In highschool my main female friend group took me in as the token gay kid. They were really nice, helped me learn beauty and makeup stuff and kept me from feeling alone as I grew increasingly isolated from my male peers, and even "accepting" when I came out as trans, but I was never treated as a woman by them. This became so intolerable that I also isolated myself from them and spent my last year in hs alone until I could start transitioning.I am relatively early transition, a boymoder, but do announce my status as a tranny when meet people I'm going to be around for a while, just because being treated as a tranny is more tolerable to me than being treated as a man. And every time this happens I get the same treatment of token acceptance and support but distinct othering. They can be nice people and not transphobic at all, but I never get treated as a girl and exist as the same token queer person they use to virtue signal. I hate it.
