In America we still have private insurance, so in theory these same mentality can rationalize and think, ok if I find out my insurance carrier is subsidizing all these superfluous tranny surgeries, they will eventually lose money and go under, or at least as a consumer I can choose another business with cheaper premiums. But in Jolly old England they are locked into a dogfight over perceived scraps. In conclusion, I think a single-payer in America would be disastrous for minority health care, trans or just LGBT focused healthcare.
