But yes I do believe it uses blanks.

Thanks, it's apparently called the "ИП-1", but the project was stillborn, probably due to some Russian firearms regulations. Would've probably gone further if they had based it on a pump shotgun.

replaced it with an old worn out Romanian (I think?) palmswell hardwood handguard that I accidentally cracked and chipped putting it on because I'm a gigantic impatient retard and I don't really care about it. It's a WASR and that wood is worn as fuck, I just like how smooth it feels

Gents, I bought a WASR10/63 when I was 18 (15 years ago) and it's been chillin in my safe periodically slathered in oil basically the whole time since. I've been way more into shooting/buying/carrying pistols and the AK is my only rifle. I feel like I want to shoot it more now, but I literally don't know where to start.

>The 30 round mags I bought with it are "legal to own" in my state since I bought them pre-ban but I can't take them to the range
The mag buyers guide wasn't super clear, are the Magpul 10 rounders the best small cap mags for the price?
>It only has iron sights
How do I tell if my front sight is canted? It "looks" good to me. Should I just put an LPVO or small red dot on it anyway?
>I don't want to drop $130+ on a legit side rail mount.
Any good optic mount options for cheap?
>retard question incoming
Is the 15 year old 500rd tub of steal case wolf 7.62 good to shoot?

Take it out and shoot it. That's the start.
>are the Magpul 10 rounders the best small cap mags for the price?
Probably, but I don't really fuck with commercial mags.
>How do I tell if my front sight is canted?
Invert the rifle and place the sights on a flat surface. If the sights are straight, the ears on the front will both sit flat as will the rear sight.

>Should I just put an LPVO or small red dot on it anyway?
Sure, why not.
>I don't want to drop $130+ on a legit side rail mount.

>Any good optic mount options for cheap?
Not really. Airshit replica tier mounts will shift or just flat out break, so you're better off just buying once, crying once imo.
>Is the 15 year old 500rd tub of steal case wolf 7.62 good to shoot?
Lel, yes.

Sorry I'm just now answering this, I worked over the weekend into tuesday. Check out these next two pictures, looking inside the handguard and the bottom it really looks like wood/3D printed. It felt like painted wood. I have a lot of bakelite stuff and it was heavier than bakelite. I still don't know for sure maybe I sold a legit one for way too cheap. What do you think? Bakelite handguards are a lot more bulk than just a grip or a mag.
That sure looks like bakelite to me, but without having it in hand I couldn't be 100 percent sure.
Extremely dried out though.
>Like this one is starting to around the table that slots into the receiver and the cleaning rod hole, but yours is way worse off

The layer lines on the bottom of the grip are not indicative of bakelite mold, which is shown in the split seam down the middle on the pic I posted of a real one.
Appreciate the follow up though.

Hey everyone, I know this was asked 6 billion times online but cleaning after corrosive ammunition is confusing the shit out of me, pros will say use hot water and that would make sense but the inside of the gun especially the action is covered with grease and oils and there's likely residue on the piston and inside the barrel so wouldn't water be useless in this case because it would just run off the oily surfaces and leave the salts mixed in with oils and glued to the metal?
And wouldn't you also need to scrub everything while spraying with water? I've seen people just spray water on where most of the crap is but it just doesn't seem effective.
Are there any other kinds of solvents that can work here? I use a mixture of ATF and mineral spirits and it worked great for normal cleaning, I've only shot commercial new ammunition out of mine but have a bunch of old rounds too

The deals are not as few and far between as you are making them out to be. Currently there is almost 10 listings on gun broker, probably more if I just used the term "wasr" or "wasr 10". Better how? Besides it weighing a pound more, it's still just an AK.
Find the "cool" AK that you actually want instead of trying to just get an AK because FOMO.
>>
>>65377993
Better in the sense it's not known for having fucked sights and jiggly magazines. The whole appeal of the WASR is that it was a cheap beater AK to get your foot in the door, if the price of it is comparable to an M70 now why not just pick up an M70? Doesn't help that I've seen people talking about how trash the WASR furniture is so I'm going to need to pick up a new set right off the bat raising the cost even more.
Getting a real beater POS that doesn't cost an arm and a leg is an option but then you have the same issues as getting a used car, you're going to be putting more money into the thing that what you initially spent. I'd honestly rather spend more up front if it means I can guarantee a couple thousand rounds before something shits the bed. The only thing holding me back from making a decision is that with an M70 you pigeonhole yourself into Yugo parts.
>>
>>65378067
WASRs haven't been "known" for those issues in almost 20 years.
All AKs can have canted sights.
Cheap is relative, and as before, 30% less worth in your currency.
Yugos also used to be $500, but I'm not hearing the same energy towards their price jumps.
When I bought my OPAP it was cheaper than the WASRs were at the time, and everyone was bitching about how terrible NPAPs were.
Just bite the pillow and buy the AK you actually want, no matter the price, whether its a WASR or a Polytech.
>>
>>65378067
Yugo parts are very common now though, parts commonality would only have been an issue in the mitchell arms days when they imported the first zastavas in the 80s and 90s. So many yugo parts and kits have been imported in the last 20 years that theres nothing to worry about IMO.
>>
>>65375015
Just wait until you find out about the ammo situation
>>
>>65378129
Nta but
Are yugo parts interchangeable with regular AKM like bolt and parts of the bolt for example? I know handguards and gas tubes and side rails are different obviously but internals seem identical visually except the trunnion
>>
>>65377993
>>65378067
>>65378100
Yugolander here, we have a fuckton of old and new M70s or iterations of it sold everywhere, and a very limited selection of non fake AKs, mostly Jacks. Russian and Romanian AKMs are rare as fuck mainly because most were destroyed and neglected in the war and because local nations took pride in their fake AK making it overall more popular.
Sights are still off center including on mine which is a semi auto M05E2 made in 2025 so it's still a standard quirk I'm not bothered with, yes some of them still have canted handguards from the factory and not all mags fit perfectly, some jiggle but still work, original mags have bolt hold open which is almost useless but I guess some people like that feature.
M70 is a little bit heavier but it's not really noticeable. A lot of the older ones are underfolders and in my personal opinion it's fugly. Almost all modern ones have a weird selector/brake/safety where the only available semi auto function is located exactly where the automatic option is located on the non castrated AK, they put a stopper under the lever.
Spring retainer has a push button that holds it back so you don't have to jiggle the dust cover off or slap it when reassembling which is really nice.
The only thing I dislike is the lack of bore chroming which isn't an issue unless you treat your gun like a complete bubba.
So in general yeah it's better but not twice as good, and AK is generally a good gun so you really can and should go with whatever you think looks cool, you still can't really shoot or abuse any of them enough to the point where they fall apart and even if you could, you probably have enough money to spend on another one.
>>65378514
Yes, the bolt and bolt carrier are identical mechanically, it's basically an AK with some RPK features
And you can use normal handguards with it actually you just need to make an adapter but it's much simpler to 3D print them out of some tough filament in the year of our lord 2026/1448
>>
>>65378539
Forgot to add the stock mounts differently because on m70 the rear of the receiver is completely flat it doesn't have that tang protruding into the stock, and the side rail for optics is the one like on the SVD
>>
>>65377205
You'll get some light surface rust if you leave it dirty for weeks, and that's only a real problem in the barrel since it can fuck your accuracy up.
You can just wash them off with hot water directly then use WD40 to dry them, it's not rocket science, gas system and barrel will be dry enough for the wata to just flush everything out, greasy internals will be already protected from corrosion until you have time to clean that off properly later, use some sort of degreaser then spray with water if you really feel like you need to.
In general it's not that much of an issue like YouTube would make you believe it's not like your gun is gonna fall apart if you don't do the procedure 3 seconds after shooting but in general there's not much use of shooting corrosive ammunition mostly because it's not that common or cheap anyway, and a lot of these rounds are old and can produce misfires

Deal to have a book written about the Azov Battalion. You already know who they are; if not, Azov was a Ukrainian neo-nazi paramilitary that operated in Donbass from 2014 onward, and was folded into the National Guard of Ukraine due to the war. Their emblem is a wolfsangel, and they historically have had sonnenrads (and straight wolfsangels) in their iconography. They were made into a full Corps in 2025, and that corps' shoulder patch is a Wolfsangel and a very clearly German-derived eagle.
The man in the video is Carolus Löfroos, a Swede who joined Azov in 2014 who had said book deal.
>who's headstamp
Headstamp Publishing is owned by Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons, they publish mostly historical literature about small arms. Ian had a deal to publish that man's account of time with Azov, but the usual suspects got pissy because "publishing a book by a literal, indisputable neo-nazi" and Ian backed down.

This was all like 5ish years ago.

The only issue Headstamp had that I was aware of at all before making this post right here was the one with the Azov guy. That's what I was talking about.
But after reading up on Popenker's book and why (and when) it was withdrawn from Headstamp, it seems to be related to the Azov book's attempt at publishing because Popenker is Russian and the dates in the timeline of events coincide, so they are very likely related to one another with Headstamp losing both books.

I didn't have a 300blk Krink, I had a PSA AK102 which shares the same bolt and trunnion geometry as far as I know. The issue I had is very well documented. Something out of spec causing primers to blow and primer debris to get stuck in the firing pin channel causing dragging on the firing pin, and deadlining the gun until you disassemble the bolt entirely. Unacceptable.

This is not true. While I cannot vouch for the 300blk out krink, the trunnion geometry debacle with the ak102 psa shits out is not the same design the krink uses. The issue with 102 that psa offers is they use a 74 style bolt with a akm pattern trunnion which cause significant play with lug locking surfaces. M26 lemon grenade did a good breakdown of his ak102 issues but I wouldn't doubt the sensative bald woman temperment he has made him delete it or not.

Selling my VEPR 12. Nice setup, folding stock, SGM 3 piece choke kit (Modified, full, extra full), MOLOT grip, russian railed handguard and russian molot folding vertical grip. Can include the Eotech EXPS 3-4 and the Streamlight TRL-2 HL light and laser and pressure pad combo for GIGN clone inspired. Comes with 3x VEPR12 mags. Don't have price finalized but I'm hoping to get ~$1800 or so for the setup sans Eotech and Streamlight bits. Would do $2450 with the Eotech and stremlight setup.

I am certain that psa uses propreitary specs for the krink. Can someone help? I tried to turn this handguard to straighten it out, it came crooked from the factory, front of it is nicely centered but the back isn't.
I couldn't do it no matter what, tried using a wrench, vise, tapping with hammer but it didn't move a millimeter and I almost deformed the gas tube. Not only is it annoying to look at but it causes issues when mounting stuff since it has a top rail that's also polymer, and I obviously can't remove it to change handguards either.

Less hulk strength, more finesse.
Are you pressing downward to depress the upper handguard spring, while you rotate?
A glove might help too.
If all else fails, hit it with your purse.

There's no retainer spring on mine, it's just a single piece of plastic that's stuck on the tube and that's about it.
When I did manage to make it move a hair all I did is turn the front part (right side of picrel) which didn't need moving, the part I have an issue with seems like it's welded together ffs
>>
>>65397149
Hell even if I decide to buy another set of furniture for this gun I don't think it's gonna be possible to remove this handguard without destroying it since I'd probably have to melt the plastic off with a torch

>There's no retainer spring on mine
You should still be pressing in the middle of the handguard as though there was one.
Lubricate it here and try again later.
It had to go on there, it'll come off without breaking it; unless you're impatient and continue to try and brute force it.
>>
>>65397183
I was about to ask if it's gonna be of any help if I drip some oil there and I did that, how they put this thing on I have no clue at all, only idea that comes to mind is that they heated the plastic up with something to make it softer, idk
All I really need is to make it straight, the handguard is strong enough to even hold a red dot without it losing zero
>>
>>65397198
Throwing in the freezer might not hurt to try. Or running it under hot water for the opposite effect.
I recall some guys using a strap wrench, in lieu of one of these tools.
Don't destroy it though, if you can't get it have a friend give it a go. Maybe a second opinion, in person, can figure it out. gl
>>
>>65397215
That tool looks nice and I'd make it but don't have any machinery to bend the sheet metal like that and I honestly expect it to just bend out of shape with how hard this pos is clamped on
I thought about making a custom wrench in cad and laser cutting it out of something thick to sort of grip the thicker part of the fas tube better but I don't know if it's gonna do much for me, I've been fighting this thing for almost 2 months now
If I make the wrench I'll post the dxf here or somewhere else and link it, might be useful for some people, from what I understood there's no difference between real aks and m70s as far as this gas tube nut goes
>>
>>65397256
Or I guess I should keep it like this since it's stuck on so strong I expect it to be rigid enough to hold a red dot without losing zero
Unfortunately I love the long eye relief but there's no railed gas tubes available in my country at least none I've found for sale
But thanks again

I need some advice. So I bought a parts kit a while back thinking I was going to build an AK. I need a barrel, the front trunnion, a receiver, and some rivets I guess. I have access to a drill press and a hydraulic press.
I’m not sure if it would be worth it for me to go through with building it or if I should just find someone to sell it to. I mean I’d like to build a scrappy old AK, but I don’t know how much the stuff I need will cost or if it’d be worth it. I forgot I don’t even have a spot welder.
>>
>>65400905
>bought a parts kit
>no front trunnion
Huh?
You have the tools to do it at least, but the specific fixtures to do a lot of the work cleanly are costly, and aren't really worth it anymore vs paying a builder or selling it unless you plan to build a few AKs.
You can get an 80% receiver that has the rails welded already to save needing a welder. Barrels and rivet sets are plentiful.
Finding a trunnion is a bit weird, did you buy a milled receiver kit and not realize? If you just need a trunnion, either surplus for a kitbash or you can try one of the new-made virgin WBP ones.

You bought it from an idiot, then. Trunnions are not the "gun" part (in the US), you can ship them just fine. How did he think he got it in the first place?
Sorry about your matching trunnion, but it's not the end of the world. Surplus one or new virgin WBP one would work, you'd just have to do the rather difficult task of force-matching your bolt to the new trunnion. If you really want this gun built, assuming you've never worked in AK building before (you haven't), I'd heavily consider looking for a builder.
Headspacing a barrel is one thing and is easily doable with drunk-hillbilly tier machine knowledge, matching a trunnion and bolt is another thing entirely.
>screws were just cut off
It's a kit you saved from a screwbuild, or are those rivets with the heads cut off from the demill process? If they're actually screws, yea cut a slot and turn them out. If they're rivets, they should just pop out with a bit of elbow grease to start the movement.

Paint is paint, what matters is the material underneath. "Real" factory AKs often had dogshit finishes too once they left the factory. Armory paintjobs are never going to be as good as factory.
>how much do you estimate that to cost
Depends on where you are and how long you're willing to wait. Expect close to the cost of a new WASR if you include the kit itself in the total cost (assuming you paid 300-500ish for the kit). The last time I had a kit built I paid ~1000 total including 350 for the kit itself (Bulgarian AK74), but that was also 2019 so ymmv.
Look around online, check a few forums for suggestions in your area or ask local shops/at shows if they know anyone. A lot of AK builders have also either passed away (Marc Krebs most notably) or retired from AK building in the last 10 years, so ymmv. Don't even think of "big name" people to do your gun unless you live near them (M13 and Rifle Dynamics are both in the Vegas area, for example), and even then they all overcharge for their work, so look for smaller shops willing to do it.

Apparently m193 5.56 slaps out of a 20” barrel AR. What is the AK equivalent to this?
>>
>>65402414
41 cm barrel burns 99% of the powder by the time the 7.62 bullet exists so there's really no practical need for different sizes other than standard, not sure about 5.45 though

This is what I also thought, when assembled there's no way to get it to move or vibrate at all even if I hit it with something. The optic isn't bad, it's ok. My buddy bought it, used it a few times and it worked on a 308 but found a better scope so it shouldn't have issues with x39
>>65402793
Shit I didn't even notice that, it does seem to be cut at an awkward angle, when it's installed the metal brackets of the gas tube line up perfectly but there is still some visible error on the rail, and in picrel you can see there's a bigger gap between the slots on the left side vs the right one
I guess that's just how it came out of the factory and they compensated the same way they deal with canted front sight post

I'm from one of the former Yugo countries so they're popular and available here, all of these M05 something rifles are basically just M70 but tacticool.
They don't have chrome lined barrels but they're made out of some alloy that has a fuckton of chrome in it so it's almost impossible to get rusted, forgot the exact name of it. The civilian versions like mine are the exact same as military ones in your pic and have the exact same hardware except for the trigger and sear of course.

There's some things here and there, UTG, AC unity, Zenith etc, but not too much, most of the aftermarket gun related things in general are either handmade or made by gunsmiths here.
I shoot nothing but igman m67 fmj out of it primarily because it just works, isn't corrosive and is almost cheaper than pistol rounds, sometimes costs the same lol

>SAk-80

Designed and manufactured by the Revolutionary Small Arms Factory (RSAF) in Enfield Oblast. The concept that would become the SAk-80 can trace its origins back to the late 1940s when an ambitious programme to develop a new cartridge and new class of rifle was launched in the Union of Britain after the Great Patriotic War. This effort was put on the back burner when the decision was made to license the 7.5×54mm MAS-47 rifle of the French Peoples Republic as the Automatic Loading Rifle. Still the idea of a bullpup rifle and an intermediate cartridge remained of considerable interest to the Union military, who contracted a series of prototypes throughout the 1960s and 1970s. The Prototype for the SAk-80 was approved for adoption in 1976 by the traitorous Heath government and the first examples became known to the free world after Russian backed Guerillas in Bengal captured samples from Union Paras. Widespread adoption didn't begin until 1980, so many associate it with the regime of the widely beloved General Secretary Madeline "Maddy" Thatcher. One of the most iconic photos of the "Woman of Steel" is of her holding an SAk-80 while visiting members of the Union Spetznaz unit known as the "Special Air Service." By 1985 the SAk-80 was ubiquitous in the Union Military, it could be seen in the hands of Union occupation forces in West Germany facing off against PATO forces in the East and directed towards the Icelandic Coast Guard during the deadly fisheries clashes of the 1980s. The disastrous Blair regime brought about the collapse of the Union of Britain and its dissolution in 1992. But the SAk-80 soldiers on, in services with both sides of the ongoing Scotland war and remaining popular with the world's few remaining communist regimes like the

I'm aware of Zastsva AKs m8, but I appreciate the rundown of your PAPG version anyways.
I asked about the aftermarket for two reasons.
The first was to say why not utilize the side rail and get an dovetail optic mount, instead of relying on the upper handguard rail.
The second was to beg you to send me a few of the folding stocks and railed handguard sets lel.
Also what kind of mags you guys got floating around?
Get any "rare" Bosnian mags?

Did you use the screw in barrel or the press in? I see tort tort seems to make both. AOA has that layaway deal and I’m tempted. Not sure how they handle serial matching though (think like how Childers gives an option) of if you’re just stuck with whatever. Picrel is from Mongolian Military Museum and has been tempting me to go with a milled. The amount of slabs they had was impressive.

Press fit, since thats the barrel the kit came with. Regardless of that screw in barrels are a massive pain requiring a lathe to cut back the shoulder for headspacing
>>
>>65403344
Good to know. I’ll have to see what the kbk kits come with. Those kits are first in the runnings due to being cheapish, but open to all options at this rate.
>>
>>65403332
Also since all the tortort marking are on the bottom under the trigger guard I didn't worry about markings. I do want to at least polish and reblue it though, the finish is a bit too matte compared to originals
>>
>>65403300
>>65403326
I'll get a lot of hate for this but to me the most real looking one was always the 74
>>
>>65403353
I'm almost positive all milled polish guns used screw in barrels, but the kits coming in have nice long front stubs, perfect for a reweld
>>
>>65403354
I’ll live with it. Worst case I can deep dive markings and just have them engraved while the torttort markings stay out of sight. Finish wise, I’ll likely just try to match the kit. Seems to be a couple variants for the polish of which im not yet far enough read into yet.
>>65403357
The 74 definitely has a look, but it is its own thing. When I think “classic” >>65403326 comes to mind.
>>
>>65403362
I think you’re right there. Barring rewelds, I think you’ve got the option either to go fully clone correct or do the Bulgarian style with a press fit. Largely depends on if the kit comes with the original barrel or not. Might be easier just to have a radom barrel fit versus buying a new threaded.

I bought the B-10m/B-19 zenitco handguard set but now I'm regretting not going full retard with a longer rail like the sport-4. Was the b-10m/B-19 still a good choice for a an AK with a 16" barrel? I think it might be because the shorter rail saves on weight and I'm not sure I need all that rail space.

There are a few sport-4's on gunbroker for about $750.

You Euros really go for everything tacticool? That thing is railed out.
I'm sure there's more than a few guys who would take those M21 folding stocks for their M85/M92 for a little something different than the standard UF.
I prefer my M77s to be a little more traditional. With a Tabuk stock.

Yeah I also think 3k is a lot for any rifle in general unless it has some insane historical value or something, but if I had a ton of money and there was one available I'd buy an M91
> The M77 variants here seemed fairly well received
I'm sure they're ok rifles, over here it was mostly the marksmen complaining about some of them, so it was probably the case that someone was salty about it not being able to blow caps off bottles at 1km or something
> You Euros really go for everything tacticool? That thing is railed out.
Kind of, see for some reason we don't have middle ground and classical rifles are old timey while military style stuff has to be tacticoolized for some reason I know I hate it too. Hell I would probably have been a sellout and bought an ar15 if it looked like one of the real m16s but every ar has to look goofy like a space movie gun
This handguard with rails isn't even useful in general especially not on the dmr, it's literally just aesthetic piece in this case. Could be made to look nicer, but the m91 stock is cool as fuck

Side rail has really come out on top for me in terms of convenience and reliability. It's just way too nice to be able to slide your entire optic off the gun at will if you want to shoot irons or swap optics etc, and for the most part as long as you get a high quality one it holds zero, trading weight for convenience and reliability basically. The TDI X47 works but idk its kinda fucking heavy

I think a pic as flat-on and centered as possible is the best I can hope for. Still doesn't do much for me unless I want to add some bondo or clay to a polymer mag and sculpt by eye which is time consuming and not accurate. I was also going to say to use a flatbed scanner (common trick with flat parts using a ruler to ensure the scale is right) but the baseplate tabs would make it not sit flat, so we're right back to square one which means...
>If you're remotely serious about trying to remake one, this is going to be a necessity.
My fears may be true lol, especially considering how strict I am with detail. On another project, I needed a spare trigger guard as the old one broke before I got the gun. Needed a lot more than that, too. Figured making my own might be reasonable, given I could find a trigger guard, but if I found one then I wouldn't need to mold one anymore lol. Anyways, a whole parts gun nicer than mine later, I figured out the issue, molded a good trigger guard, and I now have a mold to make as many spares as I want nearly identical to the original down to the texture and sheen. I still want to try different materials and fillers, though. Definitely going to make this more expensive of an endeavor, BUT it may just pay for my rare parts and let me have some spare repro beaters. Literal unobtanium like those dust covers, though, those I can model, print, bondo, sculpt, and smooth up for molds. There's a lot less precision and detail in something like that, not to mention no one has one to compare it to anyways, though I'd try as hard as I can to get it right. I think I'll start on pistol grips and more common polymer parts I can actually get good condition examples of. There's a lot lower stakes and cost there!
>>

Yeah between the sam5 and m85 your good on 5.56 AKs. I've had a friend that owned the Beryl, m90, and Sam5 and the latter was the most accurate but overgassed. M90s need to be $800 to be worth buying in this economy but theyre being run by a Bosniak jew. Now would be a good time to pick up a higher quality M4 clone, the market will never be more saturated with AR companies beginning to drop like flies. Try to buy under msrp I guarantee there's deals. The election coming up may not be a blue wave but there'll still be blood in the streets as Uncle T becomes more politically irrelevant

>I think a pic as flat-on and centered as possible is the best I can hope for
That pic is about as flat as I can pull off.
I was hoping the scaled cut pad would help, but I suppose not if you're trying to get more 3 dimensional type scans.
>a flatbed scanner
I'm not sure my HP printer/scanner is up to snuff. But I could try that if you'd like. I doubt it's gonna give you any better idea than that pic does though.
>Literal unobtanium like those dust covers, though, those I can model, print, bondo, sculpt, and smooth up for molds. There's a lot less precision and detail in something like that.
The plum ones are literally just overmolded on steel top covers, so the only point of contention would be thickness of the polymer over it and keeping it consistent over the whole thing.
>not to mention no one has one to compare it to anyways
The guys who actually have them would, but yeah. Those pictures aren't from some museum, they're from some guy's collection.
>I think I'll start on pistol grips and more common polymer parts I can actually get good condition examples of
That's a much more reasonable place to start, but Ronins Grips already does that and has been for years so it'll be tough to compete.
Again, I hope you do it all; but I have doubts. Not necessarily in your abilities, but just the daunting task of trying to replicate intricate items.
>used CamScanner app for this try, maybe it'll be better for what you're looking for, but I doubt it.

Possibly but that's not how I know you. I'm the anon who informed you about the so called drain hole mags, as far as them being a known/"named" thing.
>nork 20s
>That's a thing?
Yep. Atlantic recently had some actually.
The spine is truly flat, unlike Chinese flatbacks.
They seemingly hammer the spine flat and spot weld it, which is how you can identify them.

Yeah I agree that M90s are overpriced. Sadly I think the days of sub 1k good import AKs are behind us. Probably gonna be able to get WASRs for like 900 for another year or two and then theyll be 1k too. Gonna finally cave and get an ar(gay) preferably something sopmod block 2 ish(cool)

Thanks, anon. I'll update with what I make somewhere (where have the gunsmith and /k/reate threads been?) but it'll be a while. I think I'm going to try my hand at molding off 10/22 mags for testing thin parts and play with that. I'll probably fill some parts to aid in stiffness too. Pistol grips, I've seen the anon here and several others probably do it too. They seem like a good place to test for toughness and filler/color use, though, and I want to make some repros of earlier production pistol grips for certain guns that are actually pretty rare.
>scanner
They're surprisingly good, but like I said, the tab not letting them sit flat will make the image not work. That pic is the best I've seen for a reference.
>the plum cover is overmolded on steel
Why would they even bother to do that? Seems like added weight, lol.
>...except the guys who actually own them
Shit, lol.

>>65412567
I've seen the flat back Nork mags but I didn't realize they also made similar 20s.
>was listed for $140/2
That's...surprisingly somewhat reasonable? I see people ask like $40-60 for Chinese 30s online and Bakelite mags are like $100-125.

How often do tort tort receivers come back in stock? I did the layaway wz60 despite my better judgment. I wanted that type 3 though. Just need to get receiver and barrel. Plan to do press in route.
>>
>>65414042
It could be anywhere from 1-6 months depending on material availability and what you're after in particular.
Type 3 receivers are not a "high volume" item, expect 4-6 month windows between production batches. Most of what Tortort does is contract work for bigger things, not receivers, so you're after a niche product within a small pocket of the total shop time.

Check back in September/October, if they're still OOS try again in February.
Do also check third party retailers, some will have stock; Centerfire and Atlantic might still carry Tortort receivers (they both used to, at least).
>>
>>65414060
Yeah, just their press in variant. I figured I was in for a wait which is fine. I happened to check last week and they had some available, but I hadn’t yet made up my mind on type 3 goodness. I’ll be searching again tonight. Looks like Atlantic/others are also out but I could have missed something. That and barrel with the correct profile are going to be fun. Worth it in the long run though. I dream of a 9lb ak.

The receiver will be what? A couple hundred bucks, same with the barrell. Just save a paycheck or a couple.

Zastava should warranty out his rifle. I have a m77 and m70 and both run fine. The only hiccups I had with both were ftf but I suspect those were mag related. 1 because the m77 uses csspecs mags, and last I remember, my ftf in the m70 was from a worst korea mag. Also, watching that guy's vid, sounds like he forgot to register the gun for warranty or didn't even reach out. Sounds like a boomer problem to me.

To be fair, this is all speculation on my part. For all I know it could just be a metal "skeleton". That would explain the extra ribs on it.
My guess is that just the polymide wasn't stiff enough to keep and maintain the shape of the top cover.

Here you can see the metal on the front tab and the rear hole where the recoil spring assembly comes through.
Seems like all the raised ribbing would be where metal reinforcing could be placed, if it's not just wholly overmolded.

You could go the Toth Tool/PSA route and clone Bulgarian waffles. Make some of the less prevalent "rare" colors and you might have a nice little niche that nobody's really tapped into.
I'd love to have a few Arctic White waffles for wintertime fun.
>Although that has a higher risk of getting sent a C&D by Arsenal, like PSA or have to pay royalties like Toth, jacking up the price to where it's the same as Arsenal mags.

I'm having trouble striking a balance between able to be made and repros that won't get me sued/C&D'd if I make them, especially when making molds from an original or trying to exactly replicate a design. That's why Russian and old out of production (or even prototype) parts seem to be the way to go. Mags may be a bit of a challenge to work smoothly and source reasonable stand-ins for the guts and floorplate. I can't do thermoplastics/injection molding (ABS, Nylon, etc) but making a not-quite-bakelite product seems feasible if I can find the resin I need in the right color, ideally clear or white so I can add pigments and fillers to match. How close I can get to the right properties, I'm not yet sure. I can say I want to make sure heat doesn't soften these materials easily; no sense making something the sun (or warm gun) can easily warp like it's a vinyl record unless it's strictly for display and light use, which would be a lame outcome IMO. I want these parts to have a reasonable amount of durability.
>rare colors
That's the neat thing about this; I could make any color. Maybe some people like their bakelite parts more red, orange, or with more filler, grain, or mottling. Maybe someone wants a rare color variation like you. Hell, you want a border guard mag, I could do it in the same mold as regular bake mags as IIRC there's no physical differences (anyone have one for comparison?). Or maybe you want it in a color that never existed like blue. Anything's possible. I'm no expert in these materials, far from it, but I think I may be able to at least make some parts that someone out there wants. IDK about you, but as good as KCI fakelite is, it just doesn't do the job up close (painted). I'll probably be able to tell on mine too; I just hope it's closer.

They're the same dimensionally and some even have the same mold numbers, as shown here. (these aren't mine)
The reason I thought of the Bulgy waffles was for ease/cost of getting your hands on an example to use as a mold/casting template.
>IDK about you, but as good as KCI fakelite is, it just doesn't do the job up close (painted)
Couldn't say, I only have the real deal.
But I've never seen a fakelite that I didn't immediately know it wasn't a bakelite.
Unfortunately, there's just nothing quite like the real thing.

>green and regular even share mold numbers
Well, that's good. Keeps costs and risk of molding rarer parts down.
>bulgy waffles easy to get
I do wonder if the texture might trap bubbles, though I have a pressure pot so they should be minimal even if I have issues. Fine texturing seems to be a risk in some materials, though, and may require (better) mold release or a much more careful removal. I've torn texturing out of a silicone mold of a part before. First pour & pull tends to take any dirt, dust, or paint left by the part the mold was made from. Unfortunately, I took some fine texture as well as the part showed the color of the mold in the fine detail. May be nothing, may be a realistic concern. A source of clean and scratch-free parts like those bulgarian mags is an ideal test bed, though.
>fakelite
Fwiw, the RWB mags have impressed me the most. They're just too smooth and there's a missing detail at the top (the milled area where a steel mag would have reinforcing plates) where it's also too smooth. The baseplate is even bake-style and painted, although a hair thinner compared to my AK74 mag. The follower IIRC has that weird Korean rubber piece in it but is otherwise a good copy. Hell it even has fake mold numbers. Frankly, if it was in a gun on a rack, at a match, or in a video or movie, it'd be hard to tell unless you focused on it and actually had enough knowledge to pick the details. All that being said, it's still just not up to my standards. The milled "side plate" area is just flat with the mag and doesn't have texture, which probably means increased side to side wobble. The paint, while it can be close, is still paint, and can still chip. It's also smooth as fuck, and strangely so. And very flat and opaque. Just can't bring myself to buy one given I regularly run into decent deals on surplus or desirable commercial gun junk, just not a bakelite mag yet. No sense buying an RWB when I could get a good surplus steel for about the same price.
