to don a PC if you're woken up dead at the witching hour.Ballistic shields are an entertaining option since they're grab and go. Botach has em cheap and new (Chinese) ones can be purchased affordably from TacScorp or Jinwudun.>Then a SHTF riot/looting scenario where they get to my house. They might be better equipped at that point and the "hood mix" of M855-loaded ARPs, 7.62x39 Dracos, and AR12s loaded with whatever was cheapest at Walmart that week will be present. Shotguns are annoying armor-wise because slugs produce excessive BFD versus soft armor and shot can "get around" plates simply by virtue of spread at distances of several dozen yards. AR12s can deal a lot of lead especially since they have 20-30 round drums on tap. Are they reliable? Fuck no ghostrider but they do have them. A solid case for soft and hard armor combined.>Is there a good guide for finding carriers and whatnot? There's guides in the emporium and reserve in >>65348053. >>65363191I will give Tasmanian Tiger credit on my end, I can fit Armor Express IIIA plate backers behind 1.2" thick Protech 2230 IV+ plates on both sides. This is completely unnecessary since the plates are standalone and rated for M2AP at over 3,510ft/s (600ft/s OVER Level IV spec) but with CAPs it's the working man's contingency option for damn near comprehensive CONUS protection. Plates were under $350, soft armor backers under $80, CAPs like thirty bucks on Aliexpress at the time.In turn that means I could very likely run a pair of those $1k/set EDUN IV+++ .50 cal API plates if I really wanted, since those are 1.44" thick, but those are untested. He's gotten tagged interestingly right where the bottom 1" cheat ring would be on RMA 1189s or 1199s. Rare for shots to actually hit the crown (dead center of the plate, where it's technically weakest if strike face is edge-to-edge) since your arms are in the way, I suppose, unless you're being shot in the back. Buffman's testing conclusively shows that many IVs, like the Hesco 4403 and Hesco 4800, lose to M2AP just 30-50ft/s over NIJ requirement - 2,910ft/s. This can be reached with handloaded .308 or .30-06. With a .300 winmag M2AP can be handloaded to 3,300. My plates are good for at least 3,510, so .300Wby or RUM reloads I'm still probably fine unless hybrid case shit hits the magnum cartridges. The 2230 is really a phenomenal surp plate even though 7.5lb / 1.2" is a bit shit.As for Hawaii (and every other state), DocGKR, an old school SME, had a rule of thumb that if you're near a military base you need M855A1 + M80A1 protection simply because shit falls off the truck. In time this will be M855A1+ and 6.8 M1186. M1186 doesn't pop IVs out of an M7 but out of a much longer barrel, and/or with some design improvements, it could be risky. I'm covered there with the 2230s. Dudes with 4403s are not.

Same discord John Sun hung out in and sold people a bunch of plates too. I think John (Apex) sold him a pair of L210s or something before RMA sold him the 1093s, but that might have been Kota, Midwest, or Sabre, not positive. You know, that discord was kinda a shitshow honestly. Dunno wtf they were thinking making it public to everybody and not screening people. Whatever, that's spilt milk.He also hung around /gq/ at the time and I think asked A2 some questions about barrel length and terminal ballistics. Lol, RMA has a $100 off sale on the "we the people" cover 1165s. $400/set.I think they're trying to liquidate do-not-drop version inventory.https://rmadefense.com/store/body-armor/level-iv-body-armor/lightweight-level-4-plates-model-1165/?For reasons already stated in this thread, this is a model to be avoided. As a 9.5x11.5 nominal (smaller actual) with bottom corners cut, It's undersized to the point you'd really have to compare it against SAPI Small plates from other guys. The total lack of drop protection means you're probably boned if you ever have to dive on them, or drop them by accident onto concrete.
Gilliam now has an AI chatbot named Striker. I tried to ask it a basic question and it died.Wilson maybe get it off a crusty Windows Vista laptop in your garage man
>>65363186>DelamDoes this make the plate completely unusable? Would putting an extra 3a backer behind a delaminated plate work?
>>65364247>Does this make the plate completely unusable? It means the backer and strike face are no longer attached properly with each other and/or a crack arresting layer in the middle, which means the plate is now way less efficient and will NOT meet requirements. However, it doesn't make the plate completely unusable. The individual components are still physically there. The strike face will still break the penetrator, the backer should in theory at least catch fragments. BFD however will suck and neither component will be as efficient. Also the crack arrestor can't crack arrest the strike face if it isn't attached, so the plate now has heavily reduced multi-hit. In theory, one can disassemble the plate and re-adhere the components to get at least most of the performance back, but this is completely untested and professional end-users who get delam'd plates discard and replace ASAP, as SOCOM did with the Ceradyne 92547 and 96448s.If you can make plates in a garage, and guys like Gilliam do, then you can remanufacture plates in a garage at least in principle.>Would putting an extra 3a backer behind a delaminated plate work?Depends entirely on plate construction, given threat, and which layers delaminated. If it's a TAP Gamma and you need it to meet requirements against 7.62x54R LPS or the full 6x 7.62x51 M80, probably not, no.Always err on the side of caution with plates.
>>65364264Does the tap test to check for delamination, work on plates other than ESAPIs?IIRC, ESAPIs have a crack arrester, so you can check for delam just from the sound. But what about plates without crack arresters?
>>65364272>Does the tap test to check for delamination, work on plates other than ESAPIs?Not necessarily. My Protech 2230s for example don't work with the tap test because the front is drop foamed and the rear has a substantial "UNEQUAL" trauma pad.The test held more weight back in 0101.04 back when plates were just strike face + crack arrestor + backer (unless they were strict single strike IVs, then just strike face + backer). The only way to truly guarantee condition is radiology. The US Military has machines for rapidly imaging plates.>IIRC, ESAPIs have a crack arresterYep, as do many other plates. It's metallic for most ESAPIs. Aluminum is common. Other models, SOF ESAPIs included, use steel. Guys like Gilliam use a carbon fiber crack arrestor ahead of the strike face, Hyperion uses titanium, other guys use aramid compound, etc. Whether the tap test works with all of those is TBD. Answer is probably not.>But what about plates without crack arresters?jury is out chief.
Is krydex a chinkshit brand or a chinkgem brand? Just need to buy some pouches, don't feel like dropping enough money to buy another plate carrier on brand-name ones
>>65364502Chinkgem fo sho
>>65364502Mixed, mostly chinkshit in my experience. the pouches that are basically just a bag with a zipper should be okay, short of the zipper potentially not holding up well to dirt or being yanked hard. Their mag pouches have been absolutely trash for me however.

>>65365033Can't rule out comingling. Amazon takes all the stuff matching one item from various suppliers and puts it into a giant pot.If Krydex's actual factory is producing decent stuff and there's a bunch of fuckbois in Sham Shui Po making inferior copies, they all go into the same pot.
>>65365046That's not surprising. Warrior Poet Society and other asshats probably realized they were holding the bag on shit armor and offloaded at cost to some random dudes.Shotstop "made" enough plates that they will continue to be second hand available probably into the 2030s. At that point cheapo adhesive will be totally failed and they'll delam on top of their other issues.Armor generally doesn't "go bad" if stored properly and treated well, but warranties exist for a reason. >>65367685Not really. The way you match soft armor is by comparing v50s and BFD numbers. If Safariland required panel X had a v50 against .357 SIG of Y and a BFD number of 37mm against .44 mag, and you have Panel Z which beats both numbers then you can use Z in place of X.This is why I like those Omniprotex panels a lot as an overkill option. Super protective but BFD is okay-ish.

M855, 7.62x39 MSC, and M193 only.>Also, ancient copsurp 0101.04 plates with no way to know if they were ever dropped, unless you have an industrial X-ray machine.Buff did the usual drop test and came up with the results he did. Yeah, they suck but they technically outperformed rating. Safariland advertised them as single strike for all threats. One M80, one M193, or one M855, or one 7.62x54R LPS or BZ API but you need to be damn sure your soft armor is SOLID for those last two. These are not 0101.04 plates. They are SRTs and are held to no NIJ standard. If they were 0101.04 they'd be good for six 7.62x51 M80 spaced minimum 51mm apart. These are good for one before performance rapidly drops, which is what happened because shots 2-3 of M80 were 70mm BFD.
Here's a good example of an 0101.04 plate, the LTC 26310. Competes with the Hesco 4800, which is 0101.06.https://www.armorliteusa.com/products/body-armor-lightweight-sapi-plates-level-iv-26310They are the same weight at 5.1lb SAPI M. They both use a boron carbide strike face with a high end UHMWPE backer. The difference is that the LTC 26310 is only 0.8" thick versus the 4800's 1.04", because the 26310 is not required to pass a drop test and therefore cuts out the drop protection component of the plate. The 26310 only has to stop one M2AP at up to 2,880ft/s in factory fresh condition. The 4800 is frankly superior, as it stops M2AP at 2,910ft/s after getting dropped twice onto concrete from four feet with a 10lb weight on the back. The 4800's version of Honeywell Spectra PE is a little better than the Dyneema-brand PE the 26310 uses.

Do they plan on disclosing that the plate has less actual coverage than a 6x6" side plate? Why not just wear a 6x6" side plate on a necklace?
>>65368362More than just cheat rings amigo. It uses four tricks in order to get to that weight.1. Bottom corners are aggressively cut for the "assault" cut. Wouldn't want to take that on an assault. You want oversized plates for that. Call that the scout cut.2. Nominal sizing. They say sizes are nominal and they'd need to be to get to those weights. The 10x12 ain't 10x12 and the 8x10 ain't 8x10. Clue is they say nominal outright.3. Cheat rings! Probably why the SAPI is lighter than the assault cut for this one.4. No drop pro! How the fuck else are they getting a Level III "SRT" (that's the clue) to 0.5" thick with ceramic and PE construction! >Do they plan on disclosing that the plate has less actual coverage than a 6x6" side plate? Why not just wear a 6x6" side plate on a necklace?Nope. Reminds me of the Israeli plates with 3" rings so the 10x12" only covers 4x6", probably because they know anything they sell to civs in Israel will probably be diverted to Hamas or whoever so they need to be easy to kill.Invictus Templar and Mitchell & Son are both front companies set up by Tactical Scorpion. They sell exactly the same shit under different labels. Everything.

>>65369067>Interesting. So the supposed Level III rating on the fuddbroker page is incorrect? Then again, fuddbroker.Yep. This is actually pretty common with people unfamiliar with armor trying to describe SRTs. If you don't know what Level III is, you don't know what Level III isn't.Little known fact, in 0101.03 and earlier iterations of NIJ, you could certify an SRT as NIJ "Special Type" or NIJ S - basically it would be your choice of ammo, with the rest of the standard intact, and NIJ would just take your word for it. Obviously ripe for abuse so it got canned.>EDUN is supposed to be diverted PLA stock, right? However they have that massive GA-8 plate which stops 12.7x108. It's 8.8lb, lol, that's not that bad. The AT Armor FFS4 budget Level IV people raved about years ago was 9.5lb SAPI M, so 9.2lb 10x12. Level IV steel plates are 14lb coated.Does the PLA even issue stupid thick assault plates like that, or is it some sort of repurposed NERA brick from an armored vehicle project? It's most likely an aircrew plate, like a modernized SARVIP, or the rumored Mehler Vario / Tencate PM-13 / PM-14 plates. The plate is otherwise like a discount lighter version of an Adept Colossus Heavy (8.8 / 1.44" vs 9.25 / 1.488") and COULD be pressed into countering emerging AP like .338 Lapua M1154 or .338 Norma M1163 since the strike face is super beefy, but that's not standard issue for shit and the new APs USSOCOM is now running like .338NM XM1224 can probably punch it, since that one equals .50 BMG steel core APs in the anti-materiel role and 12.7x108 B-32 API is inferior to rounds like .50 M2AP.Food for thought, if China gets to use Adept's upcoming B4C-Al/AlN non-amorphizing boron carbide then the weight of this plate will drop into the 7.5-7.8lb range, which is directly comparable to REV. A XSAPI from 2007 with soft armor.

Since this GA-8 NIJ-IV+++ is a monolithic, it would make sense if it were a commercial model reusing a strike face from a military counterpart. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense for them to make a strike face that substantial.>>65369432Talk about cutting Botach out of the equation. That looks good but is the price really $363.67? That is... cheap and gives me some pause.>>65369513I've heard the same but Botach's Battle Steel plates are generally very meh Longfri models and they don't line up with Chinese requirements or standards. If you stick hits close together, however, then the plate probably won't hold and Safariland's language covers their ass.>but why! It's a budget Aluminum Oxide SRT with IIRC a fiberglass backer. >>65371128one time was a flea market, near fort drum 10-15 years ago. the other I was ball parking, full set of plates including sides, multicam iba with soft armor, ach helmet, m40 gas mask in a duffel. all brand new at an estate sale for $200, the guy said it was his buddies stuff, that he was special forces, used better stuff and none of it was on his turn in sheet, that was maybe 5 years ago. the lesson is go out there and look for stuff if there aren't any other larpers around you'll find treasure.
>>65370470Go on now, lick it, yeah like that, I'll add a couple extra bucks to the deal, oh yeah unghhuuhhh
>>65371205you are hired, /gqbagpfglarpgalignvg/ porno script writer>>65371168Mhm that does sound pretty good. Reminds me of how I found my 2230s.
>>65371132Also if you have unlimited monies, the absolute best less than overt plate is the Ceradyne SAEC followed by the Ceradyne Defender 275. The SAEC is absurdly rare, rarer than the 96034 but not as rare as the 2572575, and D275s you have to hunt down old DEA contract plates from 2011 and pray they pass tap / torque because they're strict do not drop. The D275s are only slightly heavier than the PBZSA and pick up B-32 API. The SAEC is allegedly damn near Level IV and 4lb flat. The PBZSAs are at least factory fresh and you can buy them right now.The new LSAPI plates are very promising and seemingly match the PBZSA on rating at 3.5lb size medium, standalone, but suffer from a raised VTP standard backface deformation limit of up to 58-62mm, which increases the risk of behind armor blunt trauma.
>>65370620Couple hundred bucks really, nothing too intense. Is that not enough?
>>65371283Buys you a decent dotBuys you a Eh to meh scopeid probably get a holosun that isnt a pistol optic or open emitter or a used aimpoint pro at that budget.Avoid vortex, sig and chinesium

This armor autism is getting out of control. How many plates do you autists even need? I bought my one set of HESCOs fucking years ago and haven't even thought about armor since. What are you even doing with it? You're not getting shot so it's not getting destroyed that way. And plates aren't even cool to collect imo. At least with gear like vests or carriers you get the aesthetic of specific eras, with plates they're all the same except for level of effectiveness so who fucking cares to own a bunch of different ones. You guys are so gay. Inb4 the resident armor autist/infographic doofus gets his panties in a wad and cries.
>>65371439Are you the Hesco 4400 guy?Anyway, it's just a fun autism subject and people ask the questions so other people answer. There are three armor threads on /k/ counting this one. I can't explain why but it's a hot topic.
>>65371439>And plates aren't even cool to collect imo.Depends on the plates. People pay thousands for certain Ceradynes with history. SAECs go for $5k a set just because they might have been there at the Bin Laden raid.>What are you even doing with it?Same thing you are, lol.>with plates they're all the same Except a lot of them don't do the job or have tricks up their sleeve. Very shady industry. Very easy to get screwed, which drives discussion.>who fucking cares to own a bunch of different ones. They do different jobs. Some are thinner and can be concealed, others stop emerging threats, some have better multi hit, some stop shots closer together because of a novel crack arrestor, I could go on. SUPER technical so I won't bore you.>You guys are so gayYou come into a place called gear queers, bear witness to talk of cat ears and armored skirts, and it's the plates which are gay?
>>65371444>There are three armor threads on /k/ counting this one. I can't explain why but it's a hot topic.wow, someone should really make a body armor general so newfags know where to go with questions
>>65371721>noBecause then /gq/ would die. Dividing the ranks is a losing game. The newbies are also coming here, as previous posts indicate.
Food for thought. /gq/ and /bag/ when both were active discussed armor and arrived at wildly different conclusions. There's no reason to separate the two if they're redundant and people arrive at different answers to the same question, because the adversarial debates when both are in the same room refine both arguments. One only needs to see last thread's LTC 28595 debate to see this is true. There is also nothing stopping people from talking about other topica as already discussed. People ask about armor, autists answer about armor. We need autists in other fields too... besides... uh... lamps.
>>65369232Also, something to look forward to, since the GA-8 .50 plate is only SiC + PE, that means the weight can easily come down through the use of SiC-TiB2, B4C-TiB2, or future ceramics like AlMgB14-TiB2. All of those China either has or is working on.The same plate but $1,500/set and... 7.6lb a unit would be very attractive. If China can stabilize Zylon, and they're trying to, then we could be talking 7lb flat.
>>65371762>Dividing the ranks is a losing game>custer, send half your men into the gully
>>65371721>make a body armor generaFucking why? What the fuck is your compulsion towards making a general? It is perfectly normal to make a thread on a limited topic, have the conversation run through, and fall off the catalog long before bump limit. The structure of generals is the worst place for question and answer. It's a containment for trips/namefags/avatarfags who just want to sit around and circle jerk eachother. Board health would actually improve if generals and their usual posters got banned.
>>65372070NTA. This guy has been asking for the armor autists to self-exile for over a year to a neo-/bag/. Weird obsession of his since that would mutually kill /gq/ and /bag/. Maybe that's the idea.I will say the armor discussion in the other threads is refreshing, because you get other guys who don't come here probably because they, as you describe, don't want to head into trip containment. I like it as it is. Home base /gq/ as a "master general" and people can make other topics for specific in depth issues.I will say the shills know to stay out of here but do show up in the other threads.
>>65348028Decent plate set for <$300?
>>65372125Pair of cop surp Protech 2120-5s from Hudsongunner. $275. 5.8lb a pop, good for 6x 7.62x51mm M80 at 51mm minimum spacing or 6x M855A1.https://hudsongunner.com/protech-2120-5-level-iii-stand-alone-rifle-plate-set-of-2-1011418/Most of the copsurp Level IVs in this bracket have multi-hit issues and tend to run much heavier than this.
>>65371132If you're on a budget, ferro slickster (Chinese copies are fine) and Hesco SRT plates. L210s are the cheapest but have no capability against .308 threats, you can usually get em for ≈400$.
>>65372143The L210 shares an alumina strike face with the FIT failure 4400 and there is a concern some L210s may accordingly be defective. It's a dated but okay-ish plate otherwise and also is not rated for M855A1, instead being rated for BZ API which is much rarer CONUS.The T212 is the modern equivalent but is just under $400/set from TRex so we're already over bro's budget. The 2120-5 is heavier and thicker but much more stout than any of Hesco's SRTs especially versus .308.
>>65372125Militech RF2 plates run just under $300 for multicurve 10x12s
>>65372278If they're still precollecting $50 tariff money for some reason then it'll run over $300. I'm still leaning on the 2120-5s for anon. Dated alumina-fiberglass layup, but the design is good, it falls within his budget, they're stout, and Protech is a proven brand except for the XCAL LP / AP shitters. For whatever reason Militech will not actually rate their RF2s for M855A1 except for the more expensive SiC model. Nonetheless it ultimately depends on the threats Anon needs to stop. If he can cut steel core out entirely then Gilliam's 2.5lb a pop Helions are right on the mark budget wise, but that's risky.
>>65372349Anon specifically wants low vis plates. Militech RF2 is relatively thick at 1". Hesco SRT plates are preferable imo. You can get M210s for 400 a pair on tacswap, so it's barely more than militech. IIRC M210s can stop m80, just not within nij bfd spec.
>>65372367*500$, still not that bad.
>>65372367The L211 also stops 7.62x54R LPS like the M210 <44mm BFD, so the backer is similar and they'll both do M80 but over 44mm BFD. How much over depends. Worst case scenario wear with a ten dollar trauma pad if you're in a jam. This depends on how flexible anon is with the $300 budget. You get better options the more you can throw into the pot.
>>65372371What is my use case for these plates as someone who is employed? I can’t think of any situation besides just wanting them. Home invasion? I’m barricading. Might be nice to have but if I’m considering donning plates I’ve got bigger problems. I’ve been to multiple developing countries and not once have I wished for plates. If anything I’ve just wanted more water/snacks.
>>65372586I slap mine on during holidays when the local retards start shooting randomly into the air. If I catch a round through a window from half a mile out, it's getting stopped. Paired with an old PASGT helmet and I'm gonna survive whatever bullshit they throw on a ballistic arc in my direction.
>>65372586Home invasions are probably the most realistic use case. Plate carriers that have tubes take like 10s to put on. YNs with 7.5" ARPs and Dracos are a common enough threat depending on your area to warrant getting plates.SHTF is pretty unlikely, but if people start looting and killing each other after a natural disaster like they did during Katrina, having plates would be pretty nice.
>>65372100>This guythese guysturns out what's left of /gq/ doesn't appreciate coming here and seeing walls of armor autism text, it's fucking exhausting to look at and chases away a lot of people who just don't care that much about platesat least if GQ died I would stop clicking on the thread only to be disappointed at this point it makes more sense for this thread to be a /bag/ that occasionally talks about nylon
>>65373052>Accidentially switches to singular halfway through the post"This guy" would be correct.>at least if GQ died I would stop clicking on the thread only to be disappointedYep, just wants /gq/ to die confirmed. Who the hell is listening to that argument? >HEY GUYS I HATE COMPLEX ARMOR DISCUSSIONS IN OUR HANGOUT SO I'M GONNA BITCH AND MOAN THAT WE SHOULD JUST BURN THE PLACE DOWNLook, bud, I hate to say it but there is nothing distinguishing a non-autistic version of /gq/ from /r/tacticalgear, and that is why /gq/ struggled to stay afloat in the past without armor autism. There are PLENTY of people who come here to talk about armor, which puts you in the minority I'm afraid, and is because /r/tacticalgear is infested with shills so you get the wrong answer with plates there almost every time. This is the one place on the internet which is shill free because shills don't get to butter up with mods. We are all equal. Dividing our ranks is self-destructive and gives them a hall pass to try and shuck armor and other gear for that matter which sucks.
>Speaking of gear...Best way to run 7.62 AK mags with a JPC? Ideally flapped, and mounts directly on without adapters.
NEW >>65373115NEW >>65373115NEW >>65373115NEW >>65373115NEW >>65373115BTW the armor autism is hecking valid, so concern trolls can fuck off. Post about gear if you want to. New edition is nylon edition fwiw.
>>65373052This. I know for a fact there's at least a couple of us that think the armor autism is annoying. No one minds you discussing armor. But the walls of text, that often time just repeat the same shit over and over again, is annoying. I used to post here pretty regularly but you guys are too embarrassing to be associated with now.
>>65373139And your solution? I remember back when the old guys ran /bag/ and it would be the same damn thread for a month./gq/ slowed down because you could get the same advice on reddit. Zoomers prefer reddit 10 to 1, this is a millenial website. /bag/anon redid the old /bag/ guide and new armor autism emerged which has actually kept /gq/ intact. You have the same issue as the other guy, assuming no samefaggery is afoot. Just talk about something else if you don't want to talk armor.
>>65373155My solution is you stick to your own armor thread. Who fucking cares if it only gets bumped every other day? At least the rest of us could actually discuss gear without you getting all butthurt and offended that not everyone wants to sift through walls of armor autism just to get an answer about some knee pads or a belt or something. /gq/ isn't staying alive because of your armor tism. It would still be just fine without you. Would it be slower? Maybe. But I'd rather a slow thread where we discuss actual gear than you reposting your infographics for the umpteenth time while shilling for $35 chineseum that I wouldn't recommend to Tyrone let alone /gq/. How many times have you posted about the $75 Protecs? It's at least half a dozen at this point.
>>65373169>My solution is you stick to your own armor threadYou realize you've been saying this for over a year now, yes? What have your efforts accomplished?>At least the rest of us could actually discuss gear You still can. I'm not your dad and can't stop you. Just talk about something else, lol!>gq/ isn't staying alive because of your armor tism. Then you weren't around in late 2024. It was dead as fuck.>while shilling for $35 chineseum>How many times have you posted about the $75 Protecs?
