kids have very concrete ways of thinking when they're that young. in their eyes, when you do something that "belongs to the other gender" it physically turns you into that gender, e.g. wearing masculine clothes literally is what makes you male.
it's likely that you and your sister(in law?) do something similar, even if it's not feminine, and your niece associates that action/behavior with being female, and so therefore you must literally be a woman like her mom.
