people have a general tendency to feel pride in *something(s)* about themselves, and the core of a lot of people's politics at present has to do mainly with various minority/majority dichotomies. I think sexuality is particularly likely to be a point of pride for people though because of our inclination towards hedonism. so you have hedonistic leftists who get to feel good about themselves physically and morally for being fags and being minorities.
