Okay /hg/ since this is a wheelgun thread I'll bring something to show and tell. Pls no bully.

Never been much for revolvers so here's the only one I own. Heirloom hand me down. This was my great grandmother's dime-store apron gun. She lived in the rough part of a textile mill town back in the 50s and 60s. Omega Rohm .22 short. EDC'd in her apron every day when she walked to the mill for work or up the street for groceries but apparently never carried on a Sunday. Apparently liked to practice with it in the basement of her house. I inherited it from an uncle when my grandmother passed back in 2004. Kept in a dime-store bible box for who knows how many decades.

Grandma on my mother's side left us a hi standard .38 that a shit uncle sold for misplaced religious beliefs back in the early 2010s, we don't speak to him anymore

.380 is okay under some circumstances. Hit me up when I can get a ppk/s in 9mm. .380 is okay as a holdout/back-up gun. You might be okay with a .380

A USP .45, bone stock, can eat .45 Super.
However, I bought a Jarvis barrel and a 20# Wolff external coil USP spring to match what my LWA 6" slide and 24# spring can handle. My M&P I will only use factory or mid handloads.

3" 1911s are a bit of a hassle.
The high cycic rate of the reduced mass of the slide is often too fast for the magazine to fully present the next round for feeding. This high cyclic rate can also cause the slide to start extraction before chamber pressure drops, leading to a good amount of failures to extract.
To combat this, 3" guns and their accompanying magazines are usually oversprung to slow the cyclic rate in speed up round presentation, but the heavy springs wear out quickly and make the gun hard to rack and mags hard to load as well as starting to have the aforementioned cycling problems once they do start wearing.
You can avoid the heavy springs if you use lighter recoil loads like 185gr bullets (one of the reasons that 9mm sub-compact 1911s tend to work better than .45s) but then you can't run 230gr reliably.
>>
>>65474574
dam that sounds like trouble that i dont need in my life but i need to think about it more. i have heard that 3in 45 1911s have trouble feeding so maybe ill have to look at some other 1911 style subcompact/pocket size in a diff caliber, thx brother
>>
If a slide doesn't have the tabs for an optic but it has the footprint for it is that a big deal? The tabs go into the optic, not into the slide.

I've got one in fuddy-five.

The first box it wanted to nose-dive at least once a mag. Apparently that's a thing where different feed lip profiles is the fix so I bought some Hybrid magazines and went to the range. The gun then operated fine on all magazines. Go figure.

I've got a couple hundred rounds through it now, before work started taking all my time, and find that I like how it shoots. Recoil with 185's is not harsh at all and manifests mostly as a roll. I could shoot the thing all day long if I had the money for the ammo. Of course, there is a thing with the 3 inch guns and recoil springs. You're supposed to change them every 500 rounds or so and an extra flat-wound recoil spring came with mine.

I was checking the parts list, the only difference between a USP in .40 and 9mm is the slide and barrel. If I switched out the barrel, any idea if the gun would still function reliably? I believe the .40 slide has more metal in it, but idk if that would make a difference
>>
>>65475376

I bought an sp2022 in 9mm for $400 a couple of years ago. It came with the original box, 4 mags, and a stupid holster that it came with. This looks like it was maybe shot a handful of times. Sometimes people will buy guns, maintain them well and not shoot them - and then you can buy it for cheap.
>>
>>65475386
Most likely not. The slide is different because they had to remove significant material to lighten it to improve reliability with 9mm. The USPS was originally designed with .40/.45 in mind. That still wasn't really quite enough and the 9mm version had a lot more reliability issues than the .40 or .45 USPs, particularly when new.
>>
I carry a 40 every day
>>
>>65475386
you will probably have reliability issues
the meta a long time ago was to buy a trade-in .40 for cheap and swap the barrel, but you'd inevitably encounter people having cycling and extraction reliability issues

Is it based that I’m just better at shooting revolvers than handguns?
>>
>>65475986
Cringe that you can't shoot both well.
>>
>>65475986
Are revolvers not handguns?
>>
>>65475986
People train more with inferior things all the time. I'm sure there are archers that are better with a bow than they would be with a handgun. So no what you're doing isn't weird
>>
>>65475992
I guess they’re basically the same. I just think autoloaders when I think handguns.
>>
>>65476057
The thing is I rarely ever shoot. Like last month I took my little snub nose 38 and hit 5 of 5 shots on a milk jug from about 20 feet. With my Glock 17 and 5 rounds of 9mm I couldn’t hit it from the same distance.
>>
>>65476075
Oh so basically around beginner for both?
>>
>>65476075
>Like last month I took my little snub nose 38 and hit 5 of 5 shots on a milk jug from about 20 feet
So, less than seven yards. Are you cocking the revolver into single action?

I'm inclined to believe that other anon. You seem like a beginner.
>>
>>65476144
he cant hit a milk jug at 6 yards with a glock 17, he's essentially noguns tier with pistols

I guess it depends on the caliber and the weight of the optic. The screws are capable of a tremendous amount of clamping force. A pair of 4-40 screws tightened to 10 inch pounds (most optics call for 12-20in lb mind you) produce 13,440 ounces of clamping force. A typical pistol dot weighs a little over 1 ounce, maybe 1.3 oz and recoil produces something like 5,000 G. So those two 4-40 screws, without lugs, are producing a little more than twice the clamping force "necessary" to hold the optic, at 2/3 the torque spec. A post-type footprint (with posts that extend up into the screw holes) would up that to the yield strength of the plate. Lugs not so much because they are not precision-fit to the holes in the optic and rarely are tight let alone 100% perfectly placed

Still optics do sometimes come loose. Ironically I have not had a lug-less optic come loose but have had a couple of lug-full optics come loose

So is it a big deal? No, especially not with 9mm and below. But if it's a big fat heavy optic like 2+ ounces or a particularly spicy caliber yeah it could be a problem
>>
>>65475986
No. Revolvers typically balance better, have superior ergonomics (no mag in grip) and almost always have better triggers
Its like saying "why am I a better shot with a scoped remington 700 than a mosin nagant"
>>
>>65474633
>>65476153
I know were working with a pistol slide, but couldn't you drill into the slide and add your own yourself?

>>65476163
The r700 has a much much tighter MOA than a mosin, even with irons it would outperform

the average intermediate shooter can run a successfull bill drill in like sub four seconds
being unable to hit what is essentially an a-zone target from six and change yards with five rounds untimed is an indication that you need to train a lot more
shooting a durr rifle and shooting a semiautomatic handgun are two completely different and almost unrelated skillsets

The light mounted ones are more practical since they are heavier, have more functionality, and may not even need a custom holster. I have tried 4 versions.

Fit wise, I don’t think they’re that great. I had the earliest ones though. It directs too much blast horizontally to use indoors for me. Very distracting when shooting in an indoor stall. If you shoot outdoors exclusively they should be fine. There allegedly is issues with them bending the polymer frame, as the muzzle blast pushes the comp downwards the frame does have some flex that is apparent in administrate results’s slow mo.

The shield at least can be bought real cheap from Botach Surplus. They have Protech 1936P Level IIIs for $500 or less. Steel body bunkers for same or less.
The rest either Botach Surplus for Protech or Point Blank brand stuff, or chinamaxx. The big three Chinese brands are Militech, Jinwudun, and GBES (genuine bulletproof equipment store).
Just keep in mind those 4S17Ms suck the big pp against tungsten .308 out of a long barrel, as many IVs do. Dated alumina fiberglass design. If you want to feel INVINCIBLE then go buy some Gilliam 8002s. They're tougher, Silicon Carbide - PE tile array, and technically lighter. Tested up to tungsten .300 winmag Swiss P AP and .416 rem mag solids.

the 60DS feels cheap in your hands because of how light it is, but it's not a cheaply-built gun, just very light for its size
Grip angle takes a bit to get used to, but it's a nice soft-shooting gun with low recoil for a .357 mag
My 30DS came with a psychotically light and short single action pull. I'm talking like a sketchy amount of travel and I can almost make it break with a straightened paperclip

I played with a used 40DS at a gun store that was like this, I mean like no noticeable travel, sub 2 lb pull. Pretty much as soon as your finger touched the trigger it dropped. I assumed it must have been fucked with. Double action felt really really nice though.

Yeh I dunno. I went and held a bunch of 1911 this weekend and I just didnt like how sharp some of them felt. I like the checkering on the main spring housing. I just cant seem to find the right combination for what Im after.
I watched this video the other day where someone compares the delux to the standard, and you can see they swapped out some of the parts on their gi model, and was thinking about my options. I really want the novac sights though. Any idea how much it would cost to get a dovetail cut rework?

Yeh but then my hands will be worse at the other stuff I do (fine scale modeling). In your experience does the checkering really matter to you while shooting for handling the firearm? Or do you just prefer it aesthetically?
>>
>>65477693
I don't believe you. Not because I'm an arg schizo (wow they hate P4Xanon over there), but because there's no way that autist stop shooting as much cold turkey.
>>
>>65477702
I honestly like it less than the 30DS but both are perfectly fine shooters
the 60DS kind of feels like pointing one of those universal remotes from the early 2000's that's shaped like a lady's vibrator at things, just angular. it's balanced towards the muzzle but the whole thing feels like it weighs nothing so it's just a strange experience. Take my experience with a grain of salt because shooting the rhino comprises probably 1% of my total range time per year so it could be that I'm acclimated to the balance of relatively heavy semiauto pistols.
it's very fun though
>>
>>65477711
It’s the main texture point when I’m drawing the firearm out of my holster, so my grip doesn’t shift while drawing, it’s where my dominate hand is also clamping as well. I don’t understand how you felt a bunch of factory guns are sharp, factory guns tend to have very dull serrations while semi custom or custom guns are very sharp since they’re done by hand

Insane kydex creations makes a g43x PL2-mini holster. I've carried a 509c in my IKC holster for years and like it BUT it's much more expensive than the average good holster brand with longer lead times. Price you pay for having 60+light options for all their idk 50 some pistol options I guess.

Way too late of a reply but at $350ish FN509 is the best deal in firearms atm. Nobody else in the sub $400 category has grip texture, finish quality, and QC at FN's level. I love mine, should be crossing 17k rounds without a gun related failure next range trip.

Well speak of the devil. nta but I too have a question about the 1911. So I used to own an actual Colt series 80 in 45 ACP. Honestly I found it was too heavy to carry, and I wasn’t a fan of 45. Does 38 super feel closer to shooting 9mm? Also, is he commander model any notable amount lighter? If I do get another one, I’m just gonna get a Tisas or something.

>Does 38 super feel closer to shooting 9mm?
It's like 9mm+P or +P+ depending on the load
Pic related is my old .38 Super Colt. Ammo was somewhat annoying to acquire and costs as much as .45
>is the commander model any notable amount lighter?
It's like 6-7 ounces less for the steel frame Combat Commander. The difference in weight is basically that the commander weighs about the same loaded as the full size does empty.

You get double the weight saving for the aluminum frame Lightweight Commander (12-13 ounces) which which works out such that the Lightweight Commander weighs about as much loaded as the Combat Commander does empty

>you wouldn’t happen to know the cheapest stainless models, would you?
Probably the Tisas Carry SS45
>Do you personally prefer 45 to 38? Why or why not?
I do prefer .45. .38 is easier to shoot fast and you get two extra bullets per mag, but ammo choice is limited and good magazines are a little harder to find as well as the aforementioned problem of not saving any money on ammo.
>Also what are your thoughts on the commander vs officer models?
The same as everyone else. Officer models require a lot from the end user to be reliable like >>65474574 and >>65474680 said way back in the thread while Commanders are generally as reliable as full size guns
There's a reason the most popular carry 1911s are either Commanders or Compact Commanders (Commander slide on Officer frame)
>>
>>65474185
Nta but I carry this 4043 regularly. It is a piece of shit though. The da only trigger sucks and the aluminum frame makes the recoil worse and throws off the balance of the gun, which I found odd because I have an aluminum frame 1911 that points/handles better than my all steel govt model. I think because the slide is particularly beefy for what's supposed to be a compact-ish gun. Overall it's just unpleasant to shoot. I used to have a 4006 chp model that was a good gun, this thing is not.

Get the Carry if you want to actually carry it without fear of the firing pin jutting out a tad too much and losing your penor after.
Has a firing pin block and is decocker only. One of the best DA/SA triggers out the box, don't see a reason to get a CGW kit. Maybe changing the trigger itself to a serrated one down the line for some texture but that's minor.
Getting an EPS Carry for it + I'm currently holster shopping.
This one looks nice and I do have a PHLster Enigma already
